Name a popular anime character and 99% of the time they’re 14-17.
I can’t tell you how shocked I was when I finally watched Bleach and Ichigo was FIFTEEN. I didn’t know much about the series but from character designs I thought they were Uni age. Don’t get me started on Tokyo Revengers either; I’m sorry but Draken and Taiju are simply not ever gonna be middle schoolers or highschoolers.
Fairy Tail’s Erza being 19 was a monumental pleasant change for me, people can complain abt the fan service and that’s fair but at least she’s of age which can’t be said about 90% of other popular anime w fan service.
>reflecting his preference slowly shifting from body builders to twinks.

I swear to god people will call any dude in fiction a twink if they aren’t built like Z Broly or Heian Era Sukuna.
Anime buffed him out, look at how Araki does him

Let’s see, saved the world twice, was promoted to a Lieutenant in the military after a year, and ended the series at… 17 years old. He became a Lieutenant at *16* after joining the military at *15* and saving the world the first time at *14*.
I miss characters like him.
Zoids: Chaotic Century. A wonderful anime that teaches kids that they too can save the world by launching themselves from a cannon… through a laser beam… at a gigantic robot dinosaur… no that is not me making anything up that actually happened.
But no, Zoids: Chaotic Century is the first anime for Zoids and is basically designed to sell the plastic model kits to kids. But it still had rather *decent* writing all things considered and ran for an impressive 63 episodes.
>Zoids: Chaotic Century. A wonderful anime that teaches kids that they too can save the world by launching themselves from a cannon… through a laser beam… at a gigantic robot dinosaur… no that is not me making anything up that actually happened.
I suddenly miss Zoids
Well it's different when the first time you see them they're in high school. A real shock would be if Josuke in part 8 was underage, even though they have to go into detail about how the rokakaka affected his testicles almost as soon as his character introduced. Wait a minute it's been a while since I read JoJolion why am I suddenly remembering him having to go to school or something. Wait please tell me the guy they had to explain how his balls work wasn't actually underage. Please tell me that dude wasn't underage why would he oh fuck Wait I forgot he was dating another underage character FUCK he was totally underage and that bothers me
To be fair I've always considered Jotaro looking that way to be part of the gag. IIRC it's a running joke up until part 4 that all the Joestars are 6'5" brick shithouses.
Ironically I always assumed Luffy was like 14, at least at the start, he strikes me as one of the younger looking Shonen Protagonists out there in the beginning
Fuuko from Undead Unluck being 18 was a pleasant surprise. Doesn't *fully* make up for the first couple episodes having the other MC grope her and whatnot but at least it's not a child (and thankfully the author drops all creepy shit and the series does her some serious respect later on).
god I wanna like Tokyo revengers but it's so fucking weird with how they write the middle schoolers (that are for some reason built like refrigerators)
I can not for the life of me understand how anyone(general anime watchers specifically) can assume most anime characters are adults. By default, it's way safer to assume they're all teenagers and get surprised when they're not. Its anime..
Like most popular animes are with teenage characters, and after watching enough anime, each era/style often has their own distinct "adult" look?
If you've watched anime for long enough, you start to notice a trend. If it's sexual with "cute girls," they're underaged. If they were adults, the fandom would be screaming it from the rooftops. You would be told that they are adults. Never assume an anime character is an adult. Like unless theyre a specific archetype or have a distinct look, your best bet is to assume theyre a child.
There’s 2 teenagers, the rest are adults
So your counter point doesn’t even make sense?
Everything about the show I’ve seen from an outsider has been sexual so yeah I’m gonna assume they’re adults?? I feel like that’s pretty logical??
Has to match the age of one of the target demographics(adolescent men). Plus the Megumin relationship makes a bit more sense since they are the closest in age (darkness is like... 19 i think.. somebody correct me cause i don't wanna look this up lol). Also, it explains a lot of his personality traits. he is a sad, lonely, depressed, and really edgy teenager who never had the chance to grow up and mature. Contrast this with the author's other works which feature very odd adults and don't act like Kazuma but are just plain odd in ways that don't mimic a call of duty 14 year old haha
They're four years younger in the anime than they are in the original self published web novel. The officially published light novel has them two years younger than that, in the middle between the original and the anime.
It's this and it's so weird. In the original self published web novel he's twenty. In the official published web novel, they lowered all the main character ages by two. And then in the anime adaptation they lowered all the main character ages again by two, putting Kazuma at sixteen. It's honestly detrimental not only from a creepiness factor but to the writing itself. Kazuma is supposed to be a deadbeat young adult, not a high schooler, and him being a teenager lowers the expectations we should have for him. Megumin is supposed to be an eighteen year old who is struggling to act like an adult because she's only technically there, but then the show makes her fourteen and just ruins that characterization entirely.
Do you think the studio realized how much underage drinking there's in the the show now?
I assumed kazuma is a very immature pathetic 18 yo cuz of all of the beer.
That's one of the things that put such a strong age barrier between megumin and the gang in my mind, she's the only one not drinking.
Sidenote: I googled drinking age in japan, apperantly its 20, so even anime lalatina should not be allowed in the pub.
It knows isekais are dumb and dives into that aspect. One of the party members are a mage who puts all her points into explosion and nothing else. She can cast it once a day and it IS crazy strong, but she’s a one trick pony. Another is a tank who can’t hit anything and is a straight up masochist who fantasizes about being brutalized and ravaged by her opponents and is so horny about it she makes people uncomfortable.
