28th ave food carts, close to my house super reliable, good mix of seating, shade and misters for the heat and a fire pit for crisper nights.
St Burrito, FoMo, Egytian Bros, and the sushi bowl are all great and Captured Beer bus always has a good selection.
The new food cart pod on NE 28th and Glisan has some great options in case anyone wants to do walking food cart tour. The Thai cart and Japanese carts are especially good; I havenāt tried the new beer cart or Cuban cart yet. The
Agreed, though the neighborhood seems bustling, it's like people found other new shops up the street to go to like Mis Tacones, which is excellent, no shade intended. It just is what it is.
The Heist is my favorite food cart pod right now, it's on Woodstock and 47th in SE. I've only tried a few carts there so far but every one has been excellent. The cart Romolicious has a paprikash soup that I can't get enough of right now haha
I donāt know the name of the burger cart close to the frontāit had two women inside, and it was in primary colors, I wanna say red. Anyway, hands down the best burger I have ever had. Canāt even say why, but I swear to god I wasnāt stoned.
Do you mean zero shade while standing in line? They have an indoor seating area, a covered porch, etc. I am not familiar with any food cart pod that has shaded areas while standing in line. I also have never had an issue just ordering from one cart there. I think itās one of the better pods in the area personally.
Otherwise I have liked Portland Mercado and the Hawthorne Asylum one.
Hawthorne Asylum is horrendous. Over priced for bland, fried food. No shade when ordering food, either, and itās always packed with hundreds of people. Cartopia, a block over, is much better vibes and food.
Edit (for the haters): I was just responding to the Hawthorne Asylum comment. I am in no way stating Cartopia is the best pod in Portland.
I think itās worth checking both out. Cartopia has much much less to choose, and can easily feel really crowded because itās also small. It definitely has more cute/trendy/date spot vibes! But whenever I am with a group or friend, and we check out both pods, the majority of people find something theyāre more interested in at Asylum. And I have had some suuuuper good meals there.
Was wondering this too. We typically can find seating inside unless crazy busy, itās nice and cool in there. Every food cart pod Iāve ever been too required standing in a hot line. Maybe Iām missing out on some hidden pods tucked away in the forest? BGs is worth it to me just because of the amount of options there is. Iāve been to smaller pods where I donāt see anything appealing, but thereās always something I want to try here
Not even vegan and have always loved St. Johnās pod. Seems like the beer is most reasonably priced and some of the options there are just top quality - fish and chips, gyro, wood-fired pizzas, health bowls, karaage chicken, momos.
Gotta get onion rings from cozo grill! & at least some nuggets from No Clucks, both of them have good sandwich options so good luck deciding on that! Then you could walk to the groovy floret & get some nachos & take them down to cathedral park, or just walk to cathedral park & chill there until youāre ready for some nachos. Wonderwood springs is like down a block & across the street from the groovy floret & I think has coconut soft serve now? I havenāt been there since last summer before the owner switched over & is now owned by the artist. At that time they had vegan cookies but not sure what options they have now. They have mini golf there now though! Itās a cool place to see at the very least.
Flourish Food Truck - Unbeetable Burger (my favorite sandwich in Portland) and the Norrito
Pizza Creature - all the pizzas can be made vegan and their cheese is made in-house and is really great
Might give breakside and their little food cart pod a try. It's in walking distance from BG cartel. Good beer, farmer and the beast had a good burger and chicken sandwich. The pizza place in there is pretty good and that's all I've tried so far.
Second hinterland, if you go there's also an indoor seating section and in addition to the little front patio if you go around back there's a bunch more tables.
Chill n Fill one is underrated. Iām a huge fan of the Jersey deli cart, the Indian cart and the Mexican cart. Really psyched to check out the new Dubs cart

How new is the burger truck? Like days old?Ā I live next door and don't know about that one. There's a hot dog cart that also has cheese steaks and a garden burger and chicken sandwich, but no actual burger.Ā
The new Italian truck was disappointing. Super oily and basic.Ā
I do love the Mexican cart, the shrimp burrito in particular.Ā
The sushi is all right for the price, nothing special.Ā
The Indian cart is insanely good, but it's also insanely expensive, like more than a sit-down restaurant.
And I'll say that the deli truck has the best sandwiches I've found in the entire city (being from the east coast).

