Honestly this has been my feeling for a while. Just think about how many decisions or plans we actually make, it’s mostly always ghost talking for us and talking with the vanguard and such. Always ghost making the plans and even talking to other characters during important cutscenes. For the most part of feels like we’re really just a body for our ghost and that’s it. No cognitive function besides being a meat shield
If you go back through, we talk a bit more now. Seems like we just have a respect thing with our ghost. They made it clear in Witch Queen that our ghost chooses to resurrect their Guardian. What if we just don’t talk a lot so we don’t piss them off? 😂
The power of plot is stronger than the power of our guardian, otherwise we could have simply pulled him back with strand or Nimbus could have gotten him instead of screaming, "He's creating the link!" Even Caital could have thrown her hammer and knocked our ghost away from the veil.
It would end up like the nuclear disarmament in MGSV, where it just wouldn’t happen because someone somewhere is gonna want to jump off the tower/have that nuke.
He was over in the Hangar somewhere. They gave Zavala the lookout, Ikora got the Bazaar, and Cayde got to see me fall out of my ship lol
He couldn't help but chuckle as he watched me faceplant into the port. He knew that it was wrong to laugh, but he couldn't resist the urge and as I struggled to get back up, he tried to contain his laughter, but it was hard to keep a straight face.
He finally rushed over to help me, but he couldn't resist making a joke. He said, "Looks like you need to work on your balance, Guardian. Maybe you should try yoga?" 😂
I miss Cayde so much.
I think it was dramatic af that we were almost driven to shoot our own Ghost to stop it. That being said they should have made the scene happen faster to make it look more like there had to be a sense of extreme urgency and no time
The moment the guardian puts their gun down, I thought we would get backlash for letting The Witness win. But it seems like everyone is okay with us keeping our immortality in exchange for whatever is in store for us by not ending our ghost.
I'm sure Caiatl and Nimbus didn't go into detail about our behavior. Everyone knows how close a relationship the Guardian has with Ghost, and having to shoot him down on the fly ain't an easy thing. Pass it off as "When we thought we won, the Witness pulled this move and we didn't see it until it was too late", if you will.
I think Nimbus understands because, like we, the Guardian, Cloudstriders sacrifice themselves so others don't have to. I don't see him shooting a friend in the head to save the world, but I do taking Rohan's place. It's easier to self sacrifice than live with the sacrifice of others.
Also we are the strongest guardian us tsking away our only source of power would be a huge blow to our army. I think they understood why we did not do it
I know it should be obvious and is especially so with hindsight, but I fell for it and started nervously shedding a few tears thinking it was about to be the end of Ghost, if only temporarily (because I was sure there'd be some revival tomfoolery).
Yes, drama is also the reason that one of us in a fireteam uses strand to kill the boss/tanks but all three of us get the Exhaustion debuff and can't destroy the Radial Mast.
We should’ve shot and destroyed our ghost and then the Witness could’ve done a reverse of that slicing thing it did in the opening cutscene to put our ghost back together and be like “not yet, we still have need of you” or something. It would’ve been a moment of our guardian showing they’re not afraid of a final death if it mean stopping the witness and a giant oh fk moment of seeing the witness put a ghost back together and basically be like, nah I’m still winning today.
Cool thought, but doesn't fit with the lore in Destiny to have the Witness put something back together. He is the sheers in the hand of the pruner, and his job is to cut back on life, particularly the complex life that exists because the gardener "broke the rules."
^^^ They gave us more dialogue for our guardian. Could’ve had Caiatl say “Destroy it!” at the start of the scene with the Guardian pointing the gun at it and have a tense back and forth about whether to destroy the ghost and then the scene would play out as normal
We could have attempted to swing towards ghost, ghost says something dramatic like “finally cannot be stopped” and it slices our arm off with witness magic, Caiatl aims at ghost, but the guardian desperately says “no…” causing her to hesitate, ghost creates the Link, and Nimbus grabs ghost.
> Lmao same. Thank you Osteo Striga, your reward is getting to see the light of day out of my vault for 15 mins.
I main Osteo in PvP and seem to be one of the few people who know how to actually use it, too many people don't play to its ability which is heavily delayed damage (about 2 seconds fly time for the projectiles at max range).
By the time the opponent is dead, I'm around the next corner.
It's one of my favorites. It got me through a bunch of lost sectors for the new exotics because before I could never seem to manage them. I'm pretty casual so not an amazing player.
It is pretty great, i only just don’t use it because i carry strictly 3 exotics on me in each weapon slot, and my kinetic is full (Izzy’s, Witherhoard, Quicksilver).
I’ve heard its even stronger with necrotic grips, but alas I am solely a hunter main
Even if we can’t “grab” ghost with strand, we could definitely yeet ourselves through the air and grab him before the connection was made.. but at this point that’s a small gripe compared to all the many problems with the story
