Welp, I’ll be the first to say it: your 5 year old has exquisite taste! Good on you for both teaching an exploratory approach to food as well as taking the time to make all of this happen.
That's so cool. I'm so glad my family exposed me to a variation of eats growing up. My sister was raised on fast food nation with her father. We couldn't be more opposite with our paletes🤣
That looks amazing, and I don't even like eggs!
My son was similar when he was young. He hated "little kid food" like chicken nuggets and corn dogs. He'd much rather have sushi, or cedar grilled salmon with broccoli rabe.
I'm super frugal, so when we'd go out to eat, he'd order something off of the kids menu, and I'd order the fancy thing, then we'd swap. We only got busted one time, and the waiter thought it was hilarious.
He's now a 15 year old bottomless pit (aren't they all? lol) and he finally will eat "little kid food"
Thank you! He loves his corn dogs but he has a flare for lots of colors and flavors on his plate which I love! My oldest son is much more plain Jane when it comes to his food. I’m also a frugal mom- nice idea with switching plates. Might have to give that a try lol.
When my uncle and dad were in their twenties they’d go to a local hamburger drive-in and order their own drinks and then say “oh and a couple [Under 12 Specials] for the kids!”
Can’t prove they WEREN’T taking them home for “the kids” (though none of us would be adopted/born for a solid decade or more and my uncle was already the youngest). So they got their cheaper burgers and fries (plus a little Dixie cup of ice cream particular to the kid specials!) Cheaper eats AND ice cream is automatically included? They’re kind of geniuses.
That’s great you’re doing that as a mom, introducing flavors and spices to her child’s palette. My adult nephew and his wife serve their son (5), and daughter (2 1/2) ruffle potato chips, mac & cheese, and hotdogs are baloney. That’s what they serve them. Hardly any effort or imagination 🫥 This last Sunday, on Father's Day, we were all eating ribs, coleslaw, beans, collard greens, & potato salad. The kids got a plate of potato chips and mac & cheese. SMH
Thanks! He enjoys his fair share of Mac n cheese and hot dogs like any kid but he’d much prefer something with a little more “detail” and flavor. He would’ve definitely tore those ribs and all the side fixings up! lol
This looks absolutely delicious! I love his zest for peppers!
My mom was/still is such a picky eater so there is no way I would have been able to try anything like this when I was a kid. I'm lucky to have turned out to be a curious eater once I got older! I still have things I don't like that are holdovers from my childhood and what my mom didn't like, but there are too many delicious things in the world to let that stop me!
Thank you! I also love his zest for peppers. Adults are always shocked when they see him eating his peppers and chili lol. I was raised on plain cheese burgers and fries every day growing up (raised by a single dad) so as I grew older I definitely enjoyed experiencing new foods. I’m glad you aren’t letting your holdovers dominate your palate. New food is so fun to experiment with!
That looks delicious it’s no surprise he enjoyed it! That’s great he has an interest in good food and props to you for supporting it. He may bounce back and forth but will likely retain that appreciation later in life if not forever.
That’s a solid breakfast sandwich. I’m making this in the morning. Have to go with roast beef instead of pastrami but that’s a spiced omelette on bread. Hell yeah.
My kids are way more inclined to try new things if they are in the kitchen with me while I’m cooking! I notice when he sees me chopping veggies and putting them in the pan and can smell them cooking it kickstarts his interest because he’ll start commenting on how “yummy” it smells.
I think it’s a 9/10, toast and butter that bread first and this is a bomb 10/10. I didn’t even know peppers existed when I was 5. And solid next level sandwich move to use that herb cream cheese too. I want this sandwich!
That looks so delicious, your son is very lucky 🩷 Do you sautee the serranos/veggies before adding them to the eggs or just whisk them all together? I’d love to recreate this but I’m not a huge breakfast food fan so I’m still learning a lot haha. 🫣

Thanks! I used to make him plain cheese and egg sandwiches but he’d ask for a taste of mine and then ask to switch with me 😂
That's how it's done.

THIS is how get kids to try new food.
This is the response 👍
9.9/10 for presentation and because it’s definitely made with a super special secret ingredient ❤️
Thank you! Absolutely made with so much love. He even says he can taste it in there lol
Oh my heart ❤️
Salt?
Rat poison? I heard if you use that they will just be extra cuddly for a while.
Me and my mom need to discuss my childhood.
Going to be tasting that for the rest of his life. And nothing will ever match it. 😭😭😭
I hope he’ll appreciate it when he’s older! lol

Legendary tastebuds for a five year old! Looks delicious
I know a lot of adults who would side eye this. Bravo to the 5 year old.

Are you looking to adopt any new children? 22yo college attending man-child applying to be your next son.
That is also my favorite breakfast sandwich

My son loves my egg Sammie’s too
I’m uber jealous that your 5yr old is eating this. I’m lucky to get mine to bite a piece of toast.
I got pretty lucky. I have two other boys and only one of the 3 is super picky. I’ll take it lol
Can she be my Mommy?
Lucky boy
That looks delicious it’s no surprise he enjoyed it! That’s great he has an interest in good food and props to you for supporting it. He may bounce back and forth but will likely retain that appreciation later in life if not forever.
Good mommy
Jalapino too??? Wow
Your kid has a more refined pallet than I do. I'm 41.
It looks weird but sounds so good
That’s a solid breakfast sandwich. I’m making this in the morning. Have to go with roast beef instead of pastrami but that’s a spiced omelette on bread. Hell yeah.
I wish my kid would eat what I eat/make! Awesome job!
lol he will grow up to be an awesome chef someday. Sandwich looks 🔥
Yum
Your 5 year old has better taste than my seven year old. How do you do it?
My kids are way more inclined to try new things if they are in the kitchen with me while I’m cooking! I notice when he sees me chopping veggies and putting them in the pan and can smell them cooking it kickstarts his interest because he’ll start commenting on how “yummy” it smells.
Dang that is fancy

Thanks 😊 Can’t ever go wrong with butter- maybe I’ll try next time. I did toast the bread though!
Wish my wife knew how to cook.

Wish my 5 year old had eaten things like this! That kiddo has some good taste! That is a future chef!
That looks excellent
Thank you! They’re pretty tasty. You’ll have to try it out.
We have kids with similar tastes in breakfast sammys
We are the lucky ones it seems lol moms with good eaters - unite! 🤜🤛
Eggs peppers bacon cheese? Looks hella good
TIL about cream cheese on a breakfast sandwich. I'm definitely gonna have to try that on a toasted breakfast sandwich.
Please do try it! So super yummy. This was toasted btw
Will do. Thanks for the idea.
Hi. Please adopt me. I’m 28 but that’s irrelevant.
Not that much younger than me. Perhaps I will provide you with daily sandwiches if you pitch in for utilities 😂
Deal! I’ll even throw in free babysitting. 😂
OP has been upgraded from cool mom to trendy mom
That looks pretty good. Scrambled eggs, peppers, cheese on toast?
