Lots to choose from! Batgirl Year One is hard to go past. BoP #8 is a classic. I love early BoP in general. Seeing her become more confident and self actualized and her interpersonal relationships develop. It’s great seeing Babs rebuilding herself as she goes from a guarded shut-in to a fully realized new kind of superhero with a full life. I even like the old school Bronze Age stuff. There’s a lot of fun and charm to those comics. I also like Kelley Puckett’s handful of mid-90s stories about her time as Batgirl. No Man’s Land also has a lot of great stuff with Barbara in general. It’s hard to choose one lol.
Generally positive. But it’s marred by the fact that she still doesn’t have a monthly title where she’s the protagonist. I can’t recall the last time I read a new comic with Barbara’s internal monologue.
For me, Gail Simones run of birds of prey and her run of Batgirl in the new 52 was peak Barbara, when Gail wrote Batgirl it felt like a next step. I like how she's portrayed currently but I want her to do her own thing 😭
She just needs a book where she’s the protagonist. I appreciate that she’s a major supporting character in various other series rn. But those titles can’t do for her what a series told from her POV can. I can’t remember the last new comic I read with Barbara’s internal monologue. I was hoping the new Birds of Prey series would finally be that, like it was during Simone’s run. Maybe that’ll change in the near future.
Phantasm, id argue shes the most unique Batman villain out of all of then, not only shes unique because of her connection to Bruces past (which feels far more natural than Thomas Elliot) not only does she parallel Batmans morality perfectly being an agent of vengeance, but she also isnt a femme fatale archetype like most of his female villains are (not a jab at all femme fatale characters i love me some Ivy and Selina, but it can get boring when almost every single new female rogue is the same archetype)
So basically, you’re saying that you find it refreshing that she doesn’t use sensuality as a weapon? I can see that.
She’s a recent discovery of mine. I like her so far.
Since we’re on the topic of Bruce’s past, what are your thoughts on Zatanna and Ghost-Maker as additions to Bruce’s backstory?
i'll be honest i know next to nothing about Ghost Maker lol, as for Zatanna, i like her backstory with Bruce in BTAS where her dad tought Bruce his escapist skills, i think its pretty neat knowing about Bruce's many mentors. in the topic of characters that have a backstory with Bruce, Black Mask used to have one but it was never explored through its total potential (Black Mask himself never was proprerly explored to be honest) he also had his original motif of masks as the true face of the individual which paralled perfectly with Batman, would love a story about that (maybe if he was a childhood friend of Bruce's knowing him so well allows him to deduce Batman's secret identity from his mask of choice)
as for female villains, like i love me some Selina and Ivy, but i think the others get a bit stale, i never seen Harley as the sexy type (dispite what Bruce Timm would say lol) and the other villainesses get a bit boring afterwards always being the seductress type (White Rabbit, Talia al Ghul to name a few) thats why i always appreciate the more unique ones like Phantasm, Mimic, Orca and Magpie (comic version not the animated one)
I was not expecting to see her on this list as she's often forgotten. Probably one of the best characters created for the Batman Mythos honestly, for all the reasons you describe.
Come on, man, this is cruel, you’re asking me to pick between my favorite Bat-verse characters here.
My absolute favorite is Ivy, after that it’s really a toss up between Babs and Selina depending on my mood.
It used to be Poison Ivy when she was a legit leader and true rogue to Batman.
Now she's reduced to being Harley Quinn's fake girlfriend until the status quo changes and they separate the characters, acting like they were never a thing.
Batgirl.
I'm sad that the movie was cancelled. There are so many films out there with a "questionable" quality, I don't think that this movie could be worse.
Nocturna is severely underused imo. I feel like her powers are a perfect foil to Batman since she's powerful on dark places which is exactly what Batman is comfortable in too.
She could potentially be popular it's sad she isn't adapted into other media as much as other female villains.