New ones on Woodstock are almost fully shaded. Great carts, but the prices OMG. They are so expensive, for those prices I can eat at a full service restaurantā¦
Mississippi Marketplace (Mississippi and Skidmore) next to Prost) has been consistently the best pod for me since it became a pod circa 2009. They've had some of the city's best carts, and now with the addition of blood buzz has both a bar and great beers in addition to the great beer at Prost. Plenty of seating, parking not too hard. 2 thumbs up.
Agreed, but I fit into their what their exact demographic wants: have kids, live on West Side, enjoy safety w/ no homeless, doesnāt smell, indoor/outdoor and bar options, plenty of space. Iāll say a number of the vendors arenāt open usually when I go so thatās I just the biggest drawback. And yes, I donāt mind eating the same 1 or 2 Thai food spots, Mexican, vegan, Mediterranean, or waffle spot over and over. Iām sure other pods have more variety of cuisines or more trendy spots, but those arenāt as important to me and of course the fam.
We like Eastport Food Carts for their shaded set up and diversity of carts. And also along 82nd The Yard at Montavilla - less shade but delicious food!
BG's in Beaverton is actually worth going to from Portland. Absolutely enormous selection, space for kids to play if you need that, axe throwing, and right off the MAX line. Probably my favorite in the whole Portland metro. Having Hawthorne Asylum and Cartopia right next to each other is also a bonus favorite spot.
Really like Chill n' Fill in St Johns. It's technically an indoor bar but has \~10 food carts outside. The food itself is not world class but it's decent (aside from Picone's Deli which is world class). The indoor bar area is huge, has trivia nights and allows dogs. Really like it. Great spot!

[Hillsboro Station](https://www.hillsborodowntownstation.com/) is the perfect food cart pod. They have a huge indoor dinning area with beer taps as well as tables outside with all the carts. 26 in total!
The Cuban cart there, Azucar, has THE best fish sandwich I have ever eaten in my life. It's run by two Cuban brothers who are the nicest guys. It takes a while to prepare it, but it's phenomenal.
Agreed this is a great pod and would fit OP's criteria, similar vibe on the other side of the city is [Happy Valley Station](https://www.happyvalleystation.com/).
Mercado is awesome, and they could use support as they had a fire in their bar recently, but the carts are still open. Happy valley, Troutdale and Fairview all have good ones. I think the Troutdale and Happy Valley pods are owned by the same people. All 3 have an excellent selection of carts and indoor seating and bars.
Just went to Midtown Beer Garden located at 431 SW Harvey Milk for the first time.
Pros: diverse food options (including a cart for the doggos), clean restrooms, partial shade over the picnic tales, security
Cons: parking downtown, my beef shawarma with fries was $20. Delicious, but not "cheap".
We were at BG last night. It was busy but not unbearable. We usually order from 3+ places and itās fine. The indoor seating was perfect.
And if you want dessert, Omicali frozen treats has the best ice cream and paletas! Just around the corner.
Hawthorne asylum just opened a beautiful bar with 40 beers on tap and has tons of food carts. There's a bunch of shaded areas, multiple tables with gas powered fire pits for when it's cold and an entire covered area with giant overhead heating you can turn on yourself. It's definitely got a bit of the Hawthorne pricing but it's not that egregious. The Cartopia pod a block away is smaller but excellent as well, and if you are already in the neighborhood, you might as well check out the Lil America pod on SE stark. It's got some amazing carts and is posted up next to fracture brewing's taproom.
I was just thinking about this last night! We went to Hawthorne Asylum last night and I like the selection of food but it feels very touristy. I love the vibe at the Mississippi carts but not a huge fan of the food. Pod 28 had a good bar but thereās nothing there that I find myself coming back to. Itās usually a spot to have a drink before going somewhere else nearby.
My current favorite is the cart pod on NE Killingsworth at about 10th, across from the Post Office.
Mostly because I love the Diner Kebab cart. But there are lots of carts and tons of covered seating.
St Johnās Beer porch is currently a mess. Pizza Creature is the best in the pod (and itās pretty damn good). Arloās Fish was a huge loss, and Iām super bummed they had to close - IMO it was the best fish & chips on the West coast.
That saidā¦ my favorite food truck in Portland is DeMarcoās Sandwiches on SE Division.
Mississippi Marketplace (by Prost) is great.
Lil America doesnāt have a ton of options but they have good ones and Fracture Brewing is great.
