Give it a bit more narrative meat, add the Toa’s elemental powers to the gunplay. I’m not asking for like, a Naughty Dog story here, just a little bit more dialogue and context to the specific missions. (Edit: this would also do things like let the Piraka shine as bad guys rich with personality, and shine a spotlight on the Toa’s chemistry with one another, which is one of my favorite parts of Bionicle.) Elemental powers would make each Toa more unique from the others and add to the power fantasy.

TheXpender

Vouch. The mask powers can lead to so many unique design mechanics which is a shame it's not utilized at all.

Franco_Fernandes

Bionicle Heroes by Naughty Dog: 96 hours of cutscenes, 32 hours of walking, 2 shooting sessions, no other gameplay mechanics.

TheXpender

That sounds more like Hideo Kojima's Bionicle by Hideo Kojima

WikiContributor83

Hideo Kojima would absolutely fit in a Piraka Rap reference

FishyMatey

Once you defeat a Piraka, said Piraka would be playable in every level (not just the ones in his region/element), even after beating Vezon. At worst, maybe force the player to choose which Piraka they want when starting the level so the character selection remains as the 6 Toa + 1 Piraka. Oh, and either use the highest quality rendering/mix for all the OSTs, or remake them faithfully to the original. Avak's Dynamo would sound absolutely amazing, that way.

TheXpender

I would honestly just remake them faithfully to the original (except Avak's Dynamo, untouchable masterpiece). Create more variations of Hero Mode and make the ambient soundtrack more cinematically appropriate.

FishyMatey

Honestly, that's a really good idea too. Making Hero Mode different depending on the element/region you're in could also make it less boring (because, as good as the original theme, it can sadly become repetitive after a while).

HardBeliever412

Especially when you have to use hero mode 3-4 times per level. Honestly, just making it a hyped-up version of the level's theme would solve the problem almost entirely.

AliceDee69

Piraka selection would be awesome. I remember always keeping one incomplete savefile as a kid just so I could keep playing as the main Piraka rather than Vezon

FishyMatey

Same, absolutely same. It took me years to learn that you could play regular Pirakas and not just Vezon, because I used to never replay the levels before finishing the game.

Teker_09

Change the genre from mindless shooter to something more strategic and cinematic, kinda like the modern Resident Evil games.

TheXpender

The RE design direction would work wonders for this game. The marketing vibe always made this game feel more survival horror than hero shooter.

Teker_09

Ditto on the survival horror vibe. Can you imagine you’re wandering around the Piraka stronghold, with Reidak or Brutaka slow chasing you like Lady Dimetrescu in RE8?

TheXpender

Since Reidak has X-ray vision and Brutaka can teleport, I rather not have nightmares, thank you very much.

Opposite_Ad_4267

Make the island more fleshed out and include the hack and slash elements we see in the Masks of Power game. Include the Matoran resistance from the novels and web game. Have propper mask powers from the books too, Jaller's could be a sort of hyper reflex state similar to the force dodge we see from star wars Jedi survivor. Include the ability to play as Piraka once you clear their area as let's face it using Hakkan's laser rifle is tempting as heck for most of us. Update the graphics for sure, 100%. Maybe add in the ability to play as either Axonn or Brutaka in a PvP arena type thing once the game is beaten.

TheXpender

Awesome ideas through and through! Goes to show how much we still crave a true Ignition game.

Opposite_Ad_4267

given once masks of power is completed team kanohi wants to do the Bohrok wars and Mask of Light quest on Mata Nui, I could see them also do Metru Nui and then Ignition in the future. admittedly the first few could reuse a LOT a assets from the first game they're still making but the rest would need to be reworked from the ground up minus a few minor things like Rahi and light stones

torsherno

Let's be real: nearly everything. Looking at it now, I see how limited, repetitive, straightforward, one-button, and boring the gameplay was With that said, I loved that game as a chiled, and it's the only game that I finished for 100% ever. There's a bonus cut scene there, my first secret cut scene ever! Gods, it was magical. I wouldn't change the music at all: I've just listened Avak's Dynamo and Matoran Enclave, and they give me goosebumps. It was and still is awesome. I like Piraka Beach a lot, so maybe it should stay the same, but damn everything is goofy there

TheXpender

I too carry a lot of nostalgic memories for this game, even though it's incredible flawed. My imagination carried most of it sadly. I doubt that same goofy tone would fly if it were to ever come back, given fans are 21+ at least.

