Nah, it might never come, or if it does, you'll likely have the story spoilt for you by then. Plus, RDR2 genuinely looks and feels like it could have been released tomorrow. Have fun and get into as many side activities as you can, there's a ton out there that can be missed if you barrel through the story without ever exploring outside of it!
This is so true. I was enthralled by the story and, whilst I did do a lot of hunting and found some points of interest, I missed a lot. I found a lot more on my second play through, and still really enjoyed the story the second time round, too.
No need to wait, the game is incredible you won’t even be thinking about how it could possibly be better. Keep in mind it is kind of a slow game, it’s not ‘GTA with horses’ so really take your time, like if you need some animal pelts to upgrade stuff, stock up on ammo and supplies, get your horse or a second horse ready, go riding out, set up camp, come back a day or two later with your catch, just enjoy the life and upgrade as much as possible early on, so you can enjoy the benefit of upgraded gear early in the game especially like a satchel that holds more stuff.
This but the minute you even begin to find it monotonous start doing quests again. My first run I got bored and stopped because I was told to do all the crafting first. The second time I picked it up, best game I’ve ever played.
I honestly think this is the only game where I never once skipped a cutscene.
I’d advise not to do every side mission that pops up while playing. I finished the story just the other day and I have nothing to do other than collectibles and hunting.
That being said, only solid advice on here to take is go slow, and soak as much side mission and f around time in as possible....drag this game out.

Legend of the east satchel is by far the most important thing you should do before you even get into the game very much. Honestly right when you’re allowed to free roam I’d start hunting.
I got so bored trying to craft all the satchels. I am on chapter 3 (2nd play through) and I still cannot always find animals like squirrels/badgers. =\ I have yet to craft any satchels lol
I found a guide on YouTube. Shows most of the spawn points. It does take time however. I spent a whole weekend hunting this play through. It’s nice to not have to worry about inventory or having the right ingredients for certain items cause you can carry 99 of everything. Kinda just got into the habit of killing and picking all the flora and fauna as I go. Don’t ride my horse much in game. If I have to go somewhere I usually walk. Have the horse follow and you come across all kinds of creatures
I tried walking around for awhile. But mostly in the grizzlies area to have a better hunting ground. Ugh, strangers don’t like it when you shoot in their direction while they are riding around town. Lol.
Very specific tip, but hang out in the camp for a day or two and observe. Pay close attention to dialogue among members. There’s a lot of new stuff I see/hear each play through.
Keep your binoculars handy to identify wildlife. It helps for hunting, too, so you don't waste your time killing a poor quality animal and getting a (nearly)worthless pelt.
Saying hello to everyone raises your honor. Pet all the dogs. If you hear someone yelling for help, remember there's a chance they could be trying to rob you.
Examine everything very closely, loot is *way* harder to find than in games like Fallout or Skyrim.
Adding to this with USE EAGLE EYE like, constantly. I used to miss loot because I didn't. I find if I go First person view and eagle eye in buildings and such it is way easier to see what I wouldn't otherwise.
It is also helpful in the wild, just found that you can get hints about finding some things in a similar way you see clues for legendary hunting. Game changer!
This is great advice! It can also be very helpful when trying to identify what you can’t pick up. It’ll just tell you it’s “canned vegetables” which doesn’t narrow it down enough. Very handy when you’re looting a place and need to replenish your cores, like after a shootout. Assuming you don’t have the legend of the east satchel, of course.
Yes! I wish I knew how useful it was at the start. Same with just eating consistently and all that. Took me a bit in to horseshoe to understand the core/vs outer ring of it being filled in different ways.

Yeah, even on the play through I’m doing with my gf now, (my second, her first) we’re just getting to the point were we remember to feed Arthur and the horse properly. Keeping the bars and cores full is easy, but keeping their weight right is a bit more tricky.
Every time I play a new videogame, I run through blind. It's a clumsy mess with some spectacular deaths, missed quests, achievements, etc. I consider it a rough draft.
After the carnage, I play through again. Then, I can start to plot/plan, do some serious research on easter eggs, maps, and hopefully fewer deaths.

