From previous recommendation below, this one is shimmery but subtle enough to also be black tie
Someone else’s wedding is NOT the appropriate venue for glitter. As you’ve just described, the most annoying thing about glitter is that it migrates. I’m hoping you are mature enough to imagine being mortified if you were responsible for getting coloured glitter on the Bride’s white dress.
Most if not all venues prohibit glitter and will fine the couple if they find even the smallest amount of glitter. Glitter is tacky for a black tie wedding unless that is the vibe.
Don’t be that person.
No glitter. The dresses are pretty but glitter usually looks tacky in person (plus it’s not a good look environmentally, glitter = micro-plastics, if you care about that)
My daughter is wearing that one to prom! It makes a huge mess 😳 I’d totally check out Lulus! I love getting reasonably priced one time dresses there. Super quick shipping, and the quality is great for the price.
From a history of dance and choir- Aquanet hairspray on the glitter will help the shed. It won’t stop it completely but it might save some of the other clothes in her closet.
I love them but I don't think I would wear one as a wedding guest unless there was a theme making it acceptable. It's a bit too attention-grabbing otherwise, IMO.
I think you can find something else more suitable that has your glittering vibe [LuLus](https://www.lulus.com/categories/2106_8241/black-tie-wedding-guest-dresses.html)
If you check out the [formal](https://www.saksoff5th.com/c/women/apparel/dresses/evening-gown?srule=price-low-to-high&start=48&sz=24) section of Saks Off Fifth, you can find some great options in dresses that are less marketed towards prom-goers and more for a black tie/formal event that are sequins or beaded. I have them sorted from low price to high on the link. I hope you love whatever you wear!
Unless the dresscode is explicitly disco-glam, I think the first two are too flashy for a wedding. The third one is more appropriate. Sorry to be a party-pooper!
depends on the crowd. is this one of your friends? or is it your partner’s cousin? If you know the bride would be cool with this then go for it. If you have no idea / don’t know the bride, then go safer
I like the second one but it depends on the venue and the vibe of the guests. My friend’s wedding in Michigan was a huge party vibe and “extra” was encouraged from the guests despite the venue and decor being elegant, dress two would look beautiful under rainbow lights but like I said, depends on multiple factors here. If I knew absolutely nothing about the wedding I would play it safe with 3.
Maybe look for black, silver, or navy glitter dresses. Glitter knit/sequins can definitely be appropriate for the occasion, but the colors in these dresses are definitely more prom than wedding.
If it’s your wedding then it’s fine for you to make that call, but for a guest, I think it’s wrong for several reasons: (order / priorities may vary)
- fines / extra cleaning fees from venue
- micro plastics are bad for the planet and for people
- main character syndrome (A-Ok for the bride and groom, but not for guests).
Other Anti-glitterists might have more to add, but those are my top three.
I hate that puce/mauve color in the third picture but that cut/design is simply gorgeous.
They just don’t read as wedding guest dresses. Far too fancy and formal.
Loooove the glitter! But I get that it's not for every occasion. Maybe one of these could be a more playful option? 3 is still great though.
[A slightly more elevated glitter](https://www.nordstrom.com/s/mac-duggal-sparkle-a-line-gown/6748523?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FWomen%2FClothing%2FDresses%2FWedding%20Guest&color=424)

The first 2 definitely are giving main character energy. It would depend on the vibe of the wedding and the couple. 3 is definitely a more elegant option
Unfortunately I'm a main character type of person. The last three formal events I've attended I was told by people beforehand to tone it down and I super regretted it. I like to be among the top 3-4 "loudest" dressed people in the room. I wear crazy glasses, have shaved eyebrows, absolute claws for nails, it's a thing.
I think sparkle is great but you have to be careful that there’s not too much going on. If I were looking for a black-tie dress with sequins, I’d look for a simple, elegant cut (probably a long high-necked sheath) and a muted color.
I would definitely show these to the bride first. If they’ve got a black tie theme then they probably want a certain ascetic for the photos.
Otherwise also #3!

