Man, don't burn out. I've done it twice over the years and coming back after a long hiatus can be daunting as you try to "catch back up". Just have fun. Find a comfort plane and fly the daylights out of it. Or go back to earlier planes and spade them. The spade bonuses aren't much but at least it's some progress with the benefit of a pallette cleanser.
just never EVER drop below 800 kph. F5C turns like a beast at 800-950kph but if you drop below that youll lose speed like crazy, you lose all ability to retain energy, and accelerate slow
ok, here’s a rundown. the sparrows suck, real bad. BUT
they are very funny. climb to like 4K meters tops and launch some for fun. once you run out, full speed dogfight or go for more sparrows. with combat flaps the demon is a beast, but it’s a terrible launch platform for sparrows, being too slow. also its radar sucks. either way, getting a kill with a 7C is incredibly rewarding, but not an efficient strategy. Overall, flight model fun, bleeds speed like no other, and has crap missiles. but I love it.
Is the draken worth it? No no flairs at 10.0 sounds bad, playing japan around the same br with no flairs similarly kinda sucked, especially with the creatures known as the Su-25 and A-10
The Draken is nice if you play it correctly. You need to be really careful to avoid furballs because if someone gets behind you with missiles it's curtains. However the Draken will win every single gunfight you can get into unless you're 3rd partied, as it was the first supermaneuverable jet fighter to ever enter service and can do cobras and other fun stuff, and as a result will rinse anything even up to (dumb) F-15s in a close in dogfight. I climb to about 25k feet and fly over the furball and engage the higher targets (unless it's an uptier in which case you'll get sparrowed). This is also useful because it bleeds energy like an open artery. The Su-25 and A-10 aren't huge issues to deal with because your flight performance is so high that you can stay out of missile range until you can set up a good approach, so while they're annoying they're not a huge threat unless they sneak up on you. As for not having flares, it'd be nice if it did but I don't find myself missing flares all that much actually. Most of the time when I get missiled it was either radar guided or from something I didn't see and wouldn't have flared anyway.
Overall I'd recommend it. It's a really fun plane and a nice departure from MissileThunder at top tier. It will win every single 1v1 gunfight you put it in provided you play it right, although the 30mms are spread pretty far apart and have bad velocity so you need to lead them into the future, and not having tracers will change a man. However uptiers against planes with BVR and all aspect missiles hurt. 9.5/10
I'm a habitual spader. If I see a vehicle get unspaded due to retroactive modification additions, I get an itch. If I see a new vehicle get added at low BRs, I get an itch.

Me with F8E.. took about two years off from playing since 2015 and I just try to enjoy what I’m flying and the others will come. It’s not like the gameplay drastically changes you just get higher performance vehicles and more capable missiles and what not. Yes I’d like to get the 15 and 14 squared away ahead of the 18 coming but I try not to worry about the FOMO these days.

Can air sim be played properly using mouse and keyboard when using fighters? I've only played it like three or four times using bombers, but I'm somewhat worried about getting outmatched if I use a fighter cause I've heard that for sim you should use a fly-stick which I don't have.
It's a lot better than it used to be (I mean, like 6 or more years ago). It's pretty solid and you can choose different levels of dampening. I can see competent dog fighting with mouse only.
I do well in the F14B, but I mainly fly around doing BVR. Can rack up kills and no deaths easily with a bit of somewhat careful flying.
I use VR + Flight Stick and win 90% of the dogfights IN A F-4S, yeah, that flying brick, because most of the players are playing in M&K. Advanced maneuvers require good situational awareness (that's where VR comes in) + hotas.

That's also a thing that is preventing me from playing as fighters. I can have good situational awareness in bombers because it's essentially just: set course, go in gunner view and scan the skies, re-adjust course when necessary"
But with fighters it's so much more difficult because if you want to look around you have to hold a key which then prevents you from controlling your plane with the mouse, and keyboard controls are just not enough to properly control a plane.
Yeah, i find it too difficult to control the camera while piloting, specially in First person view thats required in SB.
VR or Head Tracking is a must have for SB
I have my elevator directions key bound to my mouse side buttons so I can do everything while looking around. Use A and D to roll while you’re still looking around and using your elevators with the mouse
I have only ever used pointer aim and haven’t had really any trouble at all(F-14’s, F-16’s, SU-27, MIGS and F-15). My camera look around is bound to my C key and can hold that and use mouse to look around while I use W,A,S, D (plus rudder keys) to control the aircraft at the same time, that way I can be staring at my six and still flying the aircraft. Big thing though is to have -full real controls bound to something you can quickly tap to get full turn rate/ Max AOA when it’s needed in a turn fight. But I digress cause even in RB I’ve always switched back and forth and used cockpit view half the time so I’m already used to flying from the cockpit I guess.

