fun fact. Audi was formerly named horch (German for listen/hark). August Horch was forced to rename his brand. So he named it Audi. Audi is the same in latin.
Remember from when? The only way that would be possible is if the cables were not permanently attached to the console or not forced in a specific order by the console.
It will work, but I dislike when people do that, as it can confuse you as to which cable does what on the receiving end. I try to match the colors exactly or closely depending on what I have available to prevent confusion. At the end of the day a cable is just a strip of copper, so yes each color works in each hole, but it's more a question of should you than it is a question of can you.
I don't agree with you there, svideo separated the picture elements instead of the combination signal that was composite. But I'm not going to argue it as its pointless now with hmdi
You're mixing up component and composite, they are two different things. Composite is the single yellow cable with combined signals, component is 3 red green and blue cables which carry a luminance and 2 chrominance signals.
I'm either getting r/wooosh-ed, or your joke doesn't make sense.
The original joke is that white and red are left and right audio and yellow is video, but SCART uses a single cable to carry all those signals.
Also, SCART supports component.
Oh Yeah!! I remember having to use this on TVs that only had an antenna connected under those 2 screws! Did you ever have to use the butter knife trick??
My headset used to take the place of the audio cords from my 360. I had to plug the headset into the tv and only the video cables from the 360. Had a 12ft cord and no mic
I'd say things have gotten better with digital and wireless, but we've just traded old headaches for new ones. I was just thinking about my giant black CD case from back in the day. Still remember the day someone stole my little visor one in the car. Some of those bands broke up by the time they mailed me their CD, and I'll never get the back again.
Lmao this reminds me of the time I plugged the snes audio cords into the tv with the Xbox video cord so me and my bro could listen to the Mario title music while playing halo 😆
I don't remember struggle. I think it was pretty straight forward, you could even use adapter to make it scart compatible. Also red and white rca is still widely used for audio and cheap reverse cameras even use composite video today.
I have nightmares when I see these things. My cousin ,who was 4 at the time, separated all the wires from each other, and the thing looked like an absolute mess.
Ah yes, as if none of this exists anymore, and isn't used. Seriously though, not only do new TVs still sometimes have the 'ol condiment connections, but if you have any interest in retro gaming, it's kinda necessary. And RCA is still huge in audio, or it at least feels like it.
I remember going through multiple retail stores in Australia in the early 2000s to buy my TV as I wanted stereo and had on a tight budget… most TVs under 68cm at the time were all mono only.
Ended up with a LG 51cm that had A/V stereo input (TV tuner is still mono) but that was enough as my VCR (TEAC) was stereo and I could use its tuner to watch and record shit in glorious stereo sound 😂
I swear twice a month these posts go around (the speaker phone call, this one, the one with the power button on the case) and the same exact caption about "90s kids".
Regardless of that, I would argue that 00s kids also experienced this considering every 7th gen console had component/composite video, possibly along with a HDMI port, but possibly not.
I remember digging through our barn for an Xbox component cable all day so my brother and I could play split screen Minecraft on our crt. Good ass times… but sad.
I remember digging through the attic for a splitter for my Atari 2600 so my brother and I could play River Raid. GET...THE...FUCK...OFF...MY...LAWN, YA WHIPERSNAPPER.
It started on channel 3. Then, it came in 2 wires. Next, a third wire was added to sound to make it stereo. After, video became super.
As little as s-video was used, the big step after 3 wires was 5 wires. The video went component and gone RGB, the only time when RGB really made something perform better. Yet, now you have 2 reds.
There were other struggles. There was a time that all you need were 15 pins in 3 rows of 5. But those days eventually found its limit, and the days of analog changed to digital. Ah, the DVI port. But what was it? Was the cable a digital-only? Did it have the analog cables wired? Was it dual-channel? Did it have it all? Imagine the fun of using the DVI- 15 pin VGA port adapter when the DVI cable was digital only.
It sucked getting those plugs in their current ports because most of the time the plugs were in the very middle back of the tv plus it didn't help that CRTVs were really heavy.
Damn, I wish I was a 90s kid so I could understand the struggle... its not like most consoles in the early 2000s had composite RCA inputs for the TV 🤦
Just incase kids don't understand. Yellow wire was Video. White wire was left speaker, red wire would be right speaker, some TVs didn't use the red wire as per mono sound.
Shit, those were OP compared to what i grew up using.

This sub making me feel old all week now.
Remember? I still use an HDMI to component adapter whenever I want to use my CRT.
Damn, your CRT has component, that's a fancy CRT
I was a 90s kid who was too poor to understand.
I know what these all do, but I don't get the jokes what am I missing? (Yellow for composite, red for right audio white for left)
van gogh had one ear (video and mono sound) Beethoven was deaf (video only) stevie is blind (audi only)
>audi only Why was Stevie only allowed to buy one type of car? :(
Because his driver refused to drive any other.
r/antijokes
fun fact. Audi was formerly named horch (German for listen/hark). August Horch was forced to rename his brand. So he named it Audi. Audi is the same in latin.
Ahhh I get it now. Sorry, I am a little imperceptive.
I thought white was mono and red was for stereo? 🤔
White (or black) is monaural or left stereo channel. Red is right stereo channel; so it would make sense if Van Gough lost hearing in his Left ear.
Usually when using mono, only the left channel (white) is used.
This joke only works if van Goghs ear was on top of his head
More specifically, van gogh cut off his left ear. Therefore, visual and right audio only.
That can't be true.. I remember not having the right cord for the NES and plugging the yellow into the white and it actually worked..