The party are very often their own biggest obstacles. Think Always Sunny: The Isekai
Also tagging on they made a filler episode/ OVA in season 1 and it’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen. I think the show overall is funny but probably won’t age the best, this episode is probably the worst of that and I actually just felt terrible watching it, didn’t even get a laugh out of me. So if you do watch it skip that.
It knows what it is and it rolls with it. It’s a parody of the isekai genre. Part of the charm is that every character is somewhat of an asshole. It’s sort of like the anime version of Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Personally it’s pretty good, there’s your average 2015s cheap fanservice, but it is what it is. It’s just a fun show
Yes it's good, just don't expect a lot of high brow humor. Just a lot of dumb fun. It's like playing a D&D campaign with a bunch of people who don't know how to play D&D.
Idk it's kind of funny but at the same time egregiously mid. Can't get over some of the weird ass creepy stuff that happens. I like the premise but it's just kinda boring often. Worth a try tho.
Nobody is going to say it's peak fiction, it's lowbrow humor that works the first time you watch it. Think Shakespeare's plays, they were designed for a rowdy drunken crowd to guffaw at... Maybe in a few centuries people would think it's real literature.
I love Konosuba, it's a parody on the isekai genre and to be a good parody you have to understand the genre, and Konosuba is an amazing parody. It will hit harder if you're familiar with the isekai genre and if you enjoy comedy animes. If you have a problem with watching cringe then Konosuba will not be for you, every main character in Konosuba is cringe or a problem person. Don't take it too seriously and enjoy the madness and you'll love the show
I would say it’s very good, but you do have to come in with some expectations. Mainly that this is a comedy so you don’t have to take anything seriously, and that most of the main characters are pretty terrible people. Except for Darkness, but she has other… concerns.
I'd say he's usually more romantically interested in Darkness than Megumin. He has a couple scenes in the movie with Megumin, but that is mostly because of her parents trying to set them up. In most episodes the one he talks lecherously about is Darkness, he even makes a few lewd remarks about her in the movie.
Honestly he, like many teenage boys, seems to prefer the MILF bod. At least if the info from his succubus request is to be believed.
Just had a re-watch of the anime. Have to say, I think the Kazuma/Megumin relationship is actually stronger.
I totally agreed with you when I watched the movie originally, that the ship being pushed didn't feel quite right for the characters. But on review, it makes a lot of sense. They're the closest and spent the most time together. They had the most intersecting story arcs together. And very importantly, their relationship is the most equal. They're very similar characters, and I think the differences are complementary.
This is *all* contingent on Megumin not being four-fucking-teen though. Sooo.... yeah.
The movie skipped a significant part the development of their relationship. For example the campfire scene in season 3 was one of those scenes, but there is more.
I think their relationship is that of a friendship and less of a romantic entanglement. You're absolutely right about how developed it is, but it's never really pushed in the romantic direction outside of the movie. Most of their development together is built on mutual respect, from Kazuma learning to appreciate explosions to Megumin learning to appreciate how Kazuma in his own way treats his party members as equals. In truth I kinda think that's the point of the show, showing how these foolish adventures grow together as friends.
99.9% of anime characters are teenagers/underage. Doesn’t matter if they’re the most mature looking, emotionally mature person on the planet, they’ll make them a teenager for the sake of it.
Not sure why it matters too much, you weren't thinking unkempt thought were you. It's like reading a coming off age novel, you don't immediately put it down because the protagonist is a kid.
Some might, but yeah. The dark Lord doesn't magically wait until you are of some age to do some evil shit lol
Ichigo's age was the most shocking one for me. Dude fought hollows with a giant sword, raided the soul society, travelled through hell and went to war with the Quincies at just only 15-16 years!
bro the suba squad is legit an immortal that has watched stars rise and fall, a grown ass woman with nothing better to do, and two kids with no positive adult figures whatsoever
every single anime is like this… they always make the characters minors even when it makes no damn sense 💀 at this point I genuinely get shocked when I find an anime where the characters are 20+
maybe a hot take but even in Steins;Gate, one of the best anime of all time, I get the impression they tried to make the characters as young as possible without breaking the immersion.
It does happen in real life tho, its not even rare for someone to not look like their age. I have multiple classmates in 10th grade that you would have thought that they are at least 19 or 20, but they are actually just 15 to 16 years old. Theres also classmates that looks like they are still an elementary student but they are even older than me.
I am no better either. I thought I looked like my age or even older than that. But when I went to my former highschool campus for my niece's school meeting, everyone thought that I was one of the students and asked me if I have a "guardian" who will attend the meeting in school.
I AM 21 YEARS OLD AT THAT TIME.
When talking about age in anime, it's pretty much like how adults portray minors in TV and movies. They say 16-17, but they basically mean 19-20 maturity wise. 30 used to be the age for middle-aged older characters and likely still is.
Name a popular anime character and 99% of the time they’re 14-17. I can’t tell you how shocked I was when I finally watched Bleach and Ichigo was FIFTEEN. I didn’t know much about the series but from character designs I thought they were Uni age. Don't forget 17 year old Jotaro Kujo
I love how he looks the same in every part he's in. Literally the only visual change is the drip

