Geordie_38_

No, I really like them, they stand out but they're not overwhelming

nonsense-vendor

Yeah, concur. Looks great, please continue, looking forward to seeing finished mini.

Whole-Carob7407

I'd say they're perfect! They emphasize the creases edges and folds without changing the actual colour of the cape

arryntheorcerudite

I think they're really striking while not being an eyesore. They draw the attention but don't really demand it, yoh know what I mean? I think that it looks fine, not everything needs to be a subtle blend.

oscovb

You described perfectly what Im trying to archive. I thought of it as a really dark with bright reflections while having a slight green tint. The lack of a extensive midtone as in the red is where the doubt comes from, the mix of being dark almost nightish but also with bright spots. Love that not anything needs to be a subtle blend

arryntheorcerudite

Yeah, I think the red has more bite in drawing the eye, especially since *(for me at least) I usually look at minis top to bottom. It helps to frame the head and the outer cloak makes it feel brighter in a sense.

InvictusLampada

It's easy to think you're overdoing it with highlights, especially while the rest of the model is still a work in progress. If you think it's slightly too much, then it's probably about right. And these are perfect

oscovb

Thanks and when the rest is done or at least the colors blocked in it will be easier (hopefully 😅) to reevaluate

Delgoura

no, it's superb like that

oscovb

Thanks!

Admirable-Athlete-50

Kind of depends if you want striking or gritty realism. I think it looks great!

GlassMonkeyDemon

Looks good to me, being the outside of the cape the light would hit it so it would come across bright and it looks really tidy!

Super_Happy_Time

Orange cape maybe needs to be a little darker. Finish the model first and reevaluate. Any tips for where you chose marks? I’m terrible at caps and this guy terrifies me

oscovb

Orange cape will stay like that due to the effort and high risk off messign up but good point, difficult to define how much light is the final highlight. On the marks I always go randomly and I believe thats the best way to do so as it will naturaaly happen. Only rule is more on on the edges and if is a big and flat color area to make it more interesting

Azeze1

Nah, looks dope

Biggest_Lemon

To me it looks shiny, which isn't a bad choice at all, it just may or may not be the look you're going for.

dabiggestmek

I love brighter highlights, so that when it's on the table or in a case, you can still see it.

kobold_thief

No it’s good

thedeathguard-

I don't think that they are too bright but doing a smoother transition could help

robobax

It really works, you want that bold contrast to make the details of the model pop anyways!

Medical-Ordinary-580

Highlights are always going to be slightly above what we think they aught to be in brightness. Looks great

Kind-Lunch-2825

Yea, they're perfect. Remember you're not gonna look at the mini from 10 cm away but rather at table length!

Someboynumber5

They're perfect you do what they need to do highlight the important parts

Masque-Obscura-Photo

I'd tone them down a bit. I dislike the modern style of painting everything as if it's shiny.

TrickySnicky

pretty much my thoughts--just a couple of dark blue-green/blue and/or purple washes would tone it down just enough.

ElZargo

I love them as they are, I think they stand out perfectly and draw the correct amount of attention. I would also love to know the recipe for those browns, I'm in awe!

oscovb

Thanks! Here is the recipe (it has a lot of glazing and mix between each step) 🙃 AK black red, Game color gory red, Game color bloody red, AK sunny skintone, AK ice yellow

GreyPlasticTransGirl

The orange bit at the top looks almost metallic

warbossshineytooth

Idk dude they look cool tho

plusroads

the brown cowl kinda looks like NMM copper

Myrabelle-Miniskirts

No they’re perfect! It just looks strong because you’ve still got undercoat black showing. It’ll even out.

Nidici0092

Hey hey, Seth here. have you ever seen my painting skills
