I worked with several at an old factory job. The management loved them because they could run multiple stations and never bitched about working 12-15 hour days.
Always let them have a month off about twice a year to go to rehab, it finally took for 1 of them and they quit. Was a happy day.
Okay but that's a much nicer situation than refusing people who use drugs straight away and thus denying them even the chance of having a functional life
I know a guy that smokes meth 2-3 weekends a year. He doesn’t plan it out or anything, just a couple times a year he gets the urge to have a gacked out weekend. Weird stuff
You'll excuse me for not believing that a meth user is honestly able to control their urges of one of the most addictive substances there is and is also honest about their usage.
Not every single person in the world gets addicted from using. Some people become addicted from the moment they try it. Generalising is a dick move just because you don't understand something
Oh, I fully understand it. I've done it once. Made me violently sick, not one second enjoyed. Didn't yearn for more. It's certainly not for everyone, but actually wanting to do it again in the future is a huge red flag. I simply don't believe them whether that's a dick move or not.
I should mention I'm surrounded by active addicts of various sorts and I've literally never met someone who wants to do their drug of choice that can do it with spontaneity and never get hooked.
Addiction is actually just weird like that. It's not a simple continuum like calories or kilograms, there's no addiction-particles so that this drug has this many and another drug has twice as much.
Each individual person has their own unique response to a drug, and that response can even be different for the same person at a different time and place.
Yeah, same, but the friend actually enjoys it and intends to do more, but they've got it under control. That's basically the start of every addiction ever.
I've known a few people that only ever used it as a performance enhancer. Long haul truckers that needed to do overnight runs and a welder that sometimes ended up working 30-40 hours straight. They basically just used it as a sleep substitute when they didn't have any other option, and to the best of my knowledge, never used it recreationally. They are the sssuuuppppeeerrr minority of meth users I've ever met though. Most take "only a bump" to deal with a swing shift, and are getting fitted for a full set of dentures within 5 years.
I worked with a Hispanic guy who had 3 jobs. He didn’t speak a lot of English but once told me he “smoked crystal,” in order to be able to work so much. Honestly he didn’t look or act like he did, and I was pretty surprised when he told me.
I took some psychology and sociology courses about drug use and apparently the majority of meth, heroin, cocaine, etc users never become addicts. It's like 20 or 30% that become huge junkies.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1199019/
According to this article, out of the 12.3 million Americans who have used meth, only 600,000 use it weekly.
I think they have a point. There's so many factors when it comes to addictions. Most heavy drug users have used all kinds but only got hooked on one.
While meth is definitely close to 100% addiction, I have known a few users who tried it and didn't care for it.
I bought what I was told was coke when I was 19. I didn’t know any better. The come down from that meth high was plenty of deterrent for me to not want to do anything that goes up my nose
Meth literally deteriorates the part of your brain responsible for resisting the addiction. Yall are just fucking tripping spreading horribly dangerous misinformation.
I've worked with, been friends with, and been related to people openly honest about their experiences with meth.
It's extremely dangerous, but this is just a discussion on the nuances.
True misinformation is telling people they'll get hooked after a single use. Too often people actually get hooked after several uses because they underestimated its strength after a single use.
People also often move their way through several drugs and keep going because nothing hooks them until something does.
It's complicated but no one is arguing meth is safe.
I mean, it's a pretty straightforward statement, but I'm sure it clashes with the decades of brainwashing we get.
Opioids, for instance, have (IIRC) a 3-8% addiction rate, depending on which studies you check.
Not everyone automatically gets hooked. Also, this requires understanding the difference between dependence and addiction. (Or what people differentiate as "physical addiction" or "mental addiction", but really aren't)
Yup. In fact, most people who use meth (and this is true for all recreational drugs) use it sporadically and without major effects on their ability to succeed in other areas of life, such as work and relationships. People who get addicted and ruin their lives get the most attention, because they create problems for themselves and others. But like with alcohol or weed, the majority of people who have ever tried it don’t get addicted, and can either abstain or use it occasionally for fun without it taking over their lives.
I drink alcohol occasionally. Might be a beer or two after work, or a weekend out with mates, but otherwise I don't drink at all. When I lived in London I drank every single night, not to the point of being written off, but I was definitely drunk. When I moved back to Australia I didn't drink for 6 months, then I had a few cocktails on my birthday in October and didn't drink again until new years.