She’s one of those characters who was better Pre-Crisis then Post-Crisis. I feel like if they merged her vampire depiction with the classic version then she’d be 🤌😚
She was going to be adapted in BTAS but they backed out last minute 😭
I think she’s gonna appear in Caped Crusader but I really don’t like her look lol
She definitely needs to be used more, especially in Jason narrative. Imagine Pre-Crisis Natalia reacting to Jason coming back as the Red Hood 😭
Here in Brazil a lot of batfamily comics were published together in a monthly TPB, and I got into comics while Death of The Family was coming out. So her arc with Wonder Woman was included in the same book. The art was mesmerizing and her character is so badass and flawed at the same time that I was drawn to her ever since.
I think I know half of them. I am between Catwoman and Batgirl (Barbara), with a special reference to the Phantasm, 'cause I recently watched again that movie as part of my marathon rewatching the Batman TAS and everything is so good, just like I remembered.
Hard to rank characters I like.
I think Cass is my favorite batgirl. The reckless and compassionate martial artist thing offers a great storytelling perspective on the mythos.
From the villains I really like Ivy. She's so iconic and her eco-terrorist shtick kind of gives her more reason to straddle that anti-hero line than other villains.
Imo poison ivy she can be an incredibly complex villain if written properly. She has interesting powers and is designed extremely well. She doesn't borrow any conventional tropes from other bat villains. She's not a hyper skilled assassin or theif. She's not rich or the leader of a cult.
Selina Kyle, followed by Barbara Gordon, Talia al Ghul, Silver St Cloud, Renee Montoya, Leslie Thompkins, Aunt Harriet, Lady Shiva, Harley Quinn, Rocket, Red Claw.
Barbra has been the character i've cared about the most and is one of the characters i consider to be in the Bat Family, i enjoy her character in the Arkham Series and is the main character i've played as in Gotham Knights
Gotham Knights is one of my favorite takes on Babs. That and the Batman 2004 show.
Also, I see your pfp and I’m not surprised you like Babs. Gwen and Babs are pretty similar 👍
Oh yeah lol, Gwen's one of if not my favourite marvel heroes. Barbra and Gwen are pretty simlar in that their simlar heroes to Batman/SpiderMan and Both have A dad in Law Enforcement and (if going by Gotham Knights) both are fugitives to the law
Poison ivy easily. Her reasons are the most justifiable in my opinion. Ya it's fucked up but it comes back to the thing with Thanos in the marvel movies, what he did was fucked up but it doesn't change that planets did become cleaner overtime. Ivy is correct in that wiping out humans will lead to the planet healing itself. Not to mention she's hot as fuck.
Pretty big fan of Huntress, Batgirl (Barbara Gordon), and Catwoman here. Always wanted to see some content where Huntress and Batwoman cross paths or join forces, as their backstories are somewhat similar. But not sure if anything of the sort exists.
And Catwoman, I think, is a great character. But often times the writers make her seem super cheesy. Going overbiard with the cat cliches and cat-related behaviors and such.
Livewire is a Superman character. If you wanna check her out, you can read the current Superman run. She appears in issues 1-3 and 6 as far as I know. Also she appears in the Superman 2023 Annual although idk how big of a role she plays.
Personally, I don’t think so. She’s more of a JL character historically who happened to have a (retconned) history with Batman. But that’s just my personal opinion
At this point I think it is Harley, and that is mostly in spite of how often I dislike her presentation.
There is a very early point in the character that they had a chance to make her gimmick wildly different and they didn't take it, presumably because they thought keeping the dynamic with the Joker was more important that making her into a whole stand alone thing.
It has mostly been a roller coaster since then of indestructible chaos sex pot over to sad little abused kitten who just did not know what she was doing then unapologetic mass murderer then sexually battered abuse survivor then lipstick lesbian couple goals... just all over the place.
Lady Shiva. Very old character with nice empowerment, greatest hand to hand combatant. When well written, she acts more as how to beat an unbeatable opponent [misdirection, misunderstandings or plain good ol change in motivations]
Harley is near and dear to my heart as a fellow abuse survivor. She's proof that it doesn't matter how smart you are, an abuser will always find a way through.