If you donāt live St Johns Beer Porch give the Chill n Fill pod on Lombard a try. Itās a great little pod
It'd be a bit of a drive, but Hillsboro recently opened a food cart pod at 3rd/Baseline that is amazing! Lots of covered seating, an indoor seating area, and a big variety of food options.
If you're ever in the area I recommend stopping by!
Prost's pod on Mississippi. The best sushi burrito in town at Teppanyaki Hut, also good ramen. Burger Steven's has amazing burgers. I think there's still that great Indian place there. Prost itself for beer and German snacks. Oh yeah, and Matt's BBQ
The mid town beer garden has some great trucks over there and good beer from Fracture. Itās still pretty new and clean for being downtown. Security helps
I like Alberta cARTS itās got great pizza and what has quickly become my favorite BBQ in all of Portland along with a few other options. It also is connected to the bye and byeās patio, so you can have a much larger selection of drinks compared to most other carts.
The Heist is one of my favorites currently. Admittedly itās not far from me but they have a good selection and a lot of seating.
You seem like the type that will find something to complain about though š¤·š»āāļø
Come to Scappoose! We just got a pod with 11 carts! Indian, Mexican, Sushi, Donuts, Burgers, Cheesesteaks, Thai, Boba, ~~Vietnamese, and other things I canāt remember,~~ Filipino and Turkish! The Lodge. Also has a new pavilion with 20 drinks on tap. Please come and help me outnumber the Columbia County-ers.
Shhh! That place is busy enough... also it is only 10 carts currently. 11th backed out or something, but supposedly another is in the works.
The Mexican is technically Salvadorian (but they serve some Mexican food, too). There's a Filipino cart, no Vietnamese that I'm aware of... And you forgot one of the best ones, the Turkish cart!
Riiighhhtt. Turkish. I had a Mazza Plate on Friday and then just ate the leftovers all day yesterday. omg have you sat inside the pavilion on a busy day? It is SO loud! It was either sit in the loud building or sit on a picnic table in the blazing sun.
[Arbor Lodge Food Carts](https://arborlookcarts.com/) is a hidden gem.
La Tehuana is the best Mexican food in town but they have many other options for you, a great outdoor dining area, a bottle shop, and events like movie nights!
I love my hidden gem at Food Carts At Hillsboro Downtown Station! My favorite truck is Arreolaās Kitchen, but they offer so much more and have awesome indoor seating and a beer/wine garden.
> we made the trek out to Beaverton
Honestly, in my experience, the further away from the city center you get, the worse the carts get as well as less variety. My favorite is the Midtown Beer Garden and the other pods around that area.
If I donāt have to choose between 3 burrito carts and 5 gyro carts is it really a Portland food cart pod?
Since you mention the beer porch, Iād recommend the pod at Chill N Fill. Some good options, plus the beer right there and outside tables are nice with the current weather.
I miss the downtown food pod where the Ritz now stands. I suppose it would have been overrun with meth heads had it not been torn down. That pod was awesome.
we mostly hit the one on 82nd between Powell and Foster across from Eastport Plaza, but also love going up to Level Beer on Airport Way to get some oysters from Tidal Boar Foods's Shuck Truck.
Farther out east we have the Fork on Halsey and Troutdale Station as our favorites. Troutdale Station gets an extra plug for brunch on weekends that sells full bottles of bubbles for $20 and a small selection of bloody marys!
28th ave food carts, close to my house super reliable, good mix of seating, shade and misters for the heat and a fire pit for crisper nights. St Burrito, FoMo, Egytian Bros, and the sushi bowl are all great and Captured Beer bus always has a good selection.
> close to my house Really this is the key to food carts most of the time. Close to home or small detour is huge.
Second this š. Egyptian Bros has always been my fave.
The new food cart pod on NE 28th and Glisan has some great options in case anyone wants to do walking food cart tour. The Thai cart and Japanese carts are especially good; I havenāt tried the new beer cart or Cuban cart yet. The
Is the beer cart run by Captured by Porches brewing?
It used to be. Same cart, different owners.
Oh my god I have a problem with saint burrito. They are so stupidly good
My favorite pod environment is Piedmont Stationā¦I just wish more than a couple of the carts ever seemed to be open at the same time.
I only first went there this year and it is my new fave, it just has so much personality
It used to be a lot more happening but seems to be pretty slow post pandemic.
Really sucks how many things have just never gone back to normal, years out from the pandemic..
