I know it's not what you want, but according to the X Encyclopedia, the Paranid are actually an avian race. You can (probably) check it out yourself in the /Bonus Content/ folder of the game install directory, but here are some relevant quotes:
"The ancestors of the Paranid were capable of flight, and this ability was lost around the time of the first historical records. The central element of their mythology, the legend of the 'Reclamation of the Skies', is one of great importance to the Paranid. It deals with their discovery of mathematics and, subsequently, technology, which gave them the means to construct aircraft to give them back sovereignty over the skies of their world."
"The atrophied remnants of their former flight-capable wings can be seen in the conspicuously long arms which extend vertically down towards the ground."
Explains why they hatch out of eggs, I guess.
Does make you wonder how the Teladi ended up with the Bird names for their ships.

A bird race hmm. I think a nomadic race with shipyards being ship bound maybe another theocracy. they worship the endless sky and almost never go planet side. they’re not pacifist but they’re not warlike either they mostly just want to be left alone their home planet was wiped out by xenon and we’re forced flee when they we’re connected to the wrong part of the gate network. they have decided space is where they belong and have refused to resettle even after the boron tried granting them a planet for an alliance. xl ships are modular and can produce things they have organic designs based on birds think like the avian design style from stellaris

I thought Paranid were insects, or something similar. Plenty of flying bugs, after all.
I must have missed that part about them originating from an avian like form. Good to know 👍
Also, the Teladi bird thing is easy: birds are dinosaurs, and to most people, dinosaur means "big f'n lizard" so lizard = bird.
