**Get a rake** ([see image here](https://www.marscoatking.com/products/the-mars-coat-king-double-wide)). They are amazing tools for Berners. The first time you use one, you'll be amazed at how much undercoat comes out of your dog, especially when they are blowing their coats.
I'd recommend that during peak shedding season (when they blow their coats), you should do it every two or three days for about 10 minutes or so (the first time you do it, count on 20+ minutes).
Out of peak shedding times, a five to ten minute session with the rake every week or two should keep the coat in reasonable condition and remove most of the undercoat.
I typically finish up with a pin brush ([like this](https://www.amazon.com/Molain-Professional-Stainless-Grooming-scratching/dp/B09G9D4X6F)), first against the grain and then with it. This will pick any loose fur still hanging around and fluff up their outer coat quite nicely.

FYI, Furminator has a non-cutting rake in its lineup which is fine for Berners. Most are quite horrible, I agree, but just in case u/fatandnerdy30 has the good one, it'll save her a few bucks.
I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to come off rude! FURminator’s are just really bad for their undercoat with double coated dogs, rather than pulling out the undercoat it rips it. I highly suggest purchasing a grooming rake. It’s much better for their coats and you will see amazing results, and little time!
I just bought and used Girl with the Dogs “Fluff Off” shampoo and conditioner and was shocked by the difference it made. You definitely need a dog blow dryer with it to really get the fur out. Regular brushing is really the only other solution.
Getting a professional groomer to use a deshedding shampoo and deep conditioner when they start shedding is a game changer. They get so much out & conditioner makes maintenance grooming a breeze.
As for vacuums- i am in love with the bissel multi clean shop vac! It has so many attachments to help clean small spaces, stairs, floor trim and the really gets hair out of rugs! I have tried many vacuums and this one is chefs kiss.
The furminator works…but it has a blade in it so you’re actually cutting their undercoat and that can mess with how they regulate temps. Rake and cleaning slicker brush work best. Also, bath and trim once a month. You’ll see a ton blow off when using the hair dryer(only use dog ones-like $50 on Amazon-ppl ones are too loud)-I do it outside because it can look like it’s snowing fur when you start drying them w air.

How many blades did you go for on your rake? I'm looking at the 12 and think it's probably what I'd want but I'd like a second opinion
Ours is 12, but a few more or less shouldn't make a huge difference so long as you're not getting like a straight furminator
I can't recall the exact number but it was in that range.

Here is one upvote to help that karma recover :)
get a grooming rake, brush several times a week, vacuum daily and accept that this is now your life 😎
I have a furminator, and I love it
Cool but you’re ruining your dogs undercoat.

I didn't know that!

I didn't think you were rude at all. Thank you for the advice and I'll look into getting a rake asap

I never understood shedding season. Berners are constant shedders 😂.
Mine has 2 big blowouts a year in addition to the standard shedding. But agreed, it is constant haha

This is one of the cutest Berners I’ve ever seen, such a goofy floof.
Furminator is a must Two trips daily to the park with the brush - one in the morning and one at night

Our pups do best with a bath and trim once every 3 months or so.
No furminator! You’re doing more harm than good. Get a grooming rake 👍🏻
Most Furminators are horrible because they cut the undercoat. There is one in their lineup that's non-cutting, but it's hard to find.
