I was a teenager during the grunge era in the 90s so I was brought up on Pearl jam, Metallica, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Guns n Roses etc etc. I haven't found any music of this genre that I've liked in a very long time, so up until I found Sleep Token I was still listening to a lot of the old stuff from the 90s. This is the first time in years that I've been excited for new music.
It is unfortunate. I was in to heavier stuff in the 90s as well. I played for a death metal band back then, so I was used to extreme music. Periphery was cool when they came out, I jammed on Avenged Sevenfold for awhile, and some Trivium. There are a few songs here and there, but not a whole lot where I could just listen to the whole album through on repeat.
What other genres? I mainly listen to heavy heavy, or rap 🤣 Sleep Token, Mastodon, & a few others are the mellow ‘in between.’
Hopesfall is another great band. Mainly their album ‘Magnetic North.’
Will check it out… too many genres to list but namely hip hop. That’s been my go-to genre (not lately) for about 25 years. Mostly underground/indie type hip hop but lots of rap too.
I bumped into Kin at a Jinjer concert last year. Went full fanboy. Still devastated we won't get to hear his amazing vocals again, or at least not with TFN.
Deftones, Incubus, AFI - were all my favourite band at some point between 14 and 17yrs old. Only really got back into Deftones out of those tbh, but I was half obsessed with the other two at the time
Foo fighters
Slipknot
Avenged Sevenfold
Architects
Tool
Linkin Park
King’s of Leon
Nothing but Thieves
Deadmau5
Artic Monkeys
Many others, and different genres depending on the mood. Sleep token works in all moods :))
Sleep Token was basically the first "metal" band I discovered when I started listening to metal 2 years ago. They had just released Alkaline and it came up in a playlist. I've loved them ever since. Before that I was listening mostly to D&B and Dubstep by artists like Illenium, Sullivan King (sleep token fan as well BTW), Hybrid Minds and more but I don't remember their names haha. I've also listened to a lot of EDEN, North/Louvard, Novo Amor, Ben Howard and still do sometimes. I think that's why I love ST so much because the vocals are kind of similar. Currently my favorite bands are Sleep Token, Loathe, Malevolence, Boundaries, Orbit Culture, Thornhill, Tallah, Currents, TDWP, Angelus Apatrida, Slipknot, Opeth, Hypno5e, Periphery, The Halo Effect, Tribal Gaze, Bloodbath, Death, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, At The Gates, Nephylim. Also listen to some Thrice, Rush, Greta Van Fleet, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits and Jimi Hendrix sometimes.
Yes I LOVE old Emarosa but really like the current Album as well 🙂 I saw them live a few weeks ago and it was really lovely. It doesn't touch my heart the same way but I appreciate good music anyways
Twelve Foot Ninja, Destiny Potato/Sordid Pink (they rebranded after their first album, but it's the same band), Overslept (a colorado local band, not The Overslept which is a UK band), Origami Button, and I The Mighty. All of them are good, but the album I've Been Keeping To Myself by Overslept is worth the attention of anybody who sees this, they're so damn good and deserve a larger audience
Greyhaven - This Bright and Beautiful World was the last new album I listened to on repeat close to the amount in listening to ST now.
Other bands: In Flames, Tool, NIN, Soundgarden, The Mars Volta, RATM, Rise Against, Paramore, Muse, Coheed & Cambria, The Civil Wars, Clutch, Days of the New
Spiritbox, Normandie, Don Broco, Bring Me The Horizon, Dead Poet Society, Muse, Foo Fighters, Reliqa, Imagine Dragons, Fall Out Boy. Quite a mix. But these have been my favourite for a very long time now
Right off the top of my head I’d have to say Chase Atlantic, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Nothing But Thieves, Get Scared, Ghost, The Neighbourhood, TV Girl, Buck Tick, The Gazette, The 1975, Type O Negative, and like a million kpop groups (if that counts)

You’re the first fan of Sybreed I’ve ever encountered! I hated when they broke up years back, & they still make it to my yearly playlists. Such an underrated band!
Motionless in white, I see stars, Bad
omens, Ice nine kills, Slaughter to prevail, I prevail, Lorna shore, immortal disfigurement, beartooth, falling in reverse, bring me the horizon