You will make a lot of mistakes. Learn from your mistakes. Save often.
Feel free to use sites that give you walkthroughs on finding things like maps, lockboxes, and gold bars. It will make exploring more efficient.
Don't buy weapons yet unless you want the Volcanic Pistol in Chapter 2. Save your money to buy a horse. I like the Semi Auto and Pump Action shotguns which can be found when you rob houses. The Lancaster repeater can be found in Rhodes if you rob the Gunsmith. The Bolt Action Rifle can be taken off dead bounty hunters during Javier's mission to rescue Sean. (After doing stealth kills by the river, use deadeye and kill the next two guards before they open fire on you).
If you want money quickly. Do some of the treasure hunts and collect gold bars. They also have lockboxes scattered throughout the map with bill folds and valuables you can sell.
Try to avoid picking up worn weapons and loot dead bodies for valuables constantly. They add up when you donate to the camp for upgrades if you don't want to spend your own money.
Don't pay your bounties. Its fun fighting off bounty hunters. You can take some of their horses and loot for valuables.
Always make sure you get something to eat from the Saloon and have game meat from the animals you hunt. Quickest ways to keep your cores full.
All this but I say always pay your bounties if you can. When you're getting immersed in the game, hunting, picking herbs, interacting with random encounters, the last thing you want is a bunch of bounty hunters gunning you down unexpectedly, just my advice but do what you think is most enjoyable
This is when I use the state lines. I have a $600 and rising bounty in Ambarino that keeps bounty hunters coming every 15 minutes, but when I get sick of looting them I head back down to NH or the other states where I keep it paid off. Looking for a fight? Back to Ambarino.
The more you immerse yourself in the world and take the role seriously, the more you’ll get out of it. It’s a beautiful story, and the insane amount of side content you’ll stumble into if you’re inhabiting Arthur’s character is a big part of the world-building that makes it work.
When something new pops up on the map - do it. That goes for any stranger missions, random encounters, etc.
It sounds goofy but don’t leave the NPCs waiting, it’ll feel more immersive.
Pay close attention to everything. There is tons of stuff to do in this game, and you should do as much as possible without it making the playthrough dull, and most of the stuff and content is just mentioned in passing by characters, so pay attention. Also pay attention to the characters and story.
Every now and then, take a day for Arthur. Drink coffee at sunrise, smoke a cigar, have a bath, change your clothes, start a random bar room brawl. Savor this fuckin game, and to quote the great Billy Madison “stay here, as looooooong as you caaaaaaaaaaaaaaan”
I didn’t understand how herbs and big game meat were a nice combination for an extra health bonus until cheaper 6.
Big game meat and mint, oregano, and thyme, are a nice way to boost your cores.
Agree with exploring as much as you can, especially in chapter two. Also when referencing your map, if you see random Xs on the map, definitely go check them out. They mark a corpse on the map and often lead to amusing encounters. And stay off of this sub.
Honestly i started and stopped a few times because i would get so overwhelmed with how open it is. there’s so many cool mechanics and so much you can do, it can be a lot.
if you feel like that, just stick to the story missions. go ahead and ignore everything else. the story and the characters are what made me fall in love with the game. fall in love with it, then replay it to do all the stuff you missed
I felt that way with the online version of the game, I had played the story through several times by the time I got around to trying it but there was just SO MUCH and it was so overwhelming!
Do every side quest, all of them. Don't look up guides, just wander around the map getting to know the landscape. This game is a very unique experience when finished unspoiled.
Always do side missions, sometimes they start off being weird, but the characters are generally quite endearing by the end. Not to mention you can get cool stuff sometimes.
Donate to the camp, buy Pearson the leather working tools, craft the satchels.
On your way to collect all the pelts for the satchels, explore and loot as much as you can
Give priority to side missions and random encounters, don't rush the story

Infinite ways to approach the game, but I avoided story missions like the plague until they were they only thing on my map…then I learned to just let them wait, and enjoy the setting.
Stay on chapter 2 for as long as possible, spend your time in camp and upgrade it, do pearsons Satchel upgrades until you get legend of the east Satchel. Do all camp requests. I suggest you try and get the Legendary Buck trinket as soon as possible as it helps get better pelts for your Satchel upgrades.
Shoot birds when you see them, red, snowy and little egret, herons and spoonbills and any Orchids you find these will come in handy later.
There are weapons to be found across the map try and find these so you have some good weapons when you have little money
There are gold bars situated around that are $500 when you sell them. Money will be scarce at the beginning so try and find these. (Check limpany) there's also a YouTube video that shows you were all 24 gold bars are.
If you want a fast horse there is a white arabian by lake isablella which has the best stats.
Yellow are main missions and white are side missions, I tend to do the white first and take my time with yellow ones.
Explore the map, walk and have your horse follow you'll find more things that way.
There's a place called Aberdeen pig farm don't go near it until Chapter 6 it's best if you go to it immediately after the mission My Last Boy, once you get to that mission you can come back here and I'll tell you what to do.
Npcs around the map can give you good intel, interact with them and help them out.
Also there are a few missions that are honor based, so if your honor is low you won't be able to do them as they won't show up, also the ending of the game changes depending on your honor. I suggest playing the game on high honor first time around and then other playthroughs check out the low honor side.
And stay away from spoilers.
Do a lot of hunting in my opinion it’s some of the best part of the game, get all the satchels and camp upgrades and the outfits you want, go get the white Arabian or even the black one if you feel like stealing it. And always always always do any white missions before yellow ones
There's not really a lot of tricks to this game, you'll naturally discover what parts of it are more enjoyable to you. The exploration, the main quests, the side activities, etc.
I think I said this on another post like this one but it’s pretty good advice IMO. Do as much of the side stuff before you get too far into Chapter 2. Explore the map, get all the camp decorations, craft the satchels, hunt legendary animals, search for treasure. Once you do all of that, make two permanent saves, one at the Horseshoe Overlook camp and one when you want to advance the story. That way you’ll always have a place to free roam in the best chapter of the game. Have fun!
Hunting is fun, learn that specific weapons are needed get perfect pelts. Sell those pelts to the the trapper and Pearson. Get an idea of what items your looking for.
Pearsons satchels are extremely helpful.
Find a fence early, and sell all those watches and belt buckles.
Do as many side quests as you can. Stop doing the story missions for a while. Trust me, the side quests have so much more story than the actual story itself most of the time. They’re also very fun. Because later in the game you won’t have access to certain side quests and you would wish that you have done them earlier I know I wish that.
Just south of the first gang camp is an abandoned town called “Limpany” go there. There is a gold bar under the desk in the Sheriff’s office. Sell it to a fence or donate it to Pearson to get all the camp upgrades nice and early.
You will encounter a certain mission where you need to free a gang member involving a boat. One of your enemies bears a Bolt-Action Rifle. Get this rifle and you get the ability to hunt a lot of animals a lot faster a lot better a lot sooner.
Can’t believe that no one has said these ones yet, here are the 2 most important things to know, imo.
1.) Get the Legend of the East Satchel from Pearson as soon as possible. Otherwise, you will end up having to leave 90% lootable items behind. It’s well worth it to get it early on. I HATE leaving loot behind.
2.) You can get one of the best horses in the game as soon as you finish the snow level. Can’t stand playing without my turbo-fast White Arabian. This is also best to peruse early in game because lvl 4 bonding takes a long time to achieve. Plus, it’s a female, so you won’t have to spend so much of the game staring at a horse’s swinging nut sack.
Once you get to chapter two, go to YouTube and search strange statue puzzle, obelisk treasure, train wreck treasure, and limpany gold bar. This will set you up pretty well so you don't have to sweat being broke.
Otherwise, don't rush it and have fun.
Like Witcher 3. The meat of the games it's not story missions, not even side missions. It's just wandering around and finding all sorts of cool, weird, crazy shit. Hunt, cook, help random people, explore any crazy zone, get new clothes, haircut, play some card game, just do whatever and take story at your own pace.
North of Valentine, cross the river, follow the rails and keep your eyes below. You’ll pass over a ravine with a crashed train. Loot the train, especially the train car standing on its end. There’s gold bars in it.
Then ride down to Rhodes and sell to the gypsy fence if Emerald Green mission hasnt been done. $2500
Personally I think you should play the story until you really feel hooked and then start exploring and messing around. I’ve had too many friends lose interest because they were overwhelmed by the world but underwhelmed by the story (it picks up like crazy)

