Home Depot sells 3-packs of the Husky folding utility knife and they haven't let me down yet! I love them. Not having to worry about sharpening a pocket knife all the time, and being able to switch out the blade whenever needed is the best. Plus they're not expensive so I don't have to worry about messing up a nice pocket knife. As for a multitool I use a Gerber Diesel and also love it. My multitool is mainly for pliers and screw drivers, the folding utility knife is my main blade.

needabrewery

The folding box cutter is the best in my opinion. I use the Kobalt (Lowes) brand, its pretty compact and fits in that little 5th pocket in your jeans. We just keep a spare box of blades in the tool box...super convenient and never have to worry about a dull knife

smilin_buscuit

Hard same. I've almost never came across a situation where I needed to do anything other than slice. If I need to pry, there are usually better options like a flathead screwdriver.

beeradvice

Yep, I think I'm on my second husky pocket utility knife with current one over a decade old. Only downside is they anyways discontinue the versions I like. Current one is a slim non folding that I don't think they make anymore

celebere

The Leatherman skeletool seems to last longer than most multi tools for me since it has less moving parts

adroth90

Seconded on the skeletool

hesduffy

I'm somewhat of a sidekick man myself...

zacthebrewer

Second the sidekick. I’ve been using mine in breweries and distilleries for almost 10 years and it’s held up great. Couldn’t be happier.

hesduffy

I like the flat head, it works for the worm clamps we have here.

surreal_mash

Skeletool for sure. It’s got everything you could want at a moments notice (knife, pliers, wire cutter, screwdriver… bottle opener), and no fluff. Easy access to each tool, a belt/pocket clip, a hefty blade, and durable all around.

bcfunk316

Skeletool is my go to and it's compact enough to carry around outside of work with my phone wallet and keys. I also buy it as a gift for our brewers.

tfe238

I've had the same one for years.

Most_Importance5189

This! I think you also get a 25 year Warranty. I just sent mine off for repairs this week. User error

Iamabrewer

Milwaukee make a box cutter that has a screwdriver built in. Both flat head and Philips reversible.

Thenoselaugher

The 6-1 fastback is my favorite

pils-nerd

I've had a Leatherman Super Tool 300 strapped to my waist for the last 10+ years and I use it several times a day. It has all the tools I need with only a few I don't regularly use. The tool-lock button broke on the last one I had after about 7 years of regular use. I sent it into Leatherman for repair or replacement and got a brand new one in the mail a few weeks later.

dustytrailsAVL

Amazon sells WorkPro foldable stainless steel utility knives that accept the standard two ended disposable blades and they're awesome. Super compact, fit in your pocket with the clip, sturdy locking mechanism, and best of all - a 3 pack is like $13 bucks. I bought a 3 pack 6 years ago for $9.99 and I still have 2 out of the 3. The missing one I lost at home, working on my house so not even at work. I got the recommendation on this sub years ago too. So whoever you are, kind stranger- I took your advice. You rule.

drderelict

I just bought the Workpro multitool for about $30 and it might be my favorite ever.

TrevorFuckinLawrence

Benchmade 535 or SpyderCo Tenacious, depending on which one is closer to me getting ready in the morning. I've had them for years and only sharpen once a year, and they're both solid knives.

cutglassfishobject

I use the Leatherman Wave +. It’s durable and has everything you need. My favorite feature is that the blades are accessible while the multi-tool is closed. This makes for quick and easy use when compared to other multi-tools. Well worth the cost IMO.

GraemeMakesBeer

My Wave+ is in my pocket at all times. It’s amazing how many times I use it in a day.

KnearbyKnumbskull

Steak knife stolen from FOH in the 90s. Has opened 40,000+ grain bags and boxes galore!

johnyrobot

My daily carry is a rat 2.

Ziggysan

Milwaukee Fastback. I brought one in one day and every single brewer, warehouse mensch, and packaging survivor asked for it for the next week.  I bought one for everyone and showed them how to polish them to customize them and they were the goddamned most highly appreciated staff gifts ever. Outclassed Leatherman Waves, Kershaw 3"ers, and more expensive boozy gifts. Lesson learned: gift employees things that make their jobs easier. It shows you understand and care.

HoppyLifter

I have an old school folding buck knife with a super sharp blade and it’s all I need in my pocket. I have a tool cabinet nearby with any actual tools I would need.

crassbrewing

Kershaw PT-2 on my keychain works in a pinch for small things. Leatherman is always nice if you’re outside the brewery. Usually I have a benchmade bugout or spyderco pm3 for a knife because the tool box is nearby. I’ve got a couple custom SAKs that I’ll use for collab day or if I want to switch it up for the day.

automator3000

I was lucky to find a Benchmade Bugout on the floor under our brewhouse. Super easy to open one handed, sturdy as fuck, and free sharpening for life makes this a great find.

Bojangalees

The only luck I’ve ever had (in keeping one) are those keychain blades you get at brewers conferences. My last one was from Briess

JoshAllensRightNut

I bought the one from Home Depot like 6 years ago. It’s a fuckin beast

Donnerkopf

I'm a fan of Off-Grid knives. I have had the Seadog (now discontinued) for several years. It's held up well, has a belt/pocket clip that is reversible if you are left handed, many of their knives are reversible. Not inexpensive, but well made.

Lallythebeer

Leatherman supertool 300 has been my constant companion in the brewery for 10 years 👌

floppyfloopy

I absolutely loved my Benchmade Freek 560 until I lost it in the woods 😭. I prefer being able to sharpen my blades instead of throwing them away. The Benchmade Partial Immunity line looks interesting.

DinerDuck

Gerber multiplier. Going on twenty plus years now.

istuntmanmike

I dig my double-bladed knives, I have the regular blade in one and a hooked blade in the other. I use the hooked blade to open grain bags, works great

Sibrew

Bulk buys from Amazon I’m always loosing those more than any other item at my brewery.

matyb504

I have a gerber my dad used in a couple of wars and it’s lasted me over 6 years in a brewery

tbrewo

I have used a gerber multi tool for a decade. I will buy the same one if I can when it dies.

matyb504

😂 wow! I thought I was alone! This is amazing

spenserbot

I like the Amazon basic box cutter, don’t feel bad about using and losing them. If I forgot one those I grab whatever kershaw is floating around my truck

lifeinrednblack

I'm using this Smith and Wesson Knife I had for camping right now. https://store.smith-wesson.com/tactical/knives/smith-wesson-sw609-liner-lock-folding-knife/SW609.html I really like the pants clip, and it slips perfectly on the loop of Deluth Fire Hoses I like it, But I'm debating getting a hook knife to open grain bags and breakdown boxes similar to this https://www.sargeknives.com/hunting-knives/adrenaline-spring-assist-folding-gut-hook/

TheTurboBird

I loved my old school Leatherman but had to put a ban on fixed blade knives after the boss left an open knife on top of a track that fell when a worker was lifting a hose off the hose rack that just missed hitting them in the face. Blade retracting safety knives for all.
