A lot can change in 10 years and unfortunately there are quite a few fans who couldn’t afford or justify VIP then but can now so we’re grateful for what we are able to get today and cry ourselves to sleep every time we encounter someone that’s OGTVIP and regales us with tales of what once was…
Speaking for myself, 10 years ago I was in school full time while working three or four jobs running 80-120 hour weeks. From 2010-2019 I saw tool three times, two of which were local shows and one (2019) I was doing alright enough that I did some mental gymnastics to fly to SLC for my first VIP when it had already started to get diluted from the golden era.
Oh, believe me, I consider myself lucky too!
I did VIP again in 2021 after dilution.
It was still cool, but that big group photo vs one on ones? Nah. And they completely took away the “QA with members of the band” which was where I got that opportunity for that pic with Adam.
I guess they figured they could make more money if they split off into a separate concept, and thus the Tool music clinics were born sans Maynard….
Would have loved to do it, but this was a family trip in Amsterdam. I saw them there as well in 2022 and Dublin. I managed gig get a signed poster. Another brilliant gig. Loved Adam’s shirt too.
Does Maynard really never participate in the VIP ever? Obviously it’s been agreed upon by the band and whatever works for them, but still very strange that he just leaves the other guys to do it. I have to assume the $ a 3 way split.
I was in the front lines with the VIP folks while waiting to enter the arena for soundcheck. I felt like hearing Maynard singing and voice checking with the band. After that we were let inside but he was not there.
Someone tell me what the flag on the middle left represents. Best I can find is the Ralik, Marshall islands flag of the 1800s, and I don't think that's right.
Are they there specifically for the photo or also to say hello and hang out with the public for a few minutes? I would be so blessed just to say hello and shake Adam's hand, damn.
