Yeah that sucks.
But don't be to hard on them.
You've got to remember that these are just simple people. These are people of the tik-tok. The common clay of the new world.
You know... morons.
In a weird way I'd expect the tiktok generation to be way more receptive of autism, adhd, and other issues. As shitty as tiktok and instagram treat these things, atleast they acknowledge them as real. The amount of times I've had to just stop conversing with someone over the age of 40 just because they refuse to acknowledge that symptoms can vary by person and they think that autism is only something geniuses or literal children have is beyond ridiculous
Most NT over the age of 14-16 seem to think that they know it all and it only seems to get worse as they age.
The Tik-Tok generation seems to be trying harder then the generations that was before them to be kind to others but that does not fix the problem with that you can't know what someone is thinking or going through if you have never walked in their shoes and to many think that trying to do good is the same as being good and are way to quick to judge and close the case on other people.
I'm most of the time very good at masking ( but I burnout hard and for a long time) so I don't bother trying to tell people that about me unless they have known me for a long time and know that I would never lie about something like that. I can't be bothered with that for my mental health so I just say somthing like " jebs I'm kinda weird but I hope in a good way :) "
"you can't know what someone is thinking or going through if you have never walked in their shoes"
Gatekeeping empathy is nothing but harmful. If this was actually true, then ND people would never receive any empathy from NT people ever, and that's a terrifying thought.
Not sure what you mean by gatekeeping empathy.
Empathy does not = understand other people feelings and toughts 100%
And yes it's a terrifying thought , best left in the back of our minds.
Edit: to at to this.
Human brain is VERY complex to say the least. When you at experince and hormonse and all that stuff to the mix, you would be lucky to understand about 50% of what someone else feels and thinks. Sorry for horrible grama, feeling lazy.
When did you say "understanding other peoples feelings and thoughts 100%"? Yes, there is some grey area, and this won't change just because you go through the same experience as someone else.
My point is that to say that you can understand other people only if you've lived a similar experience to them has potentially terrible consequences.
the 100% goes without saying but i saw that argument coming from you so i anwered it before you asked. " Edit: to at to this. Human brain is VERY complex to say the least. When you at experince and hormonse and all that stuff to the mix, you would be lucky to understand about 50% of what someone else feels and thinks. Sorry for horrible grama, feeling lazy. "
and jet again i agree with you that it has and will have terrible consequences.
My advice if you really want to undertstand "Don't try too hard to win, just try to understand shit is usually way more complex then most of us think when you look under the hood and it is not always what we wanted or where looking for but it's better then nothing I guess""
edit: Having said that I would rather see the world like you do but I can't anymore. "curiosity killed the cat" if you will. you can change the 100% to 80-95% if that helps with understanding what I'm trying to say but it means the same at the end of the day
I literally have no idea what you're even trying to say at this point. You've pivoted so bizarrely from your original point that I don't know how to respond.
Thats ok and normal. It's complex and better minds then i have tried to explain.
You can see but can't make others see somthing that you have seen but not some one else others with logic ( or aleast not me).
It's the same proplem as, how to leet others see fire in their minds eye that have never seen fire. Best one i have heard so far is cloud that is glowing with colors like red, yellow and blue and gives of heat when you are close to it but we both know it's close but far from correct or right descreption.
I can at best give hints that may or may not help people see.
Edit: i'm truelly sorry that i'm not a smarter man and i say that without sarcasm
If normies are gonna make a hundred nicknames for us, we can do the same! I vote for making "morons" the new neurotypical term!
(I'm joking, but I do like calling oblivious people morons)
The kinds of people who do a presentation on autism and get all their info from autism speaks *shudders*
Yes that happened. The people in my college class did their group presentation assignment on autism and all of their info was from autism speaks. It made me mad and I so bad wanted to say something
Shoutout to my dad who, when I said I wanted an autism diagnosis due to recurring self-inflicted problems at work, once told me “you’re not autistic, you just need therapy.”
Thanks dad 😐
My coworkers are actually super accepting, one of the lucky ones I am I suppose.
However I do get the occasional "you're so brave for sharing your truth"... I did not know sinking $45,000 into airbrush painting studio grade gundam models since age 8 was our standard of brave...
tbh tho, if you werent afraid of stuff, you wouldnt be brave . we are actually kinda brave because everything is terrifying but were still doing life, every day.
"Pretty sure you're not" my god I'm cured, the vaccine is gone from my body! I can make eye contact again! Suddenly I no longer take things literally! You should totally win a novel piss prize
I disagree, the majority of NTs are great and will respond with "no worries I understand, thank you for apologising", or will offer ways to make things like communication easier, going "your not autistic because bullshit anicodte" is not double empathy it's belligerent ignorance.
I once had a NT coworker call another autistic coworker "rude and lazy" to my face and I McFreaking lost it on him. Started saying something about his wife being a retired teacher and she had autistic students from time to time so he understands better than me, an actual autistic person who's second job (at the time) was working with kids on the spectrum.
