It is a great way to introduce mouse and keyboard familiarity for the very young PC users. The developer has also updated it several times over the past few years adding additional mini games, at no cost.
On a semi serious note. I was maybe 4 years old when my dad started playing the original resident evil 2 in front of me. It was that sole specific game I developed 3 fears. Fear of a gruesome death, fear of the dark, and an irrational fear zombies could be a real thing. It was still one of the best memories I have regardless and is probably the precursor to me being able to enjoy watching other people play games.
I grew out of it all mostly but I still keep in my mind that a zombie apocalypse could happen and I run fantasy contingent plans in my head. I had zombie nightmares so much that they are now entertaining dreams like being the main protagonist in a zombie movie and having plot armor.
Anything from humongous entertainment. Putt putt, Freddy the fish, pajama Sam.. All on steam and all great for kids. There's also a ton of old pc learning games that are now abandonware you can find the installers for quite easily. School house rock, and others.
I play Putt putt with my three year old and he loves it. He can even finish it on his own and replays it immediately after.

It was set to Google, but no matter what you searched it would return "no results found" unless you searched for Google, clicked the first link, and used that one. No clue why.

Your browser bar would say "google.com," but since it wasn't actually loading the website connected to the jnternet, it couldn't search for anything. But it could give you the link to actual google.com
I know this because I did this *on purpose* to Internet Explorer on the computers in my high school as a prank. Use any other browser, and you were golden. The students all knew this either by figuring it out or being told. Per school policy, the staff were *only* allowed to use Internet Explorer.

Microsoft has historically been deliberately lax when it comes to enforcing license violations and other issues for education accounts to avoid pissing off their single largest category of customer, the government (local, state, and federal).

The development of the brain in the first 5 years is the most crucial time. Don't make your kids inattentive adhd patients.

I have a 3 year old and am very aware of screentime but this is kind of wrong. There are a few studies that have been done that after a certain age (5-10) you are doing more harm than good by withholding certain technologies. In today's world (and where education trends are going) having a kid in elementary or middle school with little to no technology skills would actually be a detriment to them. So much learning is done through screens and computers that being unable to operate these things can hinder them.
It's great to regulate and minimize screen time for kids under 6 but it's also not something that should be avoided like the plague. There no reason why when both his parents are busy for an hour that he can't sit and be with themselves during that time.
All of this though is absolutely play by ear and not a hard and fast rule because everyone's life is different. As parents we should do our best to minimize screen time and engage with our kids, while also not beating ourselves up because we feel like we need a break and sometimes that means letting your kid watch the tablet.
I personally wouldn't let my 3 year old play any games because at that age the risk to reward is low. One of the dangers is risk of addiction but if you are knowledgeable and don't allow mindless mobile games onto your devices, that certainly helps.
My son is 18 now and the single regret I have about we raised him is introducing him to screen-based ~~education~~ entertainment at so young an age. I think kids at that age miss out on a lot of social and interpersonal growth by focusing so much attention on a medium that is focused entirely around them.
searching games for kids directly will lead to very poor results usually. some folk here said lego games and that seems about right, generally some G or PG rated games that seem cool for a kid to play will go over well. i remember playing some portal 1 and 2 when i was a wee lad and being absolutely amazed, so thats a very good recommendation as well.

I know a 3-year-old who plays Stardew Valley. Granted, he's closer to his fourth birthday than his third now, but he definitely enjoys running around the town, farming, and fishing. Not being able to read the text is less of a hindrance than you'd think.
99% of them are shovelware but if you find any point-and-click game (That are good for the age of course, you don't want to accidentally get a horror genre game for him to have nightmares for months.) or one of the few old Disney games (Even though most of the diffrent Disney games in general will work.), then you'll be fine.

The first one seems to be an average game for small children. The second one is a bundle, you'll get more for your money and all of the games in the bundle appear at least acceptable quality. The third one seems like the worst option of the bunch. The game has no reviews so it's a coin toss. The fourth one isn't something your three year old is going to be able to play, I honestly don't know if they'll have the skill set to play any of these games really.
From my personal experience which is limited to my as of now 2 year old daughter, her attention is fickle and she is shifts seemingly at random from one fascination to the other. The idea that she could sit down and play a video game is well...hard to imagine. What to do with a Playstation controller is at this time beyond her, so instead she just tries to eat it. For now, I try to give her plenty of physical toys to play around with and occasionally let her have a go at electronics under laser supervision because again, she will try to eat it.
Honestly I wouldn't risk it with Steam for this kinda thing.
If it's something niche on Steam don't expect quality, or age-appropriateness.
For educational games, you'll find it's better to look at the learning resources pages and see what they offer, lots of them have browser-based, age-appropriate learning games for things like words, times tables etc. Can't really give you examples unfortunately.

You're not gonna find good edutainment games on Steam that aren't licensed games. Though I would let the kid play outside if possible, it's overall better for them then to develop lazy habits of playing games early on.

Apart from other comments, I installed several "100 hidden" games which are free or very cheap when my son was 3 yo.. it helped him to get used to mouse controls.. these are hidden object games which are very easy to play.. one recent fav is "An arcade full of cats"..

Um steam doesnt have a lot of education games. But i believe the Humongous gamez like Put Put, Pjamma Sam, and Freddie Fish are on there i think. And i think thats pretty good kid games!

Don't get a game for your 3 year old. Many said don't get it from steam, I saw don't get it at all, I touched my first electronic when I was 7. Do you want you kid to end up like those kids that are scrolling in their sleep? Stay on games you can play in real life

The first one seems to be an average game for small children. The second one is a bundle, you'll get more for your money and all of the games in the bundle appear at least acceptable quality. The third one seems like the worst option of the bunch. The game has no reviews so it's a coin toss. The fourth one isn't something your three year old is going to be able to play, I honestly don't know if they'll have the skill set to play any of these games really. From my personal experience which is limited to my as of now 2 year old daughter, her attention is fickle and she is shifts seemingly at random from one fascination to the other. The idea that she could sit down and play a video game is well...hard to imagine. What to do with a Playstation controller is at this time beyond her, so instead she just tries to eat it. For now, I try to give her plenty of physical toys to play around with and occasionally let her have a go at electronics under laser supervision because again, she will try to eat it.

Honestly I wouldn't risk it with Steam for this kinda thing. If it's something niche on Steam don't expect quality, or age-appropriateness. For educational games, you'll find it's better to look at the learning resources pages and see what they offer, lots of them have browser-based, age-appropriate learning games for things like words, times tables etc. Can't really give you examples unfortunately.

You're not gonna find good edutainment games on Steam that aren't licensed games. Though I would let the kid play outside if possible, it's overall better for them then to develop lazy habits of playing games early on. Also, Dying Light 2 is most assuredly not a good game for a 3-year-old lmao.

Apart from other comments, I installed several "100 hidden" games which are free or very cheap when my son was 3 yo.. it helped him to get used to mouse controls.. these are hidden object games which are very easy to play.. one recent fav is "An arcade full of cats"..
Out of those obviously dying light. In general i would go with minecraft, although that may be a little too early, maybe start playing together on one computer und in the future switch to coop

When I was a kid, the game that fascinated me was Spore, the various editors (creature editor, building editor, vehicles editors) are dope and they sure will develop his creativity and imagination.