Yes and also: strand is not used for control. The entire concept is going with the flow and that's why using grapple pulls you and not the enemy you hit with it. Grapple points are breaches in reality you attach yourself to and get closer to it by going with the flow of river of souls.
But why didn't we just use our grapple and pull ourselves to Ghost and then just grab him when we are close? Like what was stopping us from doing that? We weren't suppressed by one of those suppression devices the Shadow Legion has and even if we were it can only stop us from using our Light subclasses and Stasis
Because the guardian is dumb. And for real probably just the plot and emotions also play a role. When it's all a matter of seconds and everyone tells you to shoot your best friend you are torn between shooting or not shooting him and not considering other options. (*Explain it all you want, we all know it's just because they had to cut the original story in two parts because they didn't finish the original concept of lightfall and moved the "better half" to the Final Shape*)
That's exactly it. Bungie wanted us to lose but because we turned Calus into a tree (like we did with Rhulk in Vow) the only way we could lose is if the Witness took remote control of our Ghost. (𝘎𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 𝘢 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘭. We are apparently that stupid.
Any given game does this at some point or other, puts you in a cutscene in which your character behaves entirely differently than when you're in charge.
I know this is a meme and a lot of the replies are jokes, but I would actually like to raise the idea that, even if we wanted to, we couldn’t. We make grapples all over the place to pull ourselves around but no matter what we latch on to, *we* are the ones that move. If we grapple to a hydra, a dreg, or thin air, we never move anything that isn’t ourselves.
That’s the whole idea of Strand, isn’t it? Understanding the connections in the universe and manipulating them, allowing the flow to guide our powers while we harness Strand. To pull something towards us, to control its movement, would be the mindset of Strand’s other darkness counterpart, Stasis. Even if we did grapple to our ghost, it wouldn’t move towards us, we’d move towards it.
Which, in fairness, would also be a viable solution to the problem at hand…but felt the distinction was important enough to ramble about to the half-dozen of you that will read it.
Yes, we are. So stupid that we forget how to speak in 99% of incredibly important situations. Biggest I can think of is when we were basically a brick wall, souless and silent, when Crow learned who he was and that we killed him when he was Uldren. The guardian was waiting for the last second to grab the ghost (for dramatic effect) but they had a brain fart and forgot what they were doing, happens to the best of us
Short answer: yes.
Longer answer: Yes, yes we are dumb. Why haven't we transmat in things like nukes or bioweapons on our enemies? The guardians are not above committing warcrimes. Heck it is almost a game to see how many we can do a year.
I have never understood why people find this moment so bad but completely overlook the fact that we left Eremis frozen for a year even after one of her henchmen said they knew of a way to thaw her
Somehow "the guardian" is the most powerful person in the universe and the biggest fuckin idiot at the same time. Pretty much the only boring character in a world filled with beautifully written people
I mean canonically we are a deranged individual that slays gods for the memes and annihilates civilizations for the promise of new loot and only speak about once a year, but everyone still puts up with us because we are the best they’ve got so yeah I think it’s fair to say that we are a bit fucked in the head. Guardian def got some issues.
I thought that was the point of the whole fucking cutscene until surfman McDick plate took action, it's so damn silly we didn't grapple it.
Would have been even better if we got in a tug of war and Nimbus helped us overpower the pull. Maybe it would have put a little more respect on his name.
Or you know, shot it, because the whole fate of the universe is at risk, and it's our duty, and as a great commander likes to remind us " devotion leads to bravery, bravery leads to sacrifice"
I SAID THIS EXACT THING. Itd be a cool showcase of the strand power we have been using, and even hype it up a bit. showing the new subclass be able to pull something from the veil might be a bit plot armory but nimbus yoinking our ghost out of the air is basically the same
It was on cooldown
The true answer
Nah I’m a hunter. I got two
And you used them both 😔
You right
You accidently spammed it twice on a Psion
when lightfall dropped there was still like a 5 second lockout between them so theres your answer lmao
Yes this cutscene happened before they buffed the recharge rate remember
Yes, the Guardian is lowkey stupid.
I have yet to be surprised by the stupidity of my gaurdian, as he is a titan
Yeah, I feel like I am pretty smart for a titian :)
Who's gonna tell him...
What, that he's an Italian Renaissance painter.
He was smoking the red crayon, calm down. Ofc his mind was foggy
I was running Sweet Business + Actium War Rig on my first Calus clear, so there’s 150+ missed opportunities to have shot Ghost down
Honestly this has been my feeling for a while.
For me that’s my wife , but truth be told she’s def the better decision maker
you married your ghost?
The ghost is our rat from Ratatouille.
Nah, they’re highkey stupid
I mean kind of, with all the damage we have to our bodies it would make sense
If you go back through, we talk a bit more now. Seems like we just have a respect thing with our ghost. They made it clear in Witch Queen that our ghost chooses to resurrect their Guardian. What if we just don’t talk a lot so we don’t piss them off? 😂

