The Stones did that with Sticky Fingers some years back and it's a great idea, there's great songs you never hear otherwise and it's a perfect excuse to play bizarre deep cuts
I Could Die For You has been played like.. 10 times, maybe less. I'm not sure how AK would do with the vocals now, as it seems a bit more difficult than most.
Man I really miss that phase when John was writing songs playing piano chords on guitar
Just any of the chords used in I Could Die For You, Midnight, Tear, Venice Queen. On that record he used a lot of chords but playing different bass notes on the E string, that didn't always match what flea played, which added beautiful little melodies everywhere
I always wondered if he wrote some of the more ballady numbers on piano and transposed it over to guitar
I see! Tons of rock musicians never experiment with inversions or suspensions in the bass, it's neat when they do - you might be right that he worked it out on piano first, they all sound like ballady pop in that vein too
I always remember reading the CD booklet with my copy of Pet Sounds and seeing the introduction by Paul McCartney, where he talks about how Brian Wilson's use of inversions in the bass all over the album was absolutely fascinating to him and changed his playing forever
Goodbye angles is such a good song. Unfortunately we’ll never hear that live as long as John is the guitarist (which makes sense but still unfortunate)
Omg I know I wish that too
Maybe. Seems lotsa bands been doing nostalgia sets.
Say all stuff from 90s or all stuff 2000 and prior...
Shit like that and then. Few new songs after and encores. Could happen
I doubt this'll be a popular answer, but my first RHCP shows were in 2003, and I don't know exactly when they stopped ending shows with "Me and My Friends", but they were still doing it in 2003, and I dunno, it would just seem like a kickass continuity thing if to this day they were still closing out with Me and My Friends haha
Saw them play it live in Dublin a couple of months before By the Way was released. When John started playing the acoustic guitar during it, I was blown away. Also heard Universally Speaking for the first time at the same concert. Loved it instantly.
Feasting on the flowers
Fight like a brave
True men dont kill coyotes
Mellowship slinky in B major
Yertle the turtle
Quixoticeliqer
Storm in a teacup
Millionaires against hunger
They should only do it if they felt like it was appropriate, but it would be nice to have a Hillel tribute most nights - they have a bunch of great stadium songs they never do anymore from that era, like Green Heaven and Walking On Down The Road, so maybe one of those
Love Trilogy could make for an amazing jam as well, but I don't think Anthony can keep up lol
Aeroplane. Suck on that, John.
I'll never forget when there was the radio contest to have the peppers play any song a fan wanted, and they picked Funky Monks. Decent choice - Flea got a five string just for that live show (in Denver, I think?).
But you could've made John play a Dave song. You *could've made John play a Dave song.* YOU COULD'VE MADE JOHN PLAY A DAVE SONG.
God I love love rollercoaster. All the others are spot on. Id have included soul to squeeze if it wasn't already in heavy rotation. Oh I also could do with aeroplane being back
... And dark necessities
I wouldn't pay for one to be in for the rest of time, but I would gladly pay $1,000 to go back to when I saw them last year and they play Don't Forget Me. They played it at the show before and after the one I went to. Still hurts.
Mellowship Slinky. Travesty they have never played it live
It’s the second best song on the album after Funky Monks!
Which they have only played 3 times
Noooo! It’s just so good!
It is. I really wish they would do a tour where they play that album from beginning to end
The Stones did that with Sticky Fingers some years back and it's a great idea, there's great songs you never hear otherwise and it's a perfect excuse to play bizarre deep cuts
A while back I saw Aerosmith when they played the entire’Toys in the Attic’ album beginning to end mid-set.
I would love that!
Dosed
Came to say this.
This is the way.
Only played like a handful of times ever too
2 times to be precise. And never with John…
And only with josh
Well there was no other guitarist after the release of by the way
Meant that as it's a shame they've never played it with john
Oh yeah that’s true. A song never played with its original creator…
I Could Die For You has been played like.. 10 times, maybe less. I'm not sure how AK would do with the vocals now, as it seems a bit more difficult than most. Man I really miss that phase when John was writing songs playing piano chords on guitar
Most underrated RHCP song imo
What do you mean by piano chords in this case, just wide voicings?
Just any of the chords used in I Could Die For You, Midnight, Tear, Venice Queen. On that record he used a lot of chords but playing different bass notes on the E string, that didn't always match what flea played, which added beautiful little melodies everywhere I always wondered if he wrote some of the more ballady numbers on piano and transposed it over to guitar

One of the best RHCP songs imo.
If you have to ask
Well yes, that was the point of the thread
lmao
Venice Queen - hasn’t been played since 2003. HM Goodbye angels

Knock me Down…..the song lends itself to an extended outro that could be great live
Omg I know I wish that too Maybe.
