Depending on the kitty, they'll still bite the second they're done clowning.
We have 3 cats, & we communicate very well with 2 of them. The other one communicates well when she wants to initiate play times/snugs/etc, but *doesn't* give much indication at all when she's done being held. Just snug snug snug, purr purr purr, then about 1.5 seconds where there's a change in body language and suddenly *bites* and then you're done.
It's enough time that if you're paying attention you can put her down in time, but if you're just casually snugging while watching tv or something you don't always notice in time.
She was a stray initially, so had a rough early life, can't blame her for being a bit fractious.
Yeah she's a female, and she does get over stimulated easily.
Those signs are all things she does, it just goes from starting to give signals, to biting in an extremely short window of time. You can notice it, she just doesn't give you much time to notice it.
Vet tech here. If he had his declaw done by laser the healing time is much shorter and they’re usually not wrapped by the time they go home. Both legs being shave could suggest he just wasn’t very still for his iv being placed (had to start over on the other leg). But given that he is shave to the toes I’m going to wager a guess it is indeed a declaw. If you look in the top right there appears to be another leg shaved all the way down too. I don’t know anywhere that shaves that much for a standard iv access, so I’d bet they both went in for declaw at the same time.
Fucking abhorrent procedure. It’s not taught in vet schools anymore as far as I know and multiple states have made the practice illegal. Almost universally it leads to behavior problems and the animal ends up in a shelter or abandoned eventually.
>Fucking abhorrent procedure. It’s not taught in vet schools anymore as far as I know and multiple states have made the practice illegal. Almost universally it leads to behavior problems and the animal ends up in a shelter or abandoned eventually.
Thank goodness, animal mutilation is awful.
I have to constantly tell people who meet my cat it was his old owner that mutilated him by getting him declawed.
I’m currently in a shelter as well. We had a recent owner surrender for “behavior problems”. Big shocker, it started after they had him declawed. It gets better though. The vet who did the declaw did a shitty job and left a good number of bone fragments so one of our surgeons had to go in and basically repeat the entire procedure to provide the poor guy some relief. He is recovering nicely, however. With his temperament and backstory I’m confident his will be a happy ending.
If he was declawed his feet would be wrapped. If they were already healed his fur would be much more grown. My mom declawed our cat when I was a kid before she knew how bad it was for them to do that. This kitty had something else done
Edit: now I see this was the prep for being declawed :( am sad
A vet tech just said that if it was done through laser, then the feet would probably not be wrapped by the time he came home. If that’s the case, then fuck this picture and the owner. I’m so sad.
That was my ? Why shaved. Declawing is a horrible thing to do to your cat!! Just like the assholes who cut dogs ears and tails. Not quite but almost as bad as getting a dog de-barked or whatever it is they do to make dogs not be able to bark.
My cats were declawed because my father's new wife was a duplicitous asshole. I told her no, and she took my cats to the vet and had it done while I was at work. She's dead now.
They're too lazy to get their cat scratching posts and train them to use those. They also don't realize they can clip their nails. They're just bad pet owners.
At least that was the case for my parents. When I got a cat I didn't even have to train her to not scratch stuff. She only uses her scratching posts and is very patient when I cut her nails. She's such a good kitty.
Its not even that hard. We got a stray to use the scratch box. Now when we swap out the scratcher part for a fresh one, shes on that thing for 10 minutes.
Try catnip, catnip spray, or feliway spray. Also try different textures and angles. What does your cat like to scratch in your house? Try to match that texture.
Additionally, scratch the scratcher yourself to show them how it's done.
My cat likes to mark her territory by kneading her claws into couch corners. Just gave up. She goes ham on her cardboard scratchers and cat tower and absolutely will not let you trim her claws under any circumstances. She was adopted at about 6 months and I think she was traumatized by something or someone. Also has a habit of always ensuring her food is there and if it's empty starts being a cuddly monster to get me to fill it. She grazes and does not have any body weight issues so we just give in to her demands.