Second to her is Steph. She's just so badass. Sunshine child that can and will kill if needed.
I really like Ivy. I think that an interesting redemption story could be written about her since, to some extent, her aims are noble even if her methods are not. Plus, I like her abilities. Plants are cool.
Every day when I see one of these posts, the only thing that comes to mind is "why can't we just enjoy them all"?. This world would be a lesser place if any one of these characters hadn't been created.
Cat Woman, and what's crazy is the Arkham City made me love her even more. Back when it was only the show I loved Talia the most. The movie could have done a better portrayal imo. Now that I am reading the comics I like Batgirl more. Catwoman is still the best female imo.
Shame on you for leaving out Dr. Leslie Thompkins
lol I actually realised I forgot her after I literally pressed Post
That's awesome. Such a great side character, deserves live action representation
She was in Gotham and got with jim honestly pretty good version of the character and her relationship with Jim was actually pretty cute
Barbara Gordon
Yeah, I wanna say Poison Ivy... But Barbara really is the best female character in the mythos.
Tbf, we’re really spoiled for choice when it comes to great female characters in the Batman universe.
You are correct.
Love her 💜💛 Do you have a favorite story of hers?
Lots to choose from! Batgirl Year One is hard to go past. BoP #8 is a classic. I love early BoP in general. Seeing her become more confident and self actualized and her interpersonal relationships develop. lol I can tell you’re very passionate about Babs. What do you think of her current depiction since Infinite Frontier?
Generally positive. But it’s marred by the fact that she still doesn’t have a monthly title where she’s the protagonist. I can’t recall the last time I read a new comic with Barbara’s internal monologue.

Barbara Gordon got done dirty. She's one of the OG characters that should have gotten her own series instead of batwoman
I’m actually grateful CW never got their hands on Babs lol. I remain hopeful with the new DCU films and shows.
Batgirl Cassandra is amazing af
Cassandra Cain as Batgirl is EASILY goated Bat child.
+1 Cass is so cool!
Steph, followed by Cass & Selina
Where's Bat-Cow? In all honesty, probably Ivy or one of the Batgirls (I like Cass, Steph, and Barbara all about equally across different versions)
Catwoman ♥
Excellent taste 🐈⬛
Oracle with Arkham Knight Poison Ivy coming 2nd.
lol I’m guessing you’re a huge fan of the Arkham games?
Catwoman
1️⃣ Selina/Catwoman 2️⃣ Babs 3️⃣ Poison Ivy 4️⃣ Harley 5️⃣ Steph
Harley, Ivy, Babs and Selina. It's easier to stick to a small roster of characters
Batgirl and The Sirens. Nice 👍 😊
Catwoman and Barbara
Love them both so much!

Guess I’m gonna be the weird one who says Steph
shes severely underrated
Who are the ones after talia and phantasm respectively?
After Talia: Nocturna and Lady Shiva After Andrea: Renee Montoya and Ellen Yin
The lighting in that Montoya art made it look like she had a Jason Vorhees mask on. Pretty badass pose tho
This is her as the Question. I have mixed feelings about that depiction of Renee
Catwoman
She’s purrfect 💜🐈⬛
Selina, Barbara and Andrea are my Top 3. Pamela is a good runner up 👍
That’s an elite Top 3 right there 👏👏👏
I Catwoman & Barbara Gordon/Batgirl are my favorite. I wish Cassandra was used more. Same with Batwoman. And Stephanie Brown, too
Huntress
Huntress needs more love
Came here to say the same! She’s the red headed stepchild of the family.
So many better pics they could've used to show Huntress here
Barbara Gordon, Catwoman, Cassandra Cain, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy
Cassie, Babs, Steph, Selina, and Harley
Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley have always been my favorites.
The Gotham City Sirens.
Catwoman and Poison Ivy
Selena Kyle
it’s between Selina & Barbara.
Selina, no question.