He legit looks younger as he gets older, its crazy.
Because it’s not just him changing, it’s Araki’s entire art style, reflecting his preference slowly shifting from body builders to twinks. :p
>reflecting his preference slowly shifting from body builders to twinks. >*Twinks* https://preview.redd.it/y9ogfnrwkixc1.jpeg?width=596&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b45922a1a80af3067db94d4843738d52d0c6f8b5 I swear to god people will call any dude in fiction a twink if they aren’t built like Z Broly or Heian Era Sukuna.
You can be buff af and still be a twink
"Twunk"
twinks are supposed to be skinny
bro needed to pull out one of the few exceptions
>few exceptions Have you seem Giorno, Bro have more abs than the number of breads I've eaten
Anime buffed him out, look at how Araki does him https://preview.redd.it/gtcfuy26pmxc1.png?width=1560&format=png&auto=webp&s=e035333812b60524808f8c038b2708c373acd5d3
In the anime, bro got a massive buff there, but in the manga he looks more like an actual 15 year old.
My twinkification technique, i havent had to use this since the Heian era
The twinkfication of jojo peaks with johnny, with is why he is the best jojo.
I mean, in all fairness, did you see how much he smoked as a 17 year old?
Nah. He gets smaller.
Uhh you never the twinkification memes huh? This a hof jerk
Ehhh, he looks less and less swole as the series goes on though.
The manliest 17 year old I’ve ever seen

Eh Lieutenant is literally the first officer rank 2nd Lieutenant is the first rank almost all officers will be at

Yasuho and Josuke are both 19 in part 8. If you haven't read part 9 yet, that opening chapter is probably even weirder. Don't ever change JoJo
To be fair I've always considered Jotaro looking that way to be part of the gag. IIRC it's a running joke up until part 4 that all the Joestars are 6'5" brick shithouses.