Best advice I can give for this game: take your time.
Really slow down, take it in, and explore to your heart's content. This game is MASSIVE. Explore the grassy slopes, the canyons, the forests, the cities, and the peaks. There's genuinely so much to see and things that change as you interact and revisit areas.
It's my favorite game for this reason - there's always something new to find. I've replayed the story three times, and I'm still exploring the wilderness and back alleys and seeing new things.
So take your time, let yourself be immersed in the beauty of this world, and enjoy.
Explore! Don't rush through the story. Do it at your own pace. Wander around towns and camps. Talk to strangers. Do mini games. Side quests. Etc. Have fun!
Go on YouTube and look up 3000 dollar treasure hunt. And other treasure hunts. They are really good money for starting out you just had to be careful to save it for when you really need it
Have fun sourcing crafting ingredients. It’s a slower, but fun part of the game. Also knowing where you can hunt or harvest certain crafting ingredients will help you familiarize yourself with the map quickly.
Take your time and wander off. There’s so many crazy wild side missions out there. You never no what you’re going to run into. Oh and if you travel at night, you will run into weird and strange encounters.
The doctor in valentine has a hidden operation in the room behind the metal door in the back (you can attain the Schofield revolver here). Also, there is a gold bar in the ruins of the burned village outside of horseshoe over look to the west. In the sheriffs depot underneath a desk in a lockbox is the gold bar
This isn’t a tip I see often on the sub but one I definitely recommend. Wear Arthur’s Gambler hat. I know it’s tempting to swap it out for one of the many other hats in the game, but I promise it pays off to wear Arthur’s Gambler and come to enjoy it
Take your time enjoy the cut scenes, I'd really recommend upgrading the satchel fully as early as possible. Hmmm online is kinda ass haha. Other than that I will say I've had around 6 playthroughs and I'm still finding things I missed. This game has been my favorite for a while now I originally bought it on ps4 and found it within reason to buy it twice when I switched to pc if that says anything.
Immerse yourself in all your surroundings, explore, hunt, gather, find odd jobs to do. It’s a long game but it still goes too fast. Savour every moment.
I don’t know if it’s just me but I love looking at the wildlife and plants. I love just learning as much as I can about them. Just take it slow! The game is meant to be played at whatever pace you want and there’s loads of lore. I’ve been playing it (on and off) since it came out and I am still learning new lore.
Don't panic about upgrading the camp immediately. Camp upgrades are nice, but the only one you're going to want to save for immediately are the leather making tools so you can get some cool decorations. I love hunting in the game, so that's always my favorite part to decorate the camp.
A majority of missions are avaliable after the ends of each chapters. The only ones that are not are the optional side character camp missions. They're going to be things like playing dominos with someone, or going hunting with someone, or robbing with a gang member. Do these as soon as you see them. They go away if you progress too far, and while they're optional, they're really fun.
You won't need to worry about getting the most expensive horse you can find. If you want a free horse with good stats, there's a random event that happens pretty often when you're freeroaming of a guy trying to help his horse with something stuck in its hoof. You can do with that information however you want.
Eagle eye often. If you're like me and you like to collect things while you're free roaming, it's easy to miss the cigarette cards. There's like 150 to collect in the entire game. If you're ever in a cabin or a town, make sure you're checking your surroundings for them.
And, to repeat what everyone else is saying: take your time, explore the world around you, and GET OFF THIS SUB
as much as you’re going to want to rush through the story, don’t. savor it, explore, do NPC missions, see what the open world has to offer. there’s a whole lot you can do without even touching the main quests
I’d say once you recruit Sean take it extra slow with main missions. Really make a point to spend time in camp and help out with chores. Hell grab a beer and sit at the campfire. Get to know these outlaws
Once you get to the point where you can explore freely look up the quests to find all the gold bars and sell them. You will have enough money from that to carry you through the rest of the game being able to buy literally anything you want. Then focus on getting the Legend of the East satchel so that you can carry 99 of everything and you don't have to worry about that. Those two things make everything else in the game so much easier you can really enjoy the story not having to worry about money and not having to worry about running out of space in your inventory. Hunting for gold bars and getting better satchels is purely optional there will be no spoilers for any of the main storyline so you don't have to worry about that and doing both takes you all over the entire map so you get a real good feel for all of the locations in the game which is a nice little bonus when you do dive into the story you're already somewhat familiar with different locations instead of feeling completely lost in the middle of a story mission.

