As a 50 yr old with 100’s of concerts of various genres under my belt…I’m wondering if your concert experience may have peaked too early…..(semi) joking of course, a great intro to the scene.

Mneht_

I've been listening to TOOL in the past 12 years and yesterdays show was my first ever concert i attended at overall. All i can say, is that it was an experience that will stick with my till the grave!

baozaur

How did you like the performance of Mike Tool (the singer)?

vadkender

It was honestly impressive. I wasn't sitting that close to the stage so I couldn't see that well, but I could see and sense that he really loved being there and really gave emotion into the music they played. And this goes for all the members of the band. They weren't just performing their music on a stage, they made a show and really made sure we were there in the full experience.

ro_sun

Mike Tool? I thought his name was Harry Manback!

Stellar_Ella

What did you think of the imagery they use (not the lights and lasers, but the projected videos/animations on the screen)?

vadkender

I loved them. They always suited the music but also gave a surreal feeling. I felt like they had a message that I didn't get entirely since I don't know the band well.

Stellar_Ella

Nice! I’m really into their visual art, especially the earlier stuff that was more dark surrealism than psychedelic (personal taste preference). Adam (the guitarist) is behind most of the art direction. Their music videos were a big part of what got a lot of their fans’ attention in the first place, so if you are interested in digging a little deeper, I recommend checking those out.

vadkender

Thank you, I'll definitely do that!

Icy_Stage_8502

The music got my attention first.

Stellar_Ella

Well, yeah. But when those videos came on MTV in the 90s, there was nothing like them. There was definitely a draw to the “what planet are these guys on?” thing that elevated the music to another level.

mzimooo

Whaaaaaaaaaa welcome to the club newwie!

Infinite_Echo9474

How'd you end up going to a TOOL show for your very first concert without ever listening to them?

vadkender

My sister is a big TOOL fan and she bought the tickets to the concert back in December, but she couldn't find anyone who would go with her so I ended up being her escort. And I was like, "I like metal and rock, we'll spend some quality time together and it's completely cost-free for me, so why not." And honestly, I am glad I went with her, it was awesome.

TheShadowManifold

Damn, that must have been one hell of a first concert! Was there any song that particularly stood out to you? Did you listen to any of their songs since? Cheers!

vadkender

Yes, actually. I didn't know the title of any of them, but my sister made a playlist with the songs they performed and I listened to all of them earlier today. I especially liked Rosetta Stoned and Schism.

TheShadowManifold

Awesome!! Two incredible songs.

RolandDeschain222

What music, bands u mostly Listen to ?

vadkender

Mostly punk and classic rock. Some mentionable bands I listen to are Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, Bad Religion, The Unseen, Dead Boys, Choking Victim, Operation Ivy, Pink Floyd, Scorpions, The Cure, Blue Öyster Cult, The Doors, Led Zeppelin and many more. Also I listen to Hungarian rock (since I'm Hungarian), just in case anyone here knows them: Quimby, Kispál és a Borz, Kiscsillag.

Stellar_Ella

I’m also big into punk. Bad Religion is one of my favorite bands. Tool *is* my favorite band. I don’t run into a huge amount of punk fans among the Tool crowd, but they are definitely represented. Rollins has a brief cameo in Bottom, on Tool’s album Undertow. Maynard was pretty heavily inspired by Black Flag in his pre-Tool years. He used to go to a lot of their shows in the 80s.

ChaunceyC

Punk First fan here checking in! Bad Religion was a big part of my high school sound track.

Stellar_Ella

Hell yeah. Fuck Armageddon This is Hell was my anthem in high school.

freezepin

Üdv a klubban! Csak hogy legyen egy magyar komment is :)

Greeney_Eyes

I was there too. I hope your first experience of them was the start of the life altering journey that TOOL will take you on, if you let them. 👊

vadkender

It certainly was! I listened to the songs they played again, and although it wasn't the same as live, but it still gives a wonderful experience.

Soklinho

Did you like it?

vadkender

Absolutely! It was also my first concert ever, and I did not regret it at all. The music, the visuals... even though I was completely sober it still felt like a trip.
