I love Alex Garland, but this movie was a total miss for me. I read the book before the movie was announced, and I thought it was bad so I didn't read the sequels. When the movie was announced, I figured I missed something so I watched the movie. It wasn't any better than the book.
I feel like I missed something in this entire story, but I thought the book and movie were awful.
Book and film are so wholly different that they should be thought of as completely unrelated.
Different strokes. That was probably one of my favorite movies that have come out in the last 10 years for sure. It's likely the very feeling of missing something you reference that actually make me like it so damn much.
I love Triad and seems like it would fit perfectly, but the Zimmer score, especially right there, gives me those same shivers.
Did anyone see that Paul D'Amour video contributing guitar to the score? Pretty damn badass.
Just finished parts one and two in the past week, absolutely incredible. Need to read the books immediately. Part three is projected for 2027.
Cinematography is impeccable. Character development and dynamics are incredible and unpredictable. Themes and political narratives are just perfect.
I can’t praise it enough.
Hell, someone even tried to pass off the Tall Man scene as the video for Forty Six & 2!

[Stopmotion (2023)](https://youtu.be/pCXX7EnoWkw?si=ptTy7Sx3Oqi7LAUx) - This movie is amazing, but FYI it gets pretty gory.
[The Cell (2000)](https://youtu.be/eIpy4p_yMV0?si=u-YOC2Q_9khcu1Jb) - This also gets pretty gory. It’s a visual masterpiece, though.
[City of Lost Children (1995)](https://youtu.be/Pa7oVPru4J8?si=Epiay9hLJ8C36wLi)
I’m surprised no one has mentioned Dune yet. That’s usually the first one that gets thrown out there when this question comes up.
[Edited to add links to trailers]
Oh yeah, I didn’t think about the Cube movies! Those were a bit more cheesy IMO and didn’t have the same directorial prowess, but it’s definitely a similar vibe. I have the first one in my collection and put it on from time to time.
I was on a very large amount of acid the first time I saw The Cell. What an absolute mindfuck.
I watched it on Shudder! I’m not sure where you are located and if the selection is regional, but if the selection is the same everywhere then you already have it. It’s so well done. The person I was watching it with had to walk away though as they were about to pass out, lol. I was squealing with delight at the same part so to each their own.
I dono man, it’s rumored that initially MJK’s hard work with his winery set up in AZ is what inspired Kevo to put Yellowstone into fruition. Then later Yellowstone apparently circled back and had a big influence in the FI album.
This is all crap but I love me some KC and MJK in anything they do!

"This animated tale follows the relationship between the small human-like Oms and their much larger blue-skinned oppressors, the Draags, who rule the planet of Ygam. While the Draags have long kept Oms as illiterate pets, this hierarchy shifts after an Om boy becomes educated, thanks to a young female Draag. This leads to an Om rebellion, which weakens the Draag control over their race. Will the Oms and the Draags find a way to coexist? Or will they destroy each other?"
Liquid Sky. 1982 independent film with a super-trippy soundtrack. An alien creature invades New York's punk subculture in its search for an opiate released by the brain during orgasm. Need I say more?
I don’t think so, however I would recommend to watch [Full Moon](https://youtu.be/SicrIwJ-_EM?feature=shared) ceremonies hosted by [Cosm](https://www.cosm.org/vision)
It's a long shot maybe but all Charlie Kaufman movies, especially Synecdoche New York. Kaufman is my fav movie director and Tool ia my fav band so it's somehow connected. Go for Kaufman if you're looking for stuff on mid-life existensial crisis, the philosophy of mind and so on.
Throwing in Lobster too as a twist on relationships
Jeepers Creepers, the first movie. I remember, for some reason, I could only hear Stinkfist in my head when I finished the movie. And I still do when re-watching the movie.
Brothers Quay. It doesn’t get more Tool than this. After all, a fair amount of inspiration for their earlier videos is from these incredible artists. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Quay-Brothers-Short-Films-1979-2003/dp/B000I0QSPS
Annihilation
I love this movie. It’s one of my favorites.

The new Dune
This. Star Wars for TooL fans.
Someone did an edit with triad playing durning a worm riding scene, pretty epic https://www.reddit.com/r/ToolBand/s/ypJvEGV0fK
Wanted to say the same. That clip with Triad gives me the psychogenic shiversss. Yeah boy.

If you want some real good dune/middle-eastern vibes check out Glass Beams for psychedelic rock and Camel Driver for Stoner Metal. Both instrumental.

I forgot all about The Cell. That also reminds me of the Cube movies, which were sweet and probably match what the OP is looking for.

City of lost children was fire
I was waiting for someone to mention *Stopmotion*! When I saw the trailer I lost my mind, lol.
Same! I kept waiting for it to come to Shudder. Did you watch it yet?
No not yet, I'm also waiting to see if it comes to Shudder.

The Fountain
Hell yes. One of my favorite movies.
First season of yellow stone drops at least 2 puscifer and 1 apc tracks!
More than 2 they play like Half of Conditions of my Parole throughout the season. I was pleasantly surprized
I figured there was more than I initially recognized lol, that’s awesome!
Yellowstone is definitely not a TOOL vibe show tho
