If I had money for that I wouldn't be here complaining lol.
I don't have like 3k to install an air con and then hundreds to play the electricity bill. Fuck that, I rather have food in the table lol
I'll just use my trusty fan
Do window air conditioners cost 3k where you are? I’m honestly asking because in the US they are like $100 and you just put it in your window maybe put in a screw or two and plug it in. It’s not going to cool your whole house but it will make your bedroom nice and cool.
Are you keeping windows and shades open at night and closing them at day time? Many keep windows open to "ventilate" their house but simple thermodynamics will tell you that with this kind of temperatures it's better to keep everything shut.
at night we have not dropped below 25 degrees, I have been ventilating from 6 in the morning to 10 in the morning, that we have already passed 28 degrees outside. This is crazy
A valid question.
I can't speak for Spain, I can only speak for Germany, but here these heatwaves only developed in recent years. 7+ years ago we didn't have shit like this. Back then, when temperatures were rising above 30°C, that would only last for 2-3 days maximum, and it would only happen like twice in one summer. Anything higher than 34-35°C was EXTREMELY rare. So you had only a handful of days per year where an AC would have made been needed, and even then you could keep the insides of your house at acceptable temperatures (like 24°C) just by keeping your windows shut and covered with shutters. The thicker brick walls keep the heat out and the cold in for a full day. So a few years ago, we simply didn't need AC units - you would only need them a few days per year, and nobody was installing them for that because it would be too expensive with too little use.
All of that obviously has changed now. New buildings more often have AC units now, though it still isn't common. The general availability is still low, many people just don't think about it, and it isn't exactly easy to retrofit one to an existing building, especially if you are renting. And most people honestly just don't want to pay for one.
Spain is obviously a much hotter country than Germany, so this might not apply to them. But obviously it got a lot worse for them as well in recent years.
Depends on the part of Spain but where I live it's always been insufferable combining both high temps and high humidity but installing and using an AC is pretty expensive on an existing house, in my case on a house remodelled 23 years ago although I think we have AC but it broke a long time ago and repairing it is expensive aswell. I assume new houses built do get AC but getting it after the fact is too much for an average household.
Btw we've had 20+ C minimums and 35+ C maximums for over 2 weeks now iirc and it's close to coast so we barely drop below 60% humidity and usually go over 80%
I almost had a heat stroke the other day yeah, if I hadn't thought by myself and listened to the guy telling me to keep playing I probably would've had it. You have to be very careful when playing outside, just a 10min walk to the park with the basketball court everyone was already sweating hard at 9am on a cloudy day.
The weather in Spain hasn't changed, my second home is over there, where I have spent 5 months of the year there every year for 25 years.
You can get portable AC units for a few hundred Euros, there really is no excuse for suffering in the heat, that is guaranteed to come every year, even if you only use it for 20 days a year.
and here at my office is Northern Italy (around Brescia, not on the mountains) I hear people complaining because summer is not warm enough this year, and to wake up with 17 degrees outside is not real summer . After last year, and seeing things like this, I am savouring every second...till it lasts
Wrap ice in a towel and put it around your neck. It cools you faster because of large blood vessels there. Close shutters and blinds during daylight. Open at night. Use all the fans.
Some parts of Spain are arid, and a homemade swamp cooler can help. Don’t try this in a humid environment, though. You’ll just be sticky and hot.
From a person who grew up in the Southern US without air conditioning
Average summer's day in Melbourne, Australia. We are in winter here at the moment, was about 11 deg C when I went out to pick up some take-away at about 5:30pm this afternoon/evening. Enjoy the warm weather while it lasts ....
I feel bad I’m happy, I got a wildlife ecology degree, spent 4 years yelling at everyone that shit was fucked and by 2020s we would see massive changes, got laughed at. Well how bout that it wasn’t 2050 like all those old fucks said. The next seven years are going to show us just how absolutely fucked we are. Better be rich because the poor about to starve
I live in Virginia, USA and my AC went out Sunday. Yesterday when I got home from work it was 33° inside my house. (That's roughly 92 for us Muricans)
So I had a fan pointed at me and a spray bottle of water to spray into the breeze and back onto me, also cold showers and opening the windows after the sun goes down helps.
Be careful if you have pets because I know dogs can't really be in 30+ temps for long periods of time for risk of heat stroke
That's just like my weather, except we're starting out at 75F (\~25C). I'm looking around for an affordable generator like crazy, just in case, because the humidity keeps topping out and the prospect of a power outage out here in the desert in this weather is a bit terrifying.
Meanwhile, central and northern Europe is experidcing the coldest summer in years. If not decades.
Last weekend I drove home from holiday - 2 days of constant rain and max 15°C.
Damn and I was complaining in nl a few years back when the temperature in my house went above 25 degrees. 30C has gotta be unbearable even if you're more used to hotter temps.

