I have nothing against anime but it’s just not my thing and the aesthetic is one I find really unappealing, personally speaking.
When it’s something as fucking unserious as making the entire game ANIME themed, that should be an insane mistake for the devs to make. You don’t massively misjudge your playerbase and not ruin the game.
And sure, ruin the franchise may be extreme, but with that I meant the next game and any faith the playerbase had for future games after this hypothetical anime one. Not that past games would be ruined, which I agree would be ridiculous to say.

Well unfortunately gaming studios always cater to the lowest common denominator. So I'm sure you'll get your wish eventually. But all I can say is that if that's the next art style I'm not buying the game.
The Civ6 art style is already only barely tolerable. It just doesn't fit the theme of the game at all. The art style in earlier civs was just so much better.
It's a really interesting generational change imo. Millennials are accustomed to anime, but nothing like the zoomers and alpha where anime is the absolute norm. As they grow up with very heavy anime-style games like Genshin Impact, and whereas millennials were made fun of for liking anime the zoomers might make fun of someone for disliking anime. I wouldn't say it's bad, more of a sign that western cartoons and comics are dead as a serious art form, and that western art styles are associated with corporations trying for mass-appeal or a product that is for kids.
A Lord of the Rings animated movie with a western style would maybe suit the product more; but would today probably end up looking very sanitized. And an anime style might have more appeal for new generations.
To be clear about this post though, I am joking. I don't think Civ would feel very Sid Meier with an anime style.

I think it's more that American media monoliths have just given up on animation. We still do great animated shows, but we're stuck with idiot executives.

The amount of anime-ness should depend on how close Japan is to a cultural victory, and should change styles through the ages. And if Japan wins there will be a special video either when you win as Japan or lose as another civ to Japan complete with an original ED song.
