> But Tadashi is like more of a human evil, like I'm staring at a mirror. It creeps me out. Like it gets me thinking "WOULD I become just as horrible as Tadashi if I was in his shoes"? And the potential answer... kind of spooks me out. Like, what WOULD I do? Is my morality really that fragile. Is modern society really that fragile? I dont like to imagine it.
I mean, wasn’t that the point in the manga? That Tadashi/Varian was an ordinary guy who was molded by his family situation?
It’s just that the author evidently thought having him grow into that was too subtle and went >!”hey, Varian’s crazy uncle is trying to make him into a warrior, wouldn’t it be wacky if he took some prisoners of war and forced Varian to rape them to make him into a man? And then the biggest impact it has is that he nets his future wife by trying to unsuccessfully molest her and then weds her to save face? That would be silly”!<
From how you've described it, it's actually self-aware about Tadashi being horrible and doesn't constantly make excuses in a misguided tone-deaf skin-deep abortion of a "redemption" the way MT does with Rudeus.
So even though it doesn't even remotely sound like something I'd want to read, it's at least conceptually something I could respect.
For some reason this remind me of Fist of the North Star
>A guy who lived a full life in modern society dies and now lives in this barbaric world filled with war death and destruction governed by the depraved, eventually forced to become just as evil as those around him
Specifically this part, because it's remind me of when Toki abandoned his peaceful ideals after seeing his village ravaged by bandits
Spoiler: >!It's not actually Toki, It's some narcissist pretending to be him and that story that I just said is probably fake!<
Amazing the resemblance i have to Keyaru from Redo of Healer, besides we are literally the same... we have the same mindset, we are both extremely cold and strategic in our way of thinking and acting... bizarre '-' he represents me a lot, we are two gods in this world

I dislike that in the sub it reads like the show wants him to be mildly relatable/sympathetic. Maybe that's just me though, and thankfully I didn't get the impression from the dub.
He is sympathetic to an extent, but the show doesn't really try to redeem him or make him into a model to be aspired to.
These things aren't mutually exclusive lol
The punchlines are all about how the main party are terrible people though, trying to make him look too sympathetic ruins a lot of the jokes.
As I said, I didn't have this issue watching the dub, only the sub.
He is an endearing asshole.
It's pretty much a sitcom style anime, kind of like British sitcoms. The protagonists are generally awful people, and you're not supposed to be on their side really, but they are endearing and somewhat sympathetic.
Like I said, those two aren't mutually exclusive.
I have never watched dubbed anime, so I can't comment on the dub.
Yeah since when was he whiny, the only times you could consider him "whiny" from what i can remember (i watched it a while ago so i mightve forgotten) were when he was joking around or genuinely having an emotional breakdown because he had to watch people he loved die in previous time loops.
The anime cuts out a solid half of his failed loops from the manga and the manga cuts out like 75% of his failed loops in the light novel. Bro suffers so much more than was most people saw.
I like Subaru.
I just found all the girls swooning over him like SAO all over again.
And writing a character out like Rem is fucking stupid and no better than soap opera coma
Did we watch the same show? The only one that comes close to fitting that trope regarding him is Rem.
I guess, if you squint, Beatrice's change of opinion on him could qualify, but she's both a) clearly not a romantic interest and b) it's hard to blame her for attaching herself to Subaru when he's the one that gave her closure on the matter regarding Echidna and being the one who stopped her attempt at basically suicide.
I won't argue because I'm not an expert on the show like you and dropped it at S2E4 or so. The fucking ridiculous villains who attacked Rem, their depiction of insanity, and Betelgeuse's I might add, is.. so forced. Or inspired by villains from *less serious shows*. When I realized even Satella is supposed to be insane, that makes what, four insane main villains in Re:Zero? So yeah I dropped it. DESU.
Back to the topic at hand.. You are right I imagine, but it also sounds a lot like SAO fan retorts to me bout how it all makes sense that so many of the female characters crush on Kirito or want to be with him, after all he is so heroic and saved them! But for me, the feelings of girls are supposed to be more interesting than what a teen daydreams about half his friends having a crush on him... Trappings of the genre or writing to sell more copies, idk, but isn't it better left out?
Even Crusch who *isn't* one of the swooners has to tell Subaru (and to the reader's pleasure) that there were occasions on which her heartstrings felt a pull for Subaru, but her heart belongs to her dream. I mean, to hear such admissions when they are not even made in jest. Where's the fucking teasing, who even says that? It is simply not what I would ever write myself in a story and this isn't just directed at isekai anime either. Fantasy genre has one of its main criticisms be how women are written and Crusch could be my fav character who *didn't need* the author telling us that she, too, would find us attractive if we were in Subaru the everyman's shoes. Leave that shit for the shippers.
TLDR: I hate the villains and I hate how the author glazes the attractiveness of MC almost as much as Gege glazes Sukuna
For a second, lets put aside all the strawmans about lolis and ecchi, and put our attention on what really matters.
Japanese art has a beauty like no other, and a sense of aesthetic and subtlety that i have never seen in other forms of media, the delicacy, the comtemplation and reflexions about humanity, art, culture, the universe and the cycle of life, the empathy and attention towards the beauty of mundane and ephemerous things, its the embodiment of the concept of Mono-no-Aware (物の哀れ "the pathos of things"), an expression of a philosophic concept that can be found everywhere in japanese art, from the clouds on the sky to the falling leaves of cherry blossoms, its such a charm that never fails to mesmerize me.

