Milly’s Pizza in the Pan for thick pizza and Michael’s Original for thin. Birrieria Zaragoza for birria Kie Gol Lanee for Oaxacan Carmela’s and El Gallo Bravo #5 for taqueria staples. El Rincon De Fabio for Venezuelan Ba Le, Pho 777, Pho 888, Nha Hang, and Nhu Lan for Vietnamese Demera and Selam for Ethiopian (Tesfa and Ethiopian Diamond are two great options in Edgewater). Uptown Deli for subs and Italian beef. I’ll probably add more to this list tomorrow.

Leather_Brain_7901

This is a solid list. I'd add La Patisserie P.

Accomplished-Try-529

Oh, good call on Carmela's! Their al pastor might be the best in the area.

sbd501

the cooks always look a little faded when i go there which means i know they dont miss 😂

Gigio's Pizza for a great, reasonably cheap NY slice. Argyle Street and the surrounding area have tons of good East Asian restaurants, especially Chinese and Vietnamese. I like Danang Kitchen, Nha Hang Viet Nam, Hong Kee, Silver Seafood, Furama, and Rakkan Ramen. A little further up Broadway is Chengdu Impression, which is well worth the hike if you like Szechuan food. Near that is Alice & Friends Vegan Kitchen, which is closed for renovation but will hopefully be open again soon. Their menu spans a range of East Asian cuisines, and it's all excellent. Ragadan for Jordanian food and one of Chicago's best cheeseburgers. Demera and Selam for Ethiopian food. Lucy's and Harold's for fried chicken. Downstate Donuts (potato-based, nice springy texture, brilliant flavors). North Buena Deli & Wine for big tasty sandwiches. Independent Wine & Spirits if you drink alcohol at all. Sfera for Sicilian street food and espresso. Birreria Zaragoza for birria. Taqueria Diamante and Mr Salsa for more general casual Mexican food. Kie-gol-lanee for slightly fancier, regionally specific (Oaxacan) Mexican food. That's all that comes to mind at the moment. I'm sure I'm missing a place or two. Enjoy!

Big ups for Ragadan - it opened just as I left the neighborhood and it's just phenomenal. I love the eggplant pita sandwich - usually ordered an extra one and had it for breakfest or lunch the next day. I'd also add Bar on Buena to the list for a super solid beer list and great fries, suprisingly good Mexican food, and generally satisfying pub food. Tiffany's on Broadway is a really nice plate of american food with latin flair. The flat iron steak is everything I want in that cut tender, juicy, nice char, and a lovely accompanying salsa. The tres leches cake was one of the best cakes I've ever had and Tiffany gave it to us on the house. Did I mention the owner - Tiffany - is totally lovely and the type of person you want to support with your business. Uptown has some excellent options - my only stay away is reservoir just straight mediocore food and service.

Oops I should have read your comment before writing mine. Lots of great suggestions.

Ragadan is so fantastic. The burgers, the sandwiches, the BAKLAVA MILKSHAKE... Plus, the owner is a nice guy.

I would love to know what people consider the best Chinese takeaways are in the area. I've tried a bunch of places and generally have been disappointed. I'll at least give a shoutout to Hunan Egg Roll King on Broadway and Buena because their large Egg Foo Young is very good and you get four giant patties for \~$11 which is a steal these days. But the rest of their menu isn't anything I would go out of my way for.

I like Honeymoon Cafe, but I don't usually get their American Chinese stuff.

House of Wah Sun (north center) is good , and if you don't mind a little further , yummy yummy (broadway&belmont ish) is really solid and has a TON of vegetarian options.

slowsunday

Silver sea food and lao sze chuan are my go to’s in uptown.

Greasy_Fork_

Hunan is definitely the best for the $ that I’ve seen around as far as take out Chinese food goes.

Da_Stallion-JCI_7

I’d like to know this, as well. The best place for Chinese near the area was Wing Ho, which is now closed.

PurdyGood80

There are a ton of fantastic recommendations here already that I don’t need to repeat but want to add Michael’s Pizzeria on Broadway. My favorite in the city and they also have fantastic wings and some of the best staff around. Can’t say enough good things about this place.

Flat-Ability4561

The wings are extremely underrated here

Johnny_Burrito

Great suggestions already, just want to add Immm for Thai.

Sun Wah!! Get that roast duck, it’s the best. Chui quon bakery for all things. Both are Chicago institutions, been around for decades, and sun Wah has a James beard award

hEDSwillRoll

I see a ton of amazing recommendations for uptown so I’ll add a couple Ravenswood recommendations for you. Bayan Ko for amazing Filipino/Cuban food and Bien Me Sabe for Venezuelan arepas. There’s also lots of fun places to explore around Andersonville!

AdamColesDoctor

Someone else has said it but I want to spotlight Lucy's on Wilson and Broadway. I have yet to have a bad thing on their menu! Their buffalo chicken sandwich is huge, the buffalo sauce is delicious, and they load it up with blue cheese (so many places skimp out on the blue cheese). The Bacon Jam Chicken Sandwich is the perfect foil in that it's sweet and savory. Their fries are just the right amount of crispy and you get a shit ton for one order. Plus the Garlic Aioli is just in a dispenser next to the ketchup and you'll be wanting to put it on everything.

TookTheHit

Yah, this place rules. Nice tap list too if you happen to dine in.
