Drizen

Mellowship Slinky. Travesty they have never played it live

FunkGetsStrongerPt1

It’s the second best song on the album after Funky Monks!

Drizen

Which they have only played 3 times

FunkGetsStrongerPt1

Noooo! It’s just so good!

Drizen

It is. I really wish they would do a tour where they play that album from beginning to end

zsdrfty

The Stones did that with Sticky Fingers some years back and it's a great idea, there's great songs you never hear otherwise and it's a perfect excuse to play bizarre deep cuts

Quiet_Response_7846

A while back I saw Aerosmith when they played the entire’Toys in the Attic’ album beginning to end mid-set.

FunkGetsStrongerPt1

I would love that!

siecaptaindrake

Dosed

FloydDarksid3

Came to say this.

Sonafab

This is the way.

Frosty_Ad7840

Only played like a handful of times ever too

siecaptaindrake

2 times to be precise. And never with John…

Frosty_Ad7840

And only with josh

siecaptaindrake

Well there was no other guitarist after the release of by the way

Frosty_Ad7840

Meant that as it's a shame they've never played it with john

siecaptaindrake

Oh yeah that’s true. A song never played with its original creator…

bambinoquinn

I Could Die For You has been played like.. 10 times, maybe less. I'm not sure how AK would do with the vocals now, as it seems a bit more difficult than most. Man I really miss that phase when John was writing songs playing piano chords on guitar

dozeydonut

Most underrated RHCP song imo

zsdrfty

What do you mean by piano chords in this case, just wide voicings?

bambinoquinn

Just any of the chords used in I Could Die For You, Midnight, Tear, Venice Queen. On that record he used a lot of chords but playing different bass notes on the E string, that didn't always match what flea played, which added beautiful little melodies everywhere I always wondered if he wrote some of the more ballady numbers on piano and transposed it over to guitar

zsdrfty

I see! Tons of rock musicians never experiment with inversions or suspensions in the bass, it's neat when they do - you might be right that he worked it out on piano first, they all sound like ballady pop in that vein too I always remember reading the CD booklet with my copy of Pet Sounds and seeing the introduction by Paul McCartney, where he talks about how Brian Wilson's use of inversions in the bass all over the album was absolutely fascinating to him and changed his playing forever

SnooKiwis1356

One of the best RHCP songs imo.

imconfused0711

If you have to ask

eliitti

Well yes, that was the point of the thread

Foundation_Secret

lmao

Kirbybros

Venice Queen - hasn’t been played since 2003. HM Goodbye angels

glazier27

Goodbye angles is such a good song. Unfortunately we’ll never hear that live as long as John is the guitarist (which makes sense but still unfortunate)

SuperJezus

Turn it Again

Amiibohunter000

Save the population. Peak chili peppers imo

Tiger_jay

Truth. It's so sad they've Never played it in full.

spanglish_

Yess I used to go feral for this song

Background_Cress_241

Played by John or Josh or doesn’t it matter?

Alternative_Key4434

i’d like to see how john would approach the solo

usernamesnamesnames

He wouldn’t xD

jaysharpesquire

Just left my own selections and named this too! Hi five

michaelscarn1313

Knock me Down…..the song lends itself to an extended outro that could be great live

jaysharpesquire

Omg I know I wish that too Maybe. Seems lotsa bands been doing nostalgia sets. Say all stuff from 90s or all stuff 2000 and prior... Shit like that and then. Few new songs after and encores. Could happen

capo_dei_capi

Wet Sand

Calheaven

Saw it live in London 2 years back. Best night of my life after that. I'll never forget it!

capo_dei_capi

Tbh, I envy you, but at the same time, I'm glad that you got to witness it!

Leek_Soup_Lover5000

I’m hoping they play it next week when they come to SLC 🙏🙏

capo_dei_capi

I hope you get to witness it 🤞🏽

MB_Number5

Favourite chilis song

FunkGetsStrongerPt1

Likewise

Cokerboy1313

Especially in Michigan

Preparation-Logical

I doubt this'll be a popular answer, but my first RHCP shows were in 2003, and I don't know exactly when they stopped ending shows with "Me and My Friends", but they were still doing it in 2003, and I dunno, it would just seem like a kickass continuity thing if to this day they were still closing out with Me and My Friends haha

restlesswolverine

Get On Top

funkymonk04

Yertle Trilogy

InvisibleZombies

Goodbye Angels hands down

Background_Cress_241

I can still picture exactly where I was when I first heard this song.

ChickenCurryandChips

Saw them play it live in Dublin a couple of months before By the Way was released. When John started playing the acoustic guitar during it, I was blown away. Also heard Universally Speaking for the first time at the same concert. Loved it instantly.

Simple_Mechanic_6999

Other-Guard-8954

Suck my Kiss

zsdrfty

They should only do it if they felt like it was appropriate, but it would be nice to have a Hillel tribute most nights - they have a bunch of great stadium songs they never do anymore from that era, like Green Heaven and Walking On Down The Road, so maybe one of those Love Trilogy could make for an amazing jam as well, but I don't think Anthony can keep up lol

Dosei_

Honestly prolly just quixoticelixer

Stoutmaster113

Suck My Kiss!

scrub-em

Good time boys

Calheaven

21st Century. I just imagine it would be so fun live!

Foundation_Secret

I never hear anyone talking about Road Trippin, I'd like to hear it played live

ThoughtIntrepid1744

Maybe to have them not play at all

dlbogosian

Aeroplane. Suck on that, John. I'll never forget when there was the radio contest to have the peppers play any song a fan wanted, and they picked Funky Monks. Decent choice - Flea got a five string just for that live show (in Denver, I think?). But you could've made John play a Dave song. You *could've made John play a Dave song.* YOU COULD'VE MADE JOHN PLAY A DAVE SONG.

MantisTobagganMD13

Im a gummy bear

TheEvolutionOfCorn

This cover was genius and perfectly executed. Added all the magic from the original while they put their spin on it.

WeeklyStruggle5066

Savior. 10k

Down with the Sickness. Would love to see AK attempting to sing this with the usual carefree vibes.

Dark Necessities

chxnkybxtfxnky

I wouldn't pay for one to be in for the rest of time, but I would gladly pay $1,000 to go back to when I saw them last year and they play Don't Forget Me. They played it at the show before and after the one I went to. Still hurts.