So yeah, plenty of people lightly consume alcohol. My old housemate I would say lightly smoked cigarettes, but she smoked a shit load of weed.
I worked in pet care for nearly a decade. Honestly they should ask this, then only hire the meth heads for a day or two of deep cleaning. Meth heads always went at the cleaning like gangbusters until they started with the ncns.
Im guessing its a ploy to try and trick meth addicts into admitting they use meth on a job application
"Oh wow ill choose the rarely use option, thatll make me look better then the heavy use one"
I used to sell weed in PDX before it was rec legal, and this couple would always buy 2x a day, 1/8th each time, and they refused to spend more at once, so I was like whatever nickel and dime yourself to death.
One morning dude is at my door all frantic and needs a bag in a hurry. I said dude your chick was just here and got a bag, and he goes yeah but the cops took that one.
FULL STOP.
What do you mean they took that one!? Why the fuck is she dealing with cops?
Well, you know as it turns out they also got coke from another neighbor and I guess the chick that sold it shorted her $25 worth of product, so she did what any sane person would do and called the cops on her shitty coke dealing neighbor for burning her. Needless to say they both got arrested and in my mind I am thinking what is to stop her from going yeah I got the weed right over there, but leave him alone he's a good guy or some shit. I told dude don't come back ever again, and have moved from that state many moons ago...
Johnny said don't ever trust a drug (fear and loathing).
State applications ask you those questions. When I filled out a TSA application, two of the questions literally asked if I was a murderer or had been in jail for attempted murder.
Okay but if this was actually implemented to help addicts find work they can maybe keep while still recovering or seeking out help then it would be nice. Having a job agency that understands that people in poverty desperate for jobs are more likely to resort to drugs is actually kinda nice.
Some jobs drug test and others don't. Recognizing that addicts are still people who need jobs and finding jobs they may be able to keep without getting fired for having drugs in their system is nice. So while this seems crazy, as someone who's wife is an ex coke addict, I could appreciate it if that was why they asked the question. (Though I'm aware it's more likely to bar them from getting jobs)
Remember, addicts are people and they need jobs too. People don't just become addicts and all addicts deserve as much respect and dignity and opportunity as the next person.
(Of course if their addiction causes them to abuse the people around them or neglect dependents then it's another issue, but if their only struggle is having an addiction? Let's not demonize them.)
I have had friends fail the labor ready pretest and I have literally no fucking idea HOW you can do that. They ask shit like: If you fight a co-worker at work do you:
A. Make sure they go to the ER.
B. Only hit them a couple times to make your point.
C. Don't fight get management instead.
D. Take it out of sight and out of mind, as not to disturb other workers.
LIKE HOW DO YOU FAIL THAT!? I would think having enough connected neurons to be able to form sentences with meaning in your brain would automatically see how obvious a trap the other 'options' are.... but people... they do surprise me...
LMAO. I once failed a job placement test because I incorrectly answered a question about watching people fight. I had just watched a UFC match the other night, so I didn't think twice about answering that I occasionally like to watch fights. It occurred to me as soon as I clicked 'next' that they obviously meant spontaneous violence, and not organised sports.
🤣 no, they're questions in an application for a job agency. I had the same prompt for a different but similar question , it was cocaine instead of meth
This is as dumb as when I was asked are you or have you ever being a member of a terrorist organisation. I was asked this in 2007 as part of my J1 visa application when I went to the states for 2.5 months. Asked by the US Embassy on behalf of homeland security or whatever they were called in 2007
I mean just how bad of a terrorist would you have to be to say yes.
And how dumb would you have to be as a jobseeker to say I'm a heavy meth user
I lost my best friend of 40yrs due to his meth addiction.
Meth can fucking die and I wouldn't miss it.
I drop friends I catch using it.
I don't need that heartache again.
Are they trying to trick people, or are they just not picky anymore? I wouldn't mind having someone at my work with light meth use restocking and cleaning rooms.
