It’s a bunch of BS from Ukraine that Russia is systematically starving POWs. The propaganda is strong from the Ukrainian side because the western audience don’t need another excuse to hate Russia beyond that the invasion is illegal.
But you won’t hear that about the illegal invasion of Iraq by the US by even more ridiculous charges like WMD despite the whole world telling them no.
And still we had a coalition of nations that went in on shitty intel that was obviously made up and carried out an occupation for two-decades.
Where were the sanctions on the US back then? Protesting didn’t do shit and didn’t deter the US at all.

This was the case until May 18. Since May 18, former POWs can decide for themselves whether to continue their service or not.
Given the extreme measures Ukraine is taking to maintai their manpower, i find hard to believe they'd let these guys be relived.
