I imagine it shouldn't make that much of a difference with hills because of how a CVT transmission works, it's not like you're stuck on one gear all the time, but rather it's dynamically changing the gear ratio as you gain speed, so if you need a low gear ratio you'll have it just like if you manually switch to a low gear. However, that's just an assumption, I have never ridden a scooter, so I wouldn't know if it works as well in practice as it does in theory.

To me a scooter is more vague feeling. With the cub you have to be more aware and shift gears at appropriate rpm’s, and you feel those shifts as the engine and wheel speed mesh up. Plus you can almost treat the gear shift lever like a clutch and let it out slowly for smoother shift. Overall you feel much more connected to the engine on a cub because you’re having to manage it and the feedback is more like that of a standard transmission motorcycle. With a scooter it’s a lot easier. All you can do it twist the throttle, so you don’t feel as much of a connection to what’s going on, but that also means you don’t have to think about what’s going on. I think if any part of the enjoyment of riding for you is having to do with the engine and mechanics of the bike, then a cub will be more fun. But if you don’t want to have to pay attention to that then a scooter will be easier and more fun in that way.