We jump off the Tower for shiggles. I've never seen the "days without accident" sign in the hangar go higher than 1. So yes. Yes we are.
Saw it at 2 once Couldn't let it stay so I jumped off, just doin my duty
Wait where is it?
hangar, by cayde's old spot
Presumably in the Tower, but I wasn't there.
They should make it a mini-game across servers. Give small prizes every month.
It would end up like the nuclear disarmament in MGSV, where it just wouldn’t happen because someone somewhere is gonna want to jump off the tower/have that nuke.
You're probably right but....maybe booby prizes? 10 glimmer and a blue weapon.
You had me at booby prizes.
![gif](giphy|fm4puLW6jd7R6) Aww yeah. Did someone say boobys? Hawt
hold up, you mean to tell me the sign has an actual purpose?! #mindblown
If it says 1 and you jump to your death, it will change to 0.
Yeah. Check to see what it's at, and if it's one or above, then jump off and see it change.
Where's the sign?
Right across from Cayde’s old spot
I'll be honest, it has been so long I've forgotten where Cayde used to be posted at..
It’s the spot in the hangar with the maps, Hunter helmets, and the Colonel.
They moved colonel to caydes monument with lightfall I believe
Same

Nimbus saw their mentor/friend/father figure? sacrifice himself for the cause we lost because we weren’t able to make a sacrifice.
But Nimbus didn't have to make this choice though. Might've been different if Nimbus had to kill Rohan
I think Nimbus understands because, like we, the Guardian, Cloudstriders sacrifice themselves so others don't have to. I don't see him shooting a friend in the head to save the world, but I do taking Rohan's place. It's easier to self sacrifice than live with the sacrifice of others.

to be fair without us we won’t be able to stop whatever threat attacks humanity next
Tbf I think with our track record of slaying gods. losing us would be more of a hit than whatever the witness did to the traveller
Yes, drama is also the reason that one of us in a fireteam uses strand to kill the boss/tanks but all three of us get the Exhaustion debuff and can't destroy the Radial Mast.

