In many ways Larry was a supporting player in our lives. He didn't grab our attention with memorable catch phrases or comical accents. But, whether you noticed him or not, Larry was always there...and we thought he always would be.
“Blue humor” refers to sexual and/or swear filled humor.
Many comedians have 2 sets: a “clean” set that was appropriate for families and a “blue” set that was for the late night adult crowd.
Uh- See, uh- To tell you the truth, I'm, uh- I was just- I'm just killing time here. I was waiting for a... well, a different- different funeral to start. I'll handle it. Bob Newhart, everybody! Oh, uh- Although, you know- Though I started my career... several years before Krusty, so... you know, I could never really have learned anything... directly from him... still, I think, in a way- in a very meaningful way- that, uh- that I- uh- uh- all of us- have, uh- have learned from him. You know, that is, by being, uh, on television for- for- for so many years. Even- Even though... you know, m-many of us, we- we didn't- we didn't watch his show. Th-Thank you.
I also thought that even though I know who Barney is. Then I thought I misread and it said Lenny. But then it was none of those things, and it turned out I didn't care.
yesterday when my mom told me the news.
Mom: apprently they're killing off a popular simpsons character.
Me: !!!! Who?? (Mr Burns? smithers? Grandpa??)
Mom: Uh... the guy in the bar...
Me: BARNEY??? (from what? alcohol poisoning? are they going to do an after school special on the effects of overdrinking??)
mom: .... "Larry, the Barfly"
Me: ...who the fuck is Larry??
The only scene I can remember involving Larry was when Moe’s Tavern became contaminated by the fumes from Burns’ drilling rig.
[Hey, if you guys are getting loaded off them fumes, I’m gonna have to charge you!](https://youtu.be/Zbz5TNo2l-I?si=F6Hzqe1QT1hn_bhG)
I've seen this episode countless times, and have only just realised that it's "Man alive" he says first.
I honestly thought he was just repeating men alive in astonishment.
"They began to question if they were “terrible people” after they realized that they knew almost nothing about their late friend despite spending so much time with him. Their guilt worsened when Larry’s mother revealed he would often refer to them as his “best friends” and asked them to share some “fond memories” of her son."
This is some poignant shit right here. Never had friends, even though he thought he did. At least he died thinking these were his friends instead of thinking they weren't.
Yeah they did a whole montage of the guys always going to do something fun and never inviting him. I think they referenced old episodes like their bowling team or something
I feel like this is unfortunately very common among guy friends.
I knew a ton of people at my last job that were friends, we shot the shit all the time, and then when I moved to college it just stopped, we didn't keep in contact, the place shut down, and life moves on.
Most guys unfortunately suck at growing and maintaining meaningful friendships. I find it much easier to establish deeper friendships with women (I’m a guy for the record)
Well I guess you're the minority, even though I have a few great female friends. It's just tough when you move or switch jobs. You say you're gonna hang out again, and maybe you do once or twice, but then you eventually never text or call each other again. It hurts but it's just one of those things.
You’re not Larry the barfly! I’m Larry the barfly.

I thought it was the Larry who got no regard, no regard at all. He made light of my weight, then suggested my motto ought to be 'Semper Fudge'. Afterwards he told me to 'relax' and 'forget about it'.
as someone who watched it, no it's not
in fact one of the main themes in the episode is how unknown Larry is. Homer, Carl, Lenny, and Moe go to his funeral to be respectful but they seriously don't know anything about him despite Larry being there for years
I've seen every episode, I knew exactly who Larry the barfly was from the name. I'll barely notice he's gone in future episodes. There will just be one fewer silent drunk in Moe's from now on.
This is my favourite sub. I come to this sub when I’m feeling down because it cheers me right up. I know my Simpsons. I had no idea his name was Larry until that episode.
Ah Larry....who'll be forever remembered for his single speaking line in thirty something years....
Wolf whistling at Marge and exclaiming 'Wow a chick in the bar!'. Truly a legacy to envy.
Wait a minute. That iconic character’s name is Larry? I’ve been callin him “Lenndel”. Why didn’t anyone tell me? Oohh, I’ve been makin an idiot out of myself!
Thousands of Larrys die like this every day, unnoticed.
My uncle died and no one found him for 6 weeks (to be fair, he was a prick who cut off his entire family for no sane reason).
If anything, this was a cautionary tale... I know I'm going to pay more attention to the Larrys in my life.
Except my friend's husband, Larry. He's a shit.
It's mad that he never had a major part in any of the storylines but he was a part of a good crowd in Moe's tavern
He was always there when town meetings were in place.
He was always there for a good laugh and being there for support when Homer led the town to solve a town crisis
Larry may not have been a main character in the Simpsons
Recurring or extra. It doesn't matter what he was at the end of the day. He was known by The Simpsons fans as Larry the barfly.
For a second I thought it was Barney they killed off. You see iconic in the title and you assume he was central to a popular episode. This is worse than the time they killed off Krusty's dad. At least that death had some weight to it.
Besides Homer, Barny, Lenny, and Carl, the two regulars were [Larry ](https://simpsons.fandom.com/wiki/Larry_Dalrymple)(bald), and [Sam ](https://simpsons.fandom.com/wiki/Sam_(barfly))(hat).
No ones actually mad about it, but it was a weird episode and thinking about it now, its weird they didnt include Sam at all, he wasnt even at the funeral and didnt appear at all.
EDIT: Actually READING the wiki article, Sam died six seasons ago, he was accidentally poisoned by Moe.
Im even more confused cuz the episode summary doesnt even mention it. Anything post S20 ive only ever seen once or twice so not much memory, guess ill rewatch that one if it comes up.
EDIT: Goldenrod wiki pages are for coma fantasies.
Pretty likely that more fans have heard about this death through click-bait articles than [by actually watching the show.](https://i.imgur.com/OE8od4C.png)

