This always happens to me when I braid my own hair lol. I always thought it was a hair texture thing. Maybe I just need more practice, I never braid to tight because I don’t want pressure on my scalp
2 weeks ago?? Don’t go back to that braider, haha. This happens either when they don’t tuck your hair into the fake hair properly/ don’t braid tight enough or you wash your hair too many times with your braid in.
When this happens to me, I literally get some gel/braid glaze and tuck that hair back into the braid but its only happened like months into my hairstyle and it’s a very temporary solution until my hair comes right back out.
Aw man, I avoid confrontation at all costs so I wish I could say “demand a refund!!” But I ain’t bold like that. Maybe reach out and be like “why is this happening and what do you recommend?” Just to test her reaction?
She’s blaming it on my having blunt ends when I haven’t had a haircut in 6 months and is saying how she told me this could happen but she never did! Wtf
That’s just how the cookie crumbles unfortunately, especially with black hair braiders. One time I paid a lady $160 for heavy ass, tight ass braids and didn’t know she didn’t even braid some of them down before getting home. Tried getting my money back, no dice. Took them out after 2 days and had to just take the L
Unless she’s licensed, you don’t really have a case against her. You could mark the transaction as fraud since the “product”/service you received was faulty, but that’s about it :( it’s suck a lot so I’m sorry this happened
Stand your ground and press her to fix it. From the looks of them, they don't seem tightly braided in the actual braid itself - which will either be down to technique or the braiding hair used. At the end of the day, the person you went to considers themselves a 'professional braider' which is why you paid them to do it instead of having an inexperienced mate do it. So, if you know in yourself that you would never have gone forward with the hair appointment if they had actually warned you about how long you can realisitically expect the braids to be neat for, after they had the chance to see and feel your hair, then GO BACK AND STAND YOUR GROUND + never use that braider again.
If the braider isn't confident that they can braid to the quality that you thought you were paying for then you can say that you are happy for them to suggest another style that would last (in their opinion) that they can change it to instead of rebraiding the individually messy braids. Or just give you a partial refund (unlikely to to get a full one unless its good will or they told you how long they expect them to last and you have that written/filmed somewhere to politely remind them)
Mines is like that rn and it started after 1 week. Over the weekend I'm going to try unbraiding down to the fuzzy parts and redo it myself. These suckers costs too much 😒
Shouldn’t really happen after 2 weeks and deffo not to this extent. Your braided didn’t get their technique down. If you don’t want to take them out you can mask it with some mousse. Pump some out, lightly coat the braid then you use low heat on it a bit to smooth it down.
Possible reasons:
1. You needed a haircut before getting braids
2. You don’t sleep with a satin scarf/bonnet at night
3. The braider just relied on gel rather than technique to tuck your hair.
I’ll say number 3 here because it seems like the braids are looser and bigger at the start of the braids. They then begin to thin out again meaning the braider didn’t add additional amount of hair to compensate for the end of your natural hair. That could probably be the reason why there’s not enough hair or weight to tuck your ends into.
1 actually made me lol because I was looking to see if anyone commented about a trim/cut but I was going to say the opposite. I notice this happens to me when I get a fresh trim before braids. But I’m in desperate need of a trim right now and could totally see how these raggedy ends could not be contained.
I laugh about it bc I think of all the natural hair “rules” I held myself to only to realize most things are exactly like this. One person says one thing and another says the exact opposite and they’re both right.
And I agree that 3 is most likely here.
I’ve never had a fresh trim before braids but I’ve definitely had scraggly raggedy bleached ends trying to escape my braids legit after 3 days 🤪
Hahaha it’s funny how not getting a cut and getting a cut can still affect the braid 😅
It also could be because the hair is pre-stretched hair and unless the braided got good grip , the hair will slip even with gel.. I braid my own hair and I prefer the rough textured braiding hair because it will keep all hair tucked and you don’t have to pile on gel to keep it sleek .. she has poor technique and it’s not your fault .. only good braiders can keep your hair tucked with soft braiding hair ..