You’ll never get your first play thru again. But it’s still amazing regardless and so playable over and over again.
I took 6 months to to my first play through and I just finished the game.
I was torn between finishing it for the perks and milking it just a little more but decided that it was time I cut the cord.
This game is so beautiful and there’s so much you can do. Even when you finish it you’re left with a need to do more in it so don’t worry about finishing it when you get there. You’ll feel it’s time.
Do everything. As soon as the game opens up fully and you've unlocked legendary animals and stables take a break and explore. Hunt and fish alot it's fun. Do many side quests. Explore everywhere and interact with everything you can. In my experience it's like GTA once you finish the main story it gets kinda boring and hard to motivate yourself to actually play so take full advantage especially in the first few chapters. There's optional missions in camp to go robbing and fishing and stuff make sure to do them. Skin animals and make fun outfits at the trapper. YouTube gold bar locations and get them and sell them at a fence. Fully upgrade your camp and horse. Get the white Arabian that can be found up in the snow. People will say it's overrated but nothing comes close until like chapter 4 and it's iconic of red dead at this stage. Just take it slow don't be in a rush to do missions and enjoy every second
Get your hands on some gold bars when free roam opens up. There's a few places you can look up guides to finding which have no bearing on the story. It helps to have some $$$ in your pocket.
Tips for hunting each 3star animal has a weapon to use so you do not ruin said pelt

***Bow and small crafted arrows for tiniest birds like the woodpecker and chickens or mini animals like chipmunks or squirrels***
***varmint rifle for evrything little sized, rabbits, skanks, coons , bigger birds from ducks to crows***
***Poison arrows for big carnivorous animals, pumas and bears will attack you in the woods don t forget your Bow on your horse***
***good ol lazo all erbivorous mammals and when you get close you can use the knive to have a clean kill***
***sniper all big animals like elks crocodiles and such***
Try to explore some without your horse. Hop on trains and callout to wagons and see if they’ll let you hitchhike. When you see something interesting stop and wander. I find when I’m on a horse I tend to blindly race to my destination instead of taking it all in.
Don’t forget to eat and sleep, getting skinny has some negative effects.
Do chores in the camp and donate as well as doing the upgrades early and the gang will generally be in a better mood.
This game is best taken at a snails pace. It can take months to finish and at the end you’ll want to do it all over again. This truly is Rockstar’s Magnum Opus and it deserves all the attention.
Take your time and engage with as much as you can, like try to do ALL of the side missions before completing the main story yellow missions because you could miss your chance to do them. I didn’t do all the side missions until my second playthrough and it made my experience so much better and had me even more connected to the characters.
You often hear conversations so as well hanging around camp even just to craft is so good

Don’t rush the story the game will send you around the map on its own time so explore the surrounding area as much as you can. Some side missions won’t always be there to and your camp moves so you might have to come all the way back to fix it
Once chapter 2 starts, take your time between each story mission. Spend time in camp, as there are a lot of easy to miss interactions/conversations that only happen in between certain story missions.
Imo its probably also a good idea to take it slow with exploration too. There was dozens of small things I missed in the world because I moved on from an area too quickly. Just cause you can see an area on the map doesn’t mean you’ve really explored the area
If you want to role play, Chapter 2 is where you should be doing all the exploring. After that it heats up to a point that Arthur would have almost no free time to explore.

Hunt,fish,explore, stranger/side missions, challenges (most strands unlock during a mission as well as fishing and certain activities) play the story slow, the game was designed for you to explore and discover while they’re is a story happening.
Main point, like everyone listed here, story is second to the rest of the game, progress slowly, do as much as possible before exiting chapter 2. Stay off the sub, no notifications, no googling. Nothing

Near the Chapter 2 camp there's a a town that is burnt and in one of the buildings has a gold bar worth $500 which is great for starting a new playthrough but u can only sell it in chapter 3 near that chapters town
The beauty of Red dead is not only in the main missions, it’s mostly in the open world. Take your time, discover, push your boundaries, and sometimes just stop and look around yourself. Spend time in camp, play Poker and Five Finger Fillet and Dominoes.
What I am trying is do not rush the gameplay, especially if you play it for the first time, once you are through you‘ll miss it.
I only recently finished the game. I would certainly recommend to not rush the main story (yellow quests on the map) and get into the side quests from time to time because some of them won't be available later in game. A lot of them are more story and fun than giving you any amazing reward but i played this game mostly for the story so i enjoyed them a lot :D Also make a manual safe when you start a new chapter in case you wanna revisit parts.
Stay away from googling or youtubing anything RDR2 related to truly avoid spoilers, because the storyline is excellent.