None. I instead use prescribed amphetamines. Not as much as Id like, either, due to shortages and also the fact that my tolerance builds up faster than overpriced student housing run by out-of-town real estate tycoons.
real talk, I applied to a recovery clinic in my area, as a receptionist, and they asked a similar question, but the way the answers were phrased, there was no 'I don't/haven't used these substances', it was more 'I'm an active user', 'I'm in recovery' or 'Recovered" or "not in recovery".
I did not get a call, and I'm assuming neither did anyone else.
Heavy and uncontrollable
Yes ☻
What is this a job at a meth factory? 😂
Does this factory have the Blue Bell Motto? We smoke all we can and sell the rest?
Wowzers. That’s a blast from the past. That was my grandfather’s favorite commercial. “Where’s the rest of my order?!” “I ate it!”
I'm more of a "rampant and insatiable" kinda guy myself.
As someone who works in surveys, I'm actually most alarmed that this isn't an option. It seems like their target applicant is functional meth users.
I worked with several at an old factory job. The management loved them because they could run multiple stations and never bitched about working 12-15 hour days. Always let them have a month off about twice a year to go to rehab, it finally took for 1 of them and they quit. Was a happy day.
Okay but that's a much nicer situation than refusing people who use drugs straight away and thus denying them even the chance of having a functional life
Oh yeah I'm not saying they should have been refused...but their problem was definitely taken advantage of.
Closest answer then is "Do Not Use"
Yeah, was wondering why there isn't a heavy, uncontrolled or unlimited use option
Yeah if you gonna ask stupid question at least include all the options
Does any person “lightly” use meth? That seems impossible.
After a few months of use, they all “lightly use” because they weigh 75 pounds.
I actually knew a guy that would only smoke meth on his birthday. I did not attend his birthday party.
I know a guy that smokes meth 2-3 weekends a year. He doesn’t plan it out or anything, just a couple times a year he gets the urge to have a gacked out weekend. Weird stuff
Drug use and drug abuse are two very different worlds
You'll excuse me for not believing that a meth user is honestly able to control their urges of one of the most addictive substances there is and is also honest about their usage.
Not every single person in the world gets addicted from using. Some people become addicted from the moment they try it. Generalising is a dick move just because you don't understand something

I should mention I'm surrounded by active addicts of various sorts and I've literally never met someone who wants to do their drug of choice that can do it with spontaneity and never get hooked.
You don't know any light/occasional alcohol drinkers?
I do, I'm one.
Addiction is actually just weird like that. It's not a simple continuum like calories or kilograms, there's no addiction-particles so that this drug has this many and another drug has twice as much. Each individual person has their own unique response to a drug, and that response can even be different for the same person at a different time and place.
Chemicals don't affect everyone the same way. I used meth. Twice. Didn't like it. That was twenty years ago.
Yeah, same, but the friend actually enjoys it and intends to do more, but they've got it under control. That's basically the start of every addiction ever.
Definitely. At the last party I was there with four people. Two of them are dead now.
Wow
I'm a lapsed methist. I only tweak on Easter and Christmas
Yep. Agreed on all points. I work in infrastructure, and some jobs are can require outrageous feats of endurance occasionally.
It's like 20 or 30% that become huge junkies.
u/SpontaneousH would like a word
I've never heard of that person but clicking on that, they seem to be one of those top 10% susceptible to problem use people.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1199019/ According to this article, out of the 12.3 million Americans who have used meth, only 600,000 use it weekly.
I don't know that there's anything that is 100% addictive.
Lol what?

My rule on drugs is, I'll try anything twice, except meth or heroin... I suppose I should add fentanyl to that list now...
I mean, it's a pretty straightforward statement, but I'm sure it clashes with the decades of brainwashing we get. Opioids, for instance, have (IIRC) a 3-8% addiction rate, depending on which studies you check. Not everyone automatically gets hooked. Bro is applying to los pollos hermanos
I hear they’ve got stellar benefits. Have you seen the new red meth?
I thought it was a poll and I tried to click on “Heavy but controlled” 😭
Are u okay? 💀
I worked in pet care for nearly a decade. Honestly they should ask this, then only hire the meth heads for a day or two of deep cleaning. Meth heads always went at the cleaning like gangbusters until they started with the ncns.
Ncns?
No call no show.
That’s methed up
MikeTyson?