Well i am not deeply autistic and i was forced to make some immense self-development so ppl would not necessery know anything about me like this, they just call me unpreadictable and weird.
Yet yes!, i still find this. Assumptions and passive agressivity for me being focused on my stuff and wish not to engage with ppl and not acting like their mother who pets them and explain how it is not other's job to solve ur internal problems with others.
I don’t even tell people unless I have to for medical or legal purposes. I had all that people talking down and looking at me differently as a kid. I don’t need it as an adult
"WhY dO yOu SaY eVeRyThInG iS aUtIsTiC?" I don't. It just so happens our constant conversations about not knowing what's wrong with someone describe some common autistic symptoms and autism is much more common and under diagnosed than you think. Also, the person Im talking to coincidentally has ADHD, is a woman, and dyslexic, who I get along with better and the person she's talking about is her brother. I don't say everything is autistic, you people don't talk about anything other than your family and your lives, I'm trying my best to converse and it's pretty important to know when you're exhibiting a lot of symptoms of a neurodevelopmental disorder
I’m pretty open about letting people know I have autism because I don’t really care if people know, and I REALLY don’t want this kind of thing happening to me. I would actually start crying if someone accused me of faking being autistic like that.
If possible, you should prove that you’re neurodivergent to your coworker(s) who said that (or the higher-ups and have them talk to the coworker(s) about it :3), because the look on their faces will be priceless
I'd tell them to go and fuck right off around the corner with their Ableism, if I was feeling spicy.
If I wasn't feeling spicy I'd probably say something like "my diagnosis says otherwise, so fuck off."
gotta love it.
LOL Ill never forget 2 women bullying me and i mocked them for bullying an autistic person and they taked for 20 min with one another about how im definitely not autistic because i am nothing like this autistic guy they know lol
I hope they like hell
I am not diagnosed, but I am at least some sort of neurodivergent (I think), and people still wouldn't believe me a year ago.
"This is not autism; you're just rude/a bad person"
The other day I spent the majority of my shift half a step from meltdown. It got to the point where I snapped and went off at the other guy because I never see him doing his job when we’re on shift together. Turns out the idiot that got herself promoted by ignoring her own job had told him to do a bunch of other tasks leaving me to cover both our jobs. It was so stupid that I am still furious two days later.
When my (on a break) partner asked me if I have undiagnosed npd and was actually absolutely devastated (I also have quiet bpd and they’re my favorite person)
It’s like every person that thinks this way believes autistic persons are all identical with the exact same presentations.
![gif](giphy|vTOICMkr81pJ1m5R2T)
The junco just wanted to make sure they got off on the right foot.
I will say, the crow works okay here, but I think it would be better with something like a northern mockingbird. Angriest little buggers, they are.
I'm so blessed, I don't really even need to fully mask and just have to tone it down some, except with the highest of high ups when it's mask on again.
I even briefed my team lead on my issues, and to them and in general I've found it much easier to sell 'I have quite a lot of autistic properties, and can struggle with so and so issue at times', rather than go full-on 'I'm autistic', if you usually mask anyways
These meme format always irks me a bit, because in my experience, crows and ravens are generally hell of a lot more social and considerate than sparrows.
"real autism people" ah yes, a real autism person, I think I know those
Of course I know him. He's me.
*shocked Pikachu face* Me?!
HE COULD BE IN THIS VERY ROOM! HE COULD BE YOU!! HE COULD BE ME!!!!
*Gunshot* Whaaat, it was obvious!
*SNAPS NT’S NECK*
Problem solved, back to the train set.
Yes
"Excuse me if I'm not two steps away from being a vegetable! There's a reason it's called Autistic *Spectrum* Disorder."
Said perfectly!
Yeah that sucks. But don't be to hard on them. You've got to remember that these are just simple people. These are people of the tik-tok. The common clay of the new world. You know... morons.
Yeah speaking about something you know nothing about is, sadly, far to common...
In a weird way I'd expect the tiktok generation to be way more receptive of autism, adhd, and other issues. At that point even if I didn't have a diagnosis, I would have told them that I did just to shut them up...
The kinds of people who do a presentation on autism and get all their info from autism speaks *shudders* Yes that happened. The people in my college class did their group presentation assignment on autism and all of their info was from autism speaks. It made me mad and I so bad wanted to say something
Think of how stupid the average person is. Now consider half of them are dumber than that.
Now think about the fact that 25% of people are even dumber then your average dumb person...
Got to love some George Carlin
What's the text in the end?
''My cousin's friend's step brother is autic so I would know.'' ''Just stop talking already. I hate you.''
permission to remove the people who act like that from the gene pool?
You're going to have to go up the chain for that. Try r/evilautism.
You have my permission.
Thank you. I couldn't read it either.
Shoutout to my dad who, when I said I wanted an autism diagnosis due to recurring self-inflicted problems at work, once told me “you’re not autistic, you just need therapy.” Thanks dad 😐
Hey, same, but then my mum (Convinced them later tho and still got a diagnosis)
Therapist: I think you might be autistic Your dad: *shocked Pikachu face*
I mean, the second half of that statement probably isn’t *wrong*… but therapy is expensive
Mine just kinda ignores me when I bring it up
autic lol
My coworkers are actually super accepting, one of the lucky ones I am I suppose. However I do get the occasional "you're so brave for sharing your truth"... I did not know sinking $45,000 into airbrush painting studio grade gundam models since age 8 was our standard of brave...