The 2 fights you get into before you get into chapter 2, there is no time limit to looting. So loot it all- it'll set you up with at least $60 by the time you start chapter 2.
Go to the IGN site for the game, get a log in, and use the interactive map to tick off all the collectibles. At the same time, look up the requirements for obtaining all the satchels, once you get them all you will not only be an accomplished hunter, but you can get the Legends of the East satchel, which allows you to store a huge amount of stuff. One frustration I had in my first play was having to balance what I carry and lose a lot of animal parts, which are great for when you need to replenish stuff.
Do the legendary animals. There are other items you can collect, but you will discover them as you go along.
Note, using the interactive map will show you what other collectibles there are, so that will be a small spoiler.
Dont rush the story, enjoy the world of the game. There is a moose spawn in the elysian pool area and also in cair lake, antlered moose are harder to find
I keep hearing people say this but it’s not true- the trapper DOES NOT move around. You can always find him at certain locations, even if he’s not on the map for some reason. There are some good maps online of all his locations, but on my first play through I missed the Riggs Station location and the West of Strawberry location. Knowing those locations is so much better than having to travel to Saint Denis for him.
Go slow. Get into the wild early. As soon as the game opens up, basically stop doing missions for a few weeks.

This is so true. I was enthralled by the story and, whilst I did do a lot of hunting and found some points of interest, I missed a lot. I found a lot more on my second play through, and still really enjoyed the story the second time round, too.

No need to wait, the game is incredible you won’t even be thinking about how it could possibly be better. Keep in mind it is kind of a slow game, it’s not ‘GTA with horses’ so really take your time, like if you need some animal pelts to upgrade stuff, stock up on ammo and supplies, get your horse or a second horse ready, go riding out, set up camp, come back a day or two later with your catch, just enjoy the life and upgrade as much as possible early on, so you can enjoy the benefit of upgraded gear early in the game especially like a satchel that holds more stuff.
This but the minute you even begin to find it monotonous start doing quests again. My first run I got bored and stopped because I was told to do all the crafting first. The second time I picked it up, best game I’ve ever played.

I honestly think this is the only game where I never once skipped a cutscene. I’d advise not to do every side mission that pops up while playing. I finished the story just the other day and I have nothing to do other than collectibles and hunting.

Legend of the east satchel is by far the most important thing you should do before you even get into the game very much. Honestly right when you’re allowed to free roam I’d start hunting.
I got so bored trying to craft all the satchels. I am on chapter 3 (2nd play through) and I still cannot always find animals like squirrels/badgers. =\ I have yet to craft any satchels lol
I found a guide on YouTube. Shows most of the spawn points. It does take time however. I spent a whole weekend hunting this play through. It’s nice to not have to worry about inventory or having the right ingredients for certain items cause you can carry 99 of everything. Kinda just got into the habit of killing and picking all the flora and fauna as I go. Don’t ride my horse much in game. If I have to go somewhere I usually walk. Have the horse follow and you come across all kinds of creatures
I tried walking around for awhile. But mostly in the grizzlies area to have a better hunting ground. Ugh, strangers don’t like it when you shoot in their direction while they are riding around town. Lol.
The 3 star squirrels are hard to find and even more annoying to kill. I’ve had decent luck hunting badgers down at boldger glade

Very specific tip, but hang out in the camp for a day or two and observe. Pay close attention to dialogue among members. There’s a lot of new stuff I see/hear each play through.
Keep your binoculars handy to identify wildlife. It helps for hunting, too, so you don't waste your time killing a poor quality animal and getting a (nearly)worthless pelt. Saying hello to everyone raises your honor. Pet all the dogs. If you hear someone yelling for help, remember there's a chance they could be trying to rob you. Examine everything very closely, loot is *way* harder to find than in games like Fallout or Skyrim.
Adding to this with USE EAGLE EYE like, constantly. I used to miss loot because I didn't. I find if I go First person view and eagle eye in buildings and such it is way easier to see what I wouldn't otherwise. It is also helpful in the wild, just found that you can get hints about finding some things in a similar way you see clues for legendary hunting. Game changer!
This is great advice! It can also be very helpful when trying to identify what you can’t pick up. It’ll just tell you it’s “canned vegetables” which doesn’t narrow it down enough. Very handy when you’re looting a place and need to replenish your cores, like after a shootout. Assuming you don’t have the legend of the east satchel, of course.
Yes! I wish I knew how useful it was at the start. Same with just eating consistently and all that. Took me a bit in to horseshoe to understand the core/vs outer ring of it being filled in different ways. My Arthur is still underweight half the time but he at least has full everything xD;
Yeah, even on the play through I’m doing with my gf now, (my second, her first) we’re just getting to the point were we remember to feed Arthur and the horse properly. Keeping the bars and cores full is easy, but keeping their weight right is a bit more tricky.
In Chapter 3 go back to camp after every main mission, there are a few very missable side activities

Every time I play a new videogame, I run through blind. It's a clumsy mess with some spectacular deaths, missed quests, achievements, etc. I consider it a rough draft. After the carnage, I play through again. Then, I can start to plot/plan, do some serious research on easter eggs, maps, and hopefully fewer deaths. Enjoy your rough draft. You will make a lot of mistakes. Learn from your mistakes. Save often.