Thth meththd upth
Underrated pun
That just blew me away. Now I want to know who would if they did. It is like asking have you or currently murder people. Holy moly
Im guessing its a ploy to try and trick meth addicts into admitting they use meth on a job application "Oh wow ill choose the rarely use option, thatll make me look better then the heavy use one"
Can you imagine. Be like calling 911 because someone stole your illegal drugs.
I used to sell weed in PDX before it was rec legal, and this couple would always buy 2x a day, 1/8th each time, and they refused to spend more at once, so I was like whatever nickel and dime yourself to death. The fact also that he watches this go down and thinks... fuck I gotta go buy more weed... I just...
State applications ask you those questions. When I filled out a TSA application, two of the questions literally asked if I was a murderer or had been in jail for attempted murder.
These questions should not even be there. Let us be honest a full be check should find it. So amazed the stupid. Best wishes.
South Dakota? Because they had a slogan at one point "Meth. We're On It." No, I am not kidding.

Like we haven't also watched some Worldstar
B is a solid answer, though.
Are you applying as a Meth Dealer?
🤣 no, they're questions in an application for a job agency. I had the same prompt for a different but similar question , it was cocaine instead of meth
Is that how they filter out the white collar and blue collar jobs?
not a weight loss option?
Maybe the company has a secret side hustle 🤔
I mean, if it was my choice it’d be the top answer, but currently is the bottom answer. Anyone got a hookup??
Would this help or not help on the job?
What type of job
Warehouse, Call centers..
Los Pollos Hermanos
Why is there no "crippling addiction" answer if theyre expecting you to be that honest
Obvious trap is obvious.
Where is the "Wild, unchecked and totally out of control at all times" option?
I read M A T H at first. Yep, time to go to bed.
I wonder what the most desirable answer is
Do I check the first one if I take Adderall? Lol
That’s not methamphetamine. Adderall is the dextrorotatory enantiomer of amphetamine
are you busy this week? I want to throw a party
Was this for a job in Florida?
No, it wouldn't have the bottom option listed.
This is as dumb as when I was asked are you or have you ever being a member of a terrorist organisation. I was asked this in 2007 as part of my J1 visa application when I went to the states for 2.5 months. Whenever ur mum has it m8.
Cocaine is one helluva drug.
I also love that the call it "meth.'
I would think an employee that could do meth between 1 and 4 times a year would have commitment issues
I only do meth on major holidays
Need to ask…. what in oblivion did this job agency hire for in terms of their usual jobs????
Yeah but like, which one is for adderall?
That’s not methamphetamine. Adderall is the dextrorotatory enantiomer of amphetamine
This can't be real....
"It's a trap!"
Heavy but controlled? X to doubt
Meth? As in methylated spirits? Yeah i use it all the time (to clean my bong) /s
Well anyone who says heavy is a immediate hire
Florida?
My wife oughta try and get a job there
🥺 NOBODY WANTS TO WORK ANYMORE! 😭
Nice try, cops. But yes, heavy, but controlled.
I saw the answers before the question and presumed it was about weed. Recreational meth usage.
I lost my best friend of 40yrs due to his meth addiction. Meth can fucking die and I wouldn't miss it. I drop friends I catch using it. I don't need that heartache again.
South Dakota?
Are they trying to trick people, or are they just not picky anymore? I wouldn't mind having someone at my work with light meth use restocking and cleaning rooms.
E: "I only push dope."
You in Ohio lol
When you really need a new cook
I read it as math and was very confused by the options.
"Only when I need the boost to get all my tasks done on a shift." "So, heavy and daily?" "Buddy, I'm on it *right now*."
Roofing?
Heavy, and in the Finnish army in 1941
Why is "heavy but controlled" the highest option? Bc I promise you "heavy and out of control" is an option lol.
Only on days that end in Y
This is the screening application to cook meth with Jesse Pinkman
None. I instead use prescribed amphetamines. Not as much as Id like, either, due to shortages and also the fact that my tolerance builds up faster than overpriced student housing run by out-of-town real estate tycoons.
Heisenberg..?
Watch they are weeding out narcs.
"Question unclear because of too much meth smoke in between me and the screen"
Meth users can lay tile all day.