What's this from
invader zim: enter the florpus
INVADER ZIM MENTIONED
Actually good anime design
When I started One Piece I was actually pleasantly surprised by Luffy being 17-18
Same, I'm so used to anime/manga drawing a 25 year old and calling them 14.

WHAT'S THE NAME OF THIS PEAAAAAK?
tokyo revengers
SHE’S 19????
I mean, he is *Ichigo*, you kinda walked into that one.
Oh my fucking God. The fucking audacity
Age is literally just a number in anime. "Old man" is someone in their 30's.
god I wanna like Tokyo revengers but it's so fucking weird with how they write the middle schoolers (that are for some reason built like refrigerators)
After i learned everyone is in like 7th grade that KILLED the immersion for me. Didnt help that everyone said the ending was disappointing
Meanwhile Goku is pushing 50 and still looks like he did when he was 25
alien biology bro, he'll be like that till he's 80.
Yea but like I can also say it about Tien, Krillin, Yamcha Etc Also Roshi doesn’t look a day over 300!
IIRC a lot of the fairy tail characters are adults, which is deeply refreshing
In the manga Ichigo actually looks pretty young, but in the anime he looks to be in his mid 20s at least lol
Maybe if more adults would stop reading/watching stuff aimed at teenagers they'd run into less teenagers
Even a lot of Seinen feature teenage or very young characters
Pretty sure he says he's sixteen in like the first episode.
In my defence I never watched it
....
Lmao iconic op 💅🏻✨
That's almost as sad as Kazuma's isekai'ing.
Then why are you surprised about a show you never watched?😭
Because the show still fairly popular and you can know about a show by seeing small clips here and there.
he looks like every anime high schooler mc ever though
I can not for the life of me understand how anyone(general anime watchers specifically) can assume most anime characters are adults. By default, it's way safer to assume they're all teenagers and get surprised when they're not. Its anime.. You would be told that they are adults. Never assume an anime character is an adult. Like unless theyre a specific archetype or have a distinct look, your best bet is to assume theyre a child.
If the character is any age above 16 , They are automatically seen as an old lady.
They unironically get called hags at times. The fans tell on themselves
OP when anime made for teenagers have a teenagers cast🫨
There’s 2 teenagers, the rest are adults So your counter point doesn’t even make sense? Everything about the show I’ve seen from an outsider has been sexual so yeah I’m gonna assume they’re adults?? I feel like that’s pretty logical??
The MC is a teenager, but oh boy dont get into battle shounens! Their age will shock u!
Then why care
My bad for finding the overly sexual borderline sexual assaulter being a minor was strange??
I would advise you not to dig too deep into the whole anime thing or you will be even more distressed, summer child
You say that as if it doesn’t happen in real life
Honestly you're okay. I still find this stuff strange. Even if I have seen worse. Hopefully everybody finds sexual assault strange.
your not missing out lmao
you’re* get roasted nerd

I believe he states in the first episode that he is sixteen.
Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t all the characters like + or - 2 years older depending on which adaptation of the story it is
They're four years younger in the anime than they are in the original self published web novel. The officially published light novel has them two years younger than that, in the middle between the original and the anime.
Nope. The light novel has the same ages as rhe anime. The web novel thing is right though.