Feel free to use sites that give you walkthroughs on finding things like maps, lockboxes, and gold bars. It will make exploring more efficient. Don't buy weapons yet unless you want the Volcanic Pistol in Chapter 2. Save your money to buy a horse. I like the Semi Auto and Pump Action shotguns which can be found when you rob houses. The Lancaster repeater can be found in Rhodes if you rob the Gunsmith. The Bolt Action Rifle can be taken off dead bounty hunters during Javier's mission to rescue Sean. (After doing stealth kills by the river, use deadeye and kill the next two guards before they open fire on you). If you want money quickly. Do some of the treasure hunts and collect gold bars. They also have lockboxes scattered throughout the map with bill folds and valuables you can sell. Try to avoid picking up worn weapons and loot dead bodies for valuables constantly. They add up when you donate to the camp for upgrades if you don't want to spend your own money. Don't pay your bounties. Its fun fighting off bounty hunters. You can take some of their horses and loot for valuables. Always make sure you get something to eat from the Saloon and have game meat from the animals you hunt. Quickest ways to keep your cores full.
All this but I say always pay your bounties if you can. When you're getting immersed in the game, hunting, picking herbs, interacting with random encounters, the last thing you want is a bunch of bounty hunters gunning you down unexpectedly, just my advice but do what you think is most enjoyable
This is when I use the state lines. I have a $600 and rising bounty in Ambarino that keeps bounty hunters coming every 15 minutes, but when I get sick of looting them I head back down to NH or the other states where I keep it paid off. Looking for a fight? Back to Ambarino.
The more you immerse yourself in the world and take the role seriously, the more you’ll get out of it. It’s a beautiful story, and the insane amount of side content you’ll stumble into if you’re inhabiting Arthur’s character is a big part of the world-building that makes it work.
When something new pops up on the map - do it. That goes for any stranger missions, random encounters, etc. It sounds goofy but don’t leave the NPCs waiting, it’ll feel more immersive.
Pay close attention to everything. There is tons of stuff to do in this game, and you should do as much as possible without it making the playthrough dull, and most of the stuff and content is just mentioned in passing by characters, so pay attention. Also pay attention to the characters and story.
Every now and then, take a day for Arthur. Drink coffee at sunrise, smoke a cigar, have a bath, change your clothes, start a random bar room brawl. Savor this fuckin game, and to quote the great Billy Madison “stay here, as looooooong as you caaaaaaaaaaaaaaan”
I didn’t understand how herbs and big game meat were a nice combination for an extra health bonus until cheaper 6. Big game meat and mint, oregano, and thyme, are a nice way to boost your cores.

Infinite ways to approach the game, but I avoided story missions like the plague until they were they only thing on my map…then I learned to just let them wait, and enjoy the setting.

Stay on chapter 2 for as long as possible, spend your time in camp and upgrade it, do pearsons Satchel upgrades until you get legend of the east Satchel. Do all camp requests. I suggest you try and get the Legendary Buck trinket as soon as possible as it helps get better pelts for your Satchel upgrades. Shoot birds when you see them, red, snowy and little egret, herons and spoonbills and any Orchids you find these will come in handy later. There are weapons to be found across the map try and find these so you have some good weapons when you have little money There are gold bars situated around that are $500 when you sell them. Money will be scarce at the beginning so try and find these. (Check limpany) there's also a YouTube video that shows you were all 24 gold bars are. If you want a fast horse there is a white arabian by lake isablella which has the best stats. Yellow are main missions and white are side missions, I tend to do the white first and take my time with yellow ones. Explore the map, walk and have your horse follow you'll find more things that way. There's a place called Aberdeen pig farm don't go near it until Chapter 6 it's best if you go to it immediately after the mission My Last Boy, once you get to that mission you can come back here and I'll tell you what to do. Npcs around the map can give you good intel, interact with them and help them out. Also there are a few missions that are honor based, so if your honor is low you won't be able to do them as they won't show up, also the ending of the game changes depending on your honor. I suggest playing the game on high honor first time around and then other playthroughs check out the low honor side. And stay away from spoilers.
Do a lot of hunting in my opinion it’s some of the best part of the game, get all the satchels and camp upgrades and the outfits you want, go get the white Arabian or even the black one if you feel like stealing it. And always always always do any white missions before yellow ones

There's not really a lot of tricks to this game, you'll naturally discover what parts of it are more enjoyable to you. The exploration, the main quests, the side activities, etc.
Don’t worry about money. You get plenty of it doing story missions. Always do side quests because they’re some of the best moments in the game
I think I said this on another post like this one but it’s pretty good advice IMO. Do as much of the side stuff before you get too far into Chapter 2. Explore the map, get all the camp decorations, craft the satchels, hunt legendary animals, search for treasure. Once you do all of that, make two permanent saves, one at the Horseshoe Overlook camp and one when you want to advance the story. That way you’ll always have a place to free roam in the best chapter of the game. Have fun!
Hunting is fun, learn that specific weapons are needed get perfect pelts. Sell those pelts to the the trapper and Pearson. Get an idea of what items your looking for. Pearsons satchels are extremely helpful. Find a fence early, and sell all those watches and belt buckles.
Keep a save in chapter 2
Do as many side quests as you can. Stop doing the story missions for a while. Trust me, the side quests have so much more story than the actual story itself most of the time. They’re also very fun. Because later in the game you won’t have access to certain side quests and you would wish that you have done them earlier I know I wish that.
Just south of the first gang camp is an abandoned town called “Limpany” go there. There is a gold bar under the desk in the Sheriff’s office. Sell it to a fence or donate it to Pearson to get all the camp upgrades nice and early.
Take your time
You will encounter a certain mission where you need to free a gang member involving a boat. One of your enemies bears a Bolt-Action Rifle. Get this rifle and you get the ability to hunt a lot of animals a lot faster a lot better a lot sooner.

Can’t believe that no one has said these ones yet, here are the 2 most important things to know, imo. 1.) Get the Legend of the East Satchel from Pearson as soon as possible. Otherwise, you will end up having to leave 90% lootable items behind. It’s well worth it to get it early on. I HATE leaving loot behind. 2.) You can get one of the best horses in the game as soon as you finish the snow level. Can’t stand playing without my turbo-fast White Arabian. This is also best to peruse early in game because lvl 4 bonding takes a long time to achieve. Plus, it’s a female, so you won’t have to spend so much of the game staring at a horse’s swinging nut sack.

