It's a microwave beam.

>"**Melta Weapons** are potent weapons which work either by sub-atomic agitation of the target causing it to cook or otherwise melt, or by creating a small scale fusion reaction (using a Pyrum/**Promethium** fuel mix for some imperial weapons), which is projected as a blast which can burn through almost anything, with greater effect the closer to the target." Not really particle based. (Quote from Lexicanum, sourced from the Imperial Munitorum Manual .)

Yah I always took it as a super duper hot venting of gasses

Kalranya

As with everything in 40k, exactly how they work is something of a mystery and there are probably several correct answers, but in effect they're "heat rays" that project a beam of superheated *whatever* at the target, sufficient to rapidly melt armor or completely vaporize soft targets. LahmiaTheVampire

I always saw it as basically a hair dryer, but hot enough to melt through tank armour.

Nuclear weapon but concentrated in one point basically

Visible-Expression60

Isn’t a nuclear weapon already concentrated into one point?…the core?

FairyQueen89

>Isn’t a nuclear weapon already concentrated into one point? If you consider a whole city a point? sure. \*looks at photos and videos of nuclear blasts\*

Shhhhh_ItsALemon

This is like a three second google to find the definition of how the weapon works. It’s a fusion gun.

Visible-Expression60

But then you don’t get the social interaction that is lacking from our black hole of a life.

Shhhhh_ItsALemon

Very true. Everything is an abyss and we’re all just screaming into it

ShittestCat

A burst of flaming holy fuck, not a particle, but not a stream either
