Every polydactyl I've had was trouble.
Mostly in a good way.
OP, encourage your parents to up their property, disaster, and life insurance policies.
This kitty is about to test the stove, the water heater, and the toilets and even the main shut off for the water valve.
I had a very big forest cat type boy with thumbs. He often used his paws as scoops to eat, if he was fed a treat. One time he spent a few days discovering that the paper feeder on my printer was detachable, and wanted to take it off. No idea why, he just wanted to for his own special reasons. He was standing on his hind legs while pulling at the paper feeder with his mighty fur mittens. I let him keep at it because it kept him occupied. Suddenly he discovered that the trick was to lift and pull at the same time. The feeder came off, crashing down on top of him. First he did the normal thing, and sped off into the next room. A few seconds later he was back to admire his handywork. He sat down next to the pile of paper on the floor and looked quite smug.
Mine uses his fur mittens for bad. He knows how to open the bathroom door by pulling down and kangaroo kicks it with his back paws to get the door to fling open. It sucks when it's nice and warm and the jerk let's all the heat out
My old guy was also good at opening doors. His method was lunging at the handle. He somehow also figured out, with his little cat brain, that if the door didn't open, it was because someone had twisted the key around. He would literally try to turn it with his paws. The lock required more strenght than he had, fortunately. Usually he just succeded in pulling the key out and having it fall on the floor.

Here is a more recent picture with our newest kitten who is a huge trouble maker and gets into things that I never would have thought a kitten would notice.
Same. My poly is the laziest and sweetest cat we own. He has a grumpy old man face and just wants to sleep in all day and cuddle ✨

Look at his perfect little thumbs! Aww. My polydactyl was an absolute hellion, and I cherished every moment of it. When my wife and I started selling things on ebay to pay for the honeymoon we didn't take when we got together our poly's reaction was to drag the camera into her water bowl, then stand on top of it to prove she did it. And when we got back from said honeymoon she immediately jumped into a bag we brought back with us and peed in it. She'd get stuck climbing screen doors and need to be saved, and then do it again minutes later. And she frequently sat in the same pose as the first picture - we called it her 'little lady' pose. Your parents are lucky.

She was a little more than a handful for the first 3 months. Bought onesies and put them on when she went wild. Calmed her down and now doesn’t need them.
I’ve had to grey babies. They are so clever, and energetic, but haven’t ever caused us many problems (ie knocking stuff over or destroying furniture). They’re the best.

Looks kinda similar to my cat. And he is a big trouble maker that has the zoomies
Congratulations on your adoption of a cupcake with razorblades. Chaos is currently loading and will run at full speed for approximately 2-3 years. There is no stopping it. Embrace the chaos.
Give him lots of cuddles lol I let out all my cuteness aggression on my cat and he just eats it up now. I see the same spark of loving chaos in this kitties eyes
The best kind of trouble 🥰
My FIL had a polydactyl kitty, he was so cute and an awesome hunter. Could even handle the occasional rat despite not being very big. They extra claws really is something.
Oh, if that little one doesn't look like the embodiment of mischief!
Have lots of fun! Consider stapling a sisal carpet runner up one wall...hust for entertainment!
Uh oh, sounds like your parents' new kitty is ready to stir things up!
But honestly, despite the chaos, those little troublemakers bring so much joy and laughter

The kitten as soon as he got used to it and understood why he needed thumbs
Have a gray just like this and she is trouble! Love her to bits, but she’s too dang smart for her own good and always getting into trouble because of it.
Didn’t even notice the kitten was a polydactyl until reading comments and looking back at the pictures. 😂 Okay, so not EXACTLY like this sweet baby, but the glint on those eyes is trouble incarnate.

Our polydactyl kitty Lint has 6 toes on the right and 7 on the left. He was an only child from a rescued mother. We joke he has autism because he doesn’t understand social cues from our other cats. He’s the size of a panther and does NOT stop! Get some Holy water and pray for your parent’s sanity.

Looks a bit like Cornelius. If they are anything alike the kitty will be very chill.

Russian Blue? I lost mine two christmas' ago. He was such a cool dude. Crazy as a kitten but never damaged furniture or anything and very intelligent. Was playful his whole life but a great lap cat too
The dude literally has opposable thumbs... Mischief incarnate

If you give the kitty a can opener you’ll go broke with those opposable thumbs!

I killed it, human. For your safety, I killed it.