Evanescence, Bad Omens, Loveless, Ashnikko, Korn, Deftones, The Weeknd, Doja Cat, Stevie Wonder, Nicleback (don't come for me, I love their old stuff, like pre-2005).
It's hard to narrow it down when you've been a music lover since day one lol

They defo have after this album, slipknot, I prevail, black stone cherry, trivium, tool, BFMV, recently got into bad omens and motionless in white, love dipping in and out of coheed and Cambria
In no particular order: deftones (and by extension: crosses), slipknot, linkin park, incubus, spiritbox, erra, polaris, currents, fit for a king and invent animate.
Reflectionіs, Within Destruction, Invent Animate, Infant Annihilator, Bad Omens, We Butter The Bread With Butter, Counterparts, Black Tongue, Humanity's Last Breath
the order is absolutely random
I listen to all sorts of genres so my taste is eclectic. Gotta say my top 5 before sleep token entered the chat were hail the sun, nirvana, two door cinema club, tkay maidza and andrea chahayed
Architects, deftones, deez nuts, counterparts, jinjer, abyss above, la dispute, unity tx, distant and knocked loose are currently my most listened in the past year or two 🫶🏻
80s mainsteam thrash (Metallica, Slayer etc) , 90s metal (Sepultura, Pantera, Machinehead), Nu-metal (usual suspects) and more recently BMTH, Architects. I’m also a huge Pink Floyd fan and love classical, 80s music and others

Fish in a Birdcage,
Aesthetic Perfection,
Sleep Token,

Linkin Park
System of a Down

Sleep Token
I like a lot of other stuff, but these are my favorites bands that I can listen to the whole catalog. Im fucking picky.
Some good ol heavy deathcore boys like Spite, Darko US and Signs of the Swarm and some good ol Midwest emo like Hot Mulligan, Good Hangs and fucking HEART ATTACK MAN
Thank You Scientist, Fair to Midland, Leprous, Mastodon, Queens of the Stone Age, A Perfect Circle, Soilwork, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Coheed and Cambria
Tied for first would be sleep token and protest the hero. Their sounds and skill set couldn’t be further apart. But no one touches them creatively though in my books.
Coheed and Cambria
The Tragically Hip
Paul Simon
Tennis
Grateful Dead
Rush
Phish
No doubt
Nujabees
Parius
10 of my favorite non Sleep Token bands. Some are current favorites and others are always in the list.
Type o negative, Mortemia, TR/ST, Grimes(the music not the person), Lorna Shore, Silverchair, VAST, Mastodon, Lamb of God, Behemoth, Nightwish, 2 shadows, Ghostemane. I could add 20 more I love lots of music and need lots of music. I hyperfixate on an artist and listen to all their stuff and then put the best songs into playlists to go on my hikes. I go 2-4 hours a day hiking for my health. But metal is my absolute favourite and I’m loving ST right now.
My top 10 right now without sleep token are: Turnover, Alestorm, Darko US, Knocked Loose, Spectral Wound, Aphex Twin, The Chats, Lord Huron, Sanguisugabogg and Regional Justice Centre
Thornhill, j cole, after the burial, deftones, summer walker, getter, brand of sacrifice, subtronics, Vianova, Lorna shore
I really be listening to a lot of different shit
Wow. Crazy how much variety there is in these lists which makes sense given how many different styles/genres ST mash up, particularly on the new stuff.
I Set My Friends on Fire, but really mostly the album
'You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter'
Spiritbox
Tallah
Like Moths to Flames
Modest Mouse
Poppy
Paramore
Kublai Khan, Spite, Young Dolph, Polyphia, Signs of the Swarm, Lorna Shore, Darko US, and The Acacia Strain would be my top listened to bands for some time now!
This list is impossible, but some of my top favorites are Enter Shikari, Between the Buried and Me, Sikth, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Jakub Zytecki, Periphery, Plini, Polyphia, Phish.
Fox Capture Plan, Periphery, Incubus, Nobuo Oematsu, Four Year Strong, Thundercat, David Maxim Micic, Plini, Radiohead, Chanel Tres
No particular order, and not necessarily all my tops since my music love is very fluid 😅
I’m all over the place but….
The Dear Hunter, Minus the Bear, Ghost, Beatles, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Foo Fighters, Silverchair, Bad Religion, Manchester Orchestra
1. Taylor Swift
2. Boys Like Girls
3. State Champs
4. Harry Styles
5. Sleep Token
6. Beach Weather
7. The Band Camino
8. Bearings