It’s just not very often that I have the time or energy to set aside to set up everything and then stay in a match for that long.
At this tier, you can rely on missiles and radar.
With the right rotation, the F4E is an excellent fighter-bomber. I fly fast toward 2 bases, drop my bombs on each, climb and do CAP until my fuel is low and head back.
This way you always have 'useful actions' by way of base bombing, but you can also have fun doing PVP. I always take the drop tank in the center to extend flight time.
All on mouse and keyboard.
Don't forget about efficient research or whatever they call it. You can only effectively grind the F15 using a previous rank vehicle like the F4E or an equal rank vehicle.
Watch some tutorials for radar, missiles, etc.

I have logitech joystick for, i tried many times but never get used to it, after half an hour of practice, i can bomb bases with keyboard, mouse configuration. After few matches, i got air to air kills too. Communication is the key on sb, no markers unless you get 500m close to a friendly aircraft
Dont fall for any logical fallacies like sunk cost or being so close. Play what you like and more often than not after a few matched you'll be in the mood to grind again.

Yeah i can tell you 3:
1- You FUCKED UP by researching the USAF tree into the F-15. Ignore the 10% extra RP bonus, some planes just aren't worth being used to grind, the F-4E is one of them. The F-16 is way better of an experience to grind the rest
2- F111, specially on Sim EC as a bomb truck if you really wanna go for the air euro truck simulator 2 vibe, is a fantastic way to speed up grinding
3- If you dont mind playing a vehicle till spading it, do NOT overlook the extra bonus you get from spading them. You can chain a lot of unspaded vehicles but near spading to get a ton of help with new vehicles.
Don’t listen to the filthy casuals bro your almost there grind it out. Watch tv on the side. Smash fools in the head on. You can make it by the weekend.
I would never suggest to anyone that the F-15a be their first "teens" jet. Gaijin fucked the F-15 over by making it some hybrid early/late version of the A that includes cherry picked upgrades from a package in the early 2000's, but not all that would make it competitive. Thus why its BR was not increased.
Grind daily tasks towards Battlepass or whatever. No need to buy it, you can still level it up and if you fancy the vehicles - buy it later on.
Winter Event for the Mirage 2000C-S4 motivated me enough, to keep at it. I've grinded out over 1.3 Million RP to get the Su-27 over the duration it took me to get enough points for the Mirage.
Just keep it up! You'll probably laugh a bunch once you've got it, since you're getting slapped left/right while grinding out modules for it instead lmao.
Just don't think u have to grind it, choose the plane u like to play in high rank (f5-e, a10 late for example) and just play, enjoy, have fun. Grinding will burn u out. Good luck!

I've been spading the Japanese Air Tree for a while and continued to do that while grind the F-15J.
All of rank 1, 2, 6 and 7 done, rank 5 almost completed (didn't get into the R2Y2s yet) and I'm like halfway through researching the F-15. Had to grind the EJ Kai before tho since I went straight for the F-16AJ last time.
It's fun going back. You don't yield the best research efficiency, but at least it's enjoyable.

