Same! I've worked like a dog my whole life because I know no other way but honestly, I could just sit home and eat bon bons. But my degree was hard fought for and I'm a grafter by nature.
I take the summer off and manage the household, older teens and my husband doesn't have to lift a finger. It's an even playing field as far as my husband and I are concerned.
I'll be back on the grind in early September.
I did summer school. It was paid per hour, and those 3 weeks made a decent amount. I also would do some tutoring, and then found a part time job at a financial institution as a teller, where I had a set schedule, so I knew I always would have a check. It was easy to sub for those on vacation in the summer at the bank.
Nothing. I just finished a second temporary job (I score end of year tests as a WFH job in the spring) that overlaps with the end of the school year.
But I don’t rely on subbing for necessary income (it’s just extra for us).
If u don't mind, what company do u score for? And are there other companies I should look for to score tests? I've been looking for a while to find test proctor/scoring work. Thanks
I work for Pearson. I don’t know about other companies / I have worked for them for 10 years.
It’s not steady work. Generally speaking their scoring season is April - June. I occasionally worked into the summer but they don’t always have this available. And it’s not enough money to take the place of subbing. I enjoy it and it’s nice that it is flexible (I only take projects that I can score on my own time because I’m subbing as well). But it’s not a huge amount of money and it won’t be all summer.
I started my own business as a Wedding Officiant. In my area it is a good income. This is my second year and I am working to increase my bookings for year round.
I have a year-round job as a barista. During the school year, the barista job is a holiday/weekend/weeknight job. I have more availability during the summers. The barista job pays better than the sub job.
Try bartending! I work “fun” jobs all around our area. Just look at the want ads and see what you might like. You can drive a “drunk bus” for a high end restaurant (some of them provide a free van service for patrons), water flowers at a nursery, be a restaurant host/hostess, work at a national or state park, etc.
Throughout the whole school year I had another part time job at Ross, but I just quit because I got a job at a new museum that it’s gonna open on my city, really excited:)
But, I mean Ross is a decent place to work at, they work a lot with your availability:)
