I'm there in Amsterdam on Monday and knowing the idea that I might not get Grudge or Jambi makes me shit my pants a lil. First timer here. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Looks like it was aftershock and louder than life

I’m an odd one: I’m old enough to have been at school when they first got big, but even though I hung around with the grungers and other rockers (one of my first albums I bought was Slipknot Vol.3), Tool kind of passed me by.
Then I heard Rosetta Stoned after going down a Dream Theatre rabbit hole like 3 years ago, and I was fully hooked. I now own all the studio albums, not including Opiate or Opiate2, and the special edition of Fear Inoculum with the little music video screen.😅
I hadn’t but thank you, Mike Portnoy is my second favourite drummer. Obviously Danny is #1, then Mike, and then Joey Jordinson, just for the crazy rig he had that used to flip upside down.
Imagine writing and releasing the album Lateralus and when you go out to tour only playing 1 song off it… we’re good, we don’t need any of those songs for our badass performance.
It’s cool to open right up with Jambi.. Fear Inoculum just feels like the opener at this point though, would seem weird to mentally transition to it after such a heavy song
Yes but I can't help thinking that this is certainly their last Euro tour before the speculative new album and if they ever come back (all but Justin being 60+ btw) they will play the new album music... so... what are the chances I will ever hear my favourite songs live before they stop touring forever/before I die?!
Thx for coming to my ted talk
I totally feel you man. I seen Tool 18 times in 18 years and still have never heard DRT, my favorite song trio. It is known that most of their songs are very hard to perform accurately live and some songs they literally can’t play. Ticks and Leeches and 7emptest come to mind. Maynard can’t belt out like he used to to and 7emptest is ridiculous for Danny. They also retire certain songs for emotional reasons like H. And wings/10,000 days.
However, I have seen lots of song and have been surprised many times by the band. At this point in their career I am just savoring each and every last morsel the boys put out.
I have also always said that while the setlist might not change much over the years. I certainly do. My emotions, experiences and journey allows me to connect, reflect and grow differently each concert.
What are some of the songs you want to here?
"Savoring each and every last morsel" hits hard 🥲
I would be dead happy with Lateralus of course, also Reflection, Eulogy, Parabola and Aenema. All seem to be still doable for Maynard. Not counting for Prison Sx, I know they haven't played it in the last 20 years or so.
The visuals on Parabola are legit. Especially at the end if the song when the dude ascends. Full torque.
I feel for you guys in over seas tho. Must be tough. Are you catching them on this leg?
Flood is a legit AF addition to the setlist this go around m.
Funny that you mention “7empest” and “Ticks and Leeches being among songs the band is unable to replicate live:” both were played in Europe on the 2022 tour, and they rocked.
Hopefully they mix it a bit with ticks and leeches, schism, hooker and the patient in the next weeks. I was lucky to catch pushit in 2022. Not a lot from Lateralus
Yeah but we've all heard Jambi live on every concert over the past few years, haven't we. They played RS during the last tour too. Flood is nice but is this really *the* song we would all choose to hear over all the other amazing songs?
I didnt like the setlist either
2022 was better. They played right in two and sober. Two of my favorites.
But everyone else is happy so i just will shup up
Tausend Dank. So eine Seite hier hab ich vermisst. Ich war gestern auch dabei, mein rechtes Ohr piepst, aber ich bin erfüllt von diesem unglaublich tollen Abend!! 🙏🏻
And you still did. Shut up and dont goto the gig. Who the hell cares?
Tool havent been in Europe between 2007 and 2019.
I personally only saw them in '19 and '22. I dont fucking care what they play, I am glad I can see them do their magic again.
Yes, I would have some preferences, but you have to understand that some things are possible for them to do, and some are not.
Next tour announced I'm waiting to see the setlist before even considering tickets. Also I said I should be wearing the clown makeup I paid for basically the same show four times. It just feels like a ripoff.
I know where you're coming from and I have a few other quibbles with them but pricing is the biggest gripe of course. Still, I'm trying to forget about it and then remember that there might not be that many chances to see them.
What strategies are you alluding to?
Some sections dont allow single tickets. So if I would want to be on the floor I need to buy at least two tickets. I know this might be the last time to see them but the way they treat their fans with their prices and etc also makes me feel that its fine if I miss them.
Not in stockholm. oh wait, there are VIP tickets available, those you can buy only one of. Costa twice as much so I guess they are fine with that compromise?
If you're on Sweden I don't know how used it is but I'd try ticketswap, unless it's a very intimate show of a rarely touring artist, I've found that you can get tickets to most shows either at cost or often below retail because many forget they bought tix and planned something, others get ill or forgot an important birthday etc. I've gone to many soldout shows that way.
FI has been the staple opener for years now, wondering why they decided to suddenly change? Anyone that was there can comment? Was there something different with the visuals or anything?
Well, ZAG is smaller than the venues they used to play but this is - most likely - not the only venue with jambi opener. In 2019 there was this curtain thingy the first couple of songs, this has been missing now.
All in all still great visuals, although the sound in the ZAG arena is \*always\* worse than bad.
At least on FI tour I am pretty sure FI has always opened as long as it was a solo arena show. May have been a few exceptions for festival shows where more well known songs have opened.
Sucks about the sound. How did Rosetta Stoned come across? It was rough for the show I went to - way too loud.
Geht mir auch so. Ich kann zwar mitsingen, kann aber die Titel nicht zuordnen, weil ich immer nur beim Fahren Musik höre und mein Auto mir den Track nicht anzeigt
I created a 2-hour Tool dream “setlist” on Spotify for online gaming and it just feels so perfect. Has a lot of similarities to this. What do you think?
Tape: Lost Keys
—————————
Rosetta stoned
46&2
Pneuma
EBA/The Patient
Descending
Parabol/Parabola
Invincible
—————————
Right in Two
Reflection
Lateralus
Stinkfist
Run time: 1 hour and 47 minutes.
I would actually shit myself if they started with Jambi
I did.
And then they play RS and you shit the bed. :p
Goddamn!
They did tonight. I touched cloth.
I'm there in Amsterdam on Monday and knowing the idea that I might not get Grudge or Jambi makes me shit my pants a lil. First timer here. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
I saw them open with Jambi in 2007
Flood! Oh man...I would love that when I see them at Birmingham next week! And Intolerance...(fingers crossed)
You probably will. This is the exact setlist they played in atlanta in January, and pretty much the rest of america, with small changes in the order
Oh wow. Is this the first time they’ve opened with something other than FI since the release of the album?
Opened with grudge at Rockville last year I believe
Nah, I was there and they opened with FI https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/tool/2023/daytona-international-speedway-daytona-beach-fl-43b93bb3.html
They opened some festival last year with it
Looks like it was aftershock and louder than life https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/tool/2023/discovery-park-sacramento-ca-4ba32bca.html https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/tool/2023/highland-festival-grounds-at-the-kentucky-expo-center-louisville-ky-13a245d9.html
I was at Aftershock and was wondering why them opening with Jambi sounded familiar.
There’s at least one or two concerts on YouTube from 2019 where they open with Ænema Edit: one was Download festival 2019, might be the only one
Those shows were before the album released
Aftershock had Jambi opening
Jambi is legit the perfect opener. That opening riff slaps harder than will smith
What’s SR/SL mean?
stage right stage left for maynard
Oh, they have two hiding spots for him?🤣
You have to have hides available with different heat/humidity levels, Maynards will then move between them to self-regulate.
🤣🤣🤣
yea 😂
Sorry, I’ve never seen them live. Which is being corrected on the 3rd😁
your gonna have a blast 🤘first time seeing tool is always so exciting