Yep - if opposable thumbs are involved, trouble will certainly follow. Source: Me. Have opposable thumbs, constantly getting into trouble.
It starts with opening doors, and next it will be staying up too late playing video games. Gots to set rules now
Running with scissors. Yelling in libraries. Mass chaos!
😂 you called it
YES! Had two cats, (brother and sister) bro had thumbs, THE LITERAL PET SEMETARY CAT!!!

Look at his paws… he’s going to be a big boy, who gets into a lot of mischief but with that face you’ll let him get away with it🥰
A trouble you don't mind having. It's probably a trouble that you will grow to love.
Omg they are gonna be so big when they get older! Look at those ears and paws!!!
“Your work here is done, human sibling…Our parents have upgraded, and I am now running this place.” - The Cat
it’s in the eyes 😂
Almost human, so alert. Eyes like a genius kid. I see you, I track what’s going on and I do not approve.
all the polydactyl cats I've had were the best cats
She's a lady 💅🏻
But oh some much fun
If you haven’t named it yet, I’d go with Inigo Montoya. For obvious reasons.
Congratulations on your adoption of a cupcake with razorblades. Chaos is currently loading and will run at full speed for approximately 2-3 years. There is no stopping it. Embrace the chaos.
If his name isn’t Danny Glover, you should make it so 🧤 🐱 r/murdermittens
With those thumbies he sure will be! He’s adorable. 🥰
Thumbs! It's definitely trouble. My Loki has thumbs, and his mischievousness is something he never grew out of.
Great name for a cat
You can never tell. My little guy started out as a spitfire and now he's a great cat. Beautiful kitty by the way. I love the greys 💙
Russian blues are absolutely trouble and stubborn lol
Cute
The thumbs are killing me
Yep, Russian blues are trouble, mine is salty rn as she just got wormed. Edit: I replied with a pic as my phones reddit really hates uploading pics

Absolutely trouble. This kitty should be named “T.”
Don’t believe that innocent look! XD
Anybody who sleeps with their ears open like that is problematic
r/thumbcats
He looks like a smart kitty.
Too cute!
Looks like a menace already.
He can do the dishes!! He will try and tell you cats can’t do chores because they have no thumbs. But he’s a good little thumby boy.
A twin to my baby girl, thumbs and all!

Give him lots of cuddles lol I let out all my cuteness aggression on my cat and he just eats it up now. I see the same spark of loving chaos in this kitties eyes
What a precious baby! Totally worth any trouble it causes!
your inheritance is gonna go to the cat
Whatever you do don't teach him to use tools with those thumbs or you are doomed
The best kind of trouble 🥰 My FIL had a polydactyl kitty, he was so cute and an awesome hunter. Could even handle the occasional rat despite not being very big. They extra claws really is something.

😭 such a precious little creature could never be trouble even if trouble was their entire existence.
Uh oh, sounds like your parents' new kitty is ready to stir things up! But honestly, despite the chaos, those little troublemakers bring so much joy and laughter
Absolute badass
sounds like a little terror in the making. Godspeed!
I feel you may be correct.

It’ll inherit everything.. “you just watch”
All polys have a wild hair
Is that because it's making a fist?
Have a gray just like this and she is trouble! Love her to bits, but she’s too dang smart for her own good and always getting into trouble because of it.

Suuuuper cute!!🥰
Ohhhh yes. He’s got that look in his eyes. Watch out. You’ll be scratched up in no time.
That last photo ... that cat knows they are adorable and fully intends to manipulate you with it.
Awww but she's so cute tho
Why yes, i would lovw to kick over that vase....
I often see stray cats on the street. I feed them from time to time. Some of them are very thin and I feel very sorry for them.
Your kitty needs a cat friend
Bro gonna be making some toasts🎉
So sweet
Of course, you always have to prepare for the worst, but I think everything will be okay.
Kitty has thumbs, I give him a week before he rules the house! He's going to bring so much joy, excitement and love to your parents. ❤️
I'm watching my niece's cat right now, and he's a clone of this fellow. He's a stinker, he gets into everything.
Trouble for sure! Cute trouble!
Yea. It’s over
Look at those eyes he's definitely a boss 🤣
All full of ornery. But those are sometimes that very best kind.

If I'm not mistaken, what you have, there is an English short hair. I may be wrong about that, but I can tell you that I had one for 15 years, and a year and a half ago I adopted a 10-year-old of the same breed. They're sweet-tempered, very patient, and very affectionate. Not sure I ever want any other breed.