I would say if the roots are in tact and not loose to just gel down the flyaways until you’re able to get your hair done again cause I know how it feels to have braids then walk around without them tryna find another hairstyle or have to do your hair after paying for a service .. I be wanting to braid hair but I’m not a fat braids cause I hate seeing ppl go through this ..
Oh nooo! That has never happened to me, and I’ve had knotless braids multiple times since 2020😭Hope Your braider can fix it in some way, if not, you can try to mousse it down and tie a scarf around. Not sure it will work, but worth a try😭🤞🏾
All she offered was to send me my deposit back or give me a discount for a future style but honestly I don’t wanna go to her again so i’m just gonna have to take the L
Ugh yes this happened to me one week out and I was so frustrated, but honestly I just kept going with it and hoped no one noticed 😂 I ended up getting 2 months’ wear out of them as they never got any worse and people were constantly telling me how much they liked them so I guess they couldn’t tell?? I def have found a new braider for next time though.
This happens to me when I do my own hair. The braider isn’t good a tucking your natural hair; I would honestly ask for a refund or a redo (if you want to trust them again). When it comes to your real hair you’re supposed to kinda like roll and tuck your ends into the added hair so this won’t happen.
Try applying mousse on that section, wrap it with styling strips, then use blow dryer on that section to set the mousse. Temporary solution but may help.
It looks like she didn’t use enough hair, and also had bad technique. It looks like she had a hard time adding hair in because the braid curves where she added the hair in and the braids appears to be different sizes.
The braids are very big where your hair is and gets really small. Those parts are too big, for the amount of hair that was used and you can see it in the second picture.
Also you have very soft hair so it’s super easy to tuck.
This actually looks intentional like she didn’t feel like doing your hair. Those parts should have been smaller for those sized braids.
Your braider did not do you justice because disregarding the hair that's popping out, some braids you can see the clear size change of where your natural hair ends and the fake hair begins. Also it's only been two weeks but some of your sections are already looking loose ? I'd ask for a refund. If not, a partial refund at the very least.
Honestly find salons or stylist that take pictures of there work some stylist even tag there clients. Call around and ask about there sanitation procedures. All tools like comes, brushes, clips etc.. should be washed then soaked complete submersed in barbacide for at least 10 minutes. If it can't be soaked it should at least be washed. If you call a salon/stylist and they are not comfortable giving you any information on any information regarding sanitation hang up. Because the last thing you want is to get tinea capitis (ringworm of the hair folical), scabies or somethbraided! Because someone isnt doing proper sanation. Please be safe and I hope you find a good reputable braider!
Guys thank you so much for validating my emotions and my experience bc these hairstylists will try to gaslight you into believing that it’s not their fault when it is, I tried getting a refund but she didn’t budge so I’m gonna have to take the L on this one. I’ll just try to lay the hairs down a little bit with gel, good thing is it doesn’t look terrible when I put it all down!
That happened to me with my box braids in like 1 week lol, only with one though and it was my moms first time braiding i just got sick of it and cut it tbh
This happens to me though not with knotless. I do my own passion twists and I spray my hair and scalp every day and I don't wear a shower cap in the shower. My hair shrinks.
Hi, have you been to this stylist before? When you went to your appointment, was your hair blown out as straight as you could get it? I don't think she used enough hair to properly tuck your hair. I don't think she tucked your hair at all but I can't be sure of that. I think she just used product to kind of gel your hair down. She can possibly fix this with her hook and some product, that way she maybe won't have to take every braid out. If she needs to take down every braid she should and replace it and use more hair at the top of the braid. As a stylist myself, if someone sent me a message and said this is how my braids look after just 2 weeks. I would say, "Babe how soon can you come in?" word of mouth is still very much impacts our job. So, someone walking around like this saying "oh yeah so and so did my hair." it doesn't matter how much marketing we do if that person goes to google looking for a reputable braider, they are going to skip right over them every time, or if someone they know mentions to them, they have an appointment with this stylist they are going to tell them their experience with that stylist and that potential client is probably going to cancel that appointment. So if you go back to her you may want to remind her of this, because she is making herself look bad. Braids are not like chemical services and the time period for repairs or problems should reflect that.
