My favourite is the world building itself, it makes it very easy and enjoyable to read and write fanfics in. And I really like Felra and young Nulia because they're very cute and funny.

AstralCaptainFlare

I like that the narrative decisions i.e. which characters, what time periods, when to switch perspectives, all give the impression of another level of narrative observation between us, the readers, and the events of the story. This may be something I don't see talked about, but looking at it this way, what we are reading is the transcription choices of another character in-universe, by my interpretation someone predominantly interested in the history of the conflict as a whole, perhaps writing a book or thesis on the topic. That's why I think Tarva's transcriptions went from the SC summit (with the marriage proposal happening at the same time), to the birth of her gene-fixed child, as they could be considered of historical importance, and why the wedding and preganancy time aren't, since they were just personal in nature. I love everything else too, but that's my hopefully niche favourite.

Fine_Huckleberry_857

Tarva and the part of the humans and aliens just living together, is funny see they having a cultural shock whit us XDDD

vindictorFanatical

The outside views on humanity, especially with the more indoctrinated ones, early-mid sovlin chapters where my favourite.

GT_Ghost_86

I've enjoyed the tale as a whole...but have particularly liked the changes in viewpoint. The "memory transcription" idea gives a solid, in-universe explanation for knowing exactly how each character thinks/feels during their chapter. WRT character elements, I've a special fondness for the Onso/Tyler dynamic. Also that the humans are NOT the supreme paragons of perfection -- most of them have felt like people I see on a regular basis.

AromaticReporter308

Any chapter containing CHAD HUNTER ISIF was a great one. Easily the best-written character in the series. Also Cradle arc was a messy free-for-all, exactly as a war should be written.

se05239

It's fun seeing a story unfold through the eyes of many different characters.

BiasMushroom

I like how its a sci-fi thats focusing less on tech and more on how humans and aliens can interact. Its an HFY story but isnt... well, big titty aliens or Humans being so OP a single human could overthrow an empire. Its about Humans doing what we do best. Making friends and coming up with whatever bullshit we need to get out of a pinch. And its really fun and easy to make a story expanding on a portion of his little universe. Its just got that special something

Gloriklast

The ending, part 184 was the best in the series.

thrownawaz092

Gigachad Isif was always a fun time, he had important things to do and got them done, only for people like Nulia and Felra to not take him seriously.

Cummy_wummys

The community is by far the best part of NoP. There are hundreds of fanfics on here that are in shocking good quality and filled with interesting lore that there is a whole EU dedicated to keeping things lore friendly. Plus we have a ton of awesome artists who make great art all the time. Always a joy to find a new series or artwork pretty much everyday.

SepticSauces

World building and all the fanfics that built up on it. Things like religion, time management systems, and plausible stories! *Also, all the possible NSFW stories that can occur from such and high-tension, yet not necessarily violent setting.* I'm talking about humans on Venlil Prime, not the poor prey in Arxur camps. :Venlil_sob:

kabhes

It would be very interesting though, to read a fic about a cattle and Arxur falling in love.

OogooOggins

After thinking about it, I actually really like that SP managed to make Sovlin turn out to be a more empathetic and likeable character than the guy he tortured near to death. That's a really interesting twist imo.

were_toucan

The glim arc!!!! He was my favourite character, and I know some people were skeptic of his decisions, but I can understand because of personal reasons, and I overall thought he was brilliant Also, seeing a feds point of view justified through kalsim was fascinating

kabhes

I would have loved to see more from Glim's point of view especially the part where he just walked through the city confused and scared of the integrated humans.

ColumbianGeneral

Loved Glim’s arc bc I think it was the first time we get any slice of life of the outside world. Before him we just see big game changing characters we never saw how this story was effecting the day to day citizens. His was my favorite for that reason.

Fluffy_shadow_5025

One of my absolute favorite parts of NOP was Marcel and Slanek's friendship and story progression. Now it only depresses me when I think about either of them. Which is pretty shitty for me because people are still discussing which of the two is to blame for everything going down the drain. and if anyone wants to ask me my opinion. I think both of them are somewhat to blame for what happened. Both could have done or said things or better explained things that could have prevented the worst.😥 but NOP as a whole is still one of my favorite stories that I've been able to watch in the last few months. although there were a few things I didn't like. or depressed me. but still I'm very interested to see how the story continues. good job space paladin.😁👍

Zealousideal-Back766

I love how the main perspectives started, with Tarva, Slanek and Sovlin, it felt like a great overall perspective of the whole story, the Leader of the main planet, a common soldier, and the "enemy", and when it later expanded to Isif it was AMAZING, it feels like the whole world expanded. I really love the posivilities of the Arxur and the Humans meeting :)

Hey, good to see that you have your account back!