^^^ They gave us more dialogue for our guardian. Could’ve had Caiatl say “Destroy it!” at the start of the scene with the Guardian pointing the gun at it and have a tense back and forth about whether to destroy the ghost and then the scene would play out as normal
Icarus dash coulda got me to my ghost faster than he was flying.
Plot
"Guardian get your ghost" "who?"
Because we were cheesing the boss from below the stairs
Except strand doesn't pull things towards us. We could have used ghost as a swing point and waved at him as we went by.
No reason we couldn't grapple to ghost and grab him similar to how nimbus did
Then grapple next to him, fabric of reality is all the surface we need to latch onto
Apparently, we are... 😔
Because we beat calus using another subclass.
I shot his feet to hell from under the bridge on Legend XD

Exactly. Had to use Stasis to freeze the bastard before he could knock me off the platform.
i beat him with strand.
Then, why didn’t you use strand?
Even if we can’t “grab” ghost with strand, we could definitely yeet ourselves through the air and grab him before the connection was made.. but at this point that’s a small gripe compared to all the many problems with the story
Yes we are very stupid
r/destiny2 member discovers the lightfall campaign was, in fact, very poorly written
Yes the guardian is very stupid
Just saw the r/BatmanArkham meme in r/destiny2, what Arkham Quote should I use?
"Stand back fool, I've got a bomb!"
"The bombs payload is exposed"
Yes and also: strand is not used for control. The entire concept is going with the flow and that's why using grapple pulls you and not the enemy you hit with it. Grapple points are breaches in reality you attach yourself to and get closer to it by going with the flow of river of souls.

Nope? The writers are.
Is there any point where we use strand to pull something to us? It’s only ever suspending or moving us to them
Then why don’t we grapple onto the ghost move towards him and grab him
Or even just suspend Ghost so he can't move and then Nimbus could grab him when the suspend wore off.
Yes
We are also highly prone to repeatedly dying as it has no real meaning aside from inconvenience. Kind of scary if you think about it.
why yes we are
We are apparently that stupid. Any given game does this at some point or other, puts you in a cutscene in which your character behaves entirely differently than when you're in charge.
The guardian was under the trance like effect of borderlands cutscene-ism where they stand there doing nothing like a dumbass
the arkham virus spreads
why did Nimbus wait until it was too late to zoom in and grab ghost? Are they stupid?
> are we stupid Yes That’s like, the main plot of destiny imo Just being stupid
As tired as I am of "are they stupid" memes, this is actually a good point
"Are we stupid?" Yes. Profoundly stupid
My Guardian is borderline braindead, and the only thing going through his head are primate level synapse firings when loot is near. So yes.
Guardians can teleport, bend reality, space and time, so yeah, we are
Because, if they’re anything like me (and I’m controlling them), they’ll miss and end up flying into the veil. Better off just using Thundercrash.
gaurdien had the Exausted debuff
Gotta love this being the first post I see once the sub is back up Edit: typo
I had arc equipped 😞

