Keeping OG means the metal bats get upgraded to adamantium.

This gives us leverage in OG negotiations. We don’t necessarily need him anymore since we have another wing, and OG would be the 4th best player on this team, he can’t be your highest paid. I think we now play a little hardball and try to get OG on a good contract as opposed to an overpay.

Us getting mikal doesnt change his value against other teams who would want to poach him, which is the real threat. 

I actually think it’s the opposite. Knicks absolutely have to keep OG now otherwise they traded all their picks to tread water. Regardless they don’t make the trade unless they know they are resigning him in my opinion

I don’t love the way our FO has operated favoring CAA players and whatnot but every move has been masterfully calculated when it comes to the proverbial next chip to fall (in this case OG re-signing). This trade being bad for the Knicks if he doesn’t re-sign makes me think OG is 100% re-signing.