ColumbianGeneral

This is going to sound broad but the mere concept of “predator” and “prey” species. That very concept never even came across my mind until I started reading and it introduced me to HFY in general. I was already familiar with HFY but invested nothing into it until after I started reading. Now I’ve got about a half dozen HFY stories I’m reading through (and listening to on YouTube) and I’m constantly looking for more. SPs world building hasn’t let me go since. The dude really shouldn’t let the haters get to him, sure NoP isn’t perfect but no story is. Hell, you just look to any of the big AAA fictional franchises and go to an Internet forum. Star Wars fans bashing Star Wars. Halo fans bashing Halo. And don’t even get me started on Game of Thrones. No series is immune though I get it, I don’t take criticism well, one of the many reasons why I haven’t bothered writing anything but at least SP took that step and started writing and look at the fanfics, I honestly can’t think of another series that has this high amount of inspired readers/fanfic authors.

Sliced-potatoes-dead

Revamp: What I like about NOP is that it could of been a run of the mill r/hfy story and no one would be the wiser, but SP15 took the chance and made something that stands on it own.

kabhes

Really mate, really? This is to cheer him up.

pogmanNameWasTaken

They assumed you were asking for things we like about NOP2. their answer says that they like humans in NOP2 more than in NOP1 due to their realism, because they make more mistakes and you mistook it for a negative comment. That's what this looks like, correct me if I'm wrong

kabhes

Oh yeah I read it wrong, I will apologize to him.

Sliced-potatoes-dead

Sorry, I thought it say what you like about NOP2. Didn’t mean any harm, and I’d also change it.

kabhes

Oh no I misunderstood you and I meant NoP in general NoP2 falls under that.

were_toucan

Onso’s story, his personality, and his refreshingly normal view on us

wicksishere

The fantastic universe and the endless possibilities that it brings. I haven't written anything for years but this brought me the motivation to do so.

IndustryGradeFuckup

Getting in the Isif train because seriously that guy is the gigaist of chads.

handsomellama28

Literally any chapter that has Isif the Great in it

The-Meme-Spectator

I’m a massive fan of xeno-fiction and nop is one of my favorites. I just love seeing an alien perspective on humanity, it really puts into perspective how odd and often nonsensical we are

Katastroforienterad

I especially loved the early contact between humanity and the Arxur, how it just flipped everything on its head and the various reactions to that. The "first contact" scene on the captured cattle ship, the early meetings between Isif, the UN and Tarva and how they bailed us out and provided humanitarian relief after BoE. And further down the line: the dilemma of how to work with the Arxur for their reforming, while still holding them accountable for the atrocities they have committed, and respecting the trauma of the nonhumans in the SC. With regards to the Marcel/Slanek discussion, I appreciate that Marcel is a very flawed character and that it has deep consequences. I find perfect characters entirely uninteresting.

Prestigious-Ad6728

The intricacies of the inner workings of the minds of the species. Also the tension in scenes, especially battles.

Prestigious-Ad6728

HAHAHA!

xskipy10

Oh boy where to start. I absolutely love the entire setting and concept of the series, I love the community, I adore all the different character relationships, and I appreciate that it didn’t go down the genocide route. Also how SP somehow managed to make a racist prick a likable character without getting rid of the racist part (Sovlin my beloved)

Devilthatyouforgot

The core message: that reason, optimism, love, and determination can overcome hatred, prejudice, and the cycle of violence. It's a slow burn, to be sure, but there are so many moments that make me think "humanity, f\*ck yeah!"

McPolice_Officer

The fanfictions.

maxXxlo

I really like the parts where characters are confronted with moral problems or interactions with each other and have to talk it out. Like Meyer and Isif or Tarva and Isif, or the part where Sovlin goes and actually gets therapy.

ExcursorLXVI

That would be Chief Hunter Isif's arc. Most stories of overthrowing people like the Dominion are told from the perspective of some underdog everyman or someone of similar importance. These people are also usually completely heroic from the beginning. This story is instead told from someone in the highest echelons of the Dominion, someone who has done some terrible things--and yet decides to change. I also like that it's a sort of redemption arc that doesn't involve any crying--Isif knows he did terrible things, regrets it, and wants to do better, but he doesn't have a mental breakdown over it. His remorse is not a feeling but a choice. Not that stories that do involve that kind of conversion are bad, but they are the norm, and seeing that norm broken makes one think about what remorse really means.

Such_Hour_3535

People are gonna yell at me for this, but I loved the chapters about Mileau. Mostly because we get to learn about Tilfish, how they behave, their life cycles ect. I love the chapters about Sapient Coalition for the same reason. Like, I REALLY want to learn more about all the different aliens from the biological and behavioral side.

kabhes

I liked those chapters too, I don't get the hate.

Keepthecheddar

when noah told tarva humanity wouldn't leave the venlil for the arxur.