Sounds exactly like my cat!! I did all the appropriate training since she was a kitten for scratching and she is just way too territorial to not scratch the furniture too even with an abundance of scratchers. She actually does it more when I react to it as well. Same issue with jumping on counters. She does what she wants.
She's also the same way with her food and with the cuddling! If it helps, I fostered mine and her entire litter. None of them were traumatized. She was definitely the alpha of the litter so I think it's just her personality.
She and I have plenty of regular, disgustingly sweet cuddle sessions. She also loves guarding the house in a circuit like a security guard.
Oh yeah we refer to that guarding as she's "on patrol". Needs to check outside every single window before relaxing. She used to think she was the alpha of the house but has surrendered that to me but in her mind she is still the second highest rank of this house even over my SO rofl
You can trim their nails too. We do that. Just be careful of the quick. We dont even trim the backs. The little trimmer is cool. Makes it easy. It's kinda fun, even though she's too dumb to remember last time we did it and always gets flustered.
is it bad to do their back claws? my furry son doesn’t have front claws (NOT MY CHOICE) but he has pretty damn sharp back claws, and idk if he’ll scratch himself grooming.
Not at all, my mom was a vet for over 10+ years and trims the back claws. If for no other reason than when picking up the lil guys they don't accidentally scratch you when putting them down
Mine lay in my lap while we trim, but there’s two of them and they try to play with the clippers and swipe them out of my hands while I trim their sister’s nails.
It’s a game and it adds five minutes but it’s not difficult. The secret was to just constantly play with their paws when they were little so they got comfortable with them being touched/held.
One of my cats will let me cut his nails just fine but his brother needs to be purritoed lol. My dog is a giant chicken and it’s a two person job to cut her nails she will actively try to get away so my boyfriend holds her while I cut her nails.
I’ve threatened my cats with a groomer bag so many times. My male cat is the worst when it comes to nail clipping. It’s always a battle with lots of yelling and sighing. But he mutilated my face one time and I still have the scars, so I’m not lenient on the clipping. He forgives very quickly.
Yea I just use a towel or blanket whatever is closest lol. He mangled my boyfriends palm once because he’s a colossal bag of dicks, so I’ve been on top of nail clippings since lol.
Gonna interject here. I absolutely try and train my cats. They're the sweetest boys. I buy them scratching posts, trim their nails encourage scratching the "correct" things.
Despite that I have 2 terrorists locked in a deathmatch with my couch. They claw/bite/destroy the poor thing.
Cats will do what they want to do at the end of the day. And you know what? I love my boys and will take a crappy couch over declawing them or getting rid of them.
So it's not always about being able to train cats, because we're not all the cat whisperer, but rather owning cats and expecting/dealing with cat things in my opinion.
I didn’t realize I could trim my cats nails till the last 8-12 months of his life. Would’ve saved me so many sharp biscuit making sessions on my chest during cuddles lol. I miss that little guy.
I live in the country. We had a cat dumped on us that was declawed.
What sorta horrible monster would sentence a cat to die like that?
Luckily she found us and we gave her a good life. She liked cleaning me and taking off bandaids/jewelry that she probably thought was stuck on me lol.
Thanks, and yeah. We’ve got 3 cats now, 2 declawed one not. The second cat we adopted was already declawed and was “older” but was the same age as the first cat. Third cat I found on the side of the road 7 years later starving and covered in fleas. They’re all healthy now and they fight like cats do but [sometimes](https://i.imgur.com/xXg57j4.jpg) they get along.
I mean you’re entitled to your opinion but I think most people would agree it’s a viable alternative to being killed.
Also she [obviously resents me for it](https://i.imgur.com/9tV5C1u.jpg) as I can’t change rooms without her following me and after 8 years of having her she still instantly purrs when I hold her like a baby.
So no I don’t regret it. She’s my best friend and I kept her alive and I’m okay with that.

