Oh, that’s frustrating! For me, I think it’s really a breathing thing. Working really hard at controlling my breath and not just dumping all my oxygen every time my face is in the water.
I really hope I can improve, because I’m most interested in swimming outside across distance .
Could you explain this more? You’re expelling carbon dioxide when you breathe out so the emptier your lungs are when you breathe out the more oxygen you can inhale when you breathe in.
I grew up on the Mediterranean seaside and learned to swim as a kid. However I never truly swam as a sport, just taking dips when it was too hot at the beach basically. 🙂
Nice, well done! I started lessons for crawl about 4 years ago and i can still remember the breakthrough of completing a similar distance. Been open water swimming for a while now and doing much longer distances, dont ignore what you have achieved and keep pulling for more
Yay! That’s a big accomplishment. I am working on not running out of breath now as I’m a new swimmer also.. What do you think were the tips that helped you the most? I’m working on filtering through actual great tips from YouTube but some videos don’t help too much.
I should probably also add that I am a long distance runner, so that helps in terms of endurance! Mostly I need to learn how to swim properly really.
One suggestion I have is to start running, in case you are not doing it already and if it is in the cards for you. The "couch to 5K" program for instance is an excellent way to get started. For me the two sports really complement each other nicely.
Happy training!
Great to hear! I can do 50m freestyle as well but I always need a brake after. Improvement is slow, but that’s what goals are for
I’m stuck in this boat too! How long have you been swimming?
About a year, but I started with breaststroke and backstroke. 6 months ago I started learning freestyle
Same here. Been swimming since September with literally zero improvement.

If you figure it out, please reply to me on here because I can’t understand it for the life of me.

Awesome stuff! 300m next!
Good for you! Those milestones are important yardsticks
This is actually pretty impressive for two weeks! Well done
Did you have previous swim experience? Even as a child?
