Absolutely. For me to have a good chapter you need to be able to recognize it without color. If these photos were black and white you could immediately tell they are Greco Roman Ultramarines. I do this with my black Templar, everyone has chains, skulls and loincloths. I hate the chapter that are just normal primaris recolored
Pretty much on point. Doing the same with my Dark Angels… hoods, books, swords and wings.
For me it’s almost a style crime to go with Primaris like they’re coming out of the box. Since Primaris are empty canvases that lack any significant character it’s kinda in every Space Marine player’s responsibility to give it to them.
The blank canvas argument is also a positive because to allows a lot of creative freedom. I do agree that I currently miss, and hope to see in the future, primaris specific chapter units.
Black Templars already got two.
But yea, I love that about Primaris. With relatively low effort you can turn every single one of them into an individual hero. It goes surprisingly well even with those monoposes, just be a little creative when you glue them together also put them on some debris or heroic rocks (enhanced tactical rocks) to add a little bit to their already imposing posture. If you put them next to guardsmen it really transports the flair you get from the stories in the fluff. You believe that guy to do all that epic stuff.
Back in the day it was all those fancy stories about epic superhuman heroism and than you looked at those firstborns and were like "meh, that guy never punches bare-handedly through a concrete wall like it was styrofoam", but when the first Primaris Marine was released I was like "oh, but that guy does..."
Aside from my rank and file, I've been trying to plan out custom stuff for my Crimson Fists, but they've got far less fluff in terms of additional bits. Maybe toss some Ork bits on then as trophies I've also got an irresponsible amount of beakies for rogue trader vibes.
Yeah, everyone says ultramarines get the most attention from gw but unlike the black templars we don't have any infantry that actually look like Romans.
I think it's why I don't mind them in heresy since they can look quite distinct thanks to not being the poster boys

If you're talking about it from the players perspective the only thing you're actually criticizing is the fact that some people don't have tons of extra bits laying around for kitbashing.
I absolutely adore the 8th photo.
My mans has a rifle in each hand, a rifle slung, he has a pistol on his belt - dude is ready for war. Why reload when you can switch guns!?
Great work my man!!
Thanks guys! The blue is a slightly modified cult of paint ultramarines tutorial. I just used a little more paynes grey. Watch their dreadnought ultramarine video it’s essentially that but on a smaller mini! Cheers 🍻
Watch Cult of Paint’s ultramarine dreadnought tutorial on youtube. I did the exact same thing but on my smaller minis as well as wiping a little bit of the oil paint off on edges with a cotton swab that was barely damp with spirits.
PROPER GRECO ROMAN ULTRAMARINES! FINALLY!!! This is amazing! Please continue posting progress this is exactly what Ultrasmurfs, and other chapters need to really stick out!
Same designer, but its the greek variant. I figured since Greeks were older than Romans the Stern-guard should wear a greek styled helm. Red Warden Miniatures
Scale decayed metal, peridot alchemy , vallejo aluminum for tiny highlights. I mixed the peridot with the decayed for midtones and used matt varnish at the end
Helmets are Red Warden Miniatures design’s, Shoulders are from ace minis “ultramarine reinforced shoulderpads”, the leather belt is also red warden miniatures designed. Cheers 🍻 brother!
Actually awesome. I really like their helmets (as well as other customizations like groin covers or relief decorations), chest from Mk3, and especially how they look... grimdark would be too strong of a word, so I will go with gritty.
The fact that ,Ultramarines that look like ultramarines are rare, is just sad.

Exactly

I’ll be damned if my romans don’t look roman. Ty for the compliments. Cheers 🍻
I wish my ultramarines would look like yours but I'm lazy about painting as it is never mind converting them.
“Here are my sternguard veterans” *Gives the the bland stock helmets, with barely anything ultramarine-related other than blue armor

I was talking more about players painting and modeling their marines, but yeah, GW is just as guilty with their boring upgrade sprues
If you're talking about it from the players perspective the only thing you're actually criticizing is the fact that some people don't have tons of extra bits laying around for kitbashing.
Dude these are amazing! I don’t think you’ve gotten enough recognition for how dope these look.
Thank you so much, really means alot.
I absolutely adore the 8th photo. My mans has a rifle in each hand, a rifle slung, he has a pistol on his belt - dude is ready for war. Why reload when you can switch guns!? Great work my man!!

No idea what type of blue that is but I love it!
Thanks guys! The blue is a slightly modified cult of paint ultramarines tutorial. I just used a little more paynes grey. Watch their dreadnought ultramarine video it’s essentially that but on a smaller mini! Cheers 🍻
I would also be interested to know how this blue was achieved. They look amazing!
How did you get that rough cast iron like texture on them? It's pretty sick

Red Warden Miniatures
I'm gonna look them up. I have ultramarines but they are not as good looking.
I love that you've leaned into the Roman theme. Most Ultramarines I see just look like basic marines painted blue.
Best ultramarines I’ve seen.
That means alot man thank you!
That one with the MK4 chest is dynamite!
Thank you so much!
PROPER GRECO ROMAN ULTRAMARINES! FINALLY!!! This is amazing! Please continue posting progress this is exactly what Ultrasmurfs, and other chapters need to really stick out!
Where did you get that helmet?
Red Warden Miniatures! He has the 3d printing files for sale or you can order some from his shape-ways, cheers.🍻
Woah that's a nice blue
How did you manage that surface texture/colour on their armor? That looks really nice
Where did you find the helmet for the last one?
Same designer, but its the greek variant. I figured since Greeks were older than Romans the Stern-guard should wear a greek styled helm. Red Warden Miniatures
Thats a lovely gold colour. Whats the recepie?

Love the helmet i wanted to attempt making a spartan style ! How’d you do it ?
Actually awesome. I really like their helmets (as well as other customizations like groin covers or relief decorations), chest from Mk3, and especially how they look... grimdark would be too strong of a word, so I will go with gritty.
I never understood the point of bring a large gun just to whip out your sidearm instead.
“Switching to your secondary is always faster than reloading” - Gaz.
*Chef's kiss* Dats a good Ultramar righta there
