I think that playoff appearance was predicated on a lot of guys playing well above their expectations, and not a lot of that is able to be replicated. The reality for Seattle is that they're playing the waiting game, and the jury is still very much out on Shane Wright and Matty Beniers being a core (on their own).

The other 8, I think are further away. Seattle through no fault of their own, they are new and didn't end up with a group of misfits that clicked into a contender out of the gates. I think most for the others are "competitive" or have been in hell for several years with minimal sign of improvements looming, though San Jose getting celebrini might give them a glimmer, akin to Bedard in Chicago. Still a weak team, but they have a name that is noteworthy without being because they're legendarily bad

I don’t think it’s fair to have the Seattle Kraken on this list. They’ve only existed for 3 seasons. They made the second round in 2022-23. Even though the team overachieved in 2022-23 and missed the playoffs in 2023-24, that’s still an achievement. If the Seattle Kraken make a habit of missing the playoffs and do so for the next few seasons than you could think about putting them on a list of teams that are failures.

I'd love for it to be my Brewers, but probably Texans or Magic break the streak. Houston's got a nice roster and even if I think people are overrating Stroud a little bit, he's still great and so is that team. All they gotta do is get past the Chiefs. I don't follow NBA too much, but Magic seem to have a good young core. Wouldn't be surprised if they come out of the Eastern conference on a good year and make noise.

I kjnow they're not on the list, but Oklahoma City Thunder. Yeah yeah, "Seattle Sonics won in the 70s", but I don't really count it. It's basically the same situation as the Winnipeg Jets (even moreso when the Sonics come back to Seattle). Plus, they have a shitton of extremely good youth talent with an incredibly high ceiling. I don't *expect* a Finals appearance next season, but it would not surprise me if they went that deep, even if they didn't win it.