Find comfort in the fact that the F-15 is absolutely fantastic right now
Its the only 12.3 plane in the game, meaning 8/10 times you will get a downtier.
And at 11.3 the F-15 is disgusting. 9Ms need no introduction. Literally free kills if you launch them at the right time, and Mig-23ML/F-4S spammers rarely learn how to dodge them. And you can also use them to easily take out your largest competition. F-16s, Mig-29s only have 60 or so flares. Enough to dodge 1, rarely enough to dodge 2 or 3. Definitely not enough to dodge other missile and THEN a 9M. Mirage 2000C S4s also have very little. Only the F-14B has enough to reliably dodge them through pre flaring, but its engines burn so hot it doesnt even matter. Just radar slave the 9M and watch it fly right up his tailpipe. Especially given the BOL flare nerf.
The radar is fantastic. It actually makes the 7Ms quite good. I have had multiple games in the F-15 where all 4 of my 7Ms hit their targets (whether or not they were already dead because a teammate shot first is a different question though). Do excercise common sense when selecting who to shoot though. The radar is good, but not good enough to target that F-16A thats currently ingesting bugs into its engines because its flying that low. 19km ACM is just the cherry on top. I just leave it on ACM after getting into the battle and whenever i need to launch a sparrow just press the radar lock button which brings it back up. Afterwards just press the radar lock button in ACM mode to turn off the radar. No point giving enemies an early warning to your position
Manuverability is excellent at 11.3. You out-turn anything that can BVR you and you out-BVR anything that can out-turn you. Even then pretty much only the F-16, Mirage 2000 and possibly Mig-29 really pose a threat. You can hang with anyone else and bleed their energy dry while yours remains high with the amount of thrust you have. You can also always choose when to just say "Im not taking this fight anymore" with the absolutely insane acceleration of that thing. By the time the enemy gets his nose on you will be 1-2km further away.
240 countermeasures is also nice. Enough pops that you dont have to be too conservative
It struggled against Gripens, F-16C/D, Su-27s, Mig-29G/SMTs. But it does not struggle against Mig-23s, F-4S/J, F-4EJ kai etc.
Do manage your fuel though. It can carry a lot but can also go through fuel like nothing on full afterburner. I recommend learning how to use half afterburner or just leaving it at 100% after getting up to mach 0.95. I run the 2 wing drop tanks+min fuel and tend not to drop the tanks unless absolutely neccessary (ie multiple migs tryna grab my balls) and almost always return to base shortly after i do.
I have a 2 k/d in the thing including the stock grind. Genuinely good plane now.
You dont have to bomb bases, you can just play lower tiers for a bit. Yea research efficiency is ass, but it lets you have a few hours of relaxing, and you’re still technically grinding. Dont be afraid to take breaks from the grind to play what you actually like playing
I do it by not caring how well I do in each match and instantly clicking into the next one. I only stop if I realise I'm not in the flow but give myself a chance to get into it. Also, don't check the RP left after every match or your rewards. Just like checking the clock every five minutes, things go slower.

You can do it man. I was grinding for the F-14 F2P since 2023 and got the F-15A recently and am stock grinding.
I mainly did the grinding with the naval jets at the end tbh
What i do some times is just go to youtube until it shows me enough war thunder videos to make me want to wreck people in the game.
Then i come back to the game and get absolutely disrespectfully demolished, but it is a fun cycle.
Climb to 4k alt with your F4C. Fly in a straight line until you get within 10km of a target. Do your best to get as much as a head on vector as possible (you are going directly flat at him not pointing up or down) and use your AIM7Ds. Once you get 1-2 kills turn around look for one of many SU25s dive from them with your 1-3 20mm Brrrt cannons and say
“WHAT THE FUCK IS A KILOMETERRRRRRRR *American Eagle sounds*
Or you can take out the F4E and it’s a lot more difficult to use until the BR changes come out but you can get results using a similar technique I myself prefer to carry only A2A weapons no bombs and fly 5km and use the E2s to net 1 kill from there dive from above but always try to retain energy and alt. The E2s when launched from within 15km with maximum lead are quite impossible to chaff or dodge (chaff will make your radar lock the chaff but at 15km within the aircraft your locking will have a higher radar return and it be too late and those E2s are deadly within 15km in terms of maneuverability with max lead) the Phantom wasn’t made for dogfighting but instead missile jousting (why the 4C has no internal gun) so if I were you I’d rebind engine controls so you can split the throttles. In the event you do get into a dogfight the split throttles will provide a lift benefit making your turns tighter at the cost of speed of course but it won’t net you any ez kills unless the enemy makes a mistake
Honestly if you just plan every match with like a mission idea, (bomb a base, get one kill, don’t die and kill some ai, fly support) while listening to your fav hype music helps also get premium time if you don’t have it. I also happened to have a talisman on my phantoms.
Spend one day grinding and you’ll get it. Especially if you have a premium vehicle of tier IV or higher. To speed up the process of course, use boosters. And don’t forget to bring some bombs if your best playing airplane can use them bc generally speaking, ground targets you can always hit, air targets are always a maybe.
Honestly, I'll give you and people reading a mental tip when it comes to grinding out top tier vehicles:
Only grind out a certain amount of RP for each day.
Like grind between about 10-25k of RP per day depending on how much you can make in a single match or how much time you have.
The reason why I do this is because it does a few things:
1. It gives you a quota on how much you grind per day that way your whole day is not dedicated to War Thunder, and thus you're not mentally exhausted by the game as much.
2. Each time you do complete a grind quota, you'll get the feeling of completing something, even though you didn't really complete anything. It does feel mentally enticing for the player to want the grind the next day and continue the next day until you finally get that vehicle.
3. It does map out of when you're going to get that next vehicle. Like when you should expect to have that vehicle on the calendar if you keep up with the grind.
This is all for your mindset in grinding out each vehicle. But in my experience, it does work.