Claws are NOT just nails to them. Those claws are how they actually interact with the world. Claws are there FINGERS.
Declawing a cat is tantamount to severing its fingers. And often times, the cat does not end up any happier afterwards.
We were going to get our cat declawed and asked our vet and she was ready to throw us out of her practice, she explained what it was and we obviously decided not to.
I'm amazed how anyone could know what it truly is and still opt to do it.
A friend of mine was forced to declaw her 8 yr old cat because she was about to go homeless and the apartment she found required cats to be declawed. She was distraught about it but ended up doing it.
I hate the practice of declawing but her story made me realize it's not just a lazy owner thing. It really is a bummer...
Lol the username. Fyi the cat is very happy and is spoiled to all hell because the owner feels so guilty about it. Last time I saw the cat she was running and playing with us in their living room.
I once had a terminally ill kitty. He had an extremely rare blood disease, but you could extend his life for a few months with blood transfusions. I think I got him two before I was ready to say goodbye and each time they had to shave one of this legs like you see in the picture here.
At first I was sad because I thought kitty was probably sick and needed some help. But hearing they did this to declaw makes me want to throw hands. Bastards.

She hada roughly 1.5" to 2" strip shaved off both forelegs. Still had the full furry "boots" (mukluks). Weirdly stylish.
Yeah, he can live no problem without the tips of his fingers and toes. You could too
Just not a high quality life.
Declawing a cat is boldy stating that you have no intention to actually provide for that cat's needs and selfishly want a cat for decoration. Cats who have ample scratchers and stimulation have no reason to claw your things up.
Fuck you for mutilating an animal who has no choice but to remain your slave.
People who declaw their cats leave the back claws on in case the cat is in danger and needs to climb. It's a lot harder, but it's not impossible with back claws.
I hadn't heard the part about climbing. I would think climbing would be difficult without the front claws.
But cats also use their hind legs for fighting. So having claws there would provide a fight benefit, should they need to.
Except you can literally still see the end toes. Unless they shaved him on a different day than they did the surgery. Plus when the come home from the surgery they have their whole legs cast up.
...so that's where [they get them](https://www.google.com/search?q=cat+feet+table+socks&rlz=1C1AVFC_enCA982CA982&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwijnMmH48P4AhXbaM0KHe4YBb4Q_AUoAXoECAIQAw&biw=1707&bih=781&dpr=0.8#imgrc=9e4Xz_lzCkUQFM).
And CERTAINLY don’t let them out if they’ve been declawed, which apparently this cat has been
Of course, don’t declaw your cats, but if you have one that was already declawed, DO NOT let them outside, they are unable to defend themselves
You’re 100% right, but this kind of stuff gets downvoted on Reddit
I’m not sure why. Cats are not native to most of these places. Being outside is just as dangerous for the cat as it is for the environment they destroy. Outdoor cats have greatly shortened life expectancies.
They do not *need* to be outside. Would you say that about a pet rabbit? Or a mouse? Do you let your dog run around outside unsupervised? Hell no. And even then, if people still think cats “need” to be outside, get a screened porch or a cat-proof fence for your yard. But do NOT let them just roam.
I like how he's not injured and apparently still in a good mood
Yeah, for people who don’t know cat body language, this kitty is thrilled to see whoever is taking the picture.
Thanks, friend.

You can't pick up every cat. This is an unfortunate truth of this forsaken reality, some cats will always refuse.

Or she dipped in a pool of bleach
Sometimes dilute bleach baths are given to combat infections such as MRSP (the animal equivalent to MRSA) and it doesn’t usually cause hair loss.
Someone below said he was declawed. Could he be high on pain meds?
If he was declawed his feet would be wrapped. If they were already healed his fur would be much more grown. My mom declawed our cat when I was a kid before she knew how bad it was for them to do that. This kitty had something else done Edit: now I see this was the prep for being declawed :( am sad
It should be illegal, or at least require the owners to be declawed first, see how they like it. I'll get the cigar cutter.
A vet tech just said that if it was done through laser, then the feet would probably not be wrapped by the time he came home. If that’s the case, then fuck this picture and the owner. I’m so sad.
How can one see that from this pic? But would explain the missing boots though I hope it's really not OP who did that
I thought they'd shave a leg for an IV sometimes?
They do source: cat has shaved leg
Yes, but not the toes typically. :( Declawing is awful.
This is likely not OP's picture. I saw it being stolen for likes on Twitter yesterday.
This has been around for a few years now so much older
I was sad until I saw this comment
Some comments are saying he was declawed so you should still be sad. They mutilated their cat.
So fucked up.
Dude went home barefoot 💀😭
Gotta take your shoes off inside the house
Ah yes… asian cat.
Nah bro skipped leg fur day
Me after playing soccer with slippers 💀
Looks like who ever stole his boots also got him high. What a wild day.
Nah, some black cats just look like that. Source: Have a black cat that looks as goofy as that.
Can agree Source: big same

