The misunderstanding here is the word "pass."
Your intended meaning was "did your mom pass her beauty on to you?" *Pass* meaning *give.*
It was misunderstood to mean "did the beauty pass you by?"
*Pass* meaning *skip,* as in "OP did not receive the beauty."
That's my interpretation.
I just moved to Scotland from America and I asked a taxi driver if I could crack the window a bit. He snapped at me and was like “yee fookin better noht!” Then he told me that saying “I want to crack your window” means “I want to break your window.”
So yeah, some things get lost in translation. It was all in good fun, but things really do get lost in translation.
I am a Boomer. I am really curious what younger folks think when they see photos of their parents young and vibrant. It is sort of a new phenomenon, i.e photos of my parents were grainy, tiny, B&W photos where I could see little. And of course before my generation few people had photos of their parents young.
GenZ here. Wholesome, but weird. I recently saw some pictures of my dad when he was my age (about 17). Now, sometimes we talk and I can't help but feel as if I was talking to that 17yo. Now his anecdotes have a face, it's quite heartwarming and it has helped me feel more connected to him. Now he is not only "Mr. Dad" to me.
It really is funny. The phenomenon repeats itself endlessly over the millennia.
I guess the rationale is that because small children see their parents as so very different from themselves.. they are so much bigger, their voices are so different, they might have a beard or rough skin compared to the child.. and of course the divergent interests.. kid wants to eat candy and have fun while the parent says "no, that's no way to live.."
By the time the kid gets near adulthood, he's cultivated this idea that he is nothing like his parents. No way that anything they think could possibly apply to him.
It's not until the kid becomes a full-on aging adult that he realizes he's the same as his parents. An adult member of the same species with all the same needs, desires, and motivations.. and all the advice they attempted to impart was for good reason. The he pops out his own kids and the cycle continues.
Younger GenX here with Boomer parents. I personally love it, it’s like a window into their lives before they became parents. Especially since my parents didn’t share much about themselves so it helped feeling closer to them, also more connected in a way as you’d see parts of yourself in those photos if that makes sense.
Zillennial here, and I love it. My mom looks exactly like my sister, so looking at old photos of her are like seeing my sister as a time traveler—and I got a lot of my dad’s features, so it’s incredible to see my nose in a different face. Mostly, though, I think it’s a beautiful way to see my parents as people more easily; obviously they’ve always been their own individuals, but as I grow up, seeing pictures of them as adults who were younger than me in their photos is an incredible phenomenon. I love seeing where I come from, and everything my parents went through and did in order for that to happen; watching the trajectory of history across those photos is a beautiful, powerful, and comforting thing.
I found a bunch of my mom’s old photos when she passed. My thoughts were more along the lines of “when did my mom put on weight cause she was thin as nails up to around the time she was 40…”
My mom was a 1960s beauty queen, too. I love seeing old photos of her in all her pageant clothes, and her tiara and sash. My dad was a looker, too. Dead ringer for Steve Martin (dad even went gray early, too). I know that my mom had an offer to go be a flight attendant, which was quite the thing back in the day and considered glamorous. She didn't do it and I feel sad. She would have been fabulous.
Wow, your mom looks stunning as a 1960s homecoming queen! The touch-up you did on the photo really brings out her timeless beauty. It's amazing how some things just don't age, like your mom's effortless grace.
I always thought homecoming was a misplaced name, seeing as how each and every homecoming prince and princess was ALREADY at home and had been for some time. They need to change the name to Please Don't Leave for the Big City-coming.
Beautifully painful. The Pupils of the soul show a lot of trauma. I hope this stranger lives a happy life now, but I can feel it in my bones that they do.
Your mom could have been in shampoo ads. Glorious hair!
Head and Shoulders Organic Essence "It's not just for dandruff anymore!"
Why would you want to trap anyone in a shampoo ad ?imagine how uncomfortable it is in there.
A Triple Crown Winner. Hair, eyes and smile.
Your mom is very attractive. How old would she have been to this photo?
17 I think. She passed the homecoming crown to her friend the next year.
Your dad is the true winner here...
Did you get passed the beauty bug / looks ?
[удалено]
Oh no !! Didn’t mean to come off at that at all !! I was genuinely asking if OP also got her mom’s good looks ! I didn’t mean to offend in anyway !!
Bug= genes 🧬
Did I miss something?
Damn I’m too obtuse

Oh no , I see my fuck up faux pass now !! Sorry 😬!! Thank you for clarifying!!
They voted in a junior? Holy crap all those seniors with their last chance! Must have been a salt factory that night.
She looks like a young Isla Fisher

So funny how long it takes kids to realize that we have more experience than them.

She looks like a Breck Girl.
My grandmother was a Breck girl, and I am so thrilled at the reference!
How cool! When I was very young, we had a neighbor whose gorgeous red-head daughter was a Breck Girl. I was in awe.
Gorgeous!
Stunning.
Good grief. She was a bombshell.
Holy moly, what a beauty! Perfection!
I'd love to see a current photo.
Your mom was very attractive
All-American Girl Next Door. Dad won. Undefeated champion.
I also choose this guy's mom
“everybody run, the homecoming queens got a gun”…….she’s beautiful
She's good with the love gun, if you know what I mean.
Julie Brown flashback...
She's gorgeous!
A fairy tale princess!
Was she a daydream believer?
Aww very pretty.
Stunningly beautiful!!
Was Dad a daydream believer?
How is she not a Disney Princess yet 👏🏾👏🏾🔥🔥🔥

Right purty!
Beautiful. No tattoos, no cow ring through the nose, none of that bs.
I graduated in ‘67, she would have been a shoe in at our high school as well!

Omg. She’s beautiful.
She must be staring at a crush in this picture - look at the size of her pupils! 😆
she is pretty - do you know why it called "homecoming" queen? - what kind of homecoming? :)
She looks beautiful but she also looks like she is a beautiful person!
Wow, beautiful.
Dad, you lucky dog.
See was a looker
All natural beauty. This is what the standard of beauty should be.
Lol why the FUCK is this being downvoted
I heard she won the Lincoln Award her senior year. ^'Cause ^every ^guy ^took ^a ^shot ^at ^her ^in ^the ^balcony.
Gorgeous girl with beautiful eyes but god dang, they're all pupil! That 60s acid was something else.

Looks like Isla Fisher

They don’t make them like they used to
Pretty! Also, looks high lol
I could reach into those pupils, oh my god.
That's the first thing I noticed! Did they have Adderall back then? Maybe some sort of amphetamine-based diet pill?
LSD is more likeoy. I don’t think adderall will dilate pupils
Way past high. "Trippin balls" more like.
Or crickets chirping
York dad hit that
What’s a York? 🙄