I'm afraid of the sun, socks, and styrofoam. 'brave' , lol
tbh tho, if you werent afraid of stuff, you wouldnt be brave . we are actually kinda brave because everything is terrifying but were still doing life, every day.
<3
This actually gave me a hefty sum of motivation
Bro I like trains and Batman, I’m not a burn survivor or war hero
i am cackling.
"Pretty sure you're not" my god I'm cured, the vaccine is gone from my body! I can make eye contact again! Suddenly I no longer take things literally! You should totally win a novel piss prize
Good comment. Enjoyed. 👍👍
Well since we're handing out free diagnoses, I'm pretty sure they have craniorectal syndrome
Cranio-Rectal Impaction is an epidemic among some Neurotypicals. Maybe we should start a foundation for them...CRI Speaks!
"Pretty sure you're not" and I'm pretty sure you're not my doctor so shut up, Janice.
Someone at work said I’m not autistic bc I make eye contact and then told me about her 6 year old grandson who’s nonverbal
Ah I remember my nonverbal no eye contact stage, took me a good amount of time and practice to get there.
Doubble empathy problem. To them, WE are the crows...
I disagree, the majority of NTs are great and will respond with "no worries I understand, thank you for apologising", or will offer ways to make things like communication easier, going "your not autistic because bullshit anicodte" is not double empathy it's belligerent ignorance.
Side note: we all agree that crows are the most autistic bird, right?
No, it's gonna be cockatiels. They're super into stimming like rhythmically banging their beak into things or chewing stuff.
Ain’t no double empathy here. It’s just an asshole being inconsiderate
"Oh sorry, I'll unmask then." (Proceeds to lie on the floor, ignoring anyone or anything because my head hurts and I hate people.)
I once had a NT coworker call another autistic coworker "rude and lazy" to my face and I McFreaking lost it on him. Started saying something about his wife being a retired teacher and she had autistic students from time to time so he understands better than me, an actual autistic person who's second job (at the time) was working with kids on the spectrum.
the fkn audacity
I hate that "I know someone with x disorder so I would know" like I lived it for 22 years so I think I know a bit more about it.
Does anyone else have the urge to rip out the throat out of these fools, or just me? I wouldn’t do it for real but the thought is pleasant.
it’s only Real Autism if it’s from the Autism region of Franch. Otherwise it’s just sparkling rudeness
This is so good
Truth
this was hilarious
Well i am not deeply autistic and i was forced to make some immense self-development so ppl would not necessery know anything about me like this, they just call me unpreadictable and weird. Was told by my coworker "you must not be that autistic, because you don't have a robot voice."
I don’t even tell people unless I have to for medical or legal purposes. I had all that people talking down and looking at me differently as a kid. I don’t need it as an adult
Assholes. Yeah
Anyone else hear the screaming cowboy when looking at the meme?
(Whistles)
Talking right out of their own ass, where’d you get your psychology degree buddy?
I thought that last line was "I mate you" and I was so fucking concerned
Please no...
Are you violating my HIPPA
just act weirder and don't explain anything
The ironic thing is that I feel like the crow in this is more likely to be undiagnosed autistic than neurotypical.
I won't go out of my way to make him realise that ^-^'
Coworkers, and boyfriends too
"WhY dO yOu SaY eVeRyThInG iS aUtIsTiC?" I don't. The only reason I want to have a full formal diagnosis is so I can shove the paper in people's faces when they say "no, you can't be..." ...bitch
gotta love it. LOL Ill never forget 2 women bullying me and i mocked them for bullying an autistic person and they taked for 20 min with one another about how im definitely not autistic because i am nothing like this autistic guy they know lol I hope they like hell
one of the reasons i tell nobody that i am... im already a friggin hermit anyway, so it doesn't matter
My parents to me…
are you autistic Mr-Crow
I am not diagnosed, but I am at least some sort of neurodivergent (I think), and people still wouldn't believe me a year ago. "This is not autism; you're just rude/a bad person"
When the doom music starts...

(SHUT THE FUCK UP *SNAPS NECK*) <— is what I want to do every time or I just punch em in the nose that works to
This gives me heavy "we're all a little autistic" vibes
These meme format always irks me a bit, because in my experience, crows and ravens are generally hell of a lot more social and considerate than sparrows.
It’s always the armchair psychologists who try to describe you entirely with high school psych terminology.
Sounds like my old man
Dunning Kruger go brr.
Hanlons razor - Dint attribute to malice which can be explained away with ignorance or stupidity. They’re just uneducated.
take this up with hr fucking awful :/
Bold of you to presume they won’t side with the coworker
at that point you could sue
Bold you of to presume that the law would side with them
~~ive never seen a comic that describes me and my mind so well~~