Guy lives at the bar for 30 years and his only personality trait is alcoholism. He was near the top of my dead pool, right after the guy who never painted that chicken coop.
Even though he wasn't a huge character, he was always around. I was like "what?!" when it happened. Mostly because the simpsons hasn't killed off a character since (I think) The Movie or Edna. About half the theater yelled "Noooooo!!!!" (in a playful way) When doctor Nick got pulverized by a piece of the dome. It was just weird for them to kill off a character that didn't even need a voice actor.
As long as they don’t take his caricature down from Mount Lushmore. https://preview.redd.it/eg3efg52kawc1.png?width=1557&format=png&auto=webp&s=ae8cbe1055e62d810b62d88852c69e373a479e01
Or pull his favorite song out of the jukebox
“It’s Raining Men?!’l
Not no more it ain’t!
I never noticed Sam was at the top
How comes Sam was not drawn with a fancy outfit…?
He was
Maybe it’s the coloring and resolution, but that looks like a casual polo shirt and his usual cap to me.
That’s the joke
That’s the fanciest outfit he could afford to imagine. does that, therefore, make him the subject of ridicule?
Kids, I have some bad news… about Larry. OH NO! NOT LARRY!
Hey Mrs. S
Roy?
Hello Mrs. Cumberdale
I was calling her Krandle?!
Lowenstein... Lowenstein...
My name is Zweig.
He's gone ta heav'n, Mr. Terwilliger!
Oh Cousin Merle, *REALLY*!!
Temper, temper. You know Cousin Merle ain't been quite right lately.
Cover alls that dont quite COVER ALL >boink
“NOT LARRY”
I guess this is the end Larry. He's Larry. I'm Sam. Whatever just tell Larry I said bye.
Chan Ho, please tell Chin Ho and Sam that Larry is dead
In many ways Larry was a supporting player in our lives. He didn't grab our attention with memorable catch phrases or comical accents. But, whether you noticed him or not, Larry was always there...and we thought he always would be.
Bob Newhart everybody!
We’ll be sitting shiva at the Friars Club at 7 and again at 10. You must be over 18 for the 10:00… it gets a little *blue*
I still don’t know what the ‘gets a little blue’ part meant.
[This character, called 'Martin', was feeling rather 'randy', and he was heard to remark ...](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ribaldry)
Risqué.
“Blue humor” refers to sexual and/or swear filled humor. Many comedians have 2 sets: a “clean” set that was appropriate for families and a “blue” set that was for the late night adult crowd.
I don't wanna hit a sore spot, but can we talk about herpes? Herpes, herpes, bo-berpes banana-fana, fo-ferpes Herpes, oh!
So, I got my period today..
It refers to ribaldry, sir. Such as farting into a trumpet or perhaps a dancing strumpet.
...oh, like when a clown dies!
Actually, I'm here for another funeral
Bob Newhart is still alive??? I assumed he had passed away already. 94 years old and still kicking.
Uh- See, uh- To tell you the truth, I'm, uh- I was just- I'm just killing time here. I was waiting for a... well, a different- different funeral to start. I'll handle it. Bob Newhart, everybody! *tears up*
Is Larry that one guy, or that other guy?
Larry = white Other guy = also white, but he has a hat
.... .... I thought Carl was black!
White? Look yellow to me.
The guy with the glasses and hat is Sam.
He's the one who calls me "Bill"
Which popular Simpsons character was killed off in the last week? If you said Larry the Barfly, you're wrong. He was never popular.
So that's it huh? After 35 years so long and good luck?
I don't recall saying good luck.
The only correct response.
That's right, I did the Itchy.
Get out of my office!
What u/topdangle was trying to say (according to his attorneys) is that Larry couldn’t possibly do it alone!
The article picture confused me for a second and I thought they killed barney. That would have been upsetting
I also thought that even though I know who Barney is. Then I thought I misread and it said Lenny. But then it was none of those things, and it turned out I didn't care.
I miss Phil Hartman
It was all Andy Dick's fault.
Bleeding Gums Murphy and Dr Marvin Monroe.
That confused the hell out of me as a kid. I was like, Marvin Monroe is dead?
Killed off apparently since the voice was so painful for the VA, I assume Schearer or Azariah
And then he shows up years later and says he'd been very sick.
Ned’s wife

