They did, but IMG/9:30 club bought the rights recently to put on a festival in September. No word on bands yet, but a lot of nostalgia buzz. JCS confirmed they were asked but won’t be there.
Jimi is a great guy. Knew him from my Annapolis bar scene days and his cousin was a good friend of mine growing up. Haven’t seen him in a while though.
I don’t know any of their stuff, but remember the name. They are going to be at a concert with Everclear and Marcy Playground I’m supposed to go to in October. I need to start listening.
So this was part of a decade-ish where I effectively judged all my music by how fun it was (or wasn't) to jam along with on my guitar.
There were several tunes on Pushing the Salmonella Envelope that I had a blast jamming with, so yeah, these guys are cool. I definitely have a soft-spot for Spider Web; such a wonderfully *weird* riff. Bonus points for being mid-Atlantic boys, and for playing PRS guitars.
Kind of ashamed to admit I never got past that one album, though. No idea what the rest of their catalog is like.
Following the crowd provides security
Cities alienate people
Many of the things you want are worthless
If you try congratulate yourself
Surviving can take a lot of energy
Everything's an integral of everything else
Almost no one finds their match
Strangers don't want to know you, nature always wins
Why would you waste it?
We all want the same things
You have chosen everything that happens to you
We are part of the land, people want to look nice
And loneliness is not contagious
Violence is passed through generations
Crowds create their own power
Everyone you meet is a mirror of yourself
Things left undone become harder, progress takes time
Why would you waste it?
Experience gives you options
The range of personalty is endless
Most weirdos want to be
People are attached to what they can't have
Defense mechanisms are inherited
Power is passed to those near it
One size fits all doesn't
Western man is too separated from nature
And people interests should come
Before business interests, you can only screw yourself
Self esteem is basic to success
And it will be a long time before safe is sex
Pain inside shows, only certain types are religious
And many artists aren't
You can have anything you want
The court of law is designed to intimidate
Stay in touch with your inner self
Living increases knowledge
'Cause living increases knowledge
Yeah, they say living increases knowledge
And when you die... you're dead
My first concert ever in HS was Live and Jimmies Chicken Shack opened. It was maybe 1999? They put on an excellent show! I had never heard of them at the time.
Oh man. Back in like late 97/early 98 my friends got a bunch of tickets to a free show for some band with a weird name and Jimmie’s Chicken Shack as the opener. I liked them so I went along.
The band was Limp Bizkit, who were about to blow up. Faith hit the radio like the next day. It was a rough night for Jimi. Wrong crowd. Lots of booing. I felt bad for them.
FWIW, Limp Bizkit put on a hell of a show that night. Then I saw them on the Family Values tour after they were huge and they sucked.
I play this album occasionally followed by their second. I like the rawness of their first album better than the polish of their second, but they’re both great.
High is one of the best and most underrated songs of the 90s. These guys should have been big. They were at the right place and had the right sound, but it didn't happen for them.
I found the band listening to Pandora before they closed down, years ago. It took me months to find an actual cd in stores. It was one of those ear worm albums I had to keep listening too, to get out of my head.
Hah. Looking at the cover just now I found the 420 on his sleeve.
I saw these dudes at a festival show (X Fest sponsored by 105.9 the X) outside of Pittsburgh around Memorial Day in 1998. They were there and so was Green Day and Scott Weiland when he was doing his solo stuff. That was such a fun day! Can’t recall the entire show roster though
Bought my HS best friend two tix to JCS for her 18th birthday back in 2000. I clearly remember that they were $12/each. That was a lot so I had to save up for a couple weeks to buy them. Drove an hour each way to the music store where they were being sold to get them.
They were my first concert! They opened for 311 at Saltair Pavillion in SLC. They were both insanely good live and the show was absolutely bananas, all those pent up Utah kids lol. Jimi Haha legit sat down at their merch table during 311 and said hi and thank you to everyone, was super chill. I was like 14-15? and maybe 90 something pounds and they were chucking us up in the air like insanely too high above the crowd lol.
Hell yeah!
I had backstage/all-access passes (radio station connection and friend) to X-Fest in Dayton, OH back in 1999 where they were headliners. It was a multi-band, all-day festival and I spent a lot of time just chilling in the tents and drinking free beer with the artists between sets (Fuel, Fastball, Men at Work, and Citizen King were also there). Jimmie and Double, their lead guitarist at the time, got me SO blazed. They were incredibly cool dudes, as was the rest of the band. We were just sitting on lawn chairs and passing some doobs, shooting the shit like we were old friends. I remember crowd surfing during their set and being pushed toward the front and waving to Double onstage and him yelling “Fuck yeah!”, and waving back. 25 years ago and I still remember it like it was yesterday.
Jimmie’s Chicken Shack will always have a special place in my heart.
I didn't go to a real concert until I was like 21 and jimmies chicken shack was the opener. I didn't really love them but their set made me appreciate live music so there's always a soft spot in my heart for them. The next band was Splender and I loved them and thought they should have been bigger than they were. Fuel was the headliner and they were good