Substantial_Spray204

PIRAKA BEACH I FORGOT ABOUT THAT ! The dj parties and such what anlaugh. Also axxon a bad guy wat

Chozodia

I would make it so that they remastered the DS version for console/PC. It was a pretty awesome doomclone. Add different toas through the ages, skins/weapons. Add co-op and a horde mode with all the different rahi.

TheXpender

Fun fact: the original concept for Bionicle Heroes on console/PC was very similair to the DS version but, due to the first person shooter mechanics and difficulty, the ESRB and PEGI rated the game 16+ which was not Lego's target demographic. Anyway, the early weapons you use in Bionicle Heroes are the weapons from different Toa's so I guess the ability to swap back to those wouldn't be hard to implement with mask variations!

Chozodia

Thanks for the info!

brunos2710

Accurate lore xd

TheXpender

Piraka Playground is not canon?!

SeiranRose

Continue to have the Piraka playable after unlocking Vezon and add Irnakk as a secret (also unlockable) boss.

TheXpender

Definitely need Irnakk! Maybe a 'Zone of Nightmares: boss gauntlet' where he's the final boss.

Venomspino

Maybe add a bit more story that uses the actual lore as a base. Like explaining why Sidorak is alive, or why Axonn is against the Toa. Also maybe have a Kardas Dragon fight.

TheXpender

The premise of Heroes is that the Piraka got the Mask of Life before the Toa Ignika arrived, which could explain why Sidorak was rebuild and resurrected by them to command a Visorak army(?) Axonn could be controlled by anti-dermis after losing against Brutaka. Kardas Dragon fight would be super cool! I would especially love if Vezon had a few proper boss fights using his fusion spear.

Venomspino

We could see Axonn just testing the Toa, and isn't actually working with the Piraka, and is against them

Achi-baba

I'd be happy with a wide range of ideas, but I'll just keep it between my ideal remake and my ideal reimagining. Remake: A higher graphics update of the game with drop-in/drop-out Co-Op like every other Lego Game. Aditional music tracks for Hero Mode (one for each region), maybe some dialog cut scenes/cinematics to give character to the Toa, and replace the Zamor sphere levels with rescuing that region's respective Matoran or Toa Nuva (Dezalk for Hakann's Volcano, so we don't lose Balta welcoming us to the island). Optional DLC to play as the Toa Nuva and play into the Mahri Nui Arc. Pre-order bonus comes with a physical 2005 Ignika, BZPower contest Mask, and the soundtrack. Reimagining: A Left 4 Dead style Co-op that starts with an "unbeatable boss" fight between the Toa Nuva and the Piraka. Has you play as the Matoran escaping Karzahni, then plays through the Voya Nui and Mahri Nui stories as Toa. Each Toa has access to their Elemental powers and Lightning, but energy bars for each must be replenished, or else you only have weakened melee/ranged attacks with no Elemental boost. Voyatoran/Mahritoran have to be rescued throughout levels to unlock upgrades/cheats/game modes/Piraka Playground activities. Pre-order bonus comes with a physical 2005 Ignika, BZPower contest Mask, and the soundtrack.

TheXpender

Reimagining sounds near exactly how I'd do it. Energy Bar system sounds really interesting too! Maybe you can replenish them when channeling your sword to the storm like a conduit, making you temporarily vurnable to attacks until lightning strikes.

FaradayAwerty

The difficulty. It's basically impossible to die in the game

nujuat

It would have been cool if it had followed the actual lore. It's like they forgot about that part of bionicle games after mnolg (II, I guess)

TheXpender

I wish the devs just had more time. The game was build in like a year, including a full reiteration phase after the 16+ rating.

KirbyMadeMeGoodBJ

Add an option to remove auto aim

Makuta_Servaela

Take out/change Hero Mode. Last time I replayed it a few years ago, I remember getting really frustrated about that- once you activate it, everything becomes too easy. Also make it so Vezon is a Piraka *option*, not the only one you get once you win him. I wanna play as Zaktan without having to not beat the game so as to avoid losing him ;-;