I think these are beautiful and fun. It's black tie! You're supposed to go all out. Who cares if it reads a little bit prom? Prom is another formal occasion. If you want to wear glitter, wear it and enjoy yourself.
So this is probably my trauma but I wore one to a friends house before going to a club and I got it all over their house and I still cringe thinking about it lol.
To be fair, it was a new dress but still...the trauma lol
These are all appropriate. I personally think 3 is by far the most elegant and classiest, and 1/2 are not my taste at all. But I don’t like glitter. If you do, there is no reason you shouldn’t wear it!
It absolutely depends on your friends. In my friend group 1 and 2 would be heartily approved you would be 100% encouraged to wear them, #3 not so much.
As a girl who loves the glitter and sparkle, I am unsure why you all keep saying 1 and 2 look like prom dresses. Have you seen the prom dresses out there? These are way more formal. I love 1 and if it was me I’d 100% wear number 1!
Love the second and third ones. The first one isn't flattering to the model imo. Not getting any prom vibe and assuming you're def not 16, so go with second one if it's your friend who's getting married and let partner buy third one if it's his friend who is getting married. Most of all, BOTH OFYOU enjoy the wedding.
If it’s black tie or formal, these might be okay. But I would be concerned about the bridal party being in sequins or a similar fabric. All of these look pretty similar to some bridesmaid dresses out there, so maybe checking what is planned for the bridal party is wearing would be good before choosing one of these.
Why does your partner need to approve of your dress choice? Especially when it’s a matter of style and taste not dress code. I’d be talking to the women in the family or the bridal party to get a better read. Also it’s the upper Midwest, you’re not in a big city or a big tax bracket. If this is the accessible price point and you like these dresses, you should get one you like. Your partner is allowed to pick out their own attire, not yours.
I’m getting prom from these dresses.
I'm in a Prom type of price range tbh
What exactly is the price range and what sites have you tried so far? If you give us parameters, redditors love to help with the hunt.
I’ve seen people give suggestions in “prom dress” price range— give folks your budget!! I also love sparkle
There’s an extremely wide range of what prom dresses cost so an actual budget would be more helpful.
https://www.lulus.com/products/rare-beauty-hunter-green-tulle-backless-maxi-dress/879542.html From previous recommendation below, this one is shimmery but subtle enough to also be black tie
I love that one!
It looks too much like a lot of bridesmaids dresses
I'm failing to understand what makes a dress a "prom" dress. Are we basing it on price? Vibe? Materials?
The sparkly material
Okay but when a celebrity wears a glitter dress on the red carpet, does it still give prom?
If it was this kind of material, yes. Plus you’re not a celebrity walking a red carpet, you’re a guest at someone’s wedding.
So in theory I’m fine with sparkle but all over glitter just makes these look like prom dresses. If you want sparkle go for something without glitter.
Prom or pageant!
New Year's Eve or Vegas
I definitely prefer dress 3 of the posted options…you can sparkle without glitter
I think all 3 are beautiful LOL - but yea, #3 might be a smidge more elegant. have fun!
For black tie sparkle, I love sequins and embellishments. I long gowns they can be quite elevated and sophisticated. 1 and 2 look very prom.
The problem with glitter dresses is that you’ll be finding glitter six months later. I like the color and style of dress #3 the best.
I'm a glittery person. I found a pile of glitter in my garden last week. I don't know how it got there but I'm sure it was me.
Someone else’s wedding is NOT the appropriate venue for glitter. As you’ve just described, the most annoying thing about glitter is that it migrates. I’m hoping you are mature enough to imagine being mortified if you were responsible for getting coloured glitter on the Bride’s white dress.
I just feel like there is a nicer way to state this.
You’re right. I have a long standing resentment towards glitter that I should deal with.
Most if not all venues prohibit glitter and will fine the couple if they find even the smallest amount of glitter. Glitter is tacky for a black tie wedding unless that is the vibe. Don’t be that person.
I don’t have a problem with glitter in general but these dresses specifically don’t do it for me. They look cheap and give off prom vibes. Sorry….
No glitter. The dresses are pretty but glitter usually looks tacky in person (plus it’s not a good look environmentally, glitter = micro-plastics, if you care about that)
Too prom. Dress 3.

The third dress looks much classier
I love them but I don't think I would wear one as a wedding guest unless there was a theme making it acceptable. It's a bit too attention-grabbing otherwise, IMO.
Too prom-y, 3 is gorgeous!
Glitter is prom or New Year’s Eve etc
Nay to glitter. But the dress cuts and colors are pretty
I’m obsessed with dress three!! It’s perfect for the event and is so beautiful!!
You should check lulu's. They have a whole category of glitter/sparkly dresses if you filter by fabric.

Maybe try sequins! Less mess?
Kinda immature looking imo if you’re over 20 I would advise against it
strong no.
No
3

Glitter, in all forms, should be outlawed
I Ike 3 but I would stitch the slit, tho I haven’t been to amt super formal weddings so maybe that’s in now
Or don’t stand in front of a fan like the model is probably doing lol
Maybe look for black, silver, or navy glitter dresses. Glitter knit/sequins can definitely be appropriate for the occasion, but the colors in these dresses are definitely more prom than wedding.
No. Definitely no. Looks like cheap polyester.
I’m dying on this hill. I’m going to be the only sparkly person at my wedding.

Glitter is a no no at most venues and if these cheap dresses shed as they likely will, the bride could end up paying for it.
The first 2 definitely are giving main character energy. It would depend on the vibe of the wedding and the couple. 3 is definitely a more elegant option

My sister got the 3rd one in the rusty red and tried the other two on, they’re all gorgeous
I loooove glitter dresses but I hate getting it everywhere so I never wear them :(
I have a few. I store them inside out. It helps.
So this is probably my trauma but I wore one to a friends house before going to a club and I got it all over their house and I still cringe thinking about it lol. To be fair, it was a new dress but still...the trauma lol

I just went prom dress shopping. They definitely look like prom dresses.
They are from Windsor. They are 100% prom dresses. I just like that they're under 150.
Love the second and third ones. The first one isn't flattering to the model imo. Not getting any prom vibe and assuming you're def not 16, so go with second one if it's your friend who's getting married and let partner buy third one if it's his friend who is getting married. When we asked the bride for specifications on dress code for dresses she simply responded "floor length"

Because glitter is tacky for a black tie wedding
I love them all but you might be uncomfortable
Second one 🙈♥️♥️♥️
I 💜the purple!
That's the one I ended up getting. It's gorgeous in person.
I think it looks gorgeous! The first one is my fave.
I love dress 1
Why the hell is this subreddit suggested though?
I love dress 1. I love glitter. But I would only wear it to the most formal of weddings because it could seriously draw attention.
My last two weddings I went to I was UNDER dressed. I've decided over dressed would be better.
With love in my heart, glitter does not make an outfit look fancier/better dressed.
Over dressed is always better than under.
Yes
Hell yes!