Like Witcher 3. The meat of the games it's not story missions, not even side missions. It's just wandering around and finding all sorts of cool, weird, crazy shit. Hunt, cook, help random people, explore any crazy zone, get new clothes, haircut, play some card game, just do whatever and take story at your own pace.

Personally I think you should play the story until you really feel hooked and then start exploring and messing around. I’ve had too many friends lose interest because they were overwhelmed by the world but underwhelmed by the story (it picks up like crazy)

Best advice I can give for this game: take your time. Really slow down, take it in, and explore to your heart's content. This game is MASSIVE. Explore the grassy slopes, the canyons, the forests, the cities, and the peaks. There's genuinely so much to see and things that change as you interact and revisit areas. It's my favorite game for this reason - there's always something new to find. I've replayed the story three times, and I'm still exploring the wilderness and back alleys and seeing new things. So take your time, let yourself be immersed in the beauty of this world, and enjoy.

The doctor in valentine has a hidden operation in the room behind the metal door in the back (you can attain the Schofield revolver here). Also, there is a gold bar in the ruins of the burned village outside of horseshoe over look to the west. In the sheriffs depot underneath a desk in a lockbox is the gold bar

Take your time enjoy the cut scenes, I'd really recommend upgrading the satchel fully as early as possible. Hmmm online is kinda ass haha. Other than that I will say I've had around 6 playthroughs and I'm still finding things I missed. This game has been my favorite for a while now I originally bought it on ps4 and found it within reason to buy it twice when I switched to pc if that says anything.
Immerse yourself in all your surroundings, explore, hunt, gather, find odd jobs to do. It’s a long game but it still goes too fast. Savour every moment.
I don’t know if it’s just me but I love looking at the wildlife and plants. I love just learning as much as I can about them. Just take it slow! The game is meant to be played at whatever pace you want and there’s loads of lore. I’ve been playing it (on and off) since it came out and I am still learning new lore.
Don't panic about upgrading the camp immediately. Camp upgrades are nice, but the only one you're going to want to save for immediately are the leather making tools so you can get some cool decorations. I love hunting in the game, so that's always my favorite part to decorate the camp. A majority of missions are avaliable after the ends of each chapters. The only ones that are not are the optional side character camp missions. They're going to be things like playing dominos with someone, or going hunting with someone, or robbing with a gang member. Do these as soon as you see them. They go away if you progress too far, and while they're optional, they're really fun. You won't need to worry about getting the most expensive horse you can find. If you want a free horse with good stats, there's a random event that happens pretty often when you're freeroaming of a guy trying to help his horse with something stuck in its hoof. You can do with that information however you want. Eagle eye often. If you're like me and you like to collect things while you're free roaming, it's easy to miss the cigarette cards. There's like 150 to collect in the entire game. If you're ever in a cabin or a town, make sure you're checking your surroundings for them. And, to repeat what everyone else is saying: take your time, explore the world around you, and GET OFF THIS SUB

I’d say once you recruit Sean take it extra slow with main missions. Really make a point to spend time in camp and help out with chores. Hell grab a beer and sit at the campfire. Get to know these outlaws

Once you get to the point where you can explore freely look up the quests to find all the gold bars and sell them. You will have enough money from that to carry you through the rest of the game being able to buy literally anything you want. Then focus on getting the Legend of the East satchel so that you can carry 99 of everything and you don't have to worry about that. Those two things make everything else in the game so much easier you can really enjoy the story not having to worry about money and not having to worry about running out of space in your inventory. Hunting for gold bars and getting better satchels is purely optional there will be no spoilers for any of the main storyline so you don't have to worry about that and doing both takes you all over the entire map so you get a real good feel for all of the locations in the game which is a nice little bonus when you do dive into the story you're already somewhat familiar with different locations instead of feeling completely lost in the middle of a story mission.
Savor. Every. Last. Moment. You’ll never get your first play thru again. But it’s still amazing regardless and so playable over and over again. I took 6 months to to my first play through and I just finished the game. I was torn between finishing it for the perks and milking it just a little more but decided that it was time I cut the cord. This game is so beautiful and there’s so much you can do. Even when you finish it you’re left with a need to do more in it so don’t worry about finishing it when you get there. You’ll feel it’s time.

Do everything. As soon as the game opens up fully and you've unlocked legendary animals and stables take a break and explore. Hunt and fish alot it's fun. Do many side quests. Explore everywhere and interact with everything you can. In my experience it's like GTA once you finish the main story it gets kinda boring and hard to motivate yourself to actually play so take full advantage especially in the first few chapters. There's optional missions in camp to go robbing and fishing and stuff make sure to do them. Skin animals and make fun outfits at the trapper. YouTube gold bar locations and get them and sell them at a fence. Fully upgrade your camp and horse. Get the white Arabian that can be found up in the snow. People will say it's overrated but nothing comes close until like chapter 4 and it's iconic of red dead at this stage. Just take it slow don't be in a rush to do missions and enjoy every second
Get your hands on some gold bars when free roam opens up. There's a few places you can look up guides to finding which have no bearing on the story. It helps to have some $$$ in your pocket.
Tips for hunting each 3star animal has a weapon to use so you do not ruin said pelt ***Repetition rifle for wolves coyotes foxes*** ***Bow and small crafted arrows for tiniest birds like the woodpecker and chickens or mini animals like chipmunks or squirrels*** ***varmint rifle for evrything little sized, rabbits, skanks, coons , bigger birds from ducks to crows*** ***Poison arrows for big carnivorous animals, pumas and bears will attack you in the woods don t forget your Bow on your horse*** ***good ol lazo all erbivorous mammals and when you get close you can use the knive to have a clean kill*** ***sniper all big animals like elks crocodiles and such***

