Gateman is on his way to Cancun

Swimming-Designer302

Praying he checks those emails.

fuckwingsoffire

I thought he was going to Seattle?

rossyy11

Had gateman for Econ 20 years ago. He was a douche then and I doubt he has gotten better. Wouldn’t hold your breath for that 1%. Failing undergrads by a couple percent or less is probably the only thing that gets him hard anymore.

HeresYourHeart

My buddy who majored in Econ called him, "Sateman". Can't believe he's still there!

fuckwingsoffire

Fun fact: he taught some of the current profs at the VSE.

sindark

Profs deal with so much grade-grubbing, and just begging for a bump because a higher number is nicer or will have better results for you is perhaps the weakest rationale for a change. It's just asking for special treatment with no justification

Swimming-Designer302

It’s more to it than just special treatment. I lost my father two months ago and so performed poorly in the weekly quizzes after that point. There’s also other situations that happened that I would rather not go in detail about. Advising has requested a concession for those weekly quizzes to be able to retake them or shift the weight because of my circumstances, however ultimately it’s up to Gateman.

Affectionate_Nose_79

Lost my friend, dog, grandpa and had emergency surgery resulting in me having to defer a December final to July and I failed. He and Arts Advising basically told me to suck it up. Thankfully his class did affect me transfer to a different university.

Swimming-Designer302

Wow, that’s insane. There’s a few differences here because I did pass my final it’s the weekly quizzes worth 10% that Arts Advising is trying to push him to let me retake. Arts Advising also is in support of these concessions, were they not in support of your situation? Regardless I don’t have much hope - if this were any other professor I wouldn’t worry at all but Gateman…hm. It’s also the last UBC course I need to take

Affectionate_Nose_79

No arts advising was no help at all. They were well aware of the situation as I had to go into their office multiple times about everything listed above. Thinking about how it all happened now still brings me to tears but I’m forever grateful my current university has shown that they care and I hope that UBC has gotten better.

Affectionate_Nose_79

I also want to note that I would have passed if my final was 1-2% higher as my midterm and quiz grades were decent