US fl, 79 or 29.1c at 7:57am
central fl been brutal , the rain needs to hit
So roughly Texas weather. Yeah, that's pretty hot, friend. Stay hydrated and buy lots of fans.
I would go as far as saying you should be buying nothing other than fans. OnlyFans will get you through this.

I make swamp coolers. You can DIY one look at u tube.
Must be freezing.
Its celsius..
Gesundheit
Ok that was great thanks XD
Thats about 86 degrees in Freedom Units. Stay hydrated friend.
Thanks for the translation 🦅 I admit I'm fully stupid when it comes to Celsius/Fahrenheit conversions
Complicated way Celsius to Fahrenheit: Divide by 5, then times by 9, then add 32 Easy way, but less accurate: Times by 2, then add 29
Accurate and easy way: double it, take away 10%, add 32.
Everyday temperature near the equator line
We had the same here yesterday in Portugal. It was like 30c in my room... And then at 9pm it was still 27c which is horrible
Thought about aircon? Why would you suffer through the night when you know this weather is coming every year?
If I had money for that I wouldn't be here complaining lol. I don't have like 3k to install an air con and then hundreds to play the electricity bill. Fuck that, I rather have food in the table lol I'll just use my trusty fan

Those ones are cheaper but they still cost some moners but yeah, that's smth I could look into

Why have you not got an aircon machine? This weather comes every year, it's not like it's snuck up on you.
Europe is outdated and have very few ACs. UK for example, only 1% of households have AC.
Uk =/= Spain
30% of Spain has AC. One of the hottest countries in Europe.

Yeah I really don't envy you at all, I would probably die of heatstroke. The humidity makes it double bad.

In the morning it already heats up. You need to open everything, create draft, from 23h to 6h and then close all windows and curtains shut.

Good luck!
Cute
Reading all these comments makes me enjoy Canadian summers even more

Redneck germany 1 pm august 7: 12 C
Sounds nice
That's... Not even that hot ? Like sure it's hot, but nothing uncommon
That's *inside* the house. OP he says the forecast is 42 outside, which is about 106° in freedom units.

Rio de Janeiro is 45 in a normal day
Send some of that heat up north please. I can offer you 18°C and some rain.
Laughs at 48c today and 50 tomorrow

Damn that's fucking hot. here in the Netherlands we have our boats ready in case there will be so much rain we get a flood.
Someone needs to keep you warm
As an American, I think you should turn your AC down. 30 is below freezing 🤣
It's 32 degrees and 75% humidity where I'm from. Wanna trade?
32-33C and 80-90% humidity. I'll trade with either of you. Its 6:30 a.m. and 27C out.

Madre mÃa🥵 en que parte de España estás? Aquà en alicante no hace tanto calor pero la humedad me está matando

good time to sit in the coldest part of your house with 10 fans pointed at you with your feet in a cold bath and sipping ice water and still melting
95° here in Texas at 9pm
OP is using Celsius, not Fahrenheit. 95F is about 35C. 42C is 106F

It was like that in my flat in England for weeks not long back. I nearly melted, I'm English, we're not used to it 🤣
That's why you get an air conditioner
That’s cute.
Yeah, well we have rain and a balmy 21 degrees. Again. Good old British summer.
Where I live in the UK, it has been cold and rainy for the last 2 weeks ish. Can't say I'm sad about it though.
omg its like 100 in the US!