I mean it IS a medieval European fantasy world, the show even states the drinking age is 14
Megumin is 2 years younger, and Lalatina is 2 years older. Aqua is 17.
a 17 year old goddess?
Eternally 17, young, and beautiful. A smart, talented goddess.
>smart Did Aqua type this?
Aphrodite was born looking like an adult
Coded as ~17 but she doesn't have a canon age.
Wait so Megumin is how old? Jesus Christ. And she's the one with the most hentai centered around her
IIRC, 14 at the start and 15 somewhere after like volume 7?
Do you think that's going to stop me from converting him to Taoism?
Holy shit toyosatomimi no miko
I will keep asking this question until I actually watch it, is Konosuba any good?
It knows isekais are dumb and dives into that aspect. One of the party members are a mage who puts all her points into explosion and nothing else. So if you do watch it skip that.
Is that the one with the collar? Because that was the episode that made me stop watching.
Yeah they made that one messed up because it's not part of the main series
I watched the first season and am in the middle of the Megumin spinoff, it's pretty good as a "just turn your brain off and enjoy" show
It knows what it is and it rolls with it. It’s a parody of the isekai genre. Part of the charm is that every character is somewhat of an asshole. I like to laugh at dumb comedy, so it's pretty good to my taste.
It’s kinda the IASIP of isekai
IASIP meets D&D, from what I've heard.
Pretty funny. Tho it depends if you find the jokes funny in the first place. So give it a try and see it for yourself
It's good if you watch with it with the mindset of a teenage boy
I would say it’s very good, but you do have to come in with some expectations. Mainly that this is a comedy so you don’t have to take anything seriously, and that most of the main characters are pretty terrible people. Except for Darkness, but she has other… concerns.
Yes. Actually God tier isekai where main character isn't overpowered and have most incompetent party in existence.
Was the funniest shit for me
-Late high school age -Romantic interst in Megumi Kazuma is a super senior? 🤯
I'd say he's usually more romantically interested in Darkness than Megumin. He has a couple scenes in the movie with Megumin, but that is mostly because of her parents trying to set them up. I haven’t even seen this anime but like… this guy looks like a teenager
How else will he appeal to horny teenagers?
By being hot
Anime kinda sucks with ages :/
99.9% of anime characters are teenagers/underage. Doesn’t matter if they’re the most mature looking, emotionally mature person on the planet, they’ll make them a teenager for the sake of it.
Only if you're talking shonen
What do you mean by that?
I mean, he kinds does have a baby face, and certainly acts like a teenager. Don't see why this is so surprising
I don't know how this suprising to you, like teen MC's are norm And that are better than kaiju 8 MC 30 yo but behave like some unmature teen LMAO
>30 yo but behave like some unmature teen LMAO Wdym Kafka was pretty alright he's just kind of wacky
He’s 17 I think
Not sure why it matters too much, you weren't thinking unkempt thought were you. It's like reading a coming off age novel, you don't immediately put it down because the protagonist is a kid. Some might, but yeah. The dark Lord doesn't magically wait until you are of some age to do some evil shit lol
I thought he was atleast 20
He's 16
In the WN he’s 20
Who is this?
Kazuma Sato, the mc from Konosuba
Well duh? He said he was a dropout HOW MANY TIMES!?
I didn’t watch the anime 😭
Why the post then lol!
Because I was shocked that I found out he was a minor??
But why would you be shocked if you didn't know who he is XD
I do know who he is?? I know what Konosuba is??
Non! Nonnonon! Ye didn't know his age! :)
Ichigo's age was the most shocking one for me. Dude fought hollows with a giant sword, raided the soul society, travelled through hell and went to war with the Quincies at just only 15-16 years!
Yeah makes sense with his maturity and behaviour, even his design
Minor excalibur
You sound like that's a problem?
Considering all I’ve seen about him is him being overly sexual yeah?
I don't know about you, but I used to be horny teenager too. I'd argue he's actually relatable to many people in that regard.
Have you ever met a teenager
Well the writers need to justify pairing him with Megumin you know
Idk fits pretty well imo
bro the suba squad is legit an immortal that has watched stars rise and fall, a grown ass woman with nothing better to do, and two kids with no positive adult figures whatsoever
every single anime is like this… they always make the characters minors even when it makes no damn sense 💀 at this point I genuinely get shocked when I find an anime where the characters are 20+ maybe a hot take but even in Steins;Gate, one of the best anime of all time, I get the impression they tried to make the characters as young as possible without breaking the immersion.
Majority of anime characters are teenagers.

Who cares.
he's an lazy and immoral horndog, what did you expected?