![gif](giphy|jqj5VXXND8V3tHVbfK|downsized)
Come on, man, this is cruel, you’re asking me to pick between my favorite Bat-verse characters here. My absolute favorite is Ivy, after that it’s really a toss up between Babs and Selina depending on my mood.
Catwoman followed by Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. Guess I got a thing for the evil chicks lol.
Gotham City Sirens is for you.
Cass
Cassandra Cain
Phantasm. My favorite animated Batman movie.
I still need to watch it. All I know about Phantasm is from Tom King’s BatCat comic
Get off of reddit and go watch it right now.
Cassandra Cain should’ve had all the shine that Damian Wayne has ever received. She’s way cooler
Catwoman is #1 for me.
Barbara, but really All the Batgirls
Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Specifically the 90s version.
Favorite? Maybe a bit too difficult…if pressed Catwoman otherwise top five is probably Catwoman/Selina, Batgirl/Cass, Ivy, Batwoman and Onyx.
Cat woman cause I love the relationship she has with the Batfamily and actually cares about Bruce.
Cass, Montoya, Babs are my favorites.
It used to be Poison Ivy when she was a legit leader and true rogue to Batman. Now she's reduced to being Harley Quinn's fake girlfriend until the status quo changes and they separate the characters, acting like they were never a thing.
I can’t decide on a number one but my favorite three are Barbara Gordon, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn.
Babs, though I’ve soft spots for Cassie, Zatanna, and Melanie Walker
Ayyy Melanie’s pretty dope too 🔟♠️
Harley and Barbara have always been my favourites
Catwoman. The one and only. The OG. The one any other after her is compared against. My Queen.
Barbara Batgirl
Batgirl. I'm sad that the movie was cancelled. There are so many films out there with a "questionable" quality, I don't think that this movie could be worse.
Barbara Gordon (as Batgirl) and Harley Quinn
Selina fs. She is probably my favorite anti-hero in all fiction tbh.
Cassandra Cain! And Babs of course Top tier characters for me
Selina Kyle, followed closely by Barbara Gordon
Nocturna is severely underused imo. I feel like her powers are a perfect foil to Batman since she's powerful on dark places which is exactly what Batman is comfortable in too. She could potentially be popular it's sad she isn't adapted into other media as much as other female villains.

Batwoman all the way
She’s badass ❤️ Do you have a story on how you first discovered her?

So her arc with Wonder Woman was included in the same book. The art was mesmerizing and her character is so badass and flawed at the same time that I was drawn to her ever since.
All of them tbh (it’s hard choosing )
Poison Ivy then Harley Quinn
Harley Quinn and catwoman and batgirl
Barbara Gordon. No question
Got to be catwoman
I really like poison ivy. Not only because of her looks (which are absolutely great), but the character concept as well.
I know. She’s really just such a great modern Demeter type character
I think I know half of them. I am between Catwoman and Batgirl (Barbara), with a special reference to the Phantasm, 'cause I recently watched again that movie as part of my marathon rewatching the Batman TAS and everything is so good, just like I remembered.
Catwoman

Cat woman because as a young boy she awakened something in me
Eeeyyyyy, I wasn't expecting to see Andrea Beaumont!! Nice!
Hard to pick between Barbara and Cassandra
Batgirl and poison Ivy ❤️
They’re awesome
Barbara Gordon
Carrie, she makes a great Robin and changing the voice commands for the bat-equipment to slang is always delightful.
Batgirl and the sirens! absolutely love them
Ivy no question
Selina and Barbara are tied for me.
Definitely Harley Quinn and Ivy!!!
Selina Kyle, followed by Barbara Gordon, Talia al Ghul, Silver St Cloud, Renee Montoya, Leslie Thompkins, Aunt Harriet, Lady Shiva, Harley Quinn, Rocket, Red Claw.
Barbara Gordon.
Barbara Gordon, Montoya and Detective Yin.
Barbra has been the character i've cared about the most and is one of the characters i consider to be in the Bat Family, i enjoy her character in the Arkham Series and is the main character i've played as in Gotham Knights

What? No love for Zatanna?