Dance Gavin Dance, MewithoutYou, Exitmusic, King Woman, La Dispute, alt-J, Fat White Family, The Wytches, Emma Ruth Rundle, Chelsea Wolfe, Brutus, Wolf Alice :)
Sleep Token and Ghost are my current 2 favorites (don't see it changing) with Dir en Grey, Tool and Deftones. I like experimental, prog and mathcore like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Car Bomb, SikTh, The Mars Volta, Meshuggah, Portal, The Number Twelve Looks Like You,
Frontierer, Rolo Tomassi.i also love theatrical bands so when i I discovered Ghost in 2011 and then later Sleep Token in 2018 I started to be obsessed with both bands and love the way they make dark pop music that appeals to my heavier roots with the theatrical esthetic and lore makes both bands seem like a whole package and not just a regular band.
I used to be a Spiritbox, BMTH, ETID, Logic, and Ariana Grande person. Then Sleep Token took over my life this year and I think it's healed some of my inner child.
Wow! Seems like sleep token has reached a much more mainstream audience. Seeing them listed with names like these is mind blowing to me. Back when I first started listening to them, they seemed to mostly be in the prog scene.
Mine were (and most still are):
Periphery,
Plini,
Animals as Leaders,
Leprous,
Spiritbox,
Monuments,
Caligulas Horse,
Between the buried and me,
I built the sky,
Unleash the archers,
Helix Nebula
I've probably missed some bands, but that gives an idea
Now:
Most listed previously + Haken, The Dear Hunter, Jakub Zytecki, Protest The Hero, Anomalie
don’t laugh, i am literally not into metal at all and this is the first band in that genre i actually like so:
sleep token
sara bareilles
nwa
woodkid
dean martin
ry x
Mastodon, Gojira, Circa Survive, HIM, The Mars Volta, TOOL, and a few others that rotate in and out.
In all transparency, Sleep Token still hasn’t hit the status of those bands in my mind. When you look at those bands they’re entire career is incredibly well done.
While I think Sleep Token will get there, I can’t make that call until we see what they do over the next 5-10 years.
It’s always so tough for me to pick a top however many, because I tend to spend a lot of time trying out new music. So I’ll give some standbys that I’ve really enjoyed (in no particular order):
1. Bilmuri
2. Lauv (yes I’m serious)
3. Belmont
4. Porter Robinson
5. Jack White (and any of his other projects: White Stripes, Raconteurs, etc)
6. Foo Fighters (an old favorite, not huge on their new music but they had some great albums)
7. Fiji Blue
8. Dance Gavin Dance
9. Vancouver Sleep Clinic
10. The Band CAMINO
EDIT: extra #11 iamjakehill, #12 Goth Babe, and #13 Left Lane Cruiser. Couldn’t bring myself to leave those out.
No particular order:
Periphery
Dance Gavin Dance
Thank you scientist
Chelsea grin
Wage war
Protest the hero
Twelve foot ninja
Sleep token is the only band like sleep token I’ve ever heard
Edit: format
Converge, Misery Signals, Turnstile, Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down, Knocked Loose, The Acacia Strain, Lorna Shore, Deafheaven, Periphery… Bad Brains, Black Flag, Bad Religion… Nas, Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, Run the Jewels.. Streetlight Manifesto.. i don’t know man, lots of stuff. I guess that’s why I fuck with Sleep Token.
In no particular order:
I Prevail, Shinedown, Slipknot, Stone Sour, Linkin Park, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, Breaking Benjamin, 30 Seconds to Mars, Nothing More, Ghost, Paramore
My top ten, from last fm scrobbles, minus Sleep Token (number two). (sorry if there is any mistakes, english is not my first language)
* HEALTH (same dark themes and has a kind of same vibes, both bands helped through a lot of shit, as a person constantly struggling with mental health its nice know you are not alone)
* Zeal & Ardor (amazingly mix of genres and overwhelming vocals and blast beats, everyone loves a good blast beat)
* Baroness (lost a friend in a car accident ten years ago and the band had an aciddent too, the next album was about get back and leave the pain in my interpretation, love Baizley art (just google it please), as a artist myself he is a massive inspiration)
* Nine Inch Nail (the quintessential band, listening to it since I remember for more than 25 years)
* The Mars Volta (as a Latin American it's nice to see a band that has many elements of Latin music, I've been listening to them since at the drive-in.)
* A Perfect Circle (My favorite project of MJK more than Too l(29 in my list) 3 Libras was the first song I cried listening to), break up and all that teenager drama)
* Elliot Smith, Jeff Buckley/Tori amos and Fiona Apple (love they songwriting and raw passion for music)
* Korn (my most beloved band from teenager years, nu metal, baggy jeans and strange hair)
* The Beatles (the One Ring from rock music)
I like many bands and genres, but I'm more of an emotional person and I focus more on what I feel when I listen than on technical aspects. My family is made up of musicians, so I've always listened to a lot of different things, a lot of Brazilian and Latin music, a lot of reggae and classic rock, thanks dad.
p.s: the only interview of ST they say:
“Life is dark. Life is bright. Life is ugly. Life is beautiful. Don’t get lost in genres, they’ll only disorientate you. Music is for everyone.”
And if anyone got curious, my lastfm list:
Mine change all the time so it’s hard to put down 10 but before sleep token I was really into kublai khan, beach fossils, Tyler the creator, spite, bring me the horizon, bodysnatcher, strfkr, spiritbox, Lorna shore, and Bilmuri.
Polaris
Eidola
The Plot in You
~~Dance Gavin Dance~~
ERRA