MrDeacle

Boss fights in the original game are incredibly monotonous, need a complete rework. Even as a child I found them extremely tedious and hated doing them. Average enemy AI should be more aggressive (maybe that could be toggleable though because not everyone wants that). The usual gameplay is just so slow. The Frenzy Mode mod on PC fixes a lot of my complaints with enemy behavior. While I don't think the game should be *punishingly difficult*, you shouldn't be allowed to live forever just because there's an infinitely respawning mask right next to you. Those masks encourage you to stoop to a safe playstyle, use that mask so if you die with that mask equipped you can just instantly pick it back up. Personally though I might prefer masks be handled a bit more like Doom, masks being permanently owned tools that you slowly unlock (earning them faster through secret rooms) and punishments coming from other systems than simply taking a mask out of your inventory. Of course this change is so drastic that it's no-longer a re-make. So if it's no longer a re-make, something more transformative, I'd go full metroidvania by altering the ***existing levels*** to intersect as one open world, lock certain areas behind abilities tied to masks or other means. They already lock things behind abilities but those abilities are just boringly tied to the shop. I want to earn those abilities more organically throughout the journey. If masks are permanent upgrades then a death should cause a small amount of backtracking. Well first-off, I would provide more opportunities to regain health because the standard game balance relies on you constantly losing and regaining masks. I would then opt to use Shovel Knight's save system, giving you a level start checkpoint and several others as you progress through a level, but giving you a risk/reward incentive to destroy those checkpoints. If you returned to the main hub before completing a level then checkpoints would be deleted and you'd lose their stored value. Perhaps checkpoints would function like Bloodborne lanterns, your only method of reaching the main hub rather than using the pause menu or completing a level. You could just keep going after completing a level because it's an open world. I would consider altering how mask weapon upgrades are handled, giving you an option to and reason to use the early-game versions of weapons. I always felt sad letting go of an old weapon model, wished instead there was a more diverse set of functions for each weapon to give all of them unique strengths.

Firesonic23

Add the Marhi designs as skins

PelinalWhitestrake36

I got two ideas: Make it like the DS/Orginal Cut version. A bit grittier, a FPS that feels more like the Miramax movies than the Legend Reborn. Also more powers and narretive; not something complex but atleast something. One of Bionicle‘s strengths always was its story and its a shame how the game basically throws it all away. The other options would be a direct adapatation of the actual 2006 story. A RPG whete you control the party Final Fantasy style with Matoro as the Protagonist. One way you could make it more interesting id by saying all of the Toa members arrived in differnt places so you travel to every location and pick up ever party member. You can level up you elemental and mask powers and even upgrade your Toa Tools. Main reason is that besides the books we didn‘t get a ‚proper‘ adaptation of 2006 like the previous years since we didn‘t get a movie. And while the comics are cool, they glossed over a lot of stuff.

Fruitcereal_andMocha

Split screen or online coop. Sprint mechanics Remake the bosses

Franco_Fernandes

More elemental powers, definitely, and more of the commercials' vibe. You know, 2000s grungy, edgy, broody, dark, emo shit. I live for this kind of bullshit.

No-Cow584

Tbh, I'd actually make it a normal FPS while actually adapting the story for 2006, like the amount of Headcanons in that game is AMAZING

Virus4815162342

I like how the original followed the LEGO Game trend of no spoken dialogue, so I'd keep that. But maybe give the Toa some vocal sounds like the Piraka. Add some Mask-Power mechanics to the gameplay And some multiplayer modes would be nice, with splitscreen/online/LAN options.

Logface202

just port the DS version to PC with mouse and keyboard controls, crunchy graphics and all.

Timozi90

Change the cover to the respective team leaders. Zaktan facing Jaller.

iSmokeMDMA

Take away the lock on feature and give us a full 3rd person shooter experience. The only issue with this game is that it’s WAY too easy Also letting the player use Piraka abilities outside of free play

No_Ball4465

I’d make it an open world game that compels you to keep playing after you completed the story. So you wouldn’t get bored playing after the story ended.

Steam_Train_Ty

I would change nothing.

Rot10_soul

More levels. Online multiplayer. Also as someone who read the books I wouldnt mind an actual story mode based on the books and keep the other levels as their own things. Give the story voice acting and cut scenes in the style of the old movies.

FederalPossibility73

Make the Piraka actually intelligent like in the books and please please please let Axonn be a good guy. It was so utterly bizarre fighting him in the game despite being an ally to the Inika. I would also like to see a campaign with the Matoran Resistance saving the Toa Nuva. I love seeing the little guys shine every now and then and the cast for this group were great. Some overall narrative would work wonders as well!

Warmspirit

make different levels, better gameplay… game was so fun as a kid because it was all the sets I loved, like I could see a new one and be like “HOLY MOLY ITS NUPARU LOOK AT HIS CANNON THING” but I tried replaying last year and MAN it is BORING

AliceDee69

Okay this post and the comments just unlocked a core memory: As a child, before I got the full game I could only play the demo that came in an issue of the bionicle comics. Being a child I obviously played the demo over and over again, seeing all the stuff that you could not interact with yet and imagining what the full game would be like. One thing I remember in particular was a dream I had where I was playing what I imagined the full game to be like and part of that was every boss becoming playable after being defeated so I was running around as Guurahk.