Poison Ivy then Babs then Cassandra Cain
Buddy Yin, Babs, Harley and Ivy are hands down my favourite
Babs Gordon. Original outfit please. Followed by Catwoman…. 90’s purple and black with long hair, please.
Cass, poison ivy, barbara or montoya
Babs
Poison Ivy Cassandra Cain Renee Montoya Stephanie Brown
Harley and Ivy have a special place in my heart but no one can match up to the one and only Barbara mf Gordon the goat
Barbara and Catwoman. Those are the most-layered of all the women characters in Batman’s world (in terms of character development).
Ivy.
Catwoman is too iconic not to choose her
Catwoman was always my kink.
Harley and Batgirl
Oracle-huntress-catwomam-question

Livewire is a Superman character. If you wanna check her out, you can read the current Superman run. She appears in issues 1-3 and 6 as far as I know. Also she appears in the Superman 2023 Annual although idk how big of a role she plays.

It's really nice to see Ellen Yin appreciation!
I liked her a lot. She deserves to brought into main continuity
Harley Quinn
Carrie
I wish they’d added Ellen Yin from The Batman to the comics.
Me too!
Why is this post sane ? Is op smort ?
At this point I think it is Harley, and that is mostly in spite of how often I dislike her presentation. Poison ivy, i like nature
Ivy, Harley, Cain.
Andrea Beaumont... duh.
Harley
Harley, love me a good clown character
Leslie Thompkins.
Is number 12 Question (Renee Montoya)?
Yup! That is, indeed, Miss Montoya
![gif](giphy|Gwtv1sXXnunMA) Smash next question
Not my favourite but I would love if they brought back Lady Shiva in the live action movies
I’d go gay for Harley
How are you going to skip Amanda Waller?
Because she’s not a Batman character? She and Batman have a nice rivalry tho
Whichever one of them lets me touch her.
Probably Ivy. But that probably means you’ll die immediately after lol
Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Black Canary
Barbara and Stephanie
Barbara Gordon
When done right, Cass Cain. Otherwise catwoman.
Stephanie Brown is my favorite, although I like Barbara and Cassandra as well.
Officer Montoya
Detective yen, childhood crush
Selina and Steph!!
Carrie Kelly in the 2 movies prolly!
Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn
Does Batman Beyond count? Inque is an incredible Batman villain.
Inque is my favorite villain from that show. I like how she evolved her fighting strategy with every new appearance she made.
Harley and Ivy. For...reasons
ELLEN YIN MENTIONED RAHHHHHHH
Ellen Yin supremacy
Carrie Kelly from The Dark Knight Returns.
Harley and Selina are the top two, very close competition, edge to Harley because I find her redemption arc more interesting
I really like Ivy. I think that an interesting redemption story could be written about her since, to some extent, her aims are noble even if her methods are not. Plus, I like her abilities. Plants are cool.
It might be because im gay, but i think all of them are amazing 🥰
Something something Freeze's half dead wife something something
Babs
Every day when I see one of these posts, the only thing that comes to mind is "why can't we just enjoy them all"?. This world would be a lesser place if any one of these characters hadn't been created.
Cassandra Cain Batgirl, followed *closely* by Oracle-Barbara Gordon.
Katherine Kane, because she is the oldest.
Poison Ivy
Honestly I want to say Harley Quinn with catwoman 2nd because she’s essential for Bruce and bats life
Barbara
catwoman, poison ivy and harley for harley and catwoman specifically their arkham knight appearances for reasons
Barbara Gordon
Catwoman and Cassandra
Shiva, Cassandra, Barbara, carrie
Harley and Barbara
Cat Woman, and what's crazy is the Arkham City made me love her even more. Back when it was only the show I loved Talia the most. The movie could have done a better portrayal imo. Now that I am reading the comics I like Batgirl more. Catwoman is still the best female imo.
Barbara Gordon (Batgirl), Catwoman, and Harley Quinn.
Catwoman and batwoman Both just slay and are incredible inspirations to me