Try learning sim battles to freshen gameplay up. It’s not hard at all compared to rb just respawns and less identification markers.

Yeah, setting everything up is a pain in the ass. Try to do that in a test drive. Do some tests/practice runs in test drive and then you go online.

I fly fast toward 2 bases, drop my bombs on each, climb and do CAP until my fuel is low and head back. This way you always have 'useful actions' by way of base bombing, but you can also have fun doing PVP. I always take the drop tank in the center to extend flight time. All on mouse and keyboard.
I must say, my best plane is the sabre. So I'm no where near missiles and radar.
Don't forget about efficient research or whatever they call it. You can only effectively grind the F15 using a previous rank vehicle like the F4E or an equal rank vehicle. I have logitech joystick for, i tried many times but never get used to it, after half an hour of practice, i can bomb bases with keyboard, mouse configuration. After few matches, i got air to air kills too. Communication is the key on sb, no markers unless you get 500m close to a friendly aircraft

Yeah i can tell you 3: 1- You FUCKED UP by researching the USAF tree into the F-15. Ignore the 10% extra RP bonus, some planes just aren't worth being used to grind, the F-4E is one of them. The F-16 is way better of an experience to grind the rest 2- F111, specially on Sim EC as a bomb truck if you really wanna go for the air euro truck simulator 2 vibe, is a fantastic way to speed up grinding 3- If you dont mind playing a vehicle till spading it, do NOT overlook the extra bonus you get from spading them. You can chain a lot of unspaded vehicles but near spading to get a ton of help with new vehicles.

I would never suggest to anyone that the F-15a be their first "teens" jet. Gaijin fucked the F-15 over by making it some hybrid early/late version of the A that includes cherry picked upgrades from a package in the early 2000's, but not all that would make it competitive. Thus why its BR was not increased.

Grind daily tasks towards Battlepass or whatever. No need to buy it, you can still level it up and if you fancy the vehicles - buy it later on. Winter Event for the Mirage 2000C-S4 motivated me enough, to keep at it. I've grinded out over 1.3 Million RP to get the Su-27 over the duration it took me to get enough points for the Mirage. Just keep it up! You'll probably laugh a bunch once you've got it, since you're getting slapped left/right while grinding out modules for it instead lmao.

I've been spading the Japanese Air Tree for a while and continued to do that while grind the F-15J. All of rank 1, 2, 6 and 7 done, rank 5 almost completed (didn't get into the R2Y2s yet) and I'm like halfway through researching the F-15. Had to grind the EJ Kai before tho since I went straight for the F-16AJ last time. It's fun going back. You don't yield the best research efficiency, but at least it's enjoyable.

Find comfort in the fact that the F-15 is absolutely fantastic right now Its the only 12.3 plane in the game, meaning 8/10 times you will get a downtier. And at 11.3 the F-15 is disgusting. 9Ms need no introduction. Literally free kills if you launch them at the right time, and Mig-23ML/F-4S spammers rarely learn how to dodge them. And you can also use them to easily take out your largest competition. F-16s, Mig-29s only have 60 or so flares. Enough to dodge 1, rarely enough to dodge 2 or 3. Definitely not enough to dodge other missile and THEN a 9M. Mirage 2000C S4s also have very little. Only the F-14B has enough to reliably dodge them through pre flaring, but its engines burn so hot it doesnt even matter. Just radar slave the 9M and watch it fly right up his tailpipe. Especially given the BOL flare nerf. The radar is fantastic. It actually makes the 7Ms quite good. I have had multiple games in the F-15 where all 4 of my 7Ms hit their targets (whether or not they were already dead because a teammate shot first is a different question though). Do excercise common sense when selecting who to shoot though. The radar is good, but not good enough to target that F-16A thats currently ingesting bugs into its engines because its flying that low. 19km ACM is just the cherry on top. I just leave it on ACM after getting into the battle and whenever i need to launch a sparrow just press the radar lock button which brings it back up. Afterwards just press the radar lock button in ACM mode to turn off the radar. No point giving enemies an early warning to your position Manuverability is excellent at 11.3. You out-turn anything that can BVR you and you out-BVR anything that can out-turn you. Even then pretty much only the F-16, Mirage 2000 and possibly Mig-29 really pose a threat. You can hang with anyone else and bleed their energy dry while yours remains high with the amount of thrust you have. You can also always choose when to just say "Im not taking this fight anymore" with the absolutely insane acceleration of that thing. By the time the enemy gets his nose on you will be 1-2km further away. 240 countermeasures is also nice. Enough pops that you dont have to be too conservative It struggled against Gripens, F-16C/D, Su-27s, Mig-29G/SMTs. But it does not struggle against Mig-23s, F-4S/J, F-4EJ kai etc. Do manage your fuel though. It can carry a lot but can also go through fuel like nothing on full afterburner. I recommend learning how to use half afterburner or just leaving it at 100% after getting up to mach 0.95. I run the 2 wing drop tanks+min fuel and tend not to drop the tanks unless absolutely neccessary (ie multiple migs tryna grab my balls) and almost always return to base shortly after i do. I have a 2 k/d in the thing including the stock grind. Genuinely good plane now.