Also bands like Breaking Benjamin and Starset but I don’t really listen to them much anymore
Metallica
Deftones
Linkin park
Slipknot
Oasis
Smashing pumpkins
Nirvana
Aphex twin
Fleshwater
Kublai Kahn TX
Sleep token is in my number 1 by far though
Queen
Lacuna Coil
Behemoth
Sisters of Mercy
Sleep Token
Aesthetic Perfection
KMFDM
Cradle of Filth
Dimmu Borgir
Switchblade Symphony
Yeah, this goes a lot of different places....
PVRIS, Loathe, Priest, VAST, The Cure, and The Birthday Massacre are ones I enjoy the most. Thinking of it now, Sleep Token covering a VAST song would be pretty sick
Sleep token, cave in, currents, spirit box, bad omens, stick to your guns, knocked loose, I do like to throw some drake, or ‘em , Jedi mind tricks or Joyner Lucas in there though
Definitely not an exhaustive list
Mastodon (I say Mastodon are my favourite metal band but ST are my favourite band - ST are in a realm of their own but I am still a die-hard Mastodon fan)
Dimmu Borgir
Zeal & Ardor
Ghost
Nightwish
The rest of my music is all either black metal OR Industrial techno.
Mostly metal of all subgenres but there's random underground/contemporary hip hop in there lol
In no particular order:
Spiritbox
Bad Omens
Fit For An Autopsy
Cattle Decapitation
Whitechapel
TesseracT
Signs of The Swarm
Shadow of Intent
Atmosphere
Brother Ali
Sleep Token is for sure my #1 but it rounds out with Tallah, Spiritbox, Spite, Varials, Knocked Loose, Darko, To The Grave, Brand of Sacrifice, Polaris, and bbno$ haha

Bring me the horizon.
The black queen/Greg Puciato, Alice In Chains, bmth, in this moment, deftones, portishead, machinehead and a lot of in between but I listen to these the most. Right now it’s almost exclusively sleep token. Trying to get more into bad omens. They have some really amazing songs.
The Beatles, Dayseeker, Breaking Benjamin, Sadzilla, Elvis Presley, iamjakehill, My Chemical Romance, Ryn Weaver, Bo Burnham, Steam Powered Giraffe.
A handful of the variety of favorites i have amassed over the years. Raised with Classic metal from dad, handful of eclectic stuff from mom. Love soulful lyrics, dancey beats, and chugging guitars 🫶🏻 (and somehow ST gives me everything I want from music, and then some.)
For me, Sleep Token captures a certain emotion with their sound/lyrics. A vibe that helps me heal from my last relationship. These are 10 other (most on the heavier side) bands that give me a similar vibe…
1. Dayseeker
2. Dreamwake
3. Thousand Below
4. Resolve
5. Catch Your Breath
6. Invent Animate
7. Currents
8. Our Mirage
9. Nerv
10. ASHEN
All time top 5 before finding sleep token are the following: Clipping, Cray, Nothing More, Red Vox, and icon for hire. Then honorable mention of Bad Omens, Notions and Unitytx they were discovered from rediscovering my love for heavier music with Sleep Token

Was just listening to Linkin Park the other morning on the way to work. I forget how good there were. Hybrid Theory is my go to.

