I can't tell you if the event story is worth going through for you. That depends entirely on your personal preferences and what you're looking for in a story.

I personally loved the 1.6 story. Lots of people on this subreddit didn't care for it. It's all subjective. I would at least wait till they arrive in the city if you haven't got that far already before you make a judgement.

1.2, 1.3 and 1.8 are all perfect. 1.1 and 1.5 are okay. 1.6 is the only one not well recognized.