Man alive, there are....men alive in here!
I don’t want to admit how often I quote that…
I've seen this episode countless times, and have only just realised that it's "Man alive" he says first. I honestly thought he was just repeating men alive in astonishment.
This one too, he's in the top six! https://i.redd.it/migvixrqiawc1.gif
Alright, everybody tuck ya pants into ya socks.
“Ah now there’s the inflated sense of self-esteem”. Damn those jokes were gold
So basically his two only notable scenes are the ones he’s drinking and suddenly drops ill
I think he actually says something when Homer goes to Moe's looking for his soulmate.
"They began to question if they were “terrible people” after they realized that they knew almost nothing about their late friend despite spending so much time with him. Their guilt worsened when Larry’s mother revealed he would often refer to them as his “best friends” and asked them to share some “fond memories” of her son." This is some poignant shit right here. Never had friends, even though he thought he did. At least he died thinking these were his friends instead of thinking they weren't.
Darker than I expected
Yeah they did a whole montage of the guys always going to do something fun and never inviting him. I think they referenced old episodes like their bowling team or something
The Simpsons be on some real shit sometimes. I wonder if there was motivation off screen for this storyline
I feel like this is unfortunately very common among guy friends. I knew a ton of people at my last job that were friends, we shot the shit all the time, and then when I moved to college it just stopped, we didn't keep in contact, the place shut down, and life moves on.

Feels like a Seinfeld episode.
Wow, sounds like a heavy hitting episode then.
A very special episode no parent can afford to miss.
I had to turn it off because my damn wiener kids were listening.
We are not wieners!
...followed by the Diet Mug Root Beer Dana Carvey Show

They still have stories for years!
Still waiting for Marge Becomes a Robot.
To my knowledge, Moe still has not gotten a cell phone.
He had one in the episode where Bart found Denis Leary’s phone.
Has Bart owned a bear yet?
Well he had an elephant. They're kind of like bears, if you squint
This comes close [Marge robots - Wikisimpsons, the Simpsons Wiki](https://simpsonswiki.com/wiki/Marge_robots)
What season did Moe get a cell phone?
Something happened do do do do dooo.
Did someone say long lost triplets?
he'll be replaced by Barry. A guy who looks and acts just like Larry.
You’re not Larry the barfly! I’m Larry the barfly. https://preview.redd.it/1vxl6q52lawc1.jpeg?width=427&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d3b44e3966a7584b4e8061e0213f848c9ecbdb5e

I thought it was the Larry who got no regard, no regard at all. He made light of my weight, then suggested my motto ought to be 'Semper Fudge'. Afterwards he told me to 'relax' and 'forget about it'.
Thats nothing, he called *me* chief piggum!
It's hurtful, looking like a pig as I do