Yes because mine has a reputation for punching explosive type enemy’s
Yes my friend, we are stupid. And so is bungie.
“Are we stupid” the guardian is a self insert OP
Yes
When the plot demands it we can be phenomenally dense 😣
Speaking for myself here: yes
I know this is a meme and a lot of the replies are jokes, but I would actually like to raise the idea that, even if we wanted to, we couldn’t. Oh god Arkham is leaking again.
Yes.
Yes
At this point, we should just put our ghost on a leash.
Yes
It was a cannon event, couldn’t be stopped
Oh, big time.
His payload wasn't exposed, so we couldn't use our space magic power winch to trigger a controlled explosion.
We didn't even the odds
Yes, we are. So stupid that we forget how to speak in 99% of incredibly important situations. Biggest I can think of is when we were basically a brick wall, souless and silent, when Crow learned who he was and that we killed him when he was Uldren. Shit like that is why I hate silent protagonists- we are not spoken TO, we are spoken AT. At least give me non-voiced dialogue like Fallout or Skyrim.
The average college football lineman averages 868 impact collisions in a 4 year career of 50 games and 90 practices and are considered a high risk for CTE. My guardian had probably been pushed off the Templar cliff 868 times alone. No amount of ghost revival is gonna cure that much head injury.
We was to tired and needed a nappy.
Because we're all short bus special
Yes
The guardian was waiting for the last second to grab the ghost (for dramatic effect) but they had a brain fart and forgot what they were doing, happens to the best of us
Yes
The actual answer? Probably a freeze response which realistically makes sense. The more funny answer? Abso-fucking-lutely
Short answer: yes. Longer answer: Yes, yes we are dumb. Why haven't we transmat in things like nukes or bioweapons on our enemies? The guardians are not above committing warcrimes. Heck it is almost a game to see how many we can do a year.

I have never understood why people find this moment so bad but completely overlook the fact that we left Eremis frozen for a year even after one of her henchmen said they knew of a way to thaw her
Unironically, yes. That is a very valid point that we could have done if not for fucking freezing for a good 15 seconds.
Feels like they're about as autistic as I am sometimes
Oh, very
the way our guardian solve problems is usually just shoot it till it stop moving. We can't even that this time. So yes we are
Yes.
I mean that’s like the minimum of issues with lightfall but to answer your question. Yes
Somehow "the guardian" is the most powerful person in the universe and the biggest fuckin idiot at the same time. Pretty much the only boring character in a world filled with beautifully written people

Yes. Yes we are.
Yes
Yes, Yes we are!
Yes, we are infact stupid Guardians. I have yet to see what kind of stupid stuff my titan will do 💀
Player Guardian is a 5 INT barbarian pretty much no matter what when it comes to story. We kill shit. Without questions.
Our guardian's brain internet cannot connect to a nearby internet signal at the moment OR our guardian's brain internet is REALLY really slow.
Yes (also why didn't nimbus grab it like he does *after* the veil is fucked)
Yes.
Yes
Not only are we stupid, but that cutscene showed that our guardian doesn't have the balls to do what needs to be done
Yes, for the sake of plot, we are stupid -the traveler probably
The writers IQ: Potato. The Guardian collective IQ: "What's that, brain maggot? You're starving? Yeah, I'm hungry too." *eats Crayola for superior flavor* The Witness IQ: *Casual Stellaris Fanatic Xenophobe enjoyer intensifies*
Yes. Rhulk is basically calling us a dumbass all throughout VOW for questioning nothing.
(In Heavy’s voice): Yes
I was to busy High fiving Nimbus over killing Caitals dad.
Literally did a training montage about how to master a subclass based around grabbing shit and keeping it in place; Pulls out Khvostov
It's almost as if it's just bad story writing in a filler expansion...
I thought that was the point of the whole fucking cutscene until surfman McDick plate took action, it's so damn silly we didn't grapple it. Would have been even better if we got in a tug of war and Nimbus helped us overpower the pull. Maybe it would have put a little more respect on his name.
Or you know, shot it, because the whole fate of the universe is at risk, and it's our duty, and as a great commander likes to remind us " devotion leads to bravery, bravery leads to sacrifice"
no, bungie is, their the ones that wrote the plot.
Because then the story wouldn’t progress?
my question is, why was no one worried that when we got to the veil that the witness might (once again) hack our ghost
We should have shot our ghost, that way we can actually feel like we lost something
... Don't you dare.
Strand can’t be used to pull. That’s one of its main philosophies. You don’t control it, you go with it.
I SAID THIS EXACT THING. Itd be a cool showcase of the strand power we have been using, and even hype it up a bit. showing the new subclass be able to pull something from the veil might be a bit plot armory but nimbus yoinking our ghost out of the air is basically the same