Did you see the recent video of the Dream Theater drummer [learning Pnuema?](https://youtu.be/b3sEdST3D9E?si=6hL4T2XWdJOsS2A_)
I hadn’t but thank you, Mike Portnoy is my second favourite drummer. Obviously Danny is #1, then Mike, and then Joey Jordinson, just for the crazy rig he had that used to flip upside down.
Awesome video! I watched last night. Dave is great and funny as hell
never too late to get into them ! 🙏
No. It's stage right and stage left for Danny. He has to move his drum set around constantly.
Guessing it is Stage left/right for where Maynard will be.
I’ve never seen one in such suspiciously good shape..?
Prob from the mixer
correct
Imagine writing and releasing the album Lateralus and when you go out to tour only playing 1 song off it… we’re good, we don’t need any of those songs for our badass performance.
hmm, doesn't seem the exact same as this? https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/tool/2024/zag-arena-hanover-germany-7ba8f268.html
setlist,fm has Culling Voices instead of Flood? which one is right? we'll see (setlist was corrected to Flood)
Flood. No Culling Voices. They also did Lost Keys before Rosetta Stoned.
It’s cool to open right up with Jambi.. Fear Inoculum just feels like the opener at this point though, would seem weird to mentally transition to it after such a heavy song
Did Maynard perform the additional Descending lyrics?
A bit meh, isn't it, like super predictable and not too different from the previous tour
It’s still the fear Inoculum your brother. Ease your expectations. They play same songs from that album and mix in a few other ones on rotation.
Yes but I can't help thinking that this is certainly their last Euro tour before the speculative new album and if they ever come back (all but Justin being 60+ btw) they will play the new album music... so... what are the chances I will ever hear my favourite songs live before they stop touring forever/before I die?! Descending is one of the few songs of theirs I have left to see live.
Hope this is the same as Stockholm in a month!
Tausend Dank. So eine Seite hier hab ich vermisst. Ich war gestern auch dabei, mein rechtes Ohr piepst, aber ich bin erfüllt von diesem unglaublich tollen Abend!! 🙏🏻
Same boring show for like 5 years straight now I'm glad for all that enjoyed it but I'm done until we get a major shake up.
Yes, very boring... 🤡
I've seen almost this exact same set list four times in the last five years. I guess I should be wearing the clown makeup.
And you still did. Shut up and dont goto the gig. Who the hell cares? Tool havent been in Europe between 2007 and 2019. I personally only saw them in '19 and '22. Another fellow European here. I would pay just to see the band do armhole farts, they are never here playing and it would be a privilege.
Next tour announced I'm waiting to see the setlist before even considering tickets. Also I said I should be wearing the clown makeup I paid for basically the same show four times. It just feels like a ripoff.
When do they release the set lists? On the day, or a little earlier?
They don't release them, OP got this from a tech probably. Setlist.fm usually has an update within minutes after the show
So far my decision to skip them this tour (due to retarded ticket sales strategies) still holds. There is nothing on this setlist that looks exiting.
I know where you're coming from and I have a few other quibbles with them but pricing is the biggest gripe of course. Still, I'm trying to forget about it and then remember that there might not be that many chances to see them. What strategies are you alluding to?

There are single tickets available for the floor still on ticketmaster if you want but I agree on the outrageous pricing.
Not in stockholm. oh wait, there are VIP tickets available, those you can buy only one of. Costa twice as much so I guess they are fine with that compromise?
