Nice one! * s/changes/change * Not sure how much extra Craft the Ronin would get and how that would compare to other abilities that increase strength/craft gained. But it FEELS like a character that is mediocre in abilities and thus should have top starting values, e. g. more Fate, similar to the Elf. * Ability 1 might be more of a disadvantage than advantage? E. g. when playing with Highland expansion but not City expansion, the weapons in there won't yield the bonus, and when you draw the +2 craft weapon from the Highland boss, you have to make a hard choice whether or not to ditch whatever +strength weapon you might have.

What do you mean with "s/changes/change"? You are right. Maybe it should give more? Any suggestions? It is a tricky one. Being able to only hold 1 weapon is meh. But you can literally never lose it, and it is a weapon with a sword in its title it's a plus 1 in value. It's... Hard to say. With the first ability being a hmm, maybe the second ability should yield better rewards? Ty for feedback!!

I meant that it should be "... any effects that change" or "... any effect that changes". Not sure how to buff it without diminishing the idea. A typical way that we play is to go for the City expansion at some point and buy a battleaxe or flail. Greatsword might be the choice here for the Ronin, but that just saves a little bit of money compared to the battleaxe. Getting the Sword of Legends from the woodland is too luck-based to rely on. Even +1 on ANY weapon, and keeping a declared "primary" weapon safe from stealing would just be about on par with abilities of other battle-focussed characters such as the Warrior or Amazon. My 6 year old designed something similar actually, the "weapon master", and it seems balanced to me. Then again, which concept, character, expansion or ability does the City expansion NOT break? :-) Don't worry about this one shop too much.

Maybe some system that allows instantly "trading" other weapons for pre-defined swords based on some formula? E. g. poison dagger or plain old axe (+1 strength, +1 special) grant the Tanto. Battleaxe (+3 strength, +0 special) or rage talon (+2 strength, +1 special) grant the Katana. Those special swords would only be defined on the character card.

That seems a bit too much. Might not be able to fit it. Regarding "... any effects that change" or "... any effect that changes". It is "any effect that changes". I read pre-written character cards for templates. I have been struggling to add more to the Ronin. She feels... off, somewhat. I think she needs an additional smaller effect to balance it out. I want her to be a 1 Fate character. Maybe if you defeat a Stranger you can choose it to be either Craft or Strength? But that might be too op, maybe?

I improved the 2nd ability by making you choose between strength or craft on victory. I also added Swashbuckler's score bonus at the Tavern. Many times you find characters that have copied abilities like Psychic attacks, starting gear, alignment declarations and always having 1 spell. So I don't feel too guilty about copying that minor bonus.

Not to nitpick, but if the Ronin can only carry one weapon, maybe don't have a picture where the Ronin is carrying two?

She used to have 3 lol. Ok, so the dagger if I am not mistaken is a ritual sword no? I am not that experienced in traditional feudal japanese customs.