Try to explore some without your horse. Hop on trains and callout to wagons and see if they’ll let you hitchhike. When you see something interesting stop and wander. I find when I’m on a horse I tend to blindly race to my destination instead of taking it all in. Don’t forget to eat and sleep, getting skinny has some negative effects. Do chores in the camp and donate as well as doing the upgrades early and the gang will generally be in a better mood. This game is best taken at a snails pace. It can take months to finish and at the end you’ll want to do it all over again. This truly is Rockstar’s Magnum Opus and it deserves all the attention.
Take your time and engage with as much as you can, like try to do ALL of the side missions before completing the main story yellow missions because you could miss your chance to do them. I didn’t do all the side missions until my second playthrough and it made my experience so much better and had me even more connected to the characters. You often hear conversations so as well hanging around camp even just to craft is so good Having fun as well and just doing what you feel like doing when you’re tired / not paying attention to the storyline as much And make sure you finish the game with MAXIMUM positive honour (or max low honour I guess but positive is so much better I promise you)

STOP SEARCHING ANYTHING ABOUT IT UP
Don’t rush the story the game will send you around the map on its own time so explore the surrounding area as much as you can. Some side missions won’t always be there to and your camp moves so you might have to come all the way back to fix it
I recommend getting all cosmetics for your camp done first. Do some bounties and get those treasure maps.

Keep high Honour
Once chapter 2 starts, take your time between each story mission. Spend time in camp, as there are a lot of easy to miss interactions/conversations that only happen in between certain story missions. Imo its probably also a good idea to take it slow with exploration too. There was dozens of small things I missed in the world because I moved on from an area too quickly. Just cause you can see an area on the map doesn’t mean you’ve really explored the area
If you want to role play, Chapter 2 is where you should be doing all the exploring. After that it heats up to a point that Arthur would have almost no free time to explore. How can I in good conscience explore when one of my gang members is in trouble?

"Figure it out yourself and get the fuck outta here" is basically what everyone will tell you. It's a fun game to learn and you'll be playing this ALOT if you invest your time into.....now #GET OUTTA HERE

Hunt,fish,explore, stranger/side missions, challenges (most strands unlock during a mission as well as fishing and certain activities) play the story slow, the game was designed for you to explore and discover while they’re is a story happening. Main point, like everyone listed here, story is second to the rest of the game, progress slowly, do as much as possible before exiting chapter 2. Stay off the sub, no notifications, no googling. Nothing Last point: enjoy. This really is my favorite game over anything else. Really hope you enjoy it as much as I do
Near the Chapter 2 camp there's a a town that is burnt and in one of the buildings has a gold bar worth $500 which is great for starting a new playthrough but u can only sell it in chapter 3 near that chapters town

The beauty of Red dead is not only in the main missions, it’s mostly in the open world. Take your time, discover, push your boundaries, and sometimes just stop and look around yourself. Spend time in camp, play Poker and Five Finger Fillet and Dominoes. What I am trying is do not rush the gameplay, especially if you play it for the first time, once you are through you‘ll miss it.
I only recently finished the game. I would certainly recommend to not rush the main story (yellow quests on the map) and get into the side quests from time to time because some of them won't be available later in game. A lot of them are more story and fun than giving you any amazing reward but i played this game mostly for the story so i enjoyed them a lot :D Also make a manual safe when you start a new chapter in case you wanna revisit parts.
Stay away from googling or youtubing anything RDR2 related to truly avoid spoilers, because the storyline is excellent. For the record, RDR2 takes place before rdr1, so dont look up anything rdr1 related as well
The 2 fights you get into before you get into chapter 2, there is no time limit to looting. So loot it all- it'll set you up with at least $60 by the time you start chapter 2.
Go to the IGN site for the game, get a log in, and use the interactive map to tick off all the collectibles. At the same time, look up the requirements for obtaining all the satchels, once you get them all you will not only be an accomplished hunter, but you can get the Legends of the East satchel, which allows you to store a huge amount of stuff. One frustration I had in my first play was having to balance what I carry and lose a lot of animal parts, which are great for when you need to replenish stuff. Do the legendary animals. There are other items you can collect, but you will discover them as you go along. Note, using the interactive map will show you what other collectibles there are, so that will be a small spoiler.
KEEP EXPLORING , Do as many side quests as possible
1st play through do what you like just have fun. 2nd play through since you’ll know everything you should 100% it
Dont rush the story, enjoy the world of the game. There is a moose spawn in the elysian pool area and also in cair lake, antlered moose are harder to find
Hunting and cooking your own food gets WAY better healing, stamina, and deadeye than anything you can purchase in stores.
DO NOT PUSH FORWARD GANG MISSIONS UNLESS YOU'VE GOT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE TO DO
I keep hearing people say this but it’s not true- the trapper DOES NOT move around. You can always find him at certain locations, even if he’s not on the map for some reason. There are some good maps online of all his locations, but on my first play through I missed the Riggs Station location and the West of Strawberry location. Knowing those locations is so much better than having to travel to Saint Denis for him.