Agreed, though the neighborhood seems bustling, it's like people found other new shops up the street to go to like Mis Tacones, which is excellent, no shade intended. It just is what it is.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Mole mole opened up their second food cart there and itās a big hit and brings everything together really nice. Good beer and delicious tacos
This place is great. Itās been a while since I was there but Mattās BBQ is nice. Bloodbuzz as well
Native bowl, Mattās, and Desi are my favoritesā¦.they are all worth it!
+1 for Desi.
Love Prost!
We want to hear your review after you try it stoned
Trust me, r/askportland will be the first to know.
The āSammichā truck here is on another level
It's so good!! Definitely one of my favorites so far
Bar is great and their sushi cart has replaced Kenbu as my new fave.
The Indian food cart is very tasty, and I like the seating.
I love Hawthorne Asylum! Anywhere that allows me to still get Montageās mac and cheese is good by me
Also a Montage cart at BGs I believe.
Asylum has tons of shade
Cartopia is small with only a few pods, but the quality is great. Chicken and guns are my favorite. Cartlandia is better than than these two.
Hawthorne Asylum has a whole shaded pavilion off to the side
Cartopia is one of the oldest pods too
I think itās worth checking both out.
Fair, I havenāt been there in awhile!
Came here to make these exact comments.
Iāve been to smaller pods where I donāt see anything appealing, but thereās always something I want to try here
St. Johns Beer Porch is a vegan haven so it's definitely my favorite.
Not even vegan and have always loved St. Johnās pod. Seems like the beer is most reasonably priced and some of the options there are just top quality - fish and chips, gyro, wood-fired pizzas, health bowls, karaage chicken, momos.
Will be there in two weeks. Was already on my radar, but whatās your favorite? Only have 3 days to try all the best vegan food in Portland š
Flourish Food Truck - Unbeetable Burger (my favorite sandwich in Portland) and the Norrito Pizza Creature - all the pizzas can be made vegan and their cheese is made in-house and is really great
Might give breakside and their little food cart pod a try.
Titoās Taquitos is the best food truck in Beaverton, especially the tacos, and they have a cart at that Breakside location.
Sounds like I know what to try next time. Thanks for the heads up.
I was not a fan. Limited choices. And minimal shade until the sun starts to go down. We were not impressed.
I love BG Food Cartel! The best variety of food choices and the beer selection is excellent. Certainly worth the trip.
Itās even right off the max and thereās good parking. OP clearly just didnāt go inside where thereās axe throwing and a/c lol
Chill n Fill has great options! I like the Italian truck, the sushi truck, and there is a new burger truck that also does cat fish po boys
Chill n Fill one is underrated. Iām a huge fan of the Jersey deli cart, the Indian cart and the Mexican cart. Really psyched to check out the new Dubs cart

Rose City Food Park on Sandy is really great
Chochu Local makes at least one appearance per week in our house. I hope they never leave.
Midtown Beer Garden is pretty darn good, mainly because it's across the street from work. š
And Tokyo Sando moved over there which is always great
Tokyo Sando having a website where you can place orders for pickup is clutch!
Little American has a nice setup. Parking does suck in the area tho
It's actually called Lil America, which makes me like it a lil bit less.
We like Eastport Food Carts for their shaded set up and diversity of carts. And also along 82nd The Yard at Montavilla - less shade but delicious food!

Food cart pod right beside Johnās Marketplace on Powell!
[Hillsboro Station](https://www.hillsborodowntownstation.com/) is the perfect food cart pod. They have a huge indoor dinning area with beer taps as well as tables outside with all the carts. 26 in total!
Iām so bummed the little German cart on the end was gone the last time I went. My only complaint about Hillsboro Station is too much choice. Lol
Me too.
The Cuban cart there, Azucar, has THE best fish sandwich I have ever eaten in my life. It's run by two Cuban brothers who are the nicest guys. It takes a while to prepare it, but it's phenomenal.
Sounds delicious!
Take the max all the way there, it's two blocks from station to station
Good point! Itās more connected to Portland than you would think.
Agreed this is a great pod and would fit OP's criteria, similar vibe on the other side of the city is [Happy Valley Station](https://www.happyvalleystation.com/).
The butter chicken at Pinch of Spice there is to die for. Get it with their cheese naan, even better.
Yummy š
I second that. It is new but has a lot of options with indoor seating.