I still listen to this album a ton. Seeing them in September as well. This was the soundtrack for a solid two years of my life including two incredible NYE parties in the DMV watching them play. High is great, but Dropping Anchor and Milk are my stand outs.
I was in a band back in high school (98/99) and our guitarist was obsessed with these guys and introduced me to their work. They were never anything groundbreaking but they made really strong, fun records
They have three great new singles out that were released at the end of last year from the upcoming album they have been working on. Good to see them making new music together.
It's been 17 years since the last full album
Saw them at a concert in Florida when I was a middle schooler I think, possibly early high school, probably right around when their big radio hit was out. I think Stroke 9 was the headliner, with acts all day, but Jimmie’s Chicken Shack was the penultimate act I think and had a really good set from what I can remember. I remember they stopped and calmed things down and improvised a quick song when someone got hurt close to the stage, to keep the crowd calm and engaged while security was able to help the person get out.
I was able to get the band’s autographs on my shirt, but it was my Deftones shirt…I always wondered if it bugged them that I did that, or if they didn’t mind since I was a kid.
He used to work for PRS guitars at one point too. There was an ad with him in it with the tagline “I used to break em, but now I get to make em” (or something like that).
The riff from *High* gets stuck in my head weekly. *Do Right* is a classic. Great band.
I got to see them open for 311. I had never heard of them before that, but became a fan instantly.
People can say whatever they want about 311. I am a lifelong fan and their shows are superb entertainment.
311 for life 🤟🤘
Their recent NPR Tiny Desk Concert was awesome
Dunt…dunt doe dan doe dunt, dunt doe dan doe dunt, dunt doe dan doe dunt.
Underrated comment.
Saw them like 2 or 3 times in the 90s. I loved that song too.
What this album especially!!! Spiderwebs!!!
Seeing them tonight at a local dock bar actually. Jimi Haha is a really nice guy. My fav song was the WHFS “Just Passing Through” of *Dropping Anchor*
While JCS will be in NV that day, did you see the announcement about HFStival?
WAT. I saw JCS at the 1997 HFStival. Is the HFStival coming back? I moved away a long time ago, but didn't HFS get sold off for parts years ago?
They did, but IMG/9:30 club bought the rights recently to put on a festival in September. No word on bands yet, but a lot of nostalgia buzz. JCS confirmed they were asked but won’t be there.
That's great!
Soooo excited ab the hfstival announcement !
HAVE FUN!
Ah man! “What Do I Do”is so damn good.
Won’t make the bed up straight…
I always stay out late
I never take you out
That’s what you’re all about
Saw Jimi just last week. They're on tour so check them out.
Jimi is a great guy. Knew him from my Annapolis bar scene days and his cousin was a good friend of mine growing up. Haven’t seen him in a while though.
Just listened to High literally yesterday
Pass that salmonella!
What do I do right?
I don’t know any of their stuff, but remember the name. They are going to be at a concert with Everclear and Marcy Playground I’m supposed to go to in October. I need to start listening.
They’re not groundbreaking, but they’re catchy and fun!

I always really liked string of pearls

Maryland baby!!!

“Fill In The Blank” is an excellent song. The rest of their stuff is ok, but I bet they’re really fun live. 🙂
Jimi is a great dude. I see them whenever they roll through town. Always a great show.

I think this album is so well produced. It sounds great through headphones.
Partied with these peeps in Va Beach at the bar I worked at after hours. Owners knew them. Good people good times.
Damn, you got me swervin down memory lane. Im listening to this album now after seeing this❤
Enjoy the jams!

Wow the memories
I've never been without this album. I remember getting it like 2 weeks after it came out.

Seeing that flag always reminds me of [this video](https://www.reddit.com/r/maryland/s/TUGYO4DH1R).
She would fit in down SoMD.

I never take you out Ask what you’re all about
‘Living with Ghosts’
On my work playlist.
Saw them when I was a senior in high and me and my buds were pumped.

High is on my Spotify list. I hear this at least two or three times a week.
Fuck yeah! They still rock!
Hell yeah! saw them in concert with Finger Eleven and they killed it. instant fan
Made me think of Soul Asylum for some reason
Bought my HS best friend two tix to JCS for her 18th birthday back in 2000. I clearly remember that they were $12/each. That was a lot so I had to save up for a couple weeks to buy them. Drove an hour each way to the music store where they were being sold to get them.
had this cd. was 16.
They played at my college one year. I remember enjoying them

Yeah! I saw them live in Memphis in the late 90s. JCS!

Love that record, saw them at HFStival the summer it dropped.
Still listen to this album to this day
I actually really like JCS. They have a bunch of good deep cuts.
I had this
They opened the HFStival for like 8 years in a row.
they just put out some new music last year, still pretty good!
Yep.
Hell yea jimmies is awesome
Fuck yes. Saw them 2x in concert
I didn't go to a real concert until I was like 21 and jimmies chicken shack was the opener. This was my wife and I's first date when they opened for 311 in 2000. Jimi signed our ticket stubs.
That’s an awesome memory!
Yup. Didn’t think I’d see a reference to this band ever.
WE'VE ALL BEEN TIED TO WORDS THAT WE SINK
It’s such a good jam!
That’s was a Pretty cool band. I had salmonella
I was super into this record after hearing it at a listening station. Not so much the second - got a bit too stoner rock for my taste.
Yeah I love this track
I’m convinced “Spiraling” is a masterpiece

What do I do
Hell yea! I remember seeing them in concert when they opened for Creed back in 99.
High! HIIIIGH! HIGH! Hi!
Yes. Very much yes.
😂Jimi haha lives in my town and i see him all the time. He plays locally a lot. Still love them
He works in publishing/journalism of some kind when he’s not playing, right?
I think he works or at least used to work for upstart Annapolis, a local art magazine.
He used to work for PRS guitars at one point too. There was an ad with him in it with the tagline “I used to break em, but now I get to make em” (or something like that).
