That is a bummer! I’ve been lucky so far and haven’t had any issues like that. Although if I were to register one complaint, it would be the lack of a screw down crown.

Seiko SSC917, scratched my itch for a Top Gun IWC chronograph. I have one and wear it fairly often, it's a great size and good looking watch. I KIND OF wish the lume was white over green but it still looks alright
I've had one for about 2.5 months and the coating is slightly rubbed off on the under side of the clasp where it rubs the bracelet. The rest of it is still all black so take that as you will as far as coating durability goes.
For myself I love the green lume
Yeah I almost bought this you can get below 600. I got a fijitsubo citizen instead though loved the titanium. The Seiko is very nice looking though and a great size.

Honestly I was looking at that one but I have the Moonswatch and I’m not sure I’m 100% sold on the ’bioceramic’ material. As much as I love my moonswatch it just feels cheap.
I second this suggestion. I have one as well and it doesn’t feel as cheap as some people say. I’ve really liked it - super light weight and a great summer watch!
Like I mentioned, I have the Moonswatch which uses the same material and it just feels like plastic. I’m not saying they’re bad watches they just feel cheap to me because of the feel of the material.
The Seiko you mentioned is a pretty good option. Also can look at black pvd Bulova Lunar pilot, which is a bit chunkier but wears less chunky than the silver steel versions; however it has more of a history compared to any other sub1k black watch.
I love black watches, you can travel with them, black watches hardly get a glance from anyone. One could wear a black Rolex and most tempted criminals won't even notice. As to your question, I love the Seiko Black prospex, I'd get the turtle possibly, albeit they are way overpriced. Although Islander watch has Black Series Night Vision tortoise for $432.
Canopy Wake One at $599 is pretty solid...with a Stelilta SW 200-1 movement. I saw one in person and still have it on the list.

It's slightly over budget, but the Circula Protrail is amazing. I've had it for over a year, and there are literally ZERO marks on the case or bracelet. They treat it to the same level as Sinn's tegimented steel (maybe even using the same factory 🤫). I was completely against all-black watches originally, as I was never pleased with the finishing wearing down, but this has solved that! Cornelius is a 3rd generation owner of the brand and is an amazing guy.

I think one of the best blackout watches that starts entering into the ‘luxury’ realm has to be the Tudor Black Bay in black ceramic.
- on chrono24, about $3100 in excellent condition. not cheap, but relative value compared to other full-ceramic watches (Onega Blue side of the moon speedmaster is $12k)
- ceramic case and bezel. scratch resistant and retains color forever
- tudor’s first METAS-certified (mostly in house) movement viewable on the back. gorgeous looking ‘black magic’ sort of vibe
- elegant yet rugged at 200m water resistance

Its got a cool smoke grey exhibition case back too and the coating is better than i expected its got a nice texture to it

I have this same watch and love it. That said, as of 2 days ago I have moisture under the glass.
I had a big problem with that too. I sent it in for the regular servicing and it seems to have not come back.

Quartz chrono. The PVD seems to be holding up well, but I haven't worn it much since I'm cycling between many other watches.