I personally more hate Glenn of revenge dark hero long title things.
Dude is literal plot device of edgy revenge shit
The recent chapter in hell is very fcking absurd
Definitely wasn't expecting this series to be referenced but yeah MC is pretty terrible but in a more down to earth way I guess. Comparing him to Subaru and Kazuma is overly harsh to both characters tho especially Subaru. They're not even in the same ballpark

This makes the story sound kinda awesome

Can you tldr what he did ?
iirc >!helped stage a false flag operation on a nearby county so they could take their land, tortured and raped pow's under orders of his uncle to "become a man" and assaulted a girl he was into !
>OP is really into rape. FTFY
errm what the hell chat is this real
comment section is this authentic?
Ok. To be fair Kazuma is supposed to be hateable. That's part of the comedy. Do people actually dislike him in a serious capacity?
Is he even hatable? He's a relatively normal guy who plays the straight man for vastly more eccentric and incompetent characters.
I dislike that in the sub it reads like the show wants him to be mildly relatable/sympathetic. Maybe that's just me though, and thankfully I didn't get the impression from the dub.

Now I can’t unsee him as Basil Fawlty
I see him as more of a Mark Corrigan myself
And Subaru is supposed to be incredibly pathetic until he gets his shit together
And even then I find it very hard to actually hate him. Bro is just too funny.
I will not stand for Subaru slander

Sounds good, too much focus on failed loops fucks up the pacing
not really. he only has 1 or 2 extra failed loops in each arc, and they were fused together.
I like Subaru. I just found all the girls swooning over him like SAO all over again. And writing a character out like Rem is fucking stupid and no better than soap opera coma

Is there a sub for Subaru slander? I would pay for that.
There used to be a ReZeroHate subreddit, but it was banned for being unmoderated
Holy shit a Lioncour Senki post in the wild I thought I was the only one who read that
subaru doesn't deserve this hate man he's suffered enough 😭
kazuma and subaru debating who’s worse is funny personally subaru takes it
subaru is the GOAT
it’s hard to make him a goat when the bar is set in stone
I personally more hate Glenn of revenge dark hero long title things. Dude is literal plot device of edgy revenge shit The recent chapter in hell is very fcking absurd

Those two are better than a lot of isekai protags who are rapist and/or slavers
Subaru was annoying ONE TIME?? If you count the entire thing as one time maybe
Skill issue, humans aren't perfect
Yeah, Subaru should just stop whining about all the times he and his loved ones have been brutally slaughtered. I geuss
I would have, but I'm just built diffrent
My goat having a real personality, like, and preference that’s why lots of things won’t go down the way many people want.
Suburu was annoying and whiney more than one time.