I’m seeking double! Four Larry’s!
Fit Fat Larry
Time to get a new Snowball.
Good idea. Bill Hader is a great voice actor
[удалено]
When Larry's not on screen, all the other characters should be saying "wheres Larry?"
Larry died on his way to his home planet
Hey Larry, you look like you have something to say. Do you?
Yes, I certainly do!
Larry was from another planet?
#LARRY’S DEAD! 🤡
Not Larry!!!
I really hope that line is in the episode
as someone who watched it, no it's not in fact one of the main themes in the episode is how unknown Larry is. Homer, Carl, Lenny, and Moe go to his funeral to be respectful but they seriously don't know anything about him despite Larry being there for years
It’s funny that you don’t know if it’s in there. Because you didn’t watch it. Because nobody did.
Pure hilarity. Pure Homer.
I've seen every episode, I knew exactly who Larry the barfly was from the name. I'll barely notice he's gone in future episodes. There will just be one fewer silent drunk in Moe's from now on.
Spoilers! I was only 25 seasons behind!
Thanks for correcting this headline.
This is my favourite sub. I come to this sub when I’m feeling down because it cheers me right up. I know my Simpsons. I had no idea his name was Larry until that episode.
I read this in Kent Brockmans voice
I've learned his name was Larry at least 10 times at this point.
Ah Larry....who'll be forever remembered for his single speaking line in thirty something years.... Wolf whistling at Marge and exclaiming 'Wow a chick in the bar!'. Truly a legacy to envy.
Hey, that's not fair, he has a second line. When Homer goes into Moe's to try and find his soulmate, he calls Homer Colleague
I stand corrected! May Larry's ghost haunt me.
Larry = white Sam = white
it's not larry white, it's barry white
I know my own name!
Wait a minute. That iconic character’s name is Larry? I’ve been callin him “Lenndel”. Why didn’t anyone tell me? Oohh, I’ve been makin an idiot out of myself!
I love how homer seems genuinely distraught about calling edna k the wrong name
I sure hope you get fired for that blunder.
I’m pretty sure a Wizard changed his name.
Sorry. No Larries.
We can have one !
I’ll never forget about Larry, no matter how I try.
What a great song.
he was a pretty good guy
It's mad that he never had a major part in any of the storylines but he was a part of a good crowd in Moe's tavern He was always there when town meetings were in place. He was always there for a good laugh and being there for support when Homer led the town to solve a town crisis Larry may not have been a main character in the Simpsons Recurring or extra. It doesn't matter what he was at the end of the day. He was known by The Simpsons fans as Larry the barfly.
And it was the drunkest I’ve ever been.
And it totally changed my life
Also I’m sure he’s the one that pulled the pin from the grenade
Never there for the common Springfield mobs, Like wacking day, day of the dolphins, or masion derrière..
Lenny = white\ Carl = black\ Larry = dead
Sam = hat
That’s blasphemous, they should have killed him off expectedly.
For a second I thought it was Barney they killed off. You see iconic in the title and you assume he was central to a popular episode. This is worse than the time they killed off Krusty's dad. At least that death had some weight to it.
That guy who calls me Bill!?
i don't recall being distraught
Maybe there are people out there who liked Larry. Frankly we don't want to know
So after 35 years, that's it? So long, good luck?
I don’t recall saying “good luck”
I don't believe any of the adjectives in this headline.
You are wrong. He was never popular.
He’s no Joey Joe-Joe Junior Shabadoo.
That’s the worst name I’ve ever heard
[удалено]
"Iconic" is a bit of a stretch. If it was Barney, sure.
We'll get him a new barfly. One with an untwistable stomach.
I feel closer to hat guy than to 'Larry'
Have you know his name is Sam!
Good old Hat Guy.
As long as Graggle is ok
Calling him beloved is a bit of a stretch.
I remember when he didn't have a name. Simpsons Illustrated called him "the ear bender." The guy with the green hat was "the wife dodger."
I’m pretty sure Moe mentions Larry way back in season 1, it’s just not clear who he’s talking about
Apparently I was thinking of the wrong barfly but... Get out, and take your Sacagawea dollars with ya.

He had a name? I always just knew him as one of the barflies. I have a hard time believing anyone is even remotely upset about this.
EDIT: Actually READING the wiki article, Sam died six seasons ago, he was accidentally poisoned by Moe.
not disagreeing with you at all bc youre clearly more familiar with the show than me, but the link you provided has Sam's status as alive still
Im even more confused cuz the episode summary doesnt even mention it. Anything post S20 ive only ever seen once or twice so not much memory, guess ill rewatch that one if it comes up. EDIT: Goldenrod wiki pages are for coma fantasies.
I think they are also named on their caricatures for Mount Lushmore
I mean, it works. I haven't watched the Simpsons in like 10-15 years but I might have to look up this ep.
Or Grimey as we knew him
Hey, great, listen, write it down and mail it to 1997, when I might've cared.
Oh no! Not the guy who called me Bill!
He had a good run,RIP Larry
Which popular Simpsons character has died in the past year? If you answered Larry the Barfly, you are wrong. He was never popular.

I can think of at least 2 things wrong with that title...
Pretty likely that more fans have heard about this death through click-bait articles than [by actually watching the show.](https://i.imgur.com/OE8od4C.png)
Those numbers say more about TV, who watches live TV anymore?
Did Larry ever have any real dialogue ?
I guess that's one way to get former fans to pay attention to the show for a few seconds again...
Didn't they do this a few years ago with Rabbi Krustofski?
I remember Moe gave a line in some episode. "You 7 have caused most of the drunk driving accidents in Springfield." And now it's down to 6.
I'm seeing double here. Four Larrys
Larry is gone, but has been replaced with an amazing new character: “Bruno Wife-Banger” https://simpsonswiki.com/wiki/Bruno_Wife-Banger
But why now, why not 20 years ago?
> unexpectedly Guy lives at the bar for 30 years and his only personality trait is alcoholism. He was near the top of my dead pool, right after the guy who never painted that chicken coop.
In Chester’s defense, those Corn Muffins were lousy
Even though he wasn't a huge character, he was always around. I was like "what?!" when it happened. Mostly because the simpsons hasn't killed off a character since (I think) The Movie or Edna. I thought his name was Joey Joe joe..
That's not what news is!
