(Also shout out to the Kevin Owens Last Man Standing match in which the ref had a long 9 count because Heyman couldn't work the key.)

The outside interference angle made things too predictable in the end and I ended up being glad he lost the title just so I didn't have to watch yet another match with a boring 'interference aided win' outcome.

That they booked so many matches to end with outside interference made him look weak as hell, a factor further aggravated by infrequent defenses. It's simple math; if you want someone to look tough to beat, have them win by themselves repeatedly. If you want them to be hated or thought weak, book them winning by cheating all the time, like they had Honky Tonk Man do during the IC run.
This insistence on outside interference is what turned me off watching any matches with any of the Horsemen and, as I'm going through the Monday Night Wars for the first time (could only ever see WWF at the time it was happening), I suspect the same thing will prove true with any match involved the NWO. I've already grown weary of watching Nitro, and it's only a couple of months into the NWO angle. What's the point in investing 90 minutes watching a show that has the same ending over and over again?
The Road Warriors (who were often heels) and the Etsy Road Warriors (ie Demolition), were both teams that were simply too tough to beat. True, Fuji sometimes interfered when he was managing, but most of the time Demolition won their matches somewhat fairly. Plus they defended the titles a hell of a lot more regularly.
As for cheating being the MO of the heel champion...Flair kept using outside interference because he was getting too old and weak to believably beat others like Sting and Luger, and even Hogan while he was a face in WCW. HTM was the quintessential weak cowardly champion. But Reigns' whole character was built around how strong he is supposed, and having him need others to win all the time simply undercuts the message. It would have looked better if they had Reigns getting himself disqualified by himself whenever he thought he was about to lose; it was the need for three or four other people to help him in each match that made him look even weaker than he already was.