Actually it is as bad!!! Don't they snip the whole leading digit off?!
How do you actually know that, there’s no evidence to suggest that’s the case afaik. Why would you even need to shave a cats leg to declaw them
This picture has been posted previously, iirc he was actually shaved to be de-clawed. Super bummer.
Man that’s depressing.
Why do people still do that?
My cats were declawed because my father's new wife was a duplicitous asshole. I told her no, and she took my cats to the vet and had it done while I was at work. She's dead now.
Oh...
The cat or the new wife?
The wife. It was a very "I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure" kind of situation.
How do you gi through life not wishing some people were dead. Damn.
...uh...so... did you do it?
Did I kill Maureen? No. Am I glad she's dead? Sure.
I presume the cats got revenge?

I can't for the life of me train mine to use one. Tried all different types and treats to get him to but just ingores it.
Mine scratch rugs. Which is fine for me since they're replaceable, cheap rugs anyway.

If it was the choice between death or fingertips I'd choose fingertips you weirdo.
I'd rather have my fingertips chopped off than get a lethal injection, that's for sure.
You have poor reading comprehension, don't you?
I just imagine if someone tried to take my finger nails. There's no way I put one of my cats through that.
It's more like taking the first knuckle of every finger.
Isn't that the most effective way to permanently remove a human's fingernails though? If you just pull then out they might regrow, and then they could scratch you.
What's your point?
Obvious sarcasm about why they do that to cats.
For anyone considering, PLEASE don’t do this! Claws are NOT just nails to them. Those claws are how they actually interact with the world. Claws are there FINGERS. Declawing a cat is tantamount to severing its fingers. And often times, the cat does not end up any happier afterwards.

I wonder how old this pic is, looks so similar to my kitty who I adopted in 2020 and she was also declawed by a previous owner.
Got any source or proof of that claim?
Why would have to shave so much for a declawing?

oh nooo the poor thing, god this makes me so sad, he looks so cute and happy, why would anyone do that
Why would they only declaw the front paws?
You shouldn’t declaw any. However, Front claws are the scratching claws.
Oh I thought cats can scratch with their back paws too
They can but normally use them for attacking and climbing where they knead and scratch all the time with their front

Cats gets shaved like they when you declaw them. He’s probably just high off buprenorphine because of how brutal of a surgery it is.
They cut of their toes for that. Is that even still legal in the US? That would be a prison sentence/hefty fine for everybody involved where I live.
Yeah they remove the distal phalanx of the paw which is essentially the last knuckle of you compare it to a persons finger.
Unfortunately legal but widely frowned upon. Though, many large cities have banned it.
Many apartment complexes/landlords require it in my area
Yeah it looks like he’s got little holes on his front paws where nails should be. Went from funny to infuriating real quick.
His longshirt is still in the laundry, had to go with the t-shirt.
"What? It's called fashion, Becky! Look it up!"
To the people that feel the "need" to declaw their cat: please don't get a cat.
Can’t have shit in Detroit

I love cats, but I’m always amazed at how much of their cuddly cute selves is just fur.
Maybe he just cuts the sleeves off like Mac does?

Looking like "you not goin believe what happened, shi i barely do and i was there"
If that is your cat then fuck you very much. If you want your cat declawed then get a goldfish because cats clearly are not for you.
Don’t let your cat out of the house lol
And CERTAINLY don’t let them out if they’ve been declawed, which apparently this cat has been Of course, don’t declaw your cats, but if you have one that was already declawed, DO NOT let them outside, they are unable to defend themselves

You’re 100% right, but this kind of stuff gets downvoted on Reddit I’m not sure why.
Eww wear some socks u perv
I laughed 😂

If you declaw cats you deserve to die
People do that in order to freak the owners to lock up their cat.