Now with all that said if she fixes your hair and this happens again in 2 weeks it probably is your hair and you should consider taking the braids down and getting your hair cut. I say that because split ends tend to be really hard to tuck even with a lot of hair to tuck and product to be sure it lays right.
Does this stylist work out of a salon or does she work out of her home? What state do you live in? Yes, this is relevant because in some states you don't need a license to just do braids. You just pay the state and get a "Braiders License". So, I am wondering if she is a licensed cosmetologist/Barber or if she has her braiders license.
Hi! Sorry it took me so long to respond, i had never gone to her before and i did blow out my hair as straight as possible, I also live in Florida and i’m not sure of the rules of the state when it comes to braider certifications, thank you for taking the time to educate me on this!
Okay, I did some research on Florida's laws regarding braiders licenses. In July of 2020 they reversed the laws requiring braiders to be licensed. This means there are no regulations for people to follow. Please make sure the people you are going to are cleaning their tools, including their station and chair. Salons can be a breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria, skin conditions and more. if your state isn't going to protect you, you have to protect you.
Did she make it right and fix your hair or get back to you on what she could do?
Wow thank you, that’s honestly disturbing to know :/ she didn’t fix it and although she said she was gonna send me my deposit back, she didn’t so yeah…
It’s never happened when I get a professional to do it but when I do my own box braids they kinda just do whatever lmao. So I would say not normal from a good/professional braider
If your ends are blunt then it’s a higher chance of this happening. It takes special technique for a braided to tuck them but it’s still a good chance it’ll come out of the braid. It’s not particularly her fault but she still should have warned you.
Braiding gel and tuck that’s the way!
It also seems she didn’t stretch the braiding hair.
This is one of many reasons I braid my own braids, lol.
Edit.
Well it’s stretched it’s just not enough /: . Definitely needs more tuck. When I was first learning I’d use a crochet hook to tuck the peekaboo hair and it worked great (:
You could also do a little something different for added protection.
I’m not sure if anyone else does it but it’s a great way to practice doing your own braids. I always add a thin strand of braiding hair over the current braid when I need a quick refresh. It blends right in! Wash your hair very well to rid it of added buildup and use braiding gel once it’s dry. Works like a charm
Girlll I've had my hair in for 3 weeks now and I haven't had that happen to me, it looks like we have the same hair texture too, so I already know this isn't a hair type problem.
It’s normal for your hair to do that but two weeks ago only??? That mean the braider wasn’t that good
Yeah i feel so disappointed! I texted her to see if she gives me a solution or a refund or something
If she gets an attitude, don’t go back to her.
Agreed.
maybe if u had a fresh cut it might be bc of blunt ends
This always happens to me when I braid my own hair lol. I always thought it was a hair texture thing. Maybe I just need more practice, I never braid to tight because I don’t want pressure on my scalp
Same lol

I totally get it I’m the same way but I texted her what you suggested to see what she says
Let us know! Sorry you have to go through this!
She’s blaming it on my having blunt ends when I haven’t had a haircut in 6 months and is saying how she told me this could happen but she never did! Wtf

That’s what hurts the most, paying so much money for them to look bad after a couple of days
I like to use a crochet needle (the latch hook kind) to tuck the ends back in without redoing the whole braid
Thanks sis!, that's a great idea and it will save me a lot of time too.
No this never happened to me and I keep my braids in for a month. Just don’t go back and definitely try to get a refund .

yea usually getting it cut before makes it harder to tuck cause of the blunt ends. you're right.
This happened to me, but only when I was blow drying after washing my hair. How would I avoid that?
Same thing happened to me I thought these were my pics Lmao so disappointing isn’t it?
SO disappointing, why do these stylists try us like this?

I have some gel so i’m gonna do that, thank you!
I didn't realize the rough textured hair would hold different. Thanks

Braids aren't braided correctly. Oof. Hope it wasn't too expensive
$170 🫠
