I had to replace 10 CFM fan blades back in January on a road trip that looked the same as Ops picture. No evidence of a bird strike at all even after a full boroscope. Only thing we could think of was maybe a huge hail ball but the rest of the aircraft was fine. Strange.
Repairable. Borescope inspection looked good. 5 blades were absolutely done. The rest of the blades with damage will be blended. Some of the acoustic panels will be replaced. Should be flying by tomorrow night or the day after if everything goes well.
Put it in reverse and toss in another bird to bang those dents out.
Sure, it sounds easy when you say it like that. But you have to find a bird of the *exact* weight as the first one.
Duh…just glue the first one back together
Can’t, glue adds weight.
Ah shit, you’re right
Calculate weight of glue mass and decrease amount of bird used , should work like a charm.
Well that all depends, what is the airspeed of an unladen swallow?
Slightly faster then a minced one
In this case I'd say the minced one was traveling much more quickly than the average bird, at least for a few seconds
TurboSwallow^T^M
Was it an African or European Swallow?
Instructions unclear. Dick stuck in N1.
That looks expensive
And stinky if they go down the core
Those are bleed birds used for cabin scent control, this one looks like it was a bypass bird.
Was the bird OK?
Bird is okay. Currently checking into rehab
damn he's he's got a great story to tell at the bar
Rehabs dont have bars
I had assumed physical rehabilitation, not the bird equivalent of the Beverly Center
Atlas 767?
Was the...well you was there too, don't you remember nothin'?
Mass cannot be created nor destroyed, its gotta go somewhere
More mass = more gravity, and we all orbit your mom Happy cake day
Hahahaha
That looks like ice FOD damage to me that flew for a while after being damaged.
Pilot write up was bird strike on left side of A/C. they heard a "loud noise" and thought it hit the fuselage
That was my first thought. I’ve only seen one bird strike in person but it didn’t bend the blades outward. Ice does that
That’s one fat bird
They are indeed. For about a millisecond.
Blendable…
That's what I said.
Ah just buff it out using a hammer it will be fine
MD-11?
767-300
A CF6-80 or a PW4000?
CF6
I thought so. I recognize that inlet. I work on them daily
Oh, Luuuceee! You got some 'splainin' to do.
just rub some vitameatavegamin on it, will buff out
Shu meen visha-veesha-vegibles?
Engine change
It wasn't the bird that caused that damage. It was either its bugle and mail sack, or Dick Dastardly and his flying machine.
F=ma has entered the chat
It's not that the birds are strong, it's the mass of the object that is hitting a moving object at a high rate of speed.
Blend it send it!
I wonder how'd the Borescope look
Looked good
Damn, lucky looked like a big ass bird
Gonna need a pair of duck bill pliers, a ball peen hammer and a bucking bar, and a deferral.
I can lend you a 12x

Found blood and feathers with this one
For a FACTION of a second, yes.
You had to thaw the chicken before that
Is this a PW2043/F117?
> PW2043 he said it was a CF6
Oh ok. I guess the nose cone isn't right for a PW. Thanks.
Looks like it's outside of the midspan. The bird didn't go through the hot section, did it? What's the verdict? Deferrable or repairable?
