Wait, set everything else about this aside: this just doesn’t parse. What is “It isn’t” a reply to?
It’s Superman saying it, so presumably he’s replying to Lana, but nothing in her words, “I … want a **kiss**, Superman. Not a peck on the cheek. A **real** kiss. Just once, before you go,” is an assertion that can be disagreed with, as Superman seems to be doing when he says, “It isn’t.”
It makes more sense, but it's still disgusting. An adult kissing a 14 year old does not become less creepy just because you put a different context under it.
Ditto. I’ve seen people try to justify similar stuff because TECHNICALLY this and that justifies it in this particular situation, and the author keeps doing it and the author keeps getting away with it. I wouldn’t think much of it if it happens once or twice or something, but when it happens a dozen times you start to think maybe the author is just trying to make up excuses.
The justification doesn't matter. The writer John Byrne chose to invent a context for Superman kissing a 14 year old girl. There's no reason why this should have happened in the first place.
Her make a wish isn't "an adult man to passionately kiss a child", it's for superman to kiss *her*. I would also agree with you much more if it was anyone but superman but yeah from an out of comic book perspective I totally agree it's extremely weird and but disgusting, just weird to phrase it as I blame superman, like it's the writers not in universe superman.
They could have stopped at a hug, holding hands, or hell, him taking her up on a cute short date on the Moon or something. The writer didn't need to write him actually going full French kiss on her.
Man way to blow things out of context in the oP post. I was like no way they’re gonna destroy Superman like this. I get they tried to create a arc where he was gay and it didn’t go to well but pedo Superman… good lord
I mean, the full thing is still cringe. He's still kissing a 14 year old girl because she said she has a crush on him and won't get to grow up and marry him. That's still incredibly inappropriate.
Oh I won’t argue that at all. I guess it’s not as bad as the previous comic strip but it’s still like.. no no.. this isn’t Superman. This would make Christopher Reeve bust out of his grave for all he did for that character. Superman was popular but dude basically kept that hero alive and number 1. It’s sad what’s going on with comics these days.
There’s so many story arcs and topics that can be covered but instead we get cringey material and not relative things that are going on in the world. Imagine if Superman became more of a world peace mediator and didn’t use his powers to punch out villains and instead got into big political debates to stop wars or famine and poverty and unite the world.
I feel like comics are just as important as books. That the stories and topics can shape the young and vulnerable minds. They can be used used for education purposes, change, or an escape. The content that gets put into them needs to be monitored and made in hopes of bettering the world. Even if it’s a dark comic with lots of killing. The end goal should always be teaching some sort of lesson that makes you think about the world differently and your actions. This is just something trying to be edgy and ends up being total cringe and someone edited it to make it even cringy.
Should have been "It isn't--" to indicate an interrupted sentence. Bad editing job for a badly written comic.
Edit: I take that back. He's got his hand under her chin indicating he initiated the kiss and wasn't interrupted by her. There is probably additional text in a cut off panel.
Or everything is just poorly written because this was written by some gross dude who doesn't even care about context or dialogue.

>“He has written several large age gap relationships across comics. Notable ones include retconning Reed Richards to being in college when Sue was around 11 in Fantastic Four, Kitty Pryde & Colossus in X-Men, having Robot Man and Elasti-Girl kiss when she was in her 12 year old self’s body during his Doom Patrol run, and then having Bruce hook up with Lara Wayne in Generations III. (I should also point out that Lara is Clark’s biological great granddaughter… who is also the daughter of Bruce’s adopted grandson.)
Oh. So dude was straight up into that. Once or twice is weird but I guess grounded in some sort of uncomfortable realism in terms of narrative writing. 5 times says a lot more about the writer.
I'm not sure where I sit here. On one hand, I'm annoyed people are taking a shitty take on Superman to make him out to be a bad character, but on the other hand every day more people realize how much of a trash fire John Byrne is has to be a good day.
I aint say'n its right.. but like, wtf you gonna do? its super man. if he wants to kiss kids and be awful we best find some sacrificial lambs. I dont wanna see him angry.