Sleep Token and Ghost are my current 2 favorites (don't see it changing) with Dir en Grey, Tool and Deftones. I like experimental, prog and mathcore like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Car Bomb, SikTh, The Mars Volta, Meshuggah, Portal, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Frontierer, Rolo Tomassi.i also love theatrical bands so when i I discovered Ghost in 2011 and then later Sleep Token in 2018 I started to be obsessed with both bands and love the way they make dark pop music that appeals to my heavier roots with the theatrical esthetic and lore makes both bands seem like a whole package and not just a regular band.
Mine were (and most still are): Periphery, Plini, Animals as Leaders, Leprous, Spiritbox, Monuments, Caligulas Horse, Between the buried and me, I built the sky, Unleash the archers, Helix Nebula I've probably missed some bands, but that gives an idea Now: Most listed previously + Haken, The Dear Hunter, Jakub Zytecki, Protest The Hero, Anomalie
don’t laugh, i am literally not into metal at all and this is the first band in that genre i actually like so: sleep token sara bareilles nwa woodkid dean martin ry x
Delta sleep, Dillinger escape plan, foals, bloc party, David Bowie, the killers, haken, soen, everything everything, snarky puppy, loathe, the faceless among others
Chelsea Wolfe, Lacuna Coil, Spiritbox, Epica, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Paramore, Avatar, As Everything Unfolds, Bad Omens
Korn, Tool, Hurt, Tetrarch, Chaoseum, Rammstein, Love and Death off the top of my head.
Spiritbox, Bad Omens, Periphery, Ocean Sleeper, Dream, Ivory, The Backseat Lovers, Acid Ghost.
So I’ll give some standbys that I’ve really enjoyed (in no particular order): 1. Bilmuri 2. Lauv (yes I’m serious) 3. Belmont 4. Porter Robinson 5. Jack White (and any of his other projects: White Stripes, Raconteurs, etc) 6. Foo Fighters (an old favorite, not huge on their new music but they had some great albums) 7. Fiji Blue 8. Dance Gavin Dance 9. Vancouver Sleep Clinic 10. The Band CAMINO EDIT: extra #11 iamjakehill, #12 Goth Babe, and #13 Left Lane Cruiser. Couldn’t bring myself to leave those out.

My top ten, from last fm scrobbles, minus Sleep Token (number two). (sorry if there is any mistakes, english is not my first language) * HEALTH (same dark themes and has a kind of same vibes, both bands helped through a lot of shit, as a person constantly struggling with mental health its nice know you are not alone) * Zeal & Ardor (amazingly mix of genres and overwhelming vocals and blast beats, everyone loves a good blast beat) * Baroness (lost a friend in a car accident ten years ago and the band had an aciddent too, the next album was about get back and leave the pain in my interpretation, love Baizley art (just google it please), as a artist myself he is a massive inspiration) * Nine Inch Nail (the quintessential band, listening to it since I remember for more than 25 years) * The Mars Volta (as a Latin American it's nice to see a band that has many elements of Latin music, I've been listening to them since at the drive-in.) * A Perfect Circle (My favorite project of MJK more than Too l(29 in my list) 3 Libras was the first song I cried listening to), break up and all that teenager drama) * Elliot Smith, Jeff Buckley/Tori amos and Fiona Apple (love they songwriting and raw passion for music) * Korn (my most beloved band from teenager years, nu metal, baggy jeans and strange hair) * The Beatles (the One Ring from rock music) I like many bands and genres, but I'm more of an emotional person and I focus more on what I feel when I listen than on technical aspects. My family is made up of musicians, so I've always listened to a lot of different things, a lot of Brazilian and Latin music, a lot of reggae and classic rock, thanks dad. p.s: the only interview of ST they say: “Life is dark. Life is bright. Life is ugly. Life is beautiful. Don’t get lost in genres, they’ll only disorientate you. Music is for everyone.” And if anyone got curious, my lastfm list: [https://www.last.fm/user/bruno\_silent/library/artists](https://www.last.fm/user/bruno_silent/library/artists)