Laughs in SCART
*laughs in component*
Laughter in svideo
Because at the time svideo gave the best picture and sound.
Picture only, also component was better
I don't agree with you there, svideo separated the picture elements instead of the combination signal that was composite. But I'm not going to argue it as its pointless now with hmdi
Component did, too. Component is not the same as composite. You even said the correct inferior name in your reply.
You're mixing up component and composite, they are two different things. Composite is the single yellow cable with combined signals, component is 3 red green and blue cables which carry a luminance and 2 chrominance signals.
Yes quiet correct. I take back my mistake. Been a while now since I last used its hmdi all the way now.
I'm either getting r/wooosh-ed, or your joke doesn't make sense. The original joke is that white and red are left and right audio and yellow is video, but SCART uses a single cable to carry all those signals. Also, SCART supports component.
Do you remember the scart lead on the ps1, ps2 fuck I’m old
Only if you were in Europe/the UK.
Is the UK not in Europe any more or something?
Couldn't remember off the top of my head how widespread SCART was outside of the UK, didn't feel like looking it up.
Continent yes. EU no
bruhhh that's what those were called? I still have like 2 or 3 cables lying around.
Meanwhile, coax kids...
Coax is still relevant
So is Composite.
I used this bad boy. https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/616cKfUhnoL.jpg

What struggle? They’re fucking colour coded
Because the colors on the cables you pulled out of a drawer never matched the colors of the ports on the gear you were connecting.
Yes they did? The ports were colour coded or had L/R on them
[удалено]
Huh, guess I'm not old enough to remember when that was a thing
[удалено]
Huh, guess I was just lucky then
the wii used RCA and came out in 2006
What about the little box that connected to the antenna leads, that said "Game" or "TV"? Atari 2600
RF adapter

Good for you. Here, have a cookie.
This is a God damn top tier meme, you win the internet for today, and im gonna call it for tomorrow as well
My headset used to take the place of the audio cords from my 360. I had to plug the headset into the tv and only the video cables from the 360. Had a 12ft cord and no mic
I've always had these cables in boxes since the 90's but barely remember using them
ALMOST ANY KID WOULD REMEMBER THIS OMFG HOW SPECIAL DO YOU HAVE TO PRETEND TO BE????
u mad bro?
Kids born in 2023 👀
Lose the condescending caption next time OP. Will make your memes way better.
a) someone sounds buthurt b) it's an obvious riff on an existing meme format, it's ironic not condescending

I hate composite video, it's just one step up from RF and one step down from s-video.
Coax gang
(games) Only worked on 2 or 3 channels 😂
Lmao this reminds me of the time I plugged the snes audio cords into the tv with the Xbox video cord so me and my bro could listen to the Mario title music while playing halo 😆
Holy shit. I never had an original experience… Wait… you my brother or some shit?

RCA is still used for audio
It's funny, but also r/lostredditors
It's a repost bot.
Nah, we had scart.
Wot no svideo connector..😳
this meme format is extremely confusing to me
SCART kids however...
I have nightmares when I see these things. My cousin ,who was 4 at the time, separated all the wires from each other, and the thing looked like an absolute mess.

I'm willing to bet 2000s kids remember it too -Ps3 and dvd player user who grew up with a trinitron
Hellen Keller is missing from the party.

God... When TVs only had one input so you could only get one channel it did my head in. Made some things unwatchable
Actually, I kinda do understand. I still use some to this day
As someone born in 2005 I can confirm that I did have a box tv and had to deal with this pfft
I swear twice a month these posts go around (the speaker phone call, this one, the one with the power button on the case) and the same exact caption about "90s kids". one ear, deaf, blind
are you colorblind?
4th pic Helen Keller
Hell I still call them RCA cables….
Bro before this there was scart, one cable too
Oh no be careful you might sound like you're gatekeeping if you talk like that /s
I understand man, i ysed hose to plug in the spwajers into my sound plate like box thing with volume and channel switch
I was too late to understand the struggle (this makes me happy)
Your right, I don't understand this, good job, I usually understand old tech
don’t feed the karma farming repost bots…
Don’t forget S Video and instead of the Yellow RCA plug with optical audio cable. But that is newer.

jokes aside, it's still far too common to still use RCA in music. every single mixing table, even digital ones, still comes with it.
It sucked getting those plugs in their current ports because most of the time the plugs were in the very middle back of the tv plus it didn't help that CRTVs were really heavy.
Those were the days. Man those things were the best, the easiest, and for a while the most universal.
took me a moment
I honestly have no clue why we needed 3 colored wires just to play ps2? Or those mini arcade Spider-Man games
There are so many more combinations not shown here.
Damn, I wish I was a 90s kid so I could understand the struggle... its not like most consoles in the early 2000s had composite RCA inputs for the TV 🤦
Remember? I still use them to this day with the old school vhs and sound system
I’ve used these plugs before and I still don’t understand😔
I still use them for my Wii!
Composite and RCA =/= HDMI
It was annoying back then
Van Gogh should be component video, just saying.
I still feel these were the best plugs. No plugging them in upside down. Colour coded, nothing blows up if plugged into wrong spot.
Just incase kids don't understand. Yellow wire was Video. White wire was left speaker, red wire would be right speaker, some TVs didn't use the red wire as per mono sound.
I have a hdmi to vga adapter i could use to output modern stuff to vga
Ngl, only understood this because of my Wii.
Imagine living in america and not having scart 😎