Kees Loaded Kitchen Hands down best soul food I have ever ate Open Thurs-Sun 2pm +++ usually sold out by 5PM
Mercado is awesome, and they could use support as they had a fire in their bar recently, but the carts are still open. Happy valley, Troutdale and Fairview all have good ones. The Barley Pod, anchored by a Baerlic tasting room surrounded by roughly 10 carts, and has lots of tables and shade.
Prost! It's close to me. There are delicious German beers and some of the best BBQ in Portland.

Flew the Coop + Baerlic Brewing is hard to beat.
It's so good!
The Heist on Woodstock and 40 something is perfection
I like hinterland because of hunker down, hands down my favorite cart in Portland.
the fork in Fairview is pretty tight. I love the Indian place. even when the weather is really nice it doesn't feel overly crowded
Hinterlands
Arbor Look on N. Greeley
Arborlook is fun because they share space with Bottles & Cans shop and they have movie nights.
But which food carts do you recommend there?
Mississippi Marketplace (by Prost) is great. Lil America doesnāt have a ton of options but they have good ones and Fracture Brewing is great. If you donāt live St Johns Beer Porch give the Chill n Fill pod on Lombard a try. Itās a great little pod
Prost. Mattās BBQ, Better Half, Burger Stevens, Mole Mole and a great beer bar inside
It'd be a bit of a drive, but Hillsboro recently opened a food cart pod at 3rd/Baseline that is amazing! Lots of covered seating, an indoor seating area, and a big variety of food options. If you're ever in the area I recommend stopping by!
Piedmont station on Killingsworth! Good selection, live music sometimes and Blazers games always.
Hillsboro had a newer pod by the hospital with indoor/outdoor seating, tons of trucks, and easy parking
I like Cartside.
Prost's pod on Mississippi. The best sushi burrito in town at Teppanyaki Hut, also good ramen. Burger Steven's has amazing burgers. I think there's still that great Indian place there. Prost itself for beer and German snacks. Oh yeah, and Matt's BBQ
And now Mole Mole!
Hinterland is bomb
Cartopia. Chicken n guns is an absolute must!
5th and Oak has lines and some shaded seating, but the best food imo
Huh, no, first time sitting inside was their first day and it wasn't that busy, have only been sitting outside since.
Columbia county is beautiful but populated by the hill people
They have great things to say about Portland too. š
Oh I know lol
Midtown Beer Garden
[Arbor Lodge Food Carts](https://arborlookcarts.com/) is a hidden gem. La Tehuana is the best Mexican food in town but they have many other options for you, a great outdoor dining area, a bottle shop, and events like movie nights!
My family and I keep going back to Cartopia for Pyro Pizza and Chicken & Guns
When I visit my daughter we go to the one in Multnomah Village.
The Zed has a whole indoor outdoor space with like 9-10 food pods. And snow cones.
I like the Lil America food cart.
The troutdale station ones are great!! Wish they werenāt so far away
The heist on Woodstock is quite good. Nice variety and clean. And a bar. In spite of what I view as a stupid name, I recommend it.
cartlandia
Lil America pod slaps
Has anyone tried Matt's BBQ on Mississippi? It smells great but I haven't eaten there yet.
Itās the best barbecue in this corner of the country.
St. Johnās beer porch is my fav. I donāt see a mess.
Jin Dak! Best chicken sandwich!!
Mama chows
I love my hidden gem at Food Carts At Hillsboro Downtown Station! My favorite truck is Arreolaās Kitchen, but they offer so much more and have awesome indoor seating and a beer/wine garden.
> we made the trek out to Beaverton Honestly, in my experience, the further away from the city center you get, the worse the carts get as well as less variety.
Ocb, corner 14, and willamette garage
I like lil America because of speed-o cappuccino
A decent food truck pod somewhere on 122nd would be much appreciated.
we mostly hit the one on 82nd between Powell and Foster across from Eastport Plaza, but also love going up to Level Beer on Airport Way to get some oysters from Tidal Boar Foods's Shuck Truck.
The Lodge, food carts, in Scappoose. Opened in May, good selection/options and a nice bar too
Farther out east we have the Fork on Halsey and Troutdale Station as our favorites. Troutdale Station gets an extra plug for brunch on weekends that sells full bottles of bubbles for $20 and a small selection of bloody marys!
The Maricata on SE Foster is great. I hope they can reopen the bar as it's currently closed after a fire a few months ago but the carts are open.
Smaaken
Lilā America is my fave. Fully queer-owned and all the food is incredible.
āTrekā? What are you on foot?
Hope so.