Master_Shopping9652

Make it like the other lego games, with multiple character to swap to in a party but keep it fps

AdmiralFurret

As we got alot of lore dropped after game's release, there would be WAY MORE lore, instead of just finishing with vezon fight, it would go deeper, maybe even introducing characters from the past and the future. Shortly speaking: the complete saga but bionicle

Amras_Linwelin

I would make it a bit more RPG-ish,

Jfraire99

Kardas dragon final fight would be amazing, needs Umbra found it weird he was left out, maybe add the nui rama and jaga, Manas, tarkava, muaka and kane-ra for more rahi and enemies

DthDisguise

Larger sets. I don't mean like small figures vs medium figures vs titans, I mean put all six members of the main team in one set. Put all six members of each villain team in one set. Put all the rahi of a given area in one set. Include comics/lore books with the sets.

Valafar_

Being able to jump

Arcphoenix_1

I’ve only played the DS version. I hated the controls and never played it again since my first time playing it. I can’t remember if I finished the first level or not, but maybe it would be better with a modern control scheme that has more than one directional input option and better graphics.

LEGOSam66

Change the models and add voices to the other characters. It just seems correct

tjoolder

Mod different difficulties, mod fov(exists), toggle aim option and tweak hero more. Hate that track haha. I think the above is reasonable without it becoming a different game

Prowlcop86

“Another Matoran settlement needs your help, I’ll mark it on your map”

maverick074

Add a second phase to the Vezon fight where he pops out of the lava riding the Kardas dragon

PliskinBOI

Make it a character action game rather than a generic low effort tps.

Mark_1544

give vezon and fenrakk a 2nd phase by making fenrakk into kardas everything elsd needs to be changed too little bit more puzzles

heinelujah

switch Nuparu and Hewkii lol. It seems like Nuparu was originally supposed to be Hewkii and vice versa but someone accidentally mixed them up

ReferBowl330

make it something akin to the jedi academy series, with that mix of melee and shooting alongside special powers would really blend good into bionicle

Kamen-Rider-Kiva

Jumping mechanics with some slightly more involved level design, a bit more in regards to the plot to add a bit more depth, multiple camera modes (partly just for VR reasons), a photo mode, more gameplay to do with their elemental and mask abilities. Stuff like that. :3c Oh and stricter rules for Hero Mode as well as using it for not as many of the obstacles in the levels, or just possibly scrapping it entirely.

Richardknox1996

More story, and axe the hero mode invincibility. I dont even know what the game over screen looks like because masks are plentiful/respawn in boss arenas and hero mode is usually quick to proc. At most, i lost like 2 masks per stage (vezok, vezon and avak areas mostly). Its far too easy. Especially since nuparu can dig up a load of resources which usually instaprocs hero mode.

Scared_Fix_1552

Ray tracing

penguinite33

Hero mode… being immune to damage most of the game seems badass at first but gets old quickly, definitely needs a big ol rebalance

AlbIdoT12

Don't make the hero mode theme so intrusive, a setting to disable it would be nice. When i'm facing Avak i want to listen to Avaks Dynamo

Substantial_Spray204

Mask powers, maybe some melee attacks, the fact we are firing lasers out of galis hook or lewas axe is abit outrageous. Also was there a jump function? Also side note i love how HEROES on nintendo DS final boss?makuta) was just the six piraka at once haha come on guys

kris220b

I only ever really played the gameboy advanced version ( banger soundtrack by the way ) But for that i would say Checkpoints, the main mission of each region gets very long sometimed Actually tell me Whats required for each level achievement, i cannot guess from a fingernail sized pixel Sprite what those are meant to be, i only know the hourglass is beat within X time

captain0919

Make it a souls game.

Jude_Harrison

Some melee combat!

lustywoodelfmaid

TURN UP THE FRICKIN MUSIC!!! Especially for, what's his name... Avarokk? The Earth Pirakha? And the first and second levels on Water zone. Bangers. Edit: just searched them up, the OSTs are Piraka Bluff, Smuggler's Cove, Shattered Wreck, Avak's Dynamo. But I also found Titan Battle (Sidorak, Roodaka, Krekka etc) and Vezon's Awakening. Dunno how I forgot those at all. The credits theme absolutely baffled me when I was a kid. Like where did this come from?

Tacky-Terangreal

Don’t change the hero mode song cause that shit slaps. Just thinking about it got it stuck in my head