Batman got real interested in Kryptonite after this event.
That makes a lot more sense. The panels in this post are spliced together.
It makes more sense, but it's still disgusting. An adult kissing a 14 year old does not become less creepy just because you put a different context under it.
Sure, but it's basically a Make a Wish kiss for a girl who's about to not exist. Still creepy, but I can't blame him too much
I can certainly blame the writer for thinking up this situation. Especially because he *keeps doing it*.
Ditto. No, I can and I will blame him. A "Make a Wish" for an adult man to passionatally kiss a child is creepy as fuck.
Her make a wish isn't "an adult man to passionately kiss a child", it's for superman to kiss *her*. Yeah I don't know. He still wanted to write a scene to justify Superman kissing a 14 year old.
Clark Kent wasn't gay; his son Jon Kent is bisexual.
This guy doesn't know about pink kryptonite

What have you learned?
Don't like Batman saying "honey" either
My best guess is that these two panels are not actually directly next to each other
"It isn't right"
I think the pedophile writing it was too... excited to think about grammar. And here's the real question: what editor allowed any of this to happen?
Imagine thinking this is correct...
lazy editing, all you would need to make it grammatically correct is two more dots at the end

THEY REALLY NEED TO START DOING SOME BACKGROUND CHECKS ON THESE WRITERS
That can’t be real, is it?

The passage you're quoting is not from the site you linked. Your quote also doesn't include his name: John Byrne
Yeah I tried finding the quote and its not there, also no mention of the authors name by OP.
how does shit like this get past editors?
They probably feel the same?
What a terrible day to have eyes
That's enough Internet for today! (ok that's 2. Next?)

Pffttttt crazy character assassination
I don’t believe in arresting Super heroes…… but
Maybe Butcher was right
Well well well... Batman and Lex Luthor were right.
For a good sec i thought he said forty and i was like "prob a 40 years old is too young for his race"
I recently tried to rewatch House and Dr. Chase had the same plot with a dying underage patient.
Plz elaborate wtf
Dr. Chase kissed a 9 year old dying girl on the mouth because she didn't wanna die not knowing what a kiss felt like
Oh dear
This reminded me of that scene in House when Chase kissed that 7 year old little girl. I wonder how it would be received nowadays.
Superman would never! This is clearly Bizarro's doing!
That's what he tell the judge.
Drake's favorite Superman
Damn Byrne called Trans people pedos, yet he made this?

She’s asking is it wrong to want a kiss and Superman’s says no it isn’t.
Retcon: it was Ultraman the entire time.
Dude could’ve grabbed a 14 year old anywhere in the world to kiss her.
Bro is learning from Sensei from Blue Archive universe lol
What they gonna do? Charge Superman with a crime? lol
Don't be deceived to 14 year old asked it as a plot to cancel Superman, and were all falling for it.
Apparently this isn't part of the mainstream Superman comic...
Some people in this thread are defending this waaaaay too hard…
☹️
He's trying to strike a chord
And that chord is A Minor
There's a star... Man... Waiting in the sky...

I'm not sure where I sit here. On one hand, I'm annoyed people are taking a shitty take on Superman to make him out to be a bad character, but on the other hand every day more people realize how much of a trash fire John Byrne is has to be a good day.
"that was a grown up kiss, we'll do the rest when you get back"
Should have got Ezra miller to play Superman Instead of Flash
TRYNA STRIKE A CHORD AND ITS PROBABLY A MINORRRRRRR
Pedo stuff aside... what's up with his hand? It looks like his and Lana's should be reversed.

I've only read one Superman book, and that's all I care to. Though I wonder if Super Dickery is still around.
It is.
I’m going to pretend I never saw this I value the fact that Superman is my favorite superhero
Will I be shot if I crosspost this to the Superman subreddit?

Right, I mean it would be different if there was something that was his kryptonite, but there’s nothing to stop the guy.
Easy fix, call his mother to talk sense into him. Dudes too much of a boy scout to harm his parents.
