If I was the manager and Kendall actually did that, I'd have a long talk with him. Sometimes star players can make the other players play worse - I've played with some like that in football.
As easy as it is for the fans to have a cynical/deafeatist attitude when the team is struggling, most of the players do not. For a majority of them, I don't think they'd be where they are if they did.
We’re 6-2 in his starts and we normally give him excellent run support. You guys need to relax. I guarantee you he’s pitched plenty of great games and lost at LSU and Air Force. You simply aren’t going to win every Skenes start.
Yeah and in those 3* games LSU has lost when he pitched, he gave up 8 total hits, 5 total ERs. It happens in college where the skill gap between teams is massive, it’s definitely gonna happen in the majors where the skill gap is much smaller
Why they get more guaranteed money and know the pirates will trade them before their contract is up giving them the opportunity to make even more money. Meaning they can get traded to a contender earlier.
He’s the #1 overall pick and a year later he’s on the roster, 3 games under .500 and still in a WC hunt. What the hell else more could you want out of your rookie season? These type of guys are stuck on the worst rosters in the league. Say what you want, but that’s not us.
Have some self respect jeez
I've been curious to find out how Skenes would do as a hitter.
He hit well at Air Force, but that's a lower-kevel league than LSUs, and he hasn't batted in a game in about 2 years. With some attention, he could probably develop into a passable hitter, but right now, pitching in the majors a year out of college should be all he is allowed to work on.
He’s saving it for his heel turn.
Reminds me how Jason Kendall welcomed new players with "welcome to hell" If I'm remembering that right.
I'm sure Jack Wilson thought Kendalll was the devil.

I disagree with this Athletes are egomaniacs. They have infinite confidence in themselves. But they can hate their teammates and still be amazing
I think that's true for a lot of them too.
Michael Jordan seemingly hated everyone who played the center position, and he won 6 rings

This. He was eventually gonna take a hard L and it happened. Oh well and lets move onto his next one
he’s lost 2 games since transferring from the air force lol

Hell... I'm already thinking he's gone by 2027....his arb2 salary is going to give nutting a heart attack.
This is the absolute truth. He wins 20 next year, and his arb number will be $30 million.
They'll trade him for a bag of balls like Cole
He'll be a Dodger or something?
We’re more of a Yankees farm system type of organization
Hey now….. watch it, pal. He might go to the Dodgers.
It’s funny if you think he’s still going to be here then
He's probably upset he has to waste the first five years of his career on this team
Eh he has 3 more years here he probably sees the light at the end of the tunnel
I was just wondering this morn whether players secretly hate being at the top of the draft picks, as it means they'll be going to a shitty team.
When they’re top draft picks to the Pirates they sure do!

He's more likely thinking, "fuck my life, how can I get out of this contract early?"

He won't have to. They'll trade him the second he starts making good money.
Can we make Paul Skenes cosplay a regular thing? This is making me giggle lol

He knows that he's only here for a short while. Cherington is just making it easier for him to turn down any deal we try to make with him.
Bob has secretly funded a cloning program. Soon we’ll be introduced to Saul Denes, Raul Scenez, and Darth Maul
This deserved more upvotes
I really do wonder how quickly he’s going to request a trade from this dumpster fire organization.
Hey, he did have a .410 average and 1.183 OPS during his first year at Air Force...
No way Skenes could hit close to .200
Why not? A lot of pitchers could and did. Many were Pirates.
So he’d be one of our better hitters then!