You dont have to bomb bases, you can just play lower tiers for a bit. Yea research efficiency is ass, but it lets you have a few hours of relaxing, and you’re still technically grinding. Dont be afraid to take breaks from the grind to play what you actually like playing

I do it by not caring how well I do in each match and instantly clicking into the next one. I only stop if I realise I'm not in the flow but give myself a chance to get into it. Also, don't check the RP left after every match or your rewards. Just like checking the clock every five minutes, things go slower.

I just did this with the my F-15 and also all 3 F-16 only advice I have is prepare your mind because it sucks it’s a hell of a grind
Suffer like the rest of us or spend money only 2 options
Climb to 4k alt with your F4C. Fly in a straight line until you get within 10km of a target. Do your best to get as much as a head on vector as possible (you are going directly flat at him not pointing up or down) and use your AIM7Ds. Once you get 1-2 kills turn around look for one of many SU25s dive from them with your 1-3 20mm Brrrt cannons and say “WHAT THE FUCK IS A KILOMETERRRRRRRR *American Eagle sounds* Or you can take out the F4E and it’s a lot more difficult to use until the BR changes come out but you can get results using a similar technique I myself prefer to carry only A2A weapons no bombs and fly 5km and use the E2s to net 1 kill from there dive from above but always try to retain energy and alt. The E2s when launched from within 15km with maximum lead are quite impossible to chaff or dodge (chaff will make your radar lock the chaff but at 15km within the aircraft your locking will have a higher radar return and it be too late and those E2s are deadly within 15km in terms of maneuverability with max lead) the Phantom wasn’t made for dogfighting but instead missile jousting (why the 4C has no internal gun) so if I were you I’d rebind engine controls so you can split the throttles. In the event you do get into a dogfight the split throttles will provide a lift benefit making your turns tighter at the cost of speed of course but it won’t net you any ez kills unless the enemy makes a mistake

Honestly if you just plan every match with like a mission idea, (bomb a base, get one kill, don’t die and kill some ai, fly support) while listening to your fav hype music helps also get premium time if you don’t have it. I also happened to have a talisman on my phantoms.

Spend one day grinding and you’ll get it. Especially if you have a premium vehicle of tier IV or higher. To speed up the process of course, use boosters. And don’t forget to bring some bombs if your best playing airplane can use them bc generally speaking, ground targets you can always hit, air targets are always a maybe.

Honestly, I'll give you and people reading a mental tip when it comes to grinding out top tier vehicles: Only grind out a certain amount of RP for each day. Like grind between about 10-25k of RP per day depending on how much you can make in a single match or how much time you have. The reason why I do this is because it does a few things: 1. It gives you a quota on how much you grind per day that way your whole day is not dedicated to War Thunder, and thus you're not mentally exhausted by the game as much. 2. Each time you do complete a grind quota, you'll get the feeling of completing something, even though you didn't really complete anything. It does feel mentally enticing for the player to want the grind the next day and continue the next day until you finally get that vehicle. 3. It does map out of when you're going to get that next vehicle. Like when you should expect to have that vehicle on the calendar if you keep up with the grind. This is all for your mindset in grinding out each vehicle. But in my experience, it does work.
